Seems i'm digging at you mate , I'm not honest.

Two teams that will finish above us
M City and Chelsea.

I have said this before , our first 14 - 15 players are some of the best in the league but we never ever get them together, we haven't got a squad to compete, its simple.

If we weren't in the CL , FA Cup or Noddy cup then we might just might have a chance but its a squad game and the bigger and better your squad the more likely you are of winning the league

Throw Manchester United in there as a possible too.

Ill add to that banbury, it would be wrong to say we are better than west ham or Liverpool because we failed to beat either at home , we never beat man u these days and i can't honestly say we are that good. Does not mean i think we will finish behind any of them just that we can't go around saying we are better than many teams yet really. But i will say we are miles away from citeh and chelski. They have better balanced teams than ours by a mile.

Its the goal scoring or lack of one especially in big or tight games that will put us furthest down the pecking order, us and utd fighting to avoid the 4th place trophy while Chelsea and City battle for the biggy.
I'm certain that's both the worst case scenario and the most likely one too.

Progression is based on how close you get to winning the league , we were 12 points behind Chelsea last season, so you are saying if we 2nd and 16 points behind the champions we have progressed.........really?
You carry on thinking that matey.

Cangun
So Rosicky will steer us though the last 3 months of the season then?? He is 35 in a few weeks . And who will Wenger play him in front of?? no one , his days are numbered .

Believable1 Unbelievable1

20 Sep 2015 21:39:54
I think judging progress is always difficult because the dynamics of football changes every year.

For example.
We finished 3rd last year.
If we finish 3rd again, some would say that's not progressing, others would say we have progressed because compared to every single team in the Prem, we have spent much less money.

I think to be judged as successful progress, we poretty much have to win the league, but as G62 said the other week, that will pretty much never happen in the Wenger era.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 22:02:10
My long range forecast is LVG will call it a day at utd next May leaving utd in much better shape than Fergie left it, Gardiola will come in returning the premier league to a 3 horse race.
Us we'll spend 80 million and complian about what others have spent and carry on like always as top four bridesmaids but never the bride under Arsene or for a few years after as his successor will need time to close the huge gap left by 12 to 13 years of under investment.
Utd will push city to be better and city will push Chelsea and so on in the next few years.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - bloody hell G62,,your turning into steve mate!...someone take his shoelaces off him.. :)

20 Sep 2015 22:13:33
Ed it drives you there one by one.tIt's like chinese torture, you eventually give in. But saying that , that's what will happenmI'm afraid. We need a freshen up.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i know its frustrating steve, but we work all week and look forward to the game at the weekend so we have to get some enjoyment out of it!, i agree that you missed a trick in the last window by not signing a couple of big names though mate, just try and enjoy it a bit more as you have a great club with great values there my friend..

20 Sep 2015 22:17:04
Fair comment Ed :-) I'm just envious of the ambition that those 3 clubs have from board to fans and then I look at us and? Crack open another beer :-(

{Ed025's Note - good to hear mate..

20 Sep 2015 23:00:36
I must admit I don't enjoy it when we start to tail off knowing it could and should have so easily been different.
It bugs me to have the resources at our disposal at not use them season after season.
Last season what difference would a DM in August have made and this season a quality striker, to me it just doesn't seem so difficult to make right.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree mate..

20 Sep 2015 23:42:28
I think this Summer was the perfect time to cull the squad and bring in fresh faces.

Stadium paid off, money in the bank and 2 successive FA Cup victories.

Everybody is on a high.

We should have got rid of Arteta, Flamini, Sanogo and Campbell, to go along with the sale of Podolski.

That would have cleared up some space in the squad as well as releasing approx £300,000 per week in wages.

Than, we sign a striker, even somebody obtainable like Charlie Austin, because Benzema and Cavani were never going to happen.

A DM like Schneiderlin (Carvalho was a possibility until his 4 month injury), and we are good to go.

