Lincgooner is 100% right it's the fact that Arsene is under absolutely no pressure from the board and there's enough fans to fill the stadium twice over who would be happy to have another 10 years of not challenging as long as he's still our manager.
Complacency and Arrogance are the natural are a natural result for anyone who doesn't need to prove himself to anyone.

21 Sep 2015 23:13:50
Fair point G62, but I guess the board see it as Wenger has been loyal to us, so return the favour.

Plus, he never goes banging on boardroom doors asking for money.

That could be the clincher.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 07:46:21
Wenger has only been loyal to us because he knows he would have been sacked if workig for one of the bigger clubs in Europe

Bayern , Real M , Barca , M City , M Utd and Chelsea would have sacked him years ago.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 08:08:15
Banbury that is utter bow locks borne out of your bitterness toward Wenger.

Beat the guy daily by all means but try and be realistic ffs.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 08:43:00
So you don't agree he would have been sacked elsewhere at a club with ambition then?

I'm not bitter towards him he has done superb for us

IN THE PAST but for several years we have done naff all .................in any other proffession he would have gone by now, as 62 said there is no pressure on him. How has he shown loyalty?? He is as safe as houses.......you are blinkered to that clearly xx

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 09:29:20
you say for years he a done naff all, yet its only been the last 2 years that we have not had to sell our best players and are able to compete.

how many clubs would have loved to be in our situation over that last 10 years finishing in the top 4 on limited funds, losing your best player year on year, Leeds, Portsmouth, bolton, Newcastle, Liverpool, Tottenham, Even Manchester United and had a go at maintaining that and failed and look how much it has cost them... you seem to believe than anyone can finish in the top 4 consistently with ease.

Southampton, Everton, West ham, Swansea are all spending big and not managing it, if we did not have wenger at this club over the last 10 years we could have well found this club battling for a top 10 position, or even worse, blackburn won the prem and where are they now? Newcastle are a massive club and they got relegated, liver pool and tottenham are proof that spending big does not guarantee you even European football.

Now don't get me wrong i am as frustrated as you in the summer dealings and agree that wenger seems to be under no pressure and it is frustrating as hell, but i also believe that as fans we have been been spoilt to europeen football for the last 14 years on a shoe string and seem to believe that we have the right to be there every year, that its easy, well there are 16 other clubs who would beg to differ.

when funds were not a problem arsene transformed this clubs playing style and built the invincibles.
and you are right if arsene had been at another club during the last 10 years and not won he would have been moved on, yet think of this also, if wenger had left when Madrid cam calling, or PSG, or Barcelona how many trophies would he have won if his hands were not tied.. have you ever thought that he gave up the best years of his career to steer us through a new stadium, get rid of the debt, bring through new players so that this club can stay at the top level for years to come?

don't take for granted what he has achieved and also where this club would be if he was not at the helm because we could well be in a much worse situation... having said all that if it is now true that the club is through this period and we can now compete on all levels then the BOARD do need to install some more pressure and urgancy in this club.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 09:39:32
I don't think he would have been sacked at Utd but all the other clubs 100% , Iam behind wenger but Iam slowly coming down Iam at about 80% lol after January let's see if I go up or down

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 10:20:48
Chelsea city barca Bayern have all sacked much more successful mangers than Arsene many of who won the champions league, utd well I'm sure LVG won't get 10 years of 4th to be accepted as a trophy by his board or fans, and as for Real well they don't count because they'd sack themselves plus the fans and even the City if they could

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 12:55:59
Wenger would have been sacked at a big club, his job would only be safe if he won the major trophies. He would not have got away with keeping them financially stable. Plus the reason he didn't go, he's paid too much to take that chance and he would not have the same power he has now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - point of interest....arsenal are a big club steve..

22 Sep 2015 13:29:20
Banbury you are assuming that the circumstances at each of the clubs you mention would be exactly those that existed at Arsenal over the 9 trophy less years.

None of them have had that, none of them asked Wenger to stay and work under those circumstances.

