looking at the strkers we need to improve our forward line

arsenal

giroud, padolski, walcott, gervinhio

man city

tevez, aguero, dzeko

spurs

defoe, dempsey, bale, adebyor

man u

rvp, welbeck, hernandez, rooney

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why? We just need a winger

Agree0 Disagree0

Love how the only names you spell incorrectly are current and former Arsenal players.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's understandable that you may not be able to spell other teams players but at least learn to spell our players names before you post Ffs

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not do the actual calculation on how many goals each set of strikers have scored this season and I think you ll find we are not to bad!

Agree0 Disagree0

Are strikers are not good enough tbh

giroud-works hard but he misses loads of chances needs to be mre clinical

podolksi-hes had an okay season nothing special plays wide should play upfront

Walcott-I don't rate theo u guys going to say loo at the stats but Walcott is crap we could use an upgrade.

gervnhio- this guy is just a horrible player sell him!

dezeko, tevez, aguero, rvp, rooney, bale are all better than our strikers we need a quality striker jovetic, higuain, lewadonski

Since we have lost diaby for the rest of the season, and we sold song, we are woefully short in midfield in regards to height. This has probably been the reason why Giroud has pretty much started every game instead of Walcott or Podolski through the centre. Next weekends game will make for interesting viewing as Manchester United do have some decent height running through the centre of their team.

For the same reason this is why I think a 6ft plus defensive midfielder is almost a guaranteed purchase during the summer break.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are not guarenteed a 6ft plus CDM at all. Most people, including me think we need someone but Wenger doesn't seem to clock that yet. If only we get somehow clone Gilberto and Viera into one player!

Oh well, it could have been worse, thank god for that late goal

The big game is shapping up to be chavs v spurs on 8 May and the result of that negates the benefit of the game in hand for at least one of them (a draw does pretty much that for them both)

Chelsea have much the worse run in. They've still got ManU, Spuds, Everton and they have the Europa games. They will drop points - we just have to take advantage and not let them off the hook

Bottom line is that we should give everything to finish above them both but to get CL football (at least at qualifying stage) we only have to finish above one of them.

To do that we have get 3 wins and a draw. 3 wins could be enough but that makes it tight

Get ready for squeaky bum time because 40 years of being a Gooner has taught me this will go to the last day and maybe even to goal difference - Arsenal always seem to do things the hard way lol

I've already started to grow my fingernails so I've got plenty of chewing material for that last day!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We need to win four out of four games. I know its a lot to ask, but if we can do it, spurs or Chavski will drop points.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate, I think you're spot on. I was calling it 4 wins and a draw before the. Fulham game.

I reckon we'll now win 3 and draw one for 3rd.

The draw will NOT be Man U - I reckon QPR or Wigan.

Call me crazy.

Spuds will be 5th.

Agree0 Disagree0

We've been saying for yrs arsenal have missed a bit of bite

Agree0 Disagree0

I still stand by my prediction of 71 points for 3rd and 70 points for 4th.

so that means winning 2 games and draw 2 games. or win 3/4.

Hopefully Manchester United win the title today. so the pressure is off them to win at emirates, also they maybe in party mode already and we could capitalise and win it. because we should have more desire at that point. saying that the fulham game showed the desire we have is to stink it up.

Tottenham still have some dangerous games. chelsea away, wigan away, stoke away.

while we have qpr away and newcastle away.

but with reading vs qpr being the next game. that will decide the level of energy QPR have when they play us. they should be all but confirmed as championship bound. so hopefully they won't put much of a fight on and we can capitalise there. with only Newcastle as the game that I see us possibly best case scenario coming out with a draw.

so we have to win the remaining games.

Dear Commentators,

Arsenal do control their own destiny.

We are up 1 and 2 on Chelsea and Tottenham respectively with them holding a game in hand; however, they have to play one another, if we win all our games, and we have a better goal difference than Chelsea after 38 games, if we win every game, the worst we can place is 4th. but, of course, why would I expect a commentator to actually know the variables in the race for the top 4.

James R.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we're 2 ahead of Chelsea and they win their game in hand they are 1 point ahead if spurs win theirs they are 2 ahead meaning we just need to win and hope Chelsea/Spurs f**k up

Agree0 Disagree0

Spuds and chelsea have to play each other. one or both will drop points there. we need to beat utd. Not comfortable with that

When my Dad told me that he had got tickets for the Arsenal United game that is on my 21st Birthday, I never once considered the possibility that I would see us give Manchester United and Van Persie a guard of honour. I'm praying to every higher power that will listen that Aston Villa pull of a miracle tomorrow and that we thrash them the following week and take control of a champions league position. Still really excited to be going to the Emirates I know how much tickets must have cost, an unaffordable amount for a student like myself. Hope you all have a good week.

