I've watched Jovetic for 8 years now, since he was at Partizan Blegrade, and there is no doubt he's an exceptional talent, he isn't and never was a striker, and if Arsenal does get him he will not be the lone striker, he'll play behind or alongside Giroud or some arriving striker, just like he played at Fiorentina alongside Toni and Ljajic.
Jovetic is definitely a player every team would want I really hope he signs for Arsenal and soon the Emirates will be cheering his name that's for sure.
As for the fee 30 million may be a bit hefty, I think 25 would be the right price and the price that I believe Fiorentina would be willing to accept. Although I think this should be done as soon as possible because a lot of teams are also interested in Ljajic including AC Milan, and if they sell him maybe they'll as more for Jovetic.

people seem to think mertesacker is some solid defender but that's far from the truth against Newcastle he made a couple of mistakes and has been made look good buy koscielny I would like to see another cb who is stronger faster and more agile edd what do u make of mertesacker?
imranredman

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So what's your thoughts on mertesacker edd {Ed027's Note - Oh sorry, I think he is a good defender, he reads the game well, he is a good tackler, but (always a but) his pace will always be a problem, it will be a weakness in our side, especially as we tend to play a high line, but someone with a bit of pace will cause problems. If he was able to jump and run he would be great, good positional sense and leads the backline well though

Agree0 Disagree0

I think they make a good pair Mertesacker by himself is liable and Kos evens with TV5 made a lot of blunders but together there a good bland and compliment each other very well

For me if it ain't broke don't fix it and our defensive record speaks volumes this year I would like another top CB brought in as it seems an area that we always get big injuries in.

Also people forget there are a lot of slow defenders in the EPL its just because we play a high line we get exposed a bit more a proper DM sitting in front of Mertesacker should help that a lot as it allows the defence to either sit deeper or drop off

Dandan

Agree0 Disagree0

His lack of ability to jump is a worrying one. Apart from that I rarely worry about his lack of pace. Partnered by Kos and with his exceptional reading of the game I don't actually think he gets caught all that often.

Stats don't lie guys. Our defence has been solid with him in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Defense looked good last 10 games because of Ramsey tracking back like animal. Arteta was solid too. I also noticed Walcott and Podolski tracking back. We defended as a unit and not relying only on back four. Let me remind You that Ramsey was voted player of the month I decisive period.

Anyone know the earliest we date that it is likely we'll see confirmation (Arsenal. com) of a deal, whether that be Jovetic, Higuain, Gonalons, Cesar etc.?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Transfer window doesn't officially open till 1st July but we could get 'deal agreed' before that e. g. Carroll to West Ham today. Could be announced on arsenal.com at any point but we know how cautious they usually are at making official announcements!.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well no one can officially join till July 1st?

Agree0 Disagree0

Podolski was announced before July 1st. Signing can be done whenever they just can't join the club until July if that makes sense. Once the ink dries on the contract it is legal though so can be announced.

Hoping and praying for Jovetic deal (he's an outstanding player) but i'd don't believe that we would spend £30m for him. No more than £24m in my opinion.

Lewandowski - immposible deal
Vermaelen - out for £7m - £12m
Chamakh - driving him to the airport

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 million euros buddy, not pounds. so you're much closer with your £24m estimation

And maybe we try to include Chammakh or Bendtner to the deal who knows? That's what I'll do!

I really don't see how jovetic is worth £30m.

Maybe I am wrong, but £30m for someone who I do not see as world class is a lot of money. And I feel it could be used better elsewere.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 mil euros not £

Agree0 Disagree0

30mil euros is still well over his value. second striker or not, his goal scoring record is pretty mediocre, and as someone else pointed out when you look at those goals, there's a few deflections, mis***s and tap ins amongst them.

I really don't think he's the player we need or want, even at half the price being talked about.

we need a goalscorer, ideally with prem experience.

for me there are two obvious choices.

1 - Benteke - young, quick, strong, great finisher and prem experience

2 - lukaku - see above.

there's talk chelsea are going for Falcao or Lewandowski - if so Lukaku is surely an asset they would be willing to part with if the moneys right.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love benteke.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, Jovetic at the rumored price is not worth, Benteke could be slightly cheaper around 20 millions and be the real deal we need. Plus he is an arsenal fan.
I will definitely prefer Lewandowski and Benteke both have at some point shown desire to play for Arsenal.