Put Wenger in charge of City this season, he would smash the league, in fact I'd put money on it he would have won it at least the last 3 seasons with that squad.

Put him in charge of Barca, Madrid and Bayern, he would without a shadow of a doubt have won a shed load of trophies, would he have got the sack, did Ancelotti get the sack, did the special one get the sack, of course they did, thus I imagine at some stage Arsene would have but not because he didn't win a trophy for 9 years, maybe just the one.

You look at Arsene as a spent force, I don't. Do I think for example there are better players out there than Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky, of course there are. I ask why they are still here and the better players aren't. Doesn't make a lot of sense, but I'm not in charge for a reason and equally as I've said before I'm not into the whining and moaning that goes on here most of the time.

So fella if you are going to beat on Wenger at least make it sensible.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 13:49:30
Ok ed bigger club eg madrid, bayern etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats better..

22 Sep 2015 13:58:28
Stoner, I don't know a manager in the league make more errors of judgement, that sends out a team, that make more tactical errors or look like they don't do any shape or position training than ours. Every time he comes up against one of the younger more dynamic managers that are coming through now he is embarrased. They all know how to stop his outdated, inaffectual, one dimensional approach.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - bit harsh that steve..

22 Sep 2015 14:30:58
More like simple bollocks ed as the team have shown in games against the big sides we can win and are no longer simple push overs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - but im not allowed to say that stoner.. :)

22 Sep 2015 14:39:25
Ed you know me.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 14:53:31
Stoner win against what big sides. Whos talking bollocks now.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 15:09:30
Steve Wenger has averaged 7 losses each season over the last 8 years, if you take away the usual losses to the Chelsea manager, Manchester United manager both neither a young dynamic manager over the last 8 years
it seams your argument that every young manager coming through embarrasses him and that they ALL know how to stop his outdated ineffectual, one dimensional approach argument has no legs at all.

again how many of these managers that get the better of him so often have finished above him in the league? how many of them have teams competing in the champions league?

hear is another question if he became available how many chairman would be happy to replace their young, dynamic managers with wenger if given the chance? I suspect most of them would (obvs there is no actual ansewer to this question as we don't know their thoughts)

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 15:27:26
Sorry Steve I forgot we failed to beat City, United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern, Dortmund etc.

I must remember we only ever beat the likes of Stoke and Villa and then only occasionally.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 16:21:10
U don't beat those teams when it matters though do u stoner!

The moment a little bit of pressure is put on u, u have failed.

U should of gone out against us in the fa cup last season really too.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 16:29:06
Gunner breal, southampton twice last year, villa at home with the sacked paul lambert, swansea home and away gary monk, monaco at home leonard jardin. West ham at home slavan bilic. All of them not just beaten but very often outplayed by teams with not the resourses our manager has at his disposal. You easily discard our record of two wins in 20 top four games, our record against mourinho (young manager) and our record against man u in the league. don't talk to me about legs.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 16:41:16
Ctr but but we didnt. don't try and take our bit of pleasure away and repect on that day you just weren't good enough mate. Lol

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 16:45:17
Why on earth should we have gone out to you in the cup?

Maybe when it mattered you shouldn't have drawn against Everton and blown the title.

Maybe when Fergie left the pressure shouldn't have resulted in you finishing 7th whilst breaking every negative record on the way.

Maybe with nothing but the league to concentrate on and a small fortune spent you should have finished higher than 4th.

Odd was pressure does to a team.

Maybe if Gabriel hadn't kicked Costa he wouldn't have gotten sent off.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 19:35:31
I mean we were the better team on the day.

The percentage to us failing to winning in pressure games is much more in our favour.

We have won leagues against the odds gone to places and conceded first and come back to win when it really mattered.

U beat everyone when it means nothing and lose when it means everything.

Well except two fa cups against relegation candidates.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats unfair chris, a lot of good sides were beaten on the way to them cups being won, you talk as though united are a better side..take my word for it mate..your not..

