Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

Eds, loosely linked to the two Nigerian chaps we're (close to) signing, how are clubs able to get work permits for non-EU players, is it solely an age thing?

And assuming an African youth player is interested in a move, would a lower football league/ full time Vanarama National League team be able to sign them?

Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not interested in answering any questions regarding Arsenal transfers but the situation with Work Permits has changed to a points based system that takes account of the fee as a percentile of transfers made, the wages, the league they currently play in and teh success of their current club.}

21 Mar 2016 13:44:28
I appreciate your stance on Arsenal rumours given the repetitive diatribe you had to put up with on that fateful day. But my question was more about English clubs, especially lower league ones, being able to sign African youth players as opposed to those who are above 18 or who have played at international level. Perhaps your answer covers both?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They cannot come from Africa to England under 18 but they can come if they have been registered in another European country - typically Belgium where a number of dubious "representatives" have been plying their trade which some might refer to as the exploitation of youngster in football. There has been quite a big deal going on in Belgium about it for a couple of years. Investigations are on-going in Spain which has the Cotonou Agreement where African and Caribbean players are not counted against non-EU quotas so there is a periodic influx of Africans, often young and from poor families.}

21 Mar 2016 16:09:02
Ed why is it such a mess when we are all in the eu so should be singing from the same hymn sheet as every other club/ country. It not exactly a level playing field.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So you would be happy to give up all of the EPL commercial income and media income to put Arsenal on the same level playing field as the likes of Marseille, Valencia or Fiorentina etc.? Interesting.}

21 Mar 2016 16:45:51
No i'm on about signing talent on work permits. Why can some eu country teams sign players easily when we cant. Not on about the commercial. We are all in europe but have different rules on signing "young talent" for example apparently we couldn't sign yaya toure but someone else could.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There are different rules in different countries as much of Europe has a very different cultural heritage. EPL sides are way better off overall than the rest of Europe so you have nothing to complain about.}

21 Mar 2016 17:07:06
Wasn't complaining just wondering why different rules, when we are all in eu. Why should a young player be allowed to go to spain for example but not here, because of work permit issues. Just a thought really.

21 Mar 2016 20:32:18
We may not be an EU county by the start of next season Steve.

{Ed025's Note - fair point that G62..

Thats us out of the champs league then. Lol.

21 Mar 2016 21:10:38
If that's what it takes to get us out of the eu then so be it!

Ooohhh a bit of politics slipping in there mr Sanogobrexit! I recon your on the wrong website for that, but feel free to vent your view on one of the many thousands of websites set up for it, although based on your comment the mail online should be good enough!

You could be onto something there boys! I've no idea whether to vote to stay or leave but you've just made it easy for me.
If we're in the top 4 end of May vote stay and if we ain't vote leave, phew thanks :-)

Good, don't do it!

22 Mar 2016 06:44:53
Thanks Ed. On that basis, if the two Nigerians sign, I think they're both under 18 so will they go on loan to somewhere like Spain until they qualify for Eu passports? Didn't we do this with Joel Campbell?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - most likely, yes and yes you did.}

22 Mar 2016 07:13:54
Much appreciated.

Apart from the West Ham and city games away, we should be taking all the points from the other games! I have a feeling we will only be able to drop points from one game to have any chance of the title!

The Spurs have a nightmare run in IMO and if they can come through them games and be top of the pile them fair play to them.

From what I saw yesterday man city is three easy points.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2016 14:04:11
Let's hope so Steve. Not that I'm holding any real hope of the title but I'm fairly sure we can only loose another three points on the run in!

That Swansea defeat could bite us on the butt.

If we don't win league, I hope Leicester do (obviously) and we pip Spuds to 2nd.

Would rather finish 4 or 5 points behind Leicester than 2 or 3 and rue the 3 points lost at home to Swansea.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Mar 2016 15:45:10
Looking at the fixtures left dags Leicester should win it, we should finish second and man city third or fourth with the toots. While Leicester would deserve it, I would feel this season is a massive chance blown. I must say though we have to produce every game like everton, which we haven't looked like doing.

21 Mar 2016 16:03:23
Leicester run in not the easiest either. You guys still in with a massive shout I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2016 16:08:06
We usually go on a decent run once we are out of all competitions but the tittle is usually out of the equation as well there's a small sniff of it but I feel we will probably have to win every game to seal it and that's banking on the foxes slipping up!

