Arsenal poll latest.

87% are happy with Sczezny.

Good good.

Just a follow up to Akie's post earlier.
Wish Fabianski all the best wherever he goes.
He never let us down.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He did a few times but this season he has been a lot better could have easily messed up the final though! Good luck to him all the same his best years are ahead of him

To my mates Banbury and Steve r,

You seem to think that spending millions guarantees you world class footballers.

Ask Abramovich if he agree's that the £50m he spent on Torres was good business?
Or the £30m on Shevchenko?

Or Ferguson paying £28m for Sebastian Veron?
Or Liverpool paying £20m for Aquilani?

Or City paying £18m for Jo.

Or Madrid £56m for Kaka.

The list is endless.

You don't have to spend big money for get big players.

One of the most saught after defensive Mid's is Paul Pogba. He cost Juventus absolutely nothing from Man Utd.

Arsenal have the class and the team and the manager to turn good players into world class players.

We have done it time after time after time, and will continue to do so. Yes, I want the best players on the market, the Draxler's, Gundogan's, Reuss's, Kroos's and Sanchez's of this world, but I have supported Arsenal long enough to know we won't spend big and Wenger won't do wholesale buy's for fear of de-stabilising the team.

That's why I'm excited by the likes of Schneiderlain, Remy and Aurier. Good players who will become very very good players.

Like I said the other day, how many world class players have Arsenal bought over the past 20 years?

You can count the amount of players on one hand.
In fact, Abu Hamza can count the amount of players on one hand.

For me, we are 2 very good players away from being a very very very good team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Post of the year so far Dags! Great point well made!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree. I can only think of us signing Bergkamp and Özil who were already world class.

Look at our current team:

Szczeney - peanuts from Poland (a good name for a band.)
Sagna - 7m
Mertersacker - 8m
Kos - 8-10m
Gibbs - nothing
Wilshere - nothing
Ramsey - 5m
Cazorla - 16m
Ozil - 42.5m
Walcott - 12m
Giroud - 11m

That's impressive, and some of the legends like Henry, pires, vieira, Campbell. And some players who have been good players like Hleb, flamini, adebayor, van persie and nasri all for nigh on nothing and all bar Campbell were near enough unknown.

So why stop now! I'd snap up Remy and schneiderlian ASAP

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags have you been drinking again, I haven't got a clue why you keep saying I/we have been saying, we must spend big on wc players etc. What I've said is we must by players better then what we have not the same or less experienced. We don't need players who need potty training or are coming to sit on the bench and watch with us at getting fourth again. Unlike you I don't think we are as close as you think we are and I don't see what the likes of remy aurier or sneiderlin are going to do for us, and no I don't trust you lol. We need better players and not all better players come with big tranfer fees but some do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Akie don't miss out the other bargains. Santos 7m, park 3m, chamack free, sylvrstre free, eboue 3m, almunia 2m, senderos, reyes 12m, galas free, miatchi 2m and the other forgetable japanese player who went to fulham. Of those you have mentioned some have actually gone on and won the league though.

Agree0 Disagree0

And let's not forget stepanovs, sqillaci, bischoff, djorou, diawarra and denilson. All bargains. Lol. let's hope we get a bit better than them akie eh. At least we didn't pay 40 mil for them. Only poking gun mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am 90% with DAGS here and 10% with Steve.r.

You can only bed-in 2 new starters in a team - so if we go for 1 established big star the rest must be along the lines of what DAGS is saying, good players with potential.

2 big reasons, one the players we have are very good and Wenger is loyal to them so he is not dumping half the team and he is not going to block Gnabry, Ox, Jenkinson etc. Next, the discussion of budget is misleading we will not spend $100 m.

So we can dream to have a new team but then we wouldn't be Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags while I would agree, the landscape of the epl has changed since the days of henry and ice-berg.

do we have a player like matic or yaya toure? NO, we need to get a DM who will give the opposition a headache as much as they give us one.

we need a striker who will have movement and create opportunities.

while i'm happy for the likes of schneiderlin and aurier, I feel upfront we need someone more potent compared to remy.

at the end of the day, remy may not make the national squad over giroud and benzema, so is he really as good as giroud?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you Leegun.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney 30 million tenager Hazard Drogba its easy to list the big money buys that didn't make it but its the ones that do that deliver PL titles.
Henry and Reyes both cost decent money for potential of their day (17 and 15 million or similar) one a legend the other not so good.
Spending decent money is not a guarantee of success but it does put the odds in your favour and for every Torres there's a thousand Chamacks

Great Post Dags, I agree with what you are saying. Man U paid £28m for Fellani! They could off kept Pogba and Ravel Morrison instead. £35m for Carrol, £32m for Lamella, £25m for Soldado, £20m for Darren Bent (to A.Villa).