Spurs won then 3-1 slight advantage them now with us playing Manchester United next.

Man Utd can win the title by beating Villa Mid-week so I hope they do, so that they are not playing for the title when they play us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed, as much as it would pain me to see us give a guard of honour to van persie, if it means we win the game as they have already won the league then fair play. but then again, IF. we have had enough bitter pills to swallow as arsenal fans these past few seasons so one more can't hurt too much. it seems this is not just a pivotal point in our season, but in our future

Though I hate to say this, Spurs are playing with great intensity, and you can feel the drive in the players and the manger for wanting to finish in top 4.

I just hope we show the same effort against Man-u in the coming week. I just pray Arsenal show up. And if we play like we played against Fulham, we are so so doomed!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have faith we can beat any team on our day, positive mind equal's a positive result

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes slight advantage back with them now with us playing Utd next. They have Wigan next weekend which could be Wigan's last chance to survive so will be fighting full on so difficult game for Spurs mind.

I hope Utd beat Villa now mid-week now to secure the title so they are not going for it full on when they are playing us, which I would be fearful of.

I Think we still have the better run in. Don't forget that Chelsea and Spurs still have to play each other so either will take points of each other.

We have QPR that are already down and Wigan which could be down when we come play them aswell, then Newcastle last game away but they should be safe then.

Add in the fact Chelsea have Uefa games mixed in I am still confident we will get Top 4 but it will be close.

I read earlier the post in relation to Arsenal needing to finish with between 67 and 72 points to secure CL qualification based on previous teams that placed 4th.

I think that is incorrect, the poster while well intentioned was looking at what the fourth placed team's points total was instead of what the fifth placed team's point total was plus 1 point.

So in summary from 2003 to 2012 to ensure champions league qualification you would need:

2003: 65 points
2004: 57 points
2005: 59 points*
2006: 66 points
2007: 61 points
2008: 61 points
2009: 64 points
2010: 68 points
2011: 63 points
2012: 66 points*

(* in 2005 5 teams qualified after Liverpool won the CL; in 2012 Chelsea took the automatic qualifying spot from Spurs by reason of the "Liverpool Rule")

So in any of the past 10 seasons if a team reached 68 points they would place fourth or better.

Of course, I would prefer Arsenal to place third and get into the CL group stage automatically, so let's just win all our remaining games and hope that Chelsea's terrible run in does it for them and Spurs do what Spurs do.

I think all fans will agree that 3rd would make convincing players to join easier than the uncertainty of a qualifying tie in August (or the players we would want to join would wait until after the tie). I think all fans would prefer getting the transfer done early so that there is a full pre-season for the players.

Here's to hoping we finish the season strong and mount a title challenge next year.

Some arsenal fans are never happy. Yea we didn't play good against fulham but we got the 3 points. Fans moan when we play teams off the park and lose the game and say they would rather us play bad a win then when we play bad a win the moan about that as well.

Teams don't play great every game and that has been arsenal's trouble recent years is when we don't play good we more and likely lose the game or get a draw where as utd chelsea etc would play bad a still win the game.

it really dosen't bother me as long as we get the 3 points. I mean we know we can play some of the best football around but when we don't we still need to win games.

Wenger: Samir, you will go to city and sit on the bench, then when you start a game you will knock Tottenham out of the race for top 4, understood?

What players do you think will definatly be shown the door this summer. The obvious ones are Squillaci, Djourou and Arshavin who are definatly leaving. But will it be easy to get rud of the other deadwood? Santos, Chamahk, Bendtner, Park, Denilson. I doubt we will find any clubs for these misfits.

What about other players who aren't so useless, like Manone, Fabianski, Frimpong, Gervinhio. Are they still in Wengers plans? I think he still has confidence in Gervinhio, but if he wants to bring another experienced keeper in surely one if not both Fabs and Manone will leave?

Also its rumoured afew first team players are on way out. I believe all Podolski rumours are bull. You can clearly see when he plays he's in pain or restricted by injury. Sagna is a favourite of Wenger but I feel his time is up, he's been one of the best full backs in the league over the years but 2 leg breaks really taken it out of him. Vermaelen? Who knows. If he is still 3rd choice by summer he'll be stripped of captaincy for sure. Anyone know the situation with him?

