Earlier this evening.

Mrs Dags: "You can watch Man City game if you want? "

Me: "Nah, probably end up 0-0".

Shows how much I know, lol.

Touch of class from AW when people say foreigners don't respect FA Cup and football stinks.

"But it was during our chat that I was given the impression that he brought on Alexis Sanchez late on in the tie because he knew what it would mean to us and all the fans that were watching.

"I know the decision to bring him on surprised a few, but I thought it was a real touch of class.

"I was sitting up in the stands at the time and our manager Paul Doswell came out of the dug-out, looked at me and pointed at Sanchez coming on. The look on his face said it all."

Yes nice touch, pity we didn't have a swopsy with them at the start of the game. Still theo went in the dressing room after and signed a few shirts.

I'm sure either the Sutton Manager or chairman came out after the game and said Arsenal were giving them £50,000.

21 Feb 2017 22:00:49
Yep, that was the £50,000 Wenger won betting on their reserve keeper eating a meat pie in dugout 😃.

I don't think anyone has ever suggested Arsene wasn't a nice person SY mate.
He does and says some very honourable things, much like offering Sheffield UTD a replay when we were less than sportsman like on the field in the fa cup a few years back.
If the premier league was won by being nice Pelgrini would still be at city and Leicester wouldn't be in a religation battle but it's sporting achievements on the field that win titles not sporting achievements off it mate.
Their are popularity competitions and their sporting competions and although the pinicle is to win both we shouldn't confuse the two.

No confusion - just making a valid comment. Everyone was quick to jump on the guy for bringing Sanchez on and for things he has done or not done.
Thought it right to show balance as it seems to be Wenger Open Season at present.

This whole incident with the Sutton reserve keeper is a joke. It's the bookies who want their knuckles wrapping . Why put stupid bets out that they have no chance of winning. It's not like a game where one side is trying to stop the other. Then when the guy eats a pie the bets in breach because he knew about it. Utterly ridiculous . It's entrapment.

What a sad end to what was a fantastic FA cup success story, a man who apparently use to sleep at the ground 3 nights a week loses his job over a silly error of judgement.
Sutton have acted swiftly and correctly given the circumstances but the people who placed the bets (2000 of them apparently) and the bookies need to stand up and be countered for putting a great club man in such a ridiculous situation in the first place.

At first I thought it was brilliant because it seemed "off the cuff" and spontaneous.

Since found out it could have been more "sinister" than that due to a possible betting scam, which is definitely a "no no" thing to do.

Since the incident, the keeper has now resigned.

Such a shame as it was a funny thing to do.

Agree sano, i'm pleased i got out of the grubby world of gambling years ago. They only like you when they are taking your money off you and its all geared against you. The fella is a real joker apparently, i think it wad a big joke that has gone wrong started by the bookmaker, shame.

There is a way out of it for everyone the punters who placed the bets the bookies and the ex assistant manager/ reserve keeper! Let the bookies pay out in full to a local charity and then draw a line under an the whole thing.
That way no real harm would have been done and some real good would come out of what is really poorly thought through joke bet.

G62,
That still doesn't alter the fact the keeper ate a pie in the dugout after 2000 people put a bet on that he would eat a pie in the dugout.

Dags that's unfair, apparently he hadn't had anything to eat since half time, he wanted a big mac milk shake and fries extra large but his car was stuck in the middle of the packed car park, so he had to make do with a mince beef and onion pasty.

Steve,
That's why I'm pissed off.

I had a tenner at 10-1 that he would have a big Mac, milkshake and extra large fries.

Well my mate had a ton on at evens on a kentucky fried chicken big bucket.

21 Feb 2017 20:53:05
You are right Dags, it was a very poor decision by him to take part in it.
I'm sure put in the same position some of us might have made exactly the same mistake as him that with hind sight we would look back on a stupid thing to do that seemed like a a good idea at the time.

21 Feb 2017 21:10:02
Lol Steve.

G62, when it happened I thought it was brilliant, but it turned a bit sour when the full story came out.

He exploited their position, rules are rules . why feel sad.

When you put it like that Banbury mate it's difficult to argue against what you say :-)

21 Feb 2017 21:35:01
Bookmakers are completely in the wrong. If they want to put stupid bets out then they should be prepared to lose money! It should have nothing to do with the FA because it has no bearing on the game or football itself! It was t like it was for Sutton to miss a pen or a player to go off injured it was that a man ate a pie. Nonsense.

Coral were offering 25/1 for arsenal to win yesterday but your winnings were only paid in free bets. Remember when the fun stops, stop lol. It's like all the token bollocks that goes into everything now like the plain brown tobacco products and the fact you can only buy 20 cigs or 30g of backy minimum. Great idea let's try to stop people smoking by making them buy more. absolute insanity.