With so much paper talk already washing over my fellow goners like a cheap drink, making them giddy and excited I thought I would lavish you all with my own style of truth and tough love, 70million is not enough to turn us into the tittle winning, silverwear hoarding team we once were!

When mr Wenger came to us, he changed so much in the way of football on and off the pitch it took those first few years for every other team to catch up, catch on and begin their own revolution, now even the teams who would usually look set to be relegated have similar ethos and mind sets to us, taking that little edge away from us.

Then there is the whole wage and price war, we are indeed in the champ league and should rightly be proud of that fact based upon a look at our squad, Walcott good but not great, corzola good but not great, arteta ageing and past his prime, the lanky German not good enough on a regular basis for the prem, Gervinho another flop like so many before him, too many squad players who I wouldn't trust to do the job they are often thrown on the pitch to do, in my eyes only 10 of our current squad are good enough, meaning a massive 10/12 other quality and hungry players need to be bought, 70m won't cut it, plus even those that are available and good enough to move our squad forward towards title contenders, won't come to us with our current wage barrier, let's face fact, at least three transfer windows with 50-75m each time is needed!

Finally, I may get shot down for this but, its time mr Wenger took his seat upstairs, he has served us brilliantly, getting much out of players who shouldn't be in the prem or who as a group didn't look up to it, he has made us what we are today as a team, but that's no longer good enough, time for new blood, fresh ideas and the finances to do so!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thank the good Lord that you are not involved in the running of our club in any way, shape, or form.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2013 20:06:49
With your first breath you say £70 million won't cut it, with your last you say we have the finances.

Not a world class post, not a great post but a pi55 poor post to be honest.

I think any sensible Arsenal supporter is appreciating we will be in a far better position next season and through the following windows.

We're not daft enough to think in one hit that we are going to conquer all comers. If Arsene makes the right purchases it won't matter who knows the Arsenal way. It's who puts it best into practice.

It would be a bit niave of anyone to think with the right additions this squad couldn't do something. Utd, City and Chelsea don't have 15+ world class players. We can get in amongst it next season.

You're one of the somewhat can't really be arsed with football type supporters.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2013 20:29:15
Cazorla is as good as any other CAM in the PL with the exception of Mata And Silva. Walcott 20+ goals as a winger that's better than just good. Mertersacker is part of a formidable CB partnership, Kos wouldn't be able to do it all on his own.

But I do agree Arteta is past his prime. I thin next season for him he'll play less games as either Ramsey or New CDM takes over for the following season.

I don't understand why people are so hard on Malaga Gooner

So because we get outbid, or a player chooses another club, MG is a liar? Get a life folks.

1. We are a big club, in case anyone forgot
2. Big clubs usually enquire about big players
3. What's so hard about understanding us bidding for Hazard or Gotze or even Jovetic who MG called last summer

We talked to Hazard. Chelsea won the CL. They have more money, he went there. We went for Gotze, Pep went to Bayern which was unexpected, he picked them, when all along he said he liked Barca (because of Pep) or staying at Dortmund

I don't think MG's rumors have been far off, and if you also consider the suggestion that the last few years we were out played in the market tactically as many experts said, I can understand exactly why we missed on players.

Every year we hear about deadline day deals that were too late by us, usually for a player MG said we were interested in, Hazard, Gotze, Capoue, etc

1. He brings news which clearly peaks our interest
2. This is a banter and rumor site, not an inside source site
3. If you don't agree or like it, don't respond but it's not right to attack the guy. It's not like we pay money and subscribe to his rumors page

I think we will have an outstanding summer and push hard next season. Hopefully we can all enjoy that. MG, keep it coming mate. I think quite a few of us enjoy your posts and banter

P. S. what do people know about this Sanogo kid? Developmental or can he play next year?

the pattern I have seen from malaga is that he picks rumours that were on twitter or some obscure website a few weeks previously and then recycles them as his own. then when they don't go through he makes up some excuse as to why we got outbid.

i have never seen him offer any new or accurate rumours.

Malaga / Charlie / whatever hance you are using today. I'll try and give a sense response to your United rant.