Dags there has been loads of games like the Swansea game this season . Fudges me off the games we have lost this year.

21 Mar 2016 18:39:38
Wrd I am so impress with Leicester, I don't think it matters even if we win all our games, they are doing the job very professionally, they obviously will not go un beaten but they have enough in hand i'm sure.

21 Mar 2016 23:17:00
We are the rank outsiders, but Both Leicester and Spurs Have harder run ins on paper at least and we have more home games so I am not totally ruling us out just yet.

We need to win all our games I feel and we are capable technically of doing this but you can never be totally confident in us doing that. West ham and City are the hard ones for us. We need Leicester to drop points sooner than later just to put some doubt in the minds.

Leicester look like nothing will faze them mind so even if they do drop points and don't think it will effect them too much. They have been scraping through games 1-0 more recently lately so the closer we get the expectation will grow and may get to them and tense them up in performance, but we will see.

The main thing is to get ahead of Spurs, will be unbarable finishing behind them.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2016 03:49:29
For Leicester to get 75 points they need three more wins for us to get more points we need 7 wins and that's only if they get three. Not giving up but I just don't see us getting 7 and them getting less than three.

So if you can believe the stories about Ozil wanting to leave if AW didn't jog on can you blame him? I'm would be surprised that Sanchez has not been thinking the same.
This is a bit basic but the comparison is still the same.
If you have ever played football in your life you will know that if you play for a weak team your personal footballing talent takes a nose dive and it doesn't matter at what level you play. In my life I've seen people that are really good players that join teams and within weeks their football looks atrocious. Why? Because they think too fast they are always one step ahead and the manager expects them to work miracles surrounded by players that quite frankly are not up to it. So if Ozil is thinking about leaving I wouldn't imagine it's just about Wenger but more about the whole set up.

Its not difficult to imagine Kos Sanchez and Ozil all thinking we're not getting any younger and can we afford to or even want to waste another season chasing 4th but I doubt they've said it to any one who would repeat it! Its up to Arsene to somehow convince them next season will be different and give them reasons to think it.
I know 50% of fans think it will be simply because Arsene says so and I'm sure some of the players are more than happy to just carry on as always but the other 50% of fans and the more ambitious players will need convincing by what Arsene actually does not what he says.
You can't go 12 years saying next season and expect every player to buy into it, some as they have in the past will move on to win the big prizes if they think their wasting their career with Arsenal that's only natural.

One of the dfferences is the last few years we have brought people in with an obvious vision sold to them and they are wnners of big leagues and trophies ( cech, ozil, sancez) . They have come into a squad not used to winning leagues and have got used to finishing fourth. The club mentality isn't the same as the clubs they have come from and they aren't used to "comfortable" they are used to playing with " winners" it is a different environment. Its obvious some players will get frustrated with what they see.

Elneny gives us proper balance in midfield. Has far better composure and passing ability than ramsey. Hope wenger won't bench him when ramsey returns. Hope we stick with elneny till cazorla returns. We have missed cazorla. seems our style of play relies a lot on him. we need a replacement for him as soon as possible. verrati or isco will be my pick but reckon we have a better chance of landing isco than veratti.

Against Everton the 'pace' in the team gave us the edge. The likes of Flamini (utterly useless) , Arteta, Mertesacker and Giroud, simply don't have the necessary pace we require.
Playing a proper defensive midfield player, Elneny, alongside Coquelin is starting to pay dividends and I believe we will see even more from him next season, when he strengthens up for the PL.
The top two will drop points in the run in, whilst we need to win our matches, which with the exception of very tricky away matches against Man City and West Ham are very winnable. Man City are having injuries problems and have at least two more CL matches to play.
Welback, Iwobi and Elneny were star performers at the weekend. In April top players return, which will help.

So ozil wants to leave if wenger stays in charge, interesting. I think this story could be a red herring but i'm sure we will find out soon enough. Not good either way. Is this just the start of things to come over next few months.

Not sure where this story come from but I wouldn't think it had much credibility, Mesut may well feel that way but I can't imagine him actually saying it.
I'm sure there are a few players like 50% of the fans who wonder how next season is going to be any better than this one but I doubt any would want their feeling known until the sumer at least.