21 Sep 2015 20:30:55
Chris,

Darren Fletcher got sent off against Arsenal (can't remember the year, 2009 I think), for a tackle on Cesc Fabregas.

Fergie appealed it.

Most managers, if the red was harsh, appeal the decision.

I'm not saying its right, I disagree with it, what's done is done, but it happens.

I think you are wrong to criticise Arsene/Arsenal for appealing a red, if they feel its a tad harsh.

Love you really though matey.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - it was not harsh though dags, it was a deserved red card for lashing out at an opponent mate, he lost his rag and stupidly compromised arsenals chances of getting anything out of the game..so whats to appeal?..

21 Sep 2015 20:53:55
Why has somehow Gabriel's role in his red been forgotten in all this?

Can u imagine what Tony Adams would of done? I imagine it would of been, win the game then deck him after.

Stupidity! Kos held back and played the game. Gabriel let u down big time.

Everyone knows what Costa is about none more than Gabriel which makes his red even more stupid imo.

Im not claiming this is only relevant to arsenal as I'm sure many other players are guilty of being stupid, but u lot are the only ones that whinge like this every time.

Where does it stop? Shall we go back to when Wilshire head butted fellani? Or mncnair injured Wilshire, they both got off, I'm sure there's a 3 game ban in there somewhere?

I understand ure upset buddy, he got at u and Gabriel bit big time but its football in heat of the moment players do silly things lol!

Move on, take your punishments and look forward to how u can put your season right again after all u won't have to play Costa every week will u and letting this linger is only adding more pressure to a team under a fair bit atm.

It's so early to be getting this wound up after 6 games.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - a lot of sense there chris...which is unusual for a utd fan.. :)

21 Sep 2015 21:06:29
Lol cheeky git ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i cant resist chris.. :)

21 Sep 2015 21:12:35
Haha I've noticed.

Everton going alright at the moment mate, I can't believe Naismith is only 30!! Was he 29 for 3/4 years?

Got a feeling u lads might be the ones to hammer the final nail in the Rodgers coffin in a few weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i hope not chris, i want him to sign a 5yr extension mate!, hes the best thing that has happened to this city since the beatles.. :)

21 Sep 2015 21:20:32
I make u right mate.
I'll be gutted when he is finally replaced, at least we will have the legacy of Mignolet in goal to remember him by though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i want him to waste a lot more dosh before he departs chris, like he did on lazy markovic and emre cant.. >)

21 Sep 2015 21:25:20
Ed/Chris,

Like I said in post, I'm not saying I agree with it, but what is the point in having the right of appeal if you don't actually use it?

I know its not quite the same, but tennis players have the right to appeal decisions (3 times I think) and there are similar rules in cricket.( not quite the same I know), but if its there, use it.

Example.
Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) was sent off for his reaction to the challenge on him by Ashley Barnes (Burnley).
On appeal, he had his 3 game ban reduced to 2 games.

Example.
Cesc Fabregas was sent off for kicking the ball into a crowd of West Brom players, hitting Chris Brunt in the face.
On appeal, his 3 game ban was reduced to one game.

Remember, Arsene is not appealing the red card, he is not asking for a rescindment, merely a possible reduction of a 3 game ban to possible 2 games, based on the fact Gabriel's reaction was minimal (but still unacceptable).

Roberto Martinez even admitted he was thinking of appealing Kevin Mirallas's red, due to the fact it was one of his first touches of the game and he wasn't even looking at the player when the incident happened, citing that it was just unfortunate and no malice was intended.

He decided, rightly, not to appeal.

But, like I said, the right of appeal is an entitlement afforded to all clubs, why not use it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the appeal system is there to right any injustices that may have been done dags, and like the mirallas there is no point they are guilty as charged, if im not mistaken the ban can be extended if the appeal is deemed invalid, and it serves a club right if they appeal anything as blatant as what gabriel done..

21 Sep 2015 21:32:04
Chris,

Rumour has it, when LVG retires, Rodgers is being lined up as his replacement.