Some of us have been there since the 70s and watched through Docherty, Sexton and Atkinson. The youngsters may have only experienced success but some of us remember being in the old 2nd Division.

So. SAF retiring is great news for all other fans who think United will fall flat on their face now. Moyes this, Moyes that and so on. I think who we sign this year will have a bearing on how we perform next year. We have been weak in midfield (probably weaker than the other teams in the top 5) and we need to strengthen. However, we also have a very strong U21 group coming through so with a couple of good purchases, the team will only get stronger. I know a lot of your posters are excited by signing Rooney - best of luck with that one. He can still have flashes of brilliance but seems troubled.

Moyes may or may not prove to be the answer but he will be given time. As sometime told you, we do things differently (something we have in common) and that's why Mourinho and his circus wasn't going to happen.

As for Arsenal, I don't think you are that far away, I'm amazed you struggled to get 4th this year. As ever, you need to keep your best players and sign top level quality; you don't need me to tell you that this hasn't happened in recent seasons. Let's be honest, if you had kept your top players in the last few years you would have some team.

I think Chelsea will be very strong next year, not sure about City but they are bound to spend big. Tottenham will get better with a couple of signings and assuming you buy well, you should also improve. Could be an exciting season, but I think it will be Chelsea and United fighting it out for the title.

Finally, despite your rant, I really like Arsenal and what they stand for. I can't stand City, Chelsea, obviously Liverpool (and Leeds) but I do have a soft spot for Arsenal. Lol, live with it.

Just going to add my two cents now the season has finished and the rumour mil has started.

We need one or two players who are capable of being more direct, using skill and speed to breakdown opposing defences and create chances for Giroud.

I am incredibly excited about Jovetic, this guy is pure quality, the gem in a distinctly average Fiorentina team that narrowly missed out on Champs League. He is technical and direct, and could provide an attcaking link from Mid to Goal, or could play up top on his own.

THe other area I feel we need a more direct approach is in the wing postion, as much as I love Theo and his goals this season have been crucial, I feel he is a one dimensional player who can lack confidance, especially with regards to beating a full back. With his pace he should be roasting fullbacks on a weekly basis but he is clinical and a fantastic option.

I feel however we lack guile in the wings, Santi has it but is more effective in the centre of midfield and does not have raw speed to back it up.

My choice would be a Hatem Ben Arfa. Controversial due to injury record and atitude problems, but this guy has a direct cutting edge and would be availible for fairly cheap, I think we could snap him up for around £10-12 Million. He has age on his side and everytime I see him play he looks able to destroy full backs at will. He can play on the left (as his favoured foot dictates) or on the right cutting in. I think he would add another dimension too the attack.

We obviously need a decent DM but not Necessarily as a ball player more of a destructive force who will break up play and feed the ball to the more creative options in the Midfield. Wanayama sounds perfect for this role as his hieght and presence are attractive qualities, his price tag however has risen considerably over the last season due to celtics success.

A goalkeeper is a must, anyone as long as they can communicate with the defence and be a calming influence.

And finally this position is a luxury for me because of the hidden depth we have especially if we secure Jovetic, a clinical striker, someone who loves to score goals, who eats, breaths and sleeps goals. These are very rare and we would need to pay premium money for. I would NOT like Higuain, he is not going to offer exactly what we need especially for the price we would have to pay. Lewandowski would be ideal but I can't see it, Benteke would also be nice but would cost over 20 million which is a high price. Javier Hernandez has the desire that would suit us be I doubt he would move, which is why this is the hardest position to feel. Ideally, I like Benzema.

In any case I do not feel that just because we have apparently got more money to spend that we become deperate like Liverpool a few seasons ago, buying players at massively inflated value. We need value for our money, but they aslo need to bring something different to what we have already, especailly mentally in their desire to win.

PTG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post and agree with most of what is said, but perhaps not on the players.

I agree with Jovetic being an exciting signing for us, who Wenger would definitely want to mould into an RVP type CF, who can link up play and make smart runs into the box to finish moves.

In regards to a winger, I think this will depend a lot on if we have any out going players in this department, as we have a few on the books. My ideal choice would be Antoine Griezman. Similar style to hatem ben arfa, but for me without the drama.