We have definitely missed a trick this Summer, so 3rd or 4th place trophy is best we can hope for.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 23:16:07
Ed what it all boils down to, before the season starts every fan has expectations, for every club and every expectation is different for each club realistically. My expectation is we should, could win the league. We all have signs and standards we look for, when we don't see what we want to see we all every fan up and down the country have an opinion. And we are all right.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 18:12:11
Anyway weds the reserve league Worthington cup mug against the mighty always in our shadow spuds. Can our young lads go out and beat them, i know its only a plate competition, but spuds will be taking it serious, it the big trophy for them and old hotch potch will put a strong team out, but it will be a nice night to look forward to to see them promising youngsters we have beat their world famous ( in tottering ham) souper stairs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Sep 2015 18:41:21
I think we will field a strong side against them and probably end up going for the trophy by default a little similar to the FA cup 2 seasons ago when we were top of the table, if we hadn't drawn spurs in the 3rd round that year I think we would fielded a weakened side but Arsene's hands were tied by the draw and we ended up winning the cup.
Its difficult to image not being in this seasons top four but also very difficult to see a lot more than that so we have the Capital one and FA cups to go for as more window dressing on a season that is highly likely to much like the last 10 league wise.
Champions league I expect the usaul qualification and who knows maybe just maybe a QF instead of last 16 exit, we are still a decent but not top team and that is enough for those who decide these things.
What's to do but grin and bare it?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 19:11:50
Don't you mean Grimace?

I'm not too sure qualification from the group is a given . If the Germans beat us twice then the pressure is really on.

Wednesday night I hope we put out the weakest side possible at least an excuse is acceptable, we don't want that cup getting in the way, our squad couldn't take all the matches. Hopefully Sanchez will be left at home putting his feet up.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 19:37:40
My guess is Sanchez on the bench and hope he doesn't need to use him but not daring not to have him to hand just in case, 4th or 3rd and no cup? Wouldn't be easy to disguise as progress but even the league cup would be portrayed as a major trothy if needs must.
Arsene without Dean doesn't have the confidence to bid much more than 16 million chambers Welbeck Gabriel etc with only total no brainers like Cech Sanchez and Ozil ( the Ozil of Madrid was a very very top player) being difficult to justify not taking, fortune tends to favour the brave but seldom shine on the idle.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 19:37:44
Play a weakened team, let's concentrate on FAC, Prem and CL.

That means 3 defeats in 7 days.

Ouch.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 19:42:00
Steve I think arsenal will be taking it very seriously its the only trophy you have got s chance of winning. You got no chance with the league and you won't get out of
F the group in the champ league so I think its best you have a go. Also we have a brilliant bunch of youngsters. Coming through in Ali,dier, mason Kane, bentaleb ,Carroll I can go on plus with our new signings looking class in njye and son we are on the up while you lot are going nowhere

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 20:20:08
GAYver,

You are playing us in 3rd round.

It's your Cup Final.

We will play a weakened team and you will be near full strength.

Why?
Because little cups are for the little teams.

Love you really though mate.

Ps, you know you told me the other day, you weren't going to take Mrs Raver out for a meal. Go on, if you beat us, take her for a meal, i'm sure she deserves it matey.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 20:51:21
Risk 3 defeats on the trot? I don't think we will simply because of the past week so much hasn't gone to plan and Arsene will want to get back on track asap with a trip to a boyant Leicester up next.

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Sep 2015 21:21:47
Dags you say small cups for small teams that sums arsenal up. No trophys for years bar 2little fa cups which no one cares about anymore lol. You also say I should take the wife out I do when arsenal lose and its costing me a fortune as you deem to lose quite regular so it looks like a night out again on Thursday when you have the runaround again at whl lol

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 22:02:36
Haha,

You crack me up Raver.

Mate, you would love 2 FA Cup's on the bounce, that way you might keep a manager for more than 12 months.

I bet Poch is pooing himself at moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 22:31:59
Raver I hope they take it seriously with all due respect we are playing the greatest football team in tottenham. We do also have to keep you down in you place even in the tiny cups. We never get the chance to play you in the big ones, you just don't quite seem able to get there. It will be nice to know our kids are better than your littleold team.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 17:24:31
Sanchez is tired of carrying the other 10 players.

He has had enough, that's why he is playing no better than the others.

