So what club let's a player go for free to buy him back for 100m? Even Fergie had faults.

For £100 million I'd want a better player than Pogba, that is Messi, Bale, Saurez, Ronaldo money and he doesn't even come close to that quality.

But it's United, they desperately want a title back and if you're going to sell a player, you want United to be the buying club. Is he worth that fee, nowhere near in my opinion.

On the other hand I'm certain Fergie didn't care, he was simply a winner. Can't ask for more than that in a manager.

They haven't yet.

Why do you care?

Whatever amount we pay is of no relevance to you.

Couldn't give a toss what you pay DD, much like I couldn't give a toss about your club as a whole.

It seems that players and their agents have too much power these days. The transfer fees and wages are obscene.

Yet rival fans can't stop talking about us.

22 Jul 2016 11:11:54
DD like I said the other day, fans have been taking the rip for a few years now, just because you may or may not sign Pogba makes zero difference. It's just sad fans reading other pages to say oh look everyone is talking about us. 😱

Each to there own mate and if it makes you happy then enjoy. 🙄.

Mario Gomez .
Surely he would be a great signing, and not that much as he is over 30

Been saying this all summer.

I genuinely adore the man, I would go as far to say he's one of my all time favourite footballers. He is a fantastic person and, was of course, a fantastic player. Plagued by injuries these last couple of seasons however so hasn't been as prolific as he was in his Bayern days which is a shame. Probably the right build of player for the Prem too, but no, not now.

22 Jul 2016 08:27:27
Now he's not staying at Besiktas, I'd have Gomez in a heartbeat.
He may not be a 'marquee' signing, but he's a great finisher, takes up good positions and has bags of winning experience, so thing we can only buy at this point.

He's also 30 and in the last year (I think, don't quote me) of his Fiorentina deal, so he wouldn't cost a bomb, which I'm sure would appeal to Arsene.

Unfortunately, I get the opinion that this is a classic Arsenal window.
Didn't get Vardy, so we don't have/ want a plan b.

I've got this weird hunch we are going to go in for Benzema. It might just be something I ate, but gut feeling.

Thing is why do we have to do late deals always to get some sort of player we need?

Well no matter how optimistic I am, I don't foresee this one though. Dare to dream Ozil mate.

Why would we sign a player who could quite easily end up in prison? Arsene isn't that sort of person, it's never going to happen.

I think it may be about time for Chambers to step up - we paid decent money for him and when he first arrived he got off to a flyer and looked really good.

If he's the 4th back and gets a decent opportunity to play until Kos is rested I wouldn't be too disappointed. He has size, is athletic, can make a pass and knows the system - let's do it bro!

Agree, plus he looked good at Southampton when he kept Clyne out of the team for a whole season before we snapped him up.

Did he keep Clyne out? Clyne was injured I think I'd rather we got Clyne then chambers.

Perhaps he lacks confidence playing for a bug club. Without doubt he's got all the attributes to be topnotch.

Wenger's Master plan:
1. Hope Leicester was a one-off
2. Hope Tottenham have more injuries
3. Get 4th place.

21 Jul 2016 10:41:50
He doesn't even have that as a plan.

21 Jul 2016 11:03:00
I think plan a came and went with Jamie Vardy and plan B is to wait and see what happens else where hoping the proactive clubs activity will let thier surplus players go which might make players else where available at a good price.

I do find the continual criticism of Wenger quite bizzare. He has been an amazing manager winning trophies, rebuilding the stadium and training facilities and playing a brand of football that is pleasing on the eye. Over the last 3 seasons he has won 2 FA Cups and finished 2nd last season. Very few PL clubs have done better and we will miss him when he is gone.

1. Of course Leicester will be a one off. They have lost Kante to Chelsea and others may go. They have the added burden of playing CL football next season and having more players on international duty. Chelsea, Man U, Man C and Liverpool will be far more competitve this season.

2. Injuries or not, I don't believe the Toot have finished above us during Wenger's long tenure at the club. Last season was a fluke, they had very few injuries and they were not in the CL.