In the DM department, a battling DM is definitely preferred, but that player HAS to be a pivot first and a battler second. If you look at our currently setup, we are now being moulded into a counter attack team, which quite crucially relies on a Pivot player, who can quickly intercept and deliver the ball to the attacking midfielders and potentially the wingbacks/wingers.

For me Wanyama, for all his heart, lacks the passing vision that we need. In ideally world, we need an Arteta that is 6 years young and with twice the physical presence!

Gonzales is a better fit.

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I agree, I was thinking Arteta would be our passing DM and Wanyama would be destructive, if you could find a combination that was around 25, it would be ideal.

Havern't seen much of Griezman, but I take your judgement.

Believe me or not but I knew from day one he was special, I've said ever since he joined he's our best defender by a mile and will one day get recognition as one of the best centre backs in the world. With Mourinho set to leave Madrid it got me thinking, I know Jovetic is the main target, and Higuain has been talked about as another option, but is there any chance of us making a move for Benzema? Wenger has been a long term admirer, I just wondered whether Mourinho moving on and talk of Cavani and Falcao being of interest to Madrid whether or not he could move this summer as well.

Afternoon guys.

I was a little bit embarrassed seeing our beloved team which wenger has built celebrate getting 4th place like we have won the league. that's wengers fault for selling our best players.
any way on a more positive not it looks like we are going to have money to spend this summer. I just hope he doesn't buy average players. we need 3 world class players to complete with cheslki and city. ( don't see united winning anything next season ) what I want to know is if we had a choice of 2 strikes out the list we have been liked with or are available i. e. Rooney, Jovetic, higuain, lewandowski. Torres, Benzema and Dzeko. if we was to buy only one who would you want to see in an arsenal shirt.

Why would you want to get rid of Mertesacker, did you not watch our last 10 games, 3rd best defence in the league!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2013 09:47:49
In my opinion it is very unlikely we will move quickly in the summer window. I also don't believe Fabregas will return, or that we will sign Rooney (I mean really?) it seems quite likely at the moment that we'll get Jovetic, and I'm hoping for this too. Julio Cesar is also likely though I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'd suggest getting rid of Sagna, Mertesacker, Gerviniho and Fabianski, In My opinion I see them as liabilities, along with Diaby. I'd like to see a defensive midfielder signed, we never replaced Song.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mertesacker? Really? Him and Kos are a rock solid partnership, yeah he's slow but his reading of the game more than makes up for that. What has the big man got to do to win over people?

Agree0 Disagree0

You'd get rid of Mertesacker even though he and Kos have formed arguably one of the best defensive partnership this season? You need to stop playing Fifa mate last year Vermaelen was more of a liability than Mertesacker but you want to keep him?

Dandan

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry hang on. Get rid of Mertesacker? Mertesacker?! Mertesacker?!!

Mertesacker has been brilliant all season and is one of our best players. His partnership with Koscielny is arguably the strongest partnership in the league. He is a fantastic player. How can he be a liability?

Seriously man do you watch football?!

Agree0 Disagree0

It's extremely difficult to move quickly. First we have to sell/release quite a few players. Then the negotiations to buy. It's a long process involving the player, clubs, agents, accountants & lawyers. I would like to see us sell/release: Mannone, Fabianski, Djourou, Squilacci, Santos, Denilson, Arshavin, Chamakh, Bendtner, Park, Coquelin, Frimpong, etc.
We need a quality keeper, a commanding CB, a defensive midfield player & a top striker.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jovetic could replace gervinho in the squad if he's sold

-Homesick-

Agree0 Disagree0

It makes perfect sense.

We would have Poldi/Giroud/Jovetic/Higuain to choose from up front and poldi and jov are more versatile and can play behind the striker or out wide.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Jovetic will be a LW so we'd have

Walcott /Ox
Giroud / new striker
Podolski / Jovetic

So that would quite promising and offer us more depth

Dandan

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't forget Arshavin will be leaving this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2013 15:50:36
To be honest if Gervinhio, Chamahk, Bendtner, Arshavin and Park all leave we need 4-5 replacements. Not having enough Strikers is what cost Spurs and Man United who have an abundance of forwards won the league.