Agree2 Disagree1

20 Sep 2015 17:38:42
I think that is over the top in the extreme Dags. He is tired and out of form.

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Sep 2015 18:00:07
Sancez needs direction from the team from the manager from where ever . He is running all over the pitch, down blind alleys , into other peoples spaces, wasting energy doing too much. Shape and direction is needed to get the best out of all our players and they are not getting it. They are sent out onto the pitch to express themselves not play to a team ethic. We get caught out of position more times than any other team in the league.

Agree0 Disagree3

20 Sep 2015 18:19:04
I know Ubistonk,

Just thought I would throw it out there to guage a reaction.

Although, I might have a point mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 19:00:00
I would expect him to be looking for reassurances on next summers window to happily stay a 3rd season, the blokes a natural born competitor who will always give all he has which at the moment is below his best because of physical and mental fatigue but its hard for anyone to be up continually for a battle they know won't be won.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 19:13:59
God only knows what story Wenger will give him , it hadnt crossed my mind too be honest but your right , look where he came from............sooner or later he will be asking questions .

20 Sep 2015 15:47:57
One thing that annoyed me yesterday, how many times did Costa catch kos in the face and he didn't flinch!! Then he pushed him With his chest and he goes down like a sack of spuds, if Ian honest I though kos would have flipped we need more players like gabs ,he didn't take any mess off Costa and didn't flinch when Costa tryed it on well done gabs d

Believable2 Unbelievable0

20 Sep 2015 17:51:36
With all due respect, what an idiotic notion. If gab had stayed as calm as kos, then costa would have been the one who got sent off, because he would have got a yellow card and i'm sure he woul have had a rush of blood again before long. But naivety of arsenal yet again is our undoing. Saying that i think naivety runs through the club, which reflects the manager.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 18:23:51
Tbf, I think crybaby does have a point.

But,why is it always us?

In big games, why do we never stand up and be counted?

It's our own fault.

We seem to roll over in big games, fall for other teams dirty tricks, get players sent off all the time, whilst they always finish with 11.

We have no leaders.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 18:26:47
Ian sure he didn't even get booked!!! Even if he did there manger would have pulled him Off like Oscar that's like saying if my auntie had balls she be my uncle, u can't be certain he would have got another booking!!

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 18:43:05
Cry baby, no i can't say that for sure, but i can say we got put down to 10 men for petulance and took a lot of the heat off costa. He did get booked and kos was doing a very good job of bringing it all to the attension, before naivety set in with gab.

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Sep 2015 19:02:46
I for one am happy gabs stuck up for our team a lot like pv4 use to do

Agree0 Disagree3

21 Sep 2015 09:10:54
I disagree

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 16:05:15
After the dust has settled now, does anyone else think the team lacks spark for want of a better word? This season there is no urgency or fight at times and some players look half-hearted. Events yesterday are just covering over some major elephants in the room like ozil and his lack of commitment, and the fact we lack pace combined with power . What do you all think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Sep 2015 16:22:45
Well I don't think we lack pace for a start. Theo, Ox, Sanchez, Bellerin and then we have Welbeck to come back? I think we haven't really got going yet, only played well in patches, and I think there is a lot more to come from us. I'm certainly not already panicking or giving up like some people seem to be.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 16:44:15
I meant power to go with the pace we have already. I do think that some players need rested, Ramsey and Sanchez to name but two. I think man city result has put a lot of things into perspective this weekend, lower teams are taking points off the two favourites for the title and I can see this pattern continuing for a while, so it's not all bleak in terms of challenging.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 16:45:07
Who has given up??

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 16:45:46
Ubistonk,

You are correct. In Theo, Ox, Sanchez, Bellerin and Welbeck we have pace to burn.

But, we move the ball around too slowly. One pass, sometimes two, too many.

To utilise fast players you need to move the ball around fast.

Look at Stoke game.
Ozil, deep in own half, puts a ball over the top to Theo, who scores.

Look at Arsenal of old, with Thierry, Freddie, Vieira and Pires.

We could be defending a corner, 5 seconds later we counter attack and score.