Think I read it in Metro today lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i wonder if he can manage 2 clubs at once?...that would be great..

21 Sep 2015 21:43:09
Jesus Ed,

I would hate to go to court for nicking a packet of crisps and have you as my judge mate.

Life imprisonment?

Love you really mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if someone is guilty dags...then they are guilty mate, if anyone can make a defence for gabriel then i would love to hear it...and i must be right as i watch judge judy every day.. :)

21 Sep 2015 21:45:39
It's the message it sends out dags.

How is Gabriel going to learn from this if he's being told "don't worry mate, it's not your fault u got involved in something that didn't need to be in but it's all Costa's fault he is to blame not u".

It shouldn't be appealed and Wenger is long enough in the tooth to surely see that it's best to try and dust this off as quick as possible and move on.

By letting this to continue might end up costing u more than 3 points, I bet mourinho is laughing his rocks off, your under pressure and your eyes are off the ball going into a real tough game away games to spurs and Leicester.

U know they are now only 3 points off u in the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 21:56:16
Going by Evertons season last year he was :)

Dags I can see it now, Wenger leaves in the summer and Rodgers goes in.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 22:09:33
If u went to court and there was cctv footage of u putting the crisps in your pocket and walking out u could still plead not guilty, u would just be a fool too lol.

Mmmm....crisps.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i love crisps...golden wonder cheese and onion are the best...anyone who disagrees should dfend gabriel.. :)

21 Sep 2015 22:14:42
Chris,

I would rather have Ted Rodgers.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 22:15:32
Lol Ed 😁

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 22:22:36
Maybe just maybe Wenger is laughing his socks off, Maureen the smug one thinking he'd got Costa out the way and Scot free.

Wenger kicks up a stink and now Chelsea losing Costa for 3 games will maybe cost Maureen more than 3 points.

Gabriel's ban will stand and we'll get some affordable fine and the Chavs come out as the losers with that oxygen stealing bowel nugget sitting in the stands watching Falcao fall over his feet.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 22:35:04
Maybe stoner, still doesn't alter from the point being made though does it?

I think mourinho is already planning for either outcome, it's his nature.

Way I see it is moureen dangled the bait out there in the Costa motm statement and as always with Wenger and moureen, Wenger has took the bait.

Unless like u say it's all part of wengers master plan :) guess we will have to wait and see who this effects more going forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 22:40:53
Ed I was always a brannigans roast beef and mustard man myself

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - cheese and onion should be the only ones sold chris...and dont get me started on square crisps mate.. :)

22 Sep 2015 06:51:07
No Chris it doesn't but everyone looks at Maureen as the smart one and Wenger the clown when in reality Wenger is not stupid and will also do things for a reason.

He gets accused of everything and in some cases that's fair.

There is no arguing the ban but if it riles Maureen, and Costa will be a big loss, then all well and good for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 11:50:14
Ed what did Gab actually do, out of interest? I'm not acting a fool it's just the actual offence seemed to be off camera in every bit of footage I've seen so I can't tell whether he stamped on Costa's foot or kicked his heel back like that horse did to dappy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he kicked back like the dappy horse TPG, it was premeditated and foolish as the ref was about 12 inches away mate..

21 Sep 2015 18:20:05
Hello all!
Before I start let's not get too carried away. None of the big 4 have had a great start apart from City and they lost twice last week like us. Anyway...

Could I just have a brief fantasy premier interlude and illicit your help in beating my friends and family. This is Arsenal related because I am thinking about taking out the Arsenal players in my team. Blasphemy I know.

Last year I based my team around 4 players Hazard, Sanchez, Aguero, Costa, with kane a late addition. And it worked, I destroyed everyone with utter glee on my face (high five last year me).

So what does everyone think those 4 players are this year, and what squad players would be best to surround them (14 or 15 in wengers case)?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

21 Sep 2015 23:03:35
Whoever you pick, I would definitely put West Ham's Payet in.

Player of the season so far, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - him and mehraz of leicester..

