Got to feel a bit sorry for Man Utd supporters. They had boring possession football under LVG. Now they will get boring non possession football with Mourinho.

Only interesting thing will be to see how Mourinho tries to get Man Utd eliminated from the Europa League - a competition he once said was only for losers.

Mour and United is a match made in heaven! Two peas in a pod. Wether he is wanted there or not he will do well there.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 May 2016 12:16:49
I know potential managers talk to other clubs behind sitting managers backs when the clubs approach them about becoming their next manager despite many pretending they haven't but I can't remember any manager actively chasing another man's job were there was no vacancy like mourinho has LVGs.
If mourinho hadn't courted united so vigorously and relentlessly LVG would have seen out his contract IMO, I guess some would say that's his winning mentality but to me it goes against the grain and lowers football standards just a little more.
The funny charming José mourinho who first arrived in England all those years ago isn't the same one who returned from Real via inter and that's a big shame for both him and football IMO.

What about Scott Dann to for Arsenal?
I think he would be a good signing.
Although he did leave wembley on crutches, hopefully not serious!

I would prefer Ashly Williams, a true leader.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 May 2016 08:07:31
Would prefer Robbie Williams.
At least he would entertain us.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 May 2016 09:50:51
Williams is an excellent player and captain Welsh mate but unfortunately he's 32 and like Kos prefers to play left of centre, if he was a couple of years younger and more at home on the right he'd be an excellent signing mate because as you say as captain he leads both by example and with his mouth.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - is he excellent? He was awful this season, and was not a good captain when Swansea needed him to step up. He is average.}

22 May 2016 10:16:54
I must admit I've only really seen him on motd highlights this season Ed but what I've seen I thought he looked very good and also an excellent captain too. Personally I'd put him head and shoulders above Mertesacker as both a player and captain.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - as a player I would, as a captain I wouldn't though.}

22 May 2016 10:30:00
ED
Have to agree with g62 (and that's a first)
I love and respect all Arsenal players, but god knows how you come to that conclusion.
I watch William, and the man will throw his head in where it hurts for club and country.
Mert at times has turned his back a few times, When do you see Mert driving the team on, He couldn't drive sheep.
Like I say he is a good player but for me he has never been a leader.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Merts is an excellent club captain off the pitch, neither are any good on the pitch. Throwing your head in where it hurts does not make you a captain. Lifting players in a bad spell is the main responsibility of a captain, which Williams did nothing to do when Monk was struggling.}

22 May 2016 10:31:54
Really Ed, personally I think Mertesacker is an awful captain who not only doesn't lead by example but takes no personal responsibility, after the Barcelona home game he moaned about the attacking players not taking our chances but not the slightest mentioned of his own mistake for their second goal, to me that's awful for a captain not to man up to his own mistakes before having a go about others.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - off the pitch he is excellent with the youngsters. I do agree I would have neither as captain personally. It is not that I think Merts is a good captain, I just think Williams is worse.}

22 May 2016 11:16:57
out of the current squad who'd be your pick as captain Ed001?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - oh God, erm, has to be Cech surely? I really do not see anyone else even worth considering as a captain. I think it should never go to a forward. Personally I prefer a centre back as captain, but not sure Koscielny is captain material, though a very good player. So it has to be Cech. He knows what it takes to win titles.}

22 May 2016 14:02:00
Yeah I think it has to be Cech too. There's really not another suitable candidate.

Wilshere can't stay fit and he's not exactly a role model.
Kos, like you said, isn't really captain material.
Ramsey is possible but not sure he's the strong leader we need.
Sanchez despite working hard seems to sulk a little when things aren't going his/ our way.
Cazorla I don't really see as a captain, vice captain yes, but not captain.

I suppose we could take a chance and give it Xhaka!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 May 2016 14:56:22
Xhaka could be a future captain as he was captain for his club in Germany.

Eds, can a player be forced to join another club? The rumours going around that we have asked about Mahrez joining Arsenal and that Ranieri has asked for Walcott as part of the deal.

The report goes onto say that Walcott has no interest in moving, which brings me back to my question, can a player be forced to move?

Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No Peter, you cannot force a player to join another club.}

Never heard of him, so can't be up to much 35 million you are having a laugh, we got dele Ali last year for 4 million and he's the best young midfielder in the league.

21 May 2016 19:28:11
Raver, mate you even did not knew about Alexis Sanchez before we signed him, though you knew about some of the world class players that spurs signed during last few years like Soldado, Sambaouli, Paulinio, Capoue etc. that's your footballing knowledge mate.

21 May 2016 19:55:38
Theyre used to europa league standards. That's why he's not heard of Xhaka.

21 May 2016 20:40:18
Good to see you've recovered from your disappointment last week Raver, in less than a week your back to your old self agai just in time to watch Arsenal storm out the transfer blocks.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 May 2016 21:06:45
You can storm out of the transfer blocks all day long gunner, it's going to be the same old story next year top 4 and nothing else.

Our shadow is starting to effect you. You spend some time here chatting to the big boys. Their is know shame in wanting something better, and when that comes to arsenal and you, You can't be blamed for looking up and thinking I want some of that.

Xhaka complete nice and early, makes for an exciting change in approach!

I think its safe to say xhaka is done. Pictures of him in the new kit everywhere. Just a striker and a CB to go.

Can't believe it dags. I've not chimed in because you know how it is with us! Just what we needed and by the sound of it granit wanted the deal he's been flirting for a year or so. It's nice when a player wants it as much as the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2016 15:25:28
Less than a week after last season ended Arsene makes a major signing?
Fantastic start to the summer window and will hopefully make Ozil and Sanchez feel it's worth sticking around for another season atleast.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2016 17:34:09
Just scoped out the pics :)

Well happy with this deal, surprised we got it done so early, brilliant stuff from arsene n co!

Just the player we needed, someone with abit of granit so we don't get bullied.

The fight for a starting spot in the middle of the park is looking very very tasty :)

21 May 2016 13:00:10
With all the supporters of both sides living in London there are no worries about fans having to travel long distances to get home and they can go straight out for beers and kebabs afterwards.

Good idea really. ;-)

I can't be the only person that is slightly annoyed that arteta apparently rejected our offer as a coach to be a coach at Manchester city. Maybe it's more in depth then I know but the amount we've stuck with him and tbh gave him a few too many contracts hurts seems annoying he's rejected that chance.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

21 May 2016 03:07:05
D16- I understand your frustrstion but he had an agreement with us and always played well when fit. At the end of the day its just a job and he is free to go where ever he wantd. It's not like he has been a gooner forever. There are bigger things to be annoyed about.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 May 2016 07:38:11
lol sy4 I do actually struggle to put into words what I really mean and perhaps annoyed was the wrong one. I'm quite aware there's plenty more things to be annoyed about. More surprised to be honest. Seems he was quite wanted as a coach by big teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2016 09:32:35
I guess if he has hopes of becoming a manager he just wants to broaden his knowledge and pick up different ways of doing things.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2016 11:51:28
I think he and Pep are mates and played together so it's understandable. But ask yourself would you want to coach under Wenger. No input on teams or selection. The only one that can get away with it is Henry, never looks lie Bouldy gets any word in anywhere.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 May 2016 14:14:36
Oh come on you're not really blaming Arsene for arteta going to coach at city! Some of these blame Wenger posts are ridiculous.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 May 2016 15:19:14
It's not blame but a reason why you may not want to work under him. Paddy didn't only Henry can handle him.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2016 15:55:28
Good luck to him and I wish him all the best. Experience gets you to the top and he may well feel he has got all he needs from Arsene who better to learn from next than Pep.