If we can get Aurier, a young, team of the season player for £6m or so that's a bargain. Vela £3.3m! that's insane.

But. In this day and age players cost x2 and x3 as much as they did during the invincibled era around 2000-2005. Wenger has a great chance here with his current crop of players and financial strength. So I just hope he spends £20m on a back up keeper, 4th choice CB and New RB. But £40m on a top draw player like Benzema or Khedira.

Welcome back Malaga Gooner.

Don't you just love that guy?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As soon as the transfer window opens, I know its malaga time. its like a holiday every 6 months.

that guy is soo creative, I sometimes wonder why he does not work for the daily fail, atleast he could class it up a bit.

Have I mentioned Loic Remy is available?

What?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Available for what? Birthdays and bar mitzvahs?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hiya DG & friends,,

Long time no speak, congrats on the cup victory, well deserved having beat some fine teams along the way.

In other news,

Cake gate has discovered that jose is the culprit behind yaya toure's hissy fit having sent the player a cream sponge with no less than 48 candles on it .

At west ham, promises of more entertainment have split the board on potential signings and to the availability in the busy summer season of either little jimmy cricket or the chuckle brothers.

After the second coming of jose at chelsea he self pronounced himself to be the happy one, but as the season transpired from next year he will now be known as The Route Master.

YNWA

Kind Regards.

Agree0 Disagree0

So are Shay Given and Grant Holt, and in the spirit of returning players what about Brendan Batson to replace Sagna.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately DG he is available, but for gardening, building work and any other household chores over the summer!

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Hesky is as well and he narrowly missed out on the world cup squad so we could get it done early! ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Oooohhh,

You bunch of atheist's.
Repent your sins and hang your head's in unholy shame.
I preach the word of the Lord. Lord Remy will arrive and cast you all into redemption, and hopefully a shedload of goals.

Evening Sizemick. How are you doing fella?
Are you looking forward to the World Cup and the Summer transfer window?

I know this is an Arsenal site, but has anyone seen the amount of top players Manchester United have been linked with? Its ridiculous. Kroos, Muller, Robben, Reus, Hummels, Garay, Carvalho, Shaw, Baines, Lallana, Sagna, Cavani, Di Maria, Fabregas, Javi Martinez, Marchisio, Vidal, Vertonghen. Where does it stop!

Honestly, can anyone see them spending £200m on 5/6 World class players. Van Gaal is a great manager and United will offer high wages. But surely no Champions league and the diasters of last year must deter a lot of these players. Also sure Reus, Fabregas and Muller etc love their current clubs. For all the Bayern lads they're linked with wouldn't United be a step down?

Unlikely scenario: Say they signed Kroos, Carvalho, Hummels and Shaw. Would they break into the top 4? I think a complete overhaul won't do them any favours. a lot of the players are capable. They won the league with the same squad.

I just hope their misery extends beyond this season, and that I never, ever have to see Cesc in a Utd shirt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we don't at least get a couple of top players and others all around us do, we could be in for a long long season debating how it all went wrong. You can only defy gravity for so long

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 21:19:53
Looking at other clubs:

Liverpool - Will sign multiple players to add depht and another quality midfielder, possibly Lallana. They will definatly improve as younger core improves.

Chelsea - Already got Zouma, and Diego Costa seems certain. Courtois might return. They will improve.

City - Will sign another CDM and CB. Probably Mangala and Fernando. Maybe another forward and winger. Will improve further.

Everton, Spurs and Utd are unlikely to go backwards.

Then there's us.

Im afraid Aurier for Sagna, a ST of equal ability to Giroud and an average CDM won't improve us.

Agree0 Disagree0

G62,

There will be no debating where it went wrong. If we fail to sign the players we need, we all know where the blame will lie.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 18:59:11
Top qaualty striker and DMF and pay what it takes to get them as after all isn't that why we moved stadium to be able to compete financially?
In other areas we can take a chance with a bargain or 3 but on these positions we have to go all out to get the very best we can without compromise

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 May 2014 20:52:25
It's got to happen g62 as thousands of us must be attempting mind transference or whatever it's called to get those thoughts in Arsene's head.