This team doesn't do that.
They don't have speed of thought like other Arsenal teams, which is amazing because they are all teams managed by Wenger.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 16:53:01
Ubi i ain't giving up as you put just holding a long term view that is still the same now as it was before and i have seen nothing at all to make me think any different. I would like someone who thinks we are better now than we were last or the season before to tell me where because i don't see it. We are toothless and rudderless in our approach, just recycling each game what we have done before. Sorry i see no progress.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 17:09:53
I agree with that Dags. Our best performances last year were playing counter attack, not possession. Take Villa at home, think it finished 5-1 and they had more possession than us. We need to get that back in our game. In the end Steve, progress will be measured at the end of the season, not now. If we finish top 2, then that will be progress.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 17:13:10
Agreed DagGun - that's why Rosicky is still so valuable and missed, even at his age... rather than put out to pasture as many would like.

Bloody hell.....we say that every season when will it sink to you and others. It is always ' next season' and no progress isn't 2nd if we are 10-15 points behind the winners.

As 62 posted a few days ago progress is still being within a couple of points with a few games to go .

This season we won't even be champions of the Autumn

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 17:31:36
Guys Rosicky has no future at this club , sentiment wins you nothing, SAF would have shipped him out ages ago

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Sep 2015 17:32:19
Wo wo wo there Ban, don't go having a meltdown. I never mentioned next season mate. If you finish higher than the season before then that is a form of progression, because you have become stronger relative to the rest of the league, that's all I said. Whether we make enough progress to satisfy you is another matter entirely.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 17:39:48
BanGun give your head a shake, who cares about next year - any game when we are stale and methodical, Rosicky is often our best option for the last 30 minutes. He moves the ball fast and plays with his brain - makes everyone better with their spacing and movement- you have watched him play right?

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 17:43:47
I don't have to wait to the end of the season, it would be an absolute miracle and a total meltdown of teams around us to finish 2nd this season. That seems to be a get out by people, it seems that's said every season and the same loyalty to the cause is let down, it will this. Your eyes must tell you that. I will judge at the end of the season, but you get a big idea where you are going week after week, month after month.

Agree0 Disagree2

20 Sep 2015 18:19:43
It would not take a miracle for us to finish 2nd Steve. Sorry mate, you are entitled to your opinion but that isn't just extremely pessimistic, it's just plain silly. So you are saying that you have seen 2 or more teams this season that we have absolutely no chance at all of finishing above? Who are they?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 18:48:25
Ubi we ain't that good , we have a soft center and we are not progressing, we are serial bottlers and that it still there. The manager is making error after error and we are drifting into another ground hog day. You tell me what you have seen that disproves that.

Mate many of us share your pain and are desperate for change that never comes, as we plug one hole two more appear.
Only by being big brave and yes brutal all in one summer can we ever put things back on track.
Arteta Flamini Rosicky symbolise what's wrong with the club along with the fact we're still waiting for Jack Theo Gibbs to come good in the end.
While we're busy being patient our players who were already the real deal patience ran out and moved to clubs whose ambitions were as big as their own and how many went on to win tiltes with their new clubs while we still talked about the future dreams that are yet to happen.
Its to easy to dismiss the players who left simply as money grabbing mercenaries which they may or may not be but their all mercenaries with championship medals because they went else where while Arsene covered over a few quid here and there.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 13:42:58

What bugs me is its obvious where are problems are but me personally don't want to see another manager Come in and sort it. I want our manager to sort it because we all know he is more than capable but it baffles me why he doesn't fix it. Maybe he had his targets and made a risk waiting for them and it didn't pay off

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Sep 2015 15:37:30
Hes 66 should have retired last year like most people do when they are not able to keep up with the youngsters. he's past his sell by date, and will never fix it as you say because he is old stubborn and past it. Sorry to sound hard but facts are people of his age are usually playing golf or bowls because that all they are good for.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2015 19:08:16
It's difficult tho. Me personally am a huge Wenger fan. Maybe it's because i only started watching football in 96 when he took over when I was 8. So he is all I've experienced at Arsenal. However you're right how many times can we say next season. Maybe he is planning on stepping down soon. That'll explain the lack of spending and the huge cash reserve