21 Sep 2015 23:37:28
Definitely Ed,

5 goals and 3 assists in 6 games.

£400,000 bargain.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 18:12:19
Noodles,

Decent post earlier, and I admire your optimism.

I don't think anybody on here can call me pessimistic but, although my support in Wenger will never waiver, my trust in Wenger is on a downward spiral.

I have been a poster on this site for about 2 years, and I have always said we are about 2 players short of being genuine title contenders.

Two years down the line, i'm still saying the same thing.

I can't stand Mourinho, but admire his attributes as a manager, but not him as a human being.

Why do I admire him?
Because he has a selfish, tunnel visioned approach to what he needs to do to his squad, to change them from challengers to champions.

He took over Chelsea and realised his squad needed a revamp.

He sold Drogba, Lampard, Torres, Mata, Schurrle, Lukaku and De Bruyne, among others, and turned them into champions.

Would Wenger do the same?
It's a rhetorical question because the likes of Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky are still here, yet they are either not good enough or fit enough to warrant keeping a squad number.

If we are ever to be called Champions, Wenger needs to get ruthless, ala Mourinho.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

21 Sep 2015 17:38:03
Nice to see Costa & Gabriel being charged along with both Arsenal & Chelsea. The cleaner the game the better the football.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Sep 2015 18:04:48
It's embarrassing that arsenal are appealing Gabriel's red card though imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 18:27:33
Why are we appealing against gab red, ludicrous really.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 18:57:43
How does work , surely Gabs has been punished?

I don't see how we can appeal Gabs red card?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i cant either banbury..

21 Sep 2015 19:28:48
so chelseas next three opponents benefit from no costa, while arsenal at nil /nil go a player down and lose the game.
surely it would be a lot fairer and annoy chelsea more to replay the game...... will never happen but....

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 19:32:07
Chris,

If Roy Keane stabbed, shot, decapitated, burgled, punched, kicked, spat, kidnapped, robbed and gave an opponent a wedgie, Red nose would appeal the decision.

Get real fella :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 19:51:18
No he wouldn't.

Imo, how on earth can u expect any of your players to take responsibility on the pitch if off it Wenger relieves them of any by appealing this decision?

Regardless of how the red came about Gabriel was stupid and could of cost u the game with his stupidity, by appealing this Wenger is sending out the wrong message.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you chris..

21 Sep 2015 20:20:33
Gabs got red and a ban Arsenal lost 3pts so I think that's us done, now let's see what happens to the instigating player and Club?
My guess 3 match ban and a silly fine that Chelsea will pay out of the petty cash.
5 matches and 3pts docked and I don't think Coasta would be mourinho mom or fans hero all of a sudden and we'd see a lot less of this sort of thing from club and player in the future.
By naming him as his mom mourinho has made mugs of the match officials and the premier leagues authority rules the question is he right to do so or will they have the last and laugh at his expense?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 20:33:39
Bloody hell g62, the over reaction by some is unbelievable!

He's a twit I'll give u that but all these over the top reactions are laughable, ban and 3 points reduction, game to be replayed etc!
U realize only one player grabbed someone by the throat and kicked out in this game ain't u and it wasn't Costa, if all it takes is a little slap and scratch u get your players rilled up no wonder u haven't come close to winning a prem in years mate.

U can blame Costa for your loss if u want, I'm sure Theo, giroud and Wenger are glad for a break this week.

He will get a ban I'm sure.

U lot love a scapegoat don't u lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 23:48:25
100% agree with CTR. Some of these reactions are way over the top. If you want a replay I'd agree to it, but only if we start the game with the pen that we deserved and you starting the game with 10 men. With none of Costa, Kos, Gabriel and Cazorla being allowed to play. Deal?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2015 12:22:39
We can not argue with gabriel being sent off, he should never have reacted, i do think the straight red was harsh as is was hardly dangerous play, it was however 100% a second yellow and he was stupid stupid stupid.