I really would be beyond astounded if he didn't make exactly that happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Benzema and Bender are the best options IMO then replace like for like Sagna-Richards Fabianski-Ruddy
Verm-Rami
And maybe a winger if we are short after pre season but I think Walcott, Santi, Ox, Rosicky, Gnabry, Ryo and Eisfield will be sufficient to see us through at least till January.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jenny,

"Mind transference"?

My God, that is so old fashioned.

I'm more modern, I use carrier pigeon to get my message across, or failing that, a horseman on a trusty steed.

It's so 'Now', lol.

Wasting time, money and energy dags, I just open the window and shout out to Arsene all the way from surrey.

DAGGSY

I have never said we need to buy world class players, but they need to be at International at the very least, we are Arsenal, some of the players mentioned will be out of their in the CL, not necessarily the PL though.

I know Arsene too well we will never get in a load of WC players but I expect a better standard than players who are in a standby squad. especially if we aim to improve

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 May 2014 17:26:23
throwing this one out as well.
if we bring back carlos vela. why not offer sanogo on a loan as part of the deal. would give him more regular first team experience and give real soc a replacement for vela.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't wish Sanogo on my worst enemy!

Agree0 Disagree0

throwing this out there. if we have first choice on whether we buy back cesc. how about this making us more in favor.
i know fabianski is under bosman and we can't tell him where to go. but how about pushing him towards barca in a sort of swap deal with cesc costing less.
unlikely I know but they are looking for a gk. fabianski deserves a top top club if he doesn't stay with us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't help by the fact they have already agreed a deal for der stegen

Agree0 Disagree0

Is this a joke? Fabianski is a good keeper, but he couldn't get into our starting 11 let alone Barcelona. They've also announced the signing of Ter Stegen who is one of the best young keepers. Seriously wow.

Agree0 Disagree0

This post made no sense!

If barca were interested in him why on earth would a player need 'pushing in their direction'

Agree0 Disagree0

Also as fab is on a bosman, any verbal promise is foolish in a business dealing in multimillion pound deals.

'pssst if we tell fabianski to go to you, one of the best teams in the world, if you let us pay you less for one of your top stars'

'pssst hmm ok deal'

arsene butters up fab, deal goes through

'now about cesc. '

'shut up arsene!'

and that's only if you live in saxons fantasy world

looking forward to see the result of todays football poll, i.e. arsenal's financial model.
personally I think its a perfect model for the sustainability of clubs.
a lot Liverpool fans always talk about how Liverpool are now/recently been looking to impose a similar model.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 May 2014 16:56:35
I was wondering, with all these talks and plans to improve the quality of English players, particularly in bringing through the youth. why not have English players more exposed in premier league football.
where every premier league team has to have at least 3 players in their 18 man team. or maybe more.
could this be a viable option you think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think a bonus point for every 7 games a side starts with 5 or more English players, so a possible 5 extra points over the season. It would encourage teams to go English but still give them an option if they feel its worth 5pts not to bother.
Not the best option I'm sure but they best I can think of

Arteta came into my work today with the FA Cup, nice touch. Anyway, I asked if he was interested in Fiorentina and he said 'I'd like to stay'. I hope Arsene does too, but if he's not being offered an extension we could be losing another from the cup final team on a free, next summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Where do you work?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be very happy with him but not sure he would want to be a number two keeper at this stage of his career

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty certain that Arteta is in Dubai, working with the Arsenal Soccer School, so I assume you live in Dubai then?

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe he will nip into my place tomorrow lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I work for Emirates, HQ is at Dubai Airport and I live in the marina so drove down for it. He was there with the FA Cup and doing quick photos

John Ruddy anyone? Been Norwichs best player this season and last, Also English and great back up to Schez can't see him grumbling about being the cup keeper too much either could be a great shout for a few million!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would like a goal keeper who will push sczesny, not one who will be second choice for 10 years

Agree0 Disagree0

I hear you Laker but who is going to be happy to come in and play second fiddle? I honestly believe that Ruddy would push Schez with a better defense in front of him than he has had over the last two seasons!