Gervinhio > Jovetic
Arshavin > Myiachi
Chamahk > Higuan
Park > Sanogo
Bendtner > Campbell

With Podolski, Jovetic, Higuan, Walcott, Giroud and Ox as first team forwards that gives us a hell of a lot if firepower and optuons. Pace, Proflic and aerial ability. Also gives us option to play 4-4-2.

Im not saying I expect both Higuan and Jovetic as that leaves only £20m from our alleged £70m budget. After agent fees etc both will cost around £25 each. Doesn't leave Wenger with slot to buy other targets such as a GK, RB and CDM. But then again purging of unwanted elements could raise some funds.

Higuan and Jovetic are both 15-20 goals a season players who are prolific. This is what we dearly miss. A Striker who will get goals when it looks like you just cannot break through like against Sunderland, Stoke, Everton. Either one of these arrives and il be estatic.

i was thinking about the managers wenger will go up against next season and I can see wenger going head to head with mourinho.

i really believe moyes will struggle at utd, I do not see utd getting any where near the title next season.

i think city will show their true colours and think they can buy success again.

not worried about the spurs and liverpool.

i am quietly confident we can make a real go for the title next season.

malaga gooner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

United will be the team to beat agin IMO.

By signing the likes of Fellaini, Bale, Baines and possibly Lewandowski or another top striker the chasing pack will have a lot of buying to do to even compete.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the Mourinho part, but if spurs do manage to keep hold of Bale then I expect them to be even tougher competitors. Moyes is a clever manager but I don't see Manchester United anywhere in the top 3. Liverpool will continue on struggling in the position that they always end up in. I believe it'll be a close contest between us Chelsea and Man City. Spurs will be a dark horse

Agree0 Disagree0

This is an interesting point. The changes at the Manchester clubs will definitely open things up a bit. I can definitely see a 4-way race with us heavily involved, provided we make the summer investment we are tipped to. Much as I hate them, I reckon Chelsea will be the team to beat.

Oleg Maputo

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it will be us and city battling for top 2 with Chelsea and United taking 3rd and 4th.

I can't see Moyes having a big impact at united in his first season, although once he's settled they will definitely be up there.

Chelsea, well we'll see who they sign but the past 3 seasons they have fallen off the pace when it really should have been them going toe to toe with City.

Man City, depending on who comes in and leaves, but their squad is by far and out the best.

We have the manager, the foundation of a team is there all we need is a few signings and I can definitely see us doing better than the last few seasons. Now is the time to capitalise

Agree0 Disagree0

Whoever the manager at Man U they will always be up for a fight, Fergie will still be around to motivate the team and if need be to give the hair dryer.
It will be a tougher next season but we will have the foundation and resources to compete at the very top.
IMO it will be city who will struggle, most of their strikers are thinking of leaving and with the new manager, it will be even difficult to manage the brats!
I think the title will be challenged by us and chelsea with spurs being the pretenders every now and then during the season but eventually run out of steam and this is when they keep Bale, without him they will be 5th if lucky.
It could very well be as below:
1. Arsenal / Chelsea
2. Chelsea / Arsenal
3. Man U
4. Man City / Spuds

Hi everybody. I would just like to say that the future for my beloved Arsenal looks very rosy indeed. A brand new stadium (almost paid for), a good core of English players (Walcott/Jekinson/Ox/Gibbs/Wilshere), money to spend on big players. All of this and we have virtually no debt like the other big 3 clubs. I would also predict that Jack will be Arsenal and England captain within 3 years. I am getting very excited by the upcoming years and would not be surprised to see us win the league next year.

Come on you Gooners

Heard a rumour (so don't shoot me down) that AW is going to make an exception to his rule of buying younger players and is going to try and get Andrea Pirlo as he's a massive massive fan. Not sure what the price would be but AW really wants him and with this money we've come into it shouldn't be a problem. Hope it's true because he is one of the best players in the world

Instead of the usual pinch, I will have to take this one with a handful of salt

edoo2 when a player honour's a contract do the club have to pay him anything when they leave or is it just the yearly bonus and a last pay cheque.

Was just wondering who everyone thinks our 3rd choice keeper will be next year with Szcz and hopefully a new keeper challenging for the No. 1 and 2 spots? Martinez?

Cheers!
