an ideal january imo would be
theo to sign new deal and play upfront either the loan striker or with giroud or in a 3.just give him the extra 15 -20 grand -the guy gives us a lift and scares the sh*t out of the opposition, if he goes to another premiership club wenger should hang his head in shame.
sell chamakh bendtner denilson squillaci fabianski gervinho santos djorou and like, use the funds/wages to secure our current top stars and add buying potential to new buys
buy youngsters like luke shaw to secure our long term plans
add a quality defensive midfielder be it capoue mvilla wanayma or whoever someone who sits infront of the defence and breaks down opponents attack, has a presence and can knock teams of their rythmn without being sent off and makes simple passes to jack and santi...i dont want my defensive mid to think he is messi and ronaldo rolled into one and go on the attack 3 minutes into injury time while 1-0 up - just sit tight. coquelin and frimpong need more minutes on the pitch be it on loan or for the first team before we can judge them and feel comfortable they can carry out the duties of a defensive midfielder
buy a no nonsense defender who will let his presence be known and give the team a kick up the backside if it aint giving 100%, powerful in the air and quick on the floor.
possibly another forward be it demba ba or whoever to give us another dimension upfront. we have the aerial power of giroud, the speed of walcott, the robustness of podolski, just someone who can finish off chances. dont be scared to spend the cash mr wenger.
give bouldy more time to train the defence to defend, cut out zonal marking and be more ruthless.
wenger to install a fighting spirit in the team and that doesnt switch off half way through a game or wait till it is 1 nil down.
this team has alot of potential but no cohesion, they look around for someone to blame, they need to pick up responsibility and take a few chances and believe in their ability, the days of carrying players has gone we need 11 players singing from the same hymn sheet and subs who can come on and change the game
COME ON YOU GUNNERS STUFF WIGAN TOMORROW- ONWARDS AND UPWARDS

Im not saying that this is 100% the reason why but..
Looking at the training session photos today, one stood out from the rest, it was the one where it is all the english/british lads (including walcott).
i think the lad will sign a new contract, sooner rather then later, i really cant see this streching through january where we run the risk of losing him.
thoughts?

Is there any chance of us trying to sign isco from Malaga, they do have major financial issues and need the money ? Thoughts Eds ? {Ed002's Note - I would love to explain but sadly the situation is such where it is not possible. However, nothing much has changed so a search might give you an idea about Isco.}

Isn't Mickaël Landreau the perfect GK signing for us in January? Now a free agent, so would cost very little. A great goalkeeper with a lot of experience, over 600 lique 1 games and 11 national team appearances. 33 so a few years left in him to provide competition for Szczęsny as he hopefully grows into a fantastic top leve goalkeeper. Also he's French so may be right up Wenger's street.

He's also a bit sloppy in his own way... He had a good run with Lille but wasn't good with Paris. He wouldn't be expensive for sure but I wish better for AFC

Seasons greeting my fellow Gunners!
As we approach the festive season allow me to begin by taking a moment to thank all of you and specifically the Ed's for a great site we can all participate on!
With all the wacky rumours residing over the club (and in particular now that Malaga is back, good to see you back mate) during this January window period allow me to enter my two pence on the topic.
I believe strongly that we have been under financial restraint since our move from Highbury. As such we looked to our youth to resurrect the glory that is Arsenal FC, unfortunately the circumstances of the markeplace changed. Fabregsas, Adebayor, Nasri and Van Persie were expected to lead the charge but new found wealth in clubs such as Chelsea, Man City coupled with increased spending from club such as Liverpool and Tottenham changed the landscape. In addition other clubs such as PSG brought even more new found wealth to the players wallets. All the while traditional powerhouses such as United, Barcelona and Madrid continued to spend magnanimously. Leaving the players with opportunities not presented during the time of the Invincibles.
Along this while the owner, board and manager decided to live within our means. As such some personnel decisions were made by the players (Fabregas, Nasri Van Persie). All left to pursue both financial and personal benefits.
During this period we have rebuilt and have maintained a decent position on all fronts while building a new stadium and renegotiating financial incentives for the club. Our manager Arsene Wenger I believe has done very well considering the circumstances of the marketplace (again he like us all is not without error, tactics, purchases can at time and rightly so be questioned). He has maintained the dignity of the club and has provided a new foundation for the club in a different financial marketplace that existed only 8 years ago.
As such I believe we are moving to a time in which our club which will be heavily influenced by English talent. I believe there is a belief amongst the club that English players have a greater loyalty to their respective clubs (Ie Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Scholes).
I for one applaud this! I believe as we did in the past with Keown, Adams, Seaman, Parlour, Dixon and the many others that we need a strong English backbone! Im proud of the recent signings and I hope Theo will see this as well!
With regards to the many rumours I trust Arsene to make the right buys. I personally believe we need to move out those who are not part of the present and future of the club and bring in a strong DM, striker and coverage on LB/RB.
With that my friends I wish you all a wonderful festive season for you and your loved ones, its always pleasure to banter with all of you!