Agree0 Disagree0

That's what Brad Friedl did to Hugo Lloris so John Ruddy is not a bad shout.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is younger than I thought as well 27 good few years in him yet!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 13:09:25
Sagna is going to city and will be replaced by aurier.
We will be looking for a second choice keeper to replace fabianski who will leave to either shalke or Dortmund.
Two more players to come in :
A cf : madzukic, Benzema, Rémy or Sanchez
A dm : shniderlin or gonalon

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would like Alexis Sanchez, if he goes to italy, then its better than joining a Rival.

Benzema ditto, would love to have him but if he joins PSG again a bonus, he's not joining a rival.

Cesc - same if he's coming back great, otherwise PSG or stay at barca, don't want him to join a rival.

besides that Aurier and a DM should be our first set of business done and dusted asap.

i would love alex song to join spurs. the arsenal rejects do quite well there.

First of all I would like to congratulate the arsenal for the weekend of weekends, nine years of hurt was taken out on the whiskey. cheers again Arsenal, hopefully this is the catalyst for bigger things.
This should give wenger a second wind and hopefully make him realise the buzz it has given us diehard gooners. I am willing to eat humble pie, I have slated wenger on many occasions but he got it right. just about. (still reckon we could have done the double though, if he bought a striker in January)
Rumours are flying around of unrest for many players at clubs, there has been talk of hazard and yaya toure being unsettled. With our war chest, why not send out a statement and spend sixty seventy million on those two with aurier coming in at eight million, buy Richards from citeh IMO is better as centre half, buy vela a proper bargain at three million Toure would be our powerhouse midfielder, hazard would be our left side sorted and aurier would be perfect replacement for Sagna. With Ramsey, theo, giroud, podolski, Cazorla, ozil alongside hazard and yaya I think goals would not be a problem.

Just imagine:

. szecsney
Aurier. merti. Kosci. Gibbs
. yaya toure
Theo. Ramsey. ozil.hazard
. giroud

Subs
Vivianno Richards wilshere ox santi podolski rosicky vela diaby flamini

Players could rotate, and the quality would be the same, there would be less injuries. I would let arteta verm Monreal Sagna fabianski go and loan out sanogo Jenko gnabry and other fringe players. (What's happening with chuks aneke, I think he will be a monster of a player, he has size skill and power. definitely worth holding onto him IMO)
This I believe would give me another opportunity to hit the whiskey!

Come on you gunners

ed could you please put this on the banter page because I would like some feedback and thoughts from other gooners. cheers
Hulk Hogunner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think toure at 31 presents a significant risk.

He may look like a king or the reincarnation of viera on his best days, but having watched him in Europe, he struggles with stamina, especially against teams that know how to make him work.

He did not do much against chelsea, in fact matic kept him in check, even flamini did a great job when we drew at the emirates to keep him from being a nuisance.

I rate him highly, and if he was 27-28 I would love to have him, but with at best another year in him, I doubt I want him.

I remember we sold viera when he was 29, he had a 2 year window which he did do relatively well and then it was a decline of injury hell, and I can see the same with yaya.

Agree0 Disagree0

Although he is an amazing player the way he and his agent appear to be trying to engineer a move away from Man City is disgusting. Based on this I would not touch him with a barge pole. And if the reports are true I really hope City refuse to let him go and put him in to train with the youth team for the next 4 years, unless he makes a full apology. and let's be honest they can afford to do it!

Agree0 Disagree0

Few points seeing paper talk about James Milner coming to arsenal not sure on this one as for Dags soulmate Remy I wouldn't mind him in our colours.Anyone think that cardiff keeper marshall would be a great backup keeper?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

James Milner I just don't get this one. Don't want him anywhere near our club.

Remy not so sure on this one, a good option just shouldn't be first choice.

I was fairly impressed by Marshall last season. I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if we were to sign him,

I just crave a battler in the middle of the park William Carvalho would be ideal high price but my god he's a fine talent. No bs, built like a tank. And can play the ball out.

I can dream COYFG

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't say no to Marshall. but to be honest based on the season he has just had I can't see him signing for any club to be their no.2. especially as there will probably be plenty of Premiership teams who would make him their no1. same goes for Ruddy. it would be pointless him making comments about Hodgson making an error not picking him for the world cup squad to then back it up by signing to be a reserve to a younger keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont want james milner or marshall or remy.

a GK who either has immense potential or a GK who will challenge sczesny, not just become a Pinto of barcelona, we all know how that turned out for them this season.

i want a striker who will give us more than pace, some genius would be good, and remy is not that great, Dags you need to stop drinking mate.

james milner? what exactly does this guy do? he supplants jesus navas only when navas gets home sick again? I think he's not good enough for everton, but then again what do I know, he gets paid 10x more than me.