3. We were 2nd last season, with many injuries. With the injured players out, youngsters emerging and new signings, the forthcoming season looks promising.

RG - my comment was more of a "let's lighten the mood".

We need to be realistic (all of us) .

We aren't going to break the british transfer record or ay pointlessly inflated prices/ .

For example, Bailly was valued on transfermarkt (not the best source I know) at 7mln.

. Manchester United paid 30mln!

===========
We should expect a signing that will be max 30mln, but more realistically a smart good-vale signing at 15-20.

So are you do your football manager searches try the following:

Attacking play (not necessaily just a CF)
Under the age of 25
With 3 years or less on his contract
Decent pace
Good Passing
Has international caps (o random brazilians)

Let me know what you find!

I find us boring to watch, we are so predictable, what's good about 80% possession and 300 passes sideways, then get to the edge of the box and are frightened to shoot.
Younger players emerging? Where?

New signings? Your kidding right?

I love your loyalty to Wenger but don't quote a cup comp that means nothing to most and a wonderful 2nd place which also means nothing . Big deal we finished above Spuds why do people keep throwing that in as an achievement?

Only opinions and it's good we both have them.

21 Jul 2016 21:16:39
Yes Wenger mk1 was amazing for our club and English football in general, Wenger mk2 was amazing for our club alone getting us in to the new stadium and paying off the debt, the problem is Wenger mk3 has completely lost the grasp of the mission which according to him and the club was to put us in a position where we could move on and spend on the right players when needed, we and Wenger have had 2 or 3 fantastic opportunities in the last few years but Wenger threw them away with his frankly crazy decisions in the transfer market.
His arrogance is killing the legacy he built with mk1 and mk2 if it hasn't already completely killed it.

Football appears to be evolving from small technical players, back to teams built around tall, physical, athletic players, with fewer of the small technical players. Recently we have signed Elneny and Xhaka, both athletic 6 footers. This morning I noticed in the media that we are interested in Sissoko from Newcastle, another tall, physical player. In our most successful Wenger teams, we had the likes of Vieira, Petit, Gilberto, Henry, etc; all tall athletic players. Thoughts fellow Gooners?

21 Jul 2016 09:32:17
To be fair that's not a football thing it's an Arsenal thing, I read an article about 5 years ago or maybe even longer saying how Arsene needed to revert back to what had worked so well for him in the past because his insistence on buying small technical players had lead to Arsenal becoming to easily overpowered by teams and unable cope with the physical side of the game.
Successful sides have always had strong players capable of mixing it and been defensively strong as well as good going forward.
I think the penny finally dropped for Arsene with the emergence of Le Coq against man city when the players insisted they didn't want to go out and get humiliated in the usual manner playing the same old infective naive football.
It was Arsene himself who revealed that the change in tactics that day was not his idea but was what the players wanted.

Absolutely gunner62,

our most successful Wenger teams of 1998 and 2004 both had tall, strong, athletic players. Withe the odd smaller player, such as Overmars, who was protected in midfield by the likes of Vieira, Petit and Parlour. I never understood how Wenger expected small technical players to be able to compete over a season in the rough and tumble of the PL.

Last season Cazorla missed a large chunk of the season after getting injured away to Norwich, whist making a challenge playing in a deeper role. Wilshere is another such player, who s perpetually injured.

Dags I'm still waiting

There were three guys talking in the pub. Two of them are talking about the amount of control they have over their wives, while the third remains quiet.
After a while one of the two turns to the third and says, “Well, what about you, what sort of control do you have over your wife? ” The third fellow says “I’ll tell you. Just the other night my wife came to me on her hands and knees. ” The first two guys were amazed. “What happened then? ” they asked. “She said, ‘get out from under the bed and fight like a man’. ”

A 12 year old boy gets hit by a car at a busy intersection. A woman witnesses the entire event and runs over to the little boy, who’s lying on the ground in a pool of blood. She gently cradles the boy’s head in her arms and whispers, “Do you need a priest? ” The boy moans, “How you can think of sex at a time like this? ”.