Detroit Gooner {Ed027's Note - Podolski needs a op, Vermaelen is one i'll have took up on, I expect Sagna to run down his deal or leave.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can't afford to lose anyone this summer. We need as many faces as possible. Even Chamahk.

Wow our last few games have been hard watching Fulham was a shambles. But we're picking up the points we need and I suppose at this late stage that's all that matters. When you think of it maybe were better off finishing in CL place this way crawling over the line arsene won't convince himself we finished really strong maybe this team deserve another shot next year.

HI ed great job by the way. Anyone think our last few below par performances could be down to a few players being told their no longer part of the plans

You really think Wenger would tell his players that with such a vital few games coming up?.

just want to know why does giroud get 3 week suspension for his straight red when mertesacker and kosielny got 1 week suspensions for there straight reds? {Ed002's Note - Because it counts as violent conduct.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Poldi starting instead of giroud maybe the blessing we need. or walcott starting up front. let's just hope its not gervinho.

time for my take on summer activities. sorry its a bit long but eds and posters, would love your comments

GK: for me, chesney is more than adequate. 2 choices imo, spend BIG on neur, vorm, casillas etc. or a late 30s plenty of experience to pass down, looking for 1 last hurrah type of player, buffon would be ideal, or given/schhwarzer/jasskilinen (spelling) all with 1 good season left waiting for chesney to mature a little.

DF: Lb sorted. Cb/Rb not sure what's up with vermaelen this year, but hopefully its a momentary dip in form and sorted with a summers rest. sagna looks to be playing on autopilot lately and needs a change of scenery. to sign a real top cb such as hummels, subotic ect would need a 1 in 1 out unless 1 of the 4 cb's we have would be happy on bench for most of season; with the world cup coming that will not happen this year. ideal scenario for me, cash in on sagna, and replace with someone capable of covering both positions, such as micah richards

ST: fairly well stocked in this area with giroud poldi theo and finally joel campbell. ideally I would love us to sign a beast such as cavani or falcao, higuain or benzema would improve things, other than that is there anyone available that would improve us enough to have made the investment worth it?

R/LM: biggest investment needed here for me. we all know theo is not a winger. knock it in behind and he's superb, give it to him short to feet, he has no trick to get past full backs, if he manages to turn and face them without falling over! same with poldi, he will hold it up and play others in or get on the end of a 1-2, but no tricks to get past his man. AOC will come good next year I feel. Isco, lamela or di maria would be marquee signings, but if bayern land g bale, thhen robben, ribery or muller may be available? sanchez at barca may be another option.

CM: minor tweaks here, another beast needed, someone happy to stay put and not try and be a hero pushing forward (can you hear us from the barca bench Mr song?) capoue, wanyama, bender. not seen enough to judge to be honest, but thinking out the box, if as reported barca are in for another cb, mascherano would be a top signing in my opinion. isn't flamini out of contract up at the end of the season? he was good before but having spent a couple of years learning from the Italians, and gattuso in particular?
in an attacking sense, 1 top player needed for rotational quality goetze would be ideal, eriksen would be more than adequate, but a cheeky years loan for super cesc would be dreamy.

outs;
fab mannone
djourou, squid, sagna, santos
arshavin, denilson, frimpong
bendnter, chhamakh, park, gervinho, 20m the lot? saving 500k week in wages roughly?

ins;
schwarzer
richards
goetze
flamini
ribery
cavani 100m the lot? costing about 600k wages weekly?

promote; gnarby eisfeld yennaris/bellerin miguel ryo. {Ed027's Note - I think Ribery & Cavani would be out of our league, with Goetze you just never know because Wenger loves him, all of the outs are spot on apart from Gervinho

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The same Flamini that had only one good season with us out of eight and who hasn't kept any respectable profile since his departure?

did anyone else see Sangna's expression when we scored today. when Merts put the ball into the net, Sangna had no raised hands. and then when we went to congratulate the others in that big team huddle he wasn't even cheering with them. i'm sorry but wheres the joy for the team!

this to me was alarming to see {Ed027's Note - It was obvious after that early season interview

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's been a good servant to the club, but I think that it is time for him to move on.

I wouldn't have any hard feelings towards him if he left.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he left i'd feel the same way about it as I did with fabregas and eboue, they are both cult hero's and will be missed (even though eboue was shocking at times)

sagna has been brilliant for years, and if he moves on. thanks for the service and he will be remembered as one of our great right backs. shame he didn't win a trophy really.