Agree0 Disagree0

That doesn't really make sense re Marshall. he was far superior to shez last season and based on that he would only sign for another club to play not sit on the bench. therefore he would be an improvement on what we already have IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

The dust has settled (just about) on the FA cup win, Sagna and Fabianski leaving and just wanted to say I really hope Fab gets a top club, like he deserves, he was a great keeper this season and during the 7 seasons he was a Gunner. Hope someone in the champions league goes for him it's what a keeper of that quality needs.

Thanks Fabainski, you'll be missed.

We have been linked with lots of our ex players recently,
Cole, Cesc, Song, Vela, the horrible dutch blioke, is there anyone else I've forgot?
So in which order would you accept them back bearing in mind, what they would add to the team, how they left, how respectful they have been about us in their absence and of course how easy or difficult you would personally find to accept them as Arsenal players again!
So from most acceptable to least palatable what's your returning order?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

From most likely to least.
Vela
Cesc
Song
Cole
RVP

Vela is only one I can see happening though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Of those I would only take Vela. Maybe Song, but as we all remember he's not really the out-and-out DM we need. Fab is great but questionable whether he's an improvement on Ozil and Ramsey - might upset the balance of the squad with players like Ozil/Ramsey/Wilshere being pushed out wide, which sometimes works but isn't ideal. Cole and RVP on principle. In any case, I don't think we need Cole - Gibbs is a better option and Monreal is a good stand in imo. RVP would do us a lot of good but I don't want to legitimise him leaving by us just letting him come back - it would set a bad precedent for players who might want to betray us in the future. I think we could get a better striker anyway, if we really pull our proverbial 'finger' out.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 06:18:54
hey guys, between aurier and Richards or any other right back who do you want and why? me I want aurier young, versatile, speed, strong, assists and gud in defence. its league l but to get in team of the year is not a coincidence, what l like most is the competition between him and jenko, it will only get the best out of them. guys y are we so soft its healthy to have two gud or more players in every position. Richards has epl experience, but he is too vulnerable to risk for, injuries is wot always cost us everything every year, and the last couple of games I watched him he isn't the player he was. so for me aurier is better if not best. cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 May 2014 13:15:28
I'd love seamus Coleman, he is the complete right back just unbelievably good would slot in nicely at arsenal. Plus it's been too long since there has been an irish man in an Arsenal jersey but alas I think he would probably be too expensive for us :-( or at least too expensive for wenger ha

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2014 01:27:28
I like what I've seen of this Serge Aurier going forward, more skilful and pacey than Bac, but worry for us defensively if we sign him. Dives into challenges an awful lot.
Have to wait and see!
After all - Wenger knows.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If Sagna departs, I would prefer we sign Micah Richards, as he is still relatively young, has played in the Premiership and doesn't affect our foreign quota of players.

Agree0 Disagree0

I want the kid Chambers from Southampton. Looked top quality when I watched him last year!

Agree0 Disagree0

Richards could give Diaby some company! Great idea.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Robbie - Aurier looks good but we'd have to spend time developing him. We need someone to come straight in and do a job.

What about Debuchy? Played in CL, a fair bit France, got PL experience - might be better suited to handling dangerous attackers than someone like Aurier. Him or Richards would be good signings I reckon.

Am I the only one who opposes a potential Cesc return to Arsenal this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No I don't see the point, our midfield is close just needs beefing up, plus as all ready stated he likes to slow it down. I think we need to speed it up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nope me too. We have ample options in Fabregas's position, but we look like ly to be in need of a keeper, a right back, at least one centre back, a defensive midfield player & a top notch striker. In any event I fail to understand the Fabregas love in. He forced a move when he was captain & had 3 years left on his contract. Although a good player, I suggest he is overrated, the play has to go through him & the team adapted to suit him, hence his unpopularity with the fans at Barca.

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as I love Cesc, there are several players I would have before him and right now, we have more important issues, i.e. Striker, Defensive Mid and Pace on the Wings.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't care if he comes back to the Gunners, but I sure don't want to see him playing for the Mancs, simple.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather we spent the 40m € on William Carvalho, Cesc was sublime for us and normally I wouldn't oppose we sign a player of his calibre but we have more important positions to address. As for him signing for the Mancs nothing would surprise me loyalty in modern day football is a rare breed. Cesc already proved he's not of this minority.