January - Huntelaar/Ba 5-10 mil, Zaha 10 mil
Summer - Ben Arfa 15-20 mil, Baines 15 mil,
M'Vila 10 mil?
Out: Chamakh, Denilson, Bendtner, Squilaci etc.

A dm should be the no1 priority for this window. Capoue/de Rossi/ m'vila - then once we have one, see how strong/weak the team is defensively and assess what we really need in attack. Could be we sign a winger and play Podolski/Walcott upfront.

Jude seen today that uefa have decided to ban Malaga from Spain from competing in Europe with a 3 year ban. What's the opinion that this is just uefa rattling the sabre and punishing a smaller club for the public eye yet are sweating on potentially having to ban the likes of Barca or Real Madrid.
Reckon platini really hates the English clubs with their power and wealth so may make an English club a scapegoat. At least it's not going to be arsenal!

Its obvoiusly not going to happen but who reckons we'd win the league next season if we signed Messi. Could he carry us? I'd reckon it would we probably just about would.
Agree0
Disagree0
People say it's impossible and yes it very unlikely.
However maybe Messi will reach a stage where he says you now what I have done everything I want to archive at Barca time for a fresh challenge.
If he wants a real challenge we should come to a team like Arsenal not money bags club like City that are now expected to win everything.
It certainly a challenge now to make Arsenal successful again, and one thing he would appreciate is that we are a team that likes to play good football in a Barca style even if we are not that effective at the moment trying to do it.
I don't think Messi is Money motivated and he would lead with his heart if were to leave Barca.
Yes Messi has a strong bond with Barca, but perhaps he think he needs a change. Imagine if Messi was a free agent now everybody would want him so he could freely pick and choose. You never know he may have soft spot for us and English football.

Psychocyst,
Im not trying to get people to hate anyone, I'm actually kind of happy that he's back. Even though they are all rubbish, it's still good to see a few rumours and 'inside source' posts on the site. Hence the 'welcome back'.

I may get slated for this, but does anyone else think we should possibly go for Benteke?
He's already said his dream is to play for AFC, He's young, wouldn't be particularly expensive, clearly a handful (even though it has only been a short spell) but this guy has the potential to be a top player. He's causing every team trouble that he plays against and for once it would be a (relatively) proven prem striker that we need.

He's a good, strong, young striker...something slightly different to what we have so i think he'd be a good signing

Good call, He has certainly been impressive this season. Strong, quick and decent finisher. He is a handful to say the least. I think he does suit a more counter attcking style mind something we do not do now.
I would say a good option to bring in if Walcott does leave.

Heck, i'm happy to pay Theo whatever he wants too. does that mean i get to call the shots too? you have to realise that guy signing the checks has to step forward and be willing to shoot over Wenger's shoulder to get Theo to sign if money really is the sticking point.
on the flip-side, yes, Arsene does run a tight ship as regards to the paycheck and he cleverly mentions the money "he deserves" instead of "wants". sadly, Walcott's contract situation is turning into a game of chicken and Arsenal are the ones who stand to lose more.

we're out on money, out on luck and the only way we'll be getting lucky if all that booze doesn't affect the body that night.

If we were to make a move it would be a reasonable one, the only worry is his old knee injury. barring that total value for money. he will score in the pl. at 7.5mil its a good gamble if the goals get us in the champions league annd helps giroud bed in.although i would see if they take gervinho in return. theres no point in having too many players in key positions that are required to go off to the african cup of nations, either now or in 2 years from now.

Don't see the hype about Diame, I mean if we want to win titles we can't be asking for these types of players.
May sound a bit harsh but if you want silverware you have to be ruthless,
Diame wouldn't make the bench at any of the Manchester teams.