Costa should and has been Pulled up on his actions and rightly so as there is no place in the game for that sort of action, play hard yes but i hope we would all agree that was over the line.

the red card had nothing to do with the poor defending for the first goal and the 2nd was a huge deflection.

Someone mentioned the mourinho MOM comment and for me this was awful and he should also be punished, sending out the message that this is the way the game should be played and condoning that behaviour on national TV is a disgrace, i am all for backing your players but to condone that should be punishable .. now i am not saying strip him of all his titles, then the club doctors throw rotten fruit at him and let him coach Sunday league for the rest of his career.. but i do believe that a fine or even a touchline ban ( bit harsh i know). ITs NOT the message he should be sending to the younger generation.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - More embarrassing whining.}

22 Sep 2015 15:19:41
no whining at all ed002 .. i actually said that the decision to send Gab off was correct and also that it had no effect on either goal that we conceded i also believe that even if it was 11 v 11 we would have lost the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I deleted the rest of the post because it is absolute trash, nobody has said anything of the sort.}

21 Sep 2015 16:17:54
This follows the current theme of frustration but I am on the side that we were never really going to be serious title contenders due to our lack of progression over the summer.
Banbury makes a great post earlier where we have a fantastic group of 14-15 players that are rarely all available at the same time. AW talks of only adding players that will improve us but I think that means improving that group of 14-15, maybe even the starting 11. Not the squad and that is where we fall short. Coquelin, as well as he has done will not carry us to glory and certainly not by himself. United stepped in and bought Sneiderlein to improve their squad, not an automatic first choice. Too much on a squad player? Maybe but I think we will regret not getting him. Cabaye for 13mill would have upgraded our midfield at the expense of Arteta, Flamini and/or Rosicky. Song even upgrades the squad. We can't be just adding a 30-45mill superstar every season or two. It needs to be all round improvement. We somewhat sorted the defense with Debuchy and Gabriel and obviously Cech was massive for us.
As for strikers and AW saying the quality is not available. Martinez goes to Athletico, Mandzukic to Juve, Lacazette stays out while we procrastinate on the dream Benzema signing. Were we ever even seriously in for a top striker? They were available if we were willing even if Benzema was out of reach. Morata a year ago for the price of Welbeck. He is now showing his class.
To move forward the last 2 seasons as we have we should be talking about ourselves as contenders. No question. However we are not contenders and it is due to mismanagement. At the end of this season there is a real risk our top players start to look elsewhere due to the lack of ambition being shown by those in charge of the club.
A final point. As a club supposedly strong in scouting young French talent how did we end up with Sanogo and not Martial 2 years ago?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - good post that sin..

21 Sep 2015 17:09:23
Sin apparently wenger has final say on whether he thinks said player we are interested in is worth it or not. Well if that his true then we are always going to fall short and miss out on the right players for the right positions at the right time. The whole club ethos is not that of a club that will challenge for the top titltes. Am i happy with that, no, is other people happy , then i'm sorry their views to me are wrong. You have to try and be the best you can within your compass of how much potential you have at your disposal. Plus if your judgement is continually wrong, then you need replacing.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2015 17:09:55
Excellent post that, its the reality of the situation no mater how some may try to cover Arsenes tracks and pretty appalling waste of the opportunities we've had the last two seasons alone.
January 2014 with us top of the table and Giroud totally exhausted and we need a striker to see us through the run in we get Kim Kallstrom injured and all.
Summer 2014 we had to address the our most obvious and longest standing problem of no DM that had to be top priority and with Vermaelan leaving and Kos injured a CB too but no Arsene had spent enough for one summer or actually two as it turned out.
Benzema was always a red herring as is Carvalho who was conveniently injured so able to become Arsene's main target. Arsene is hurt that people might think he was less than honest over Welbecks injury, why?

Excellent post that Sin. The only thing missing is that Wenger is under no pressure from the Board so can't really see things improving any time soon.

Good post Sin :)

Lincs, soooo true with the board putting NO pressure on AW things will stay stagnant .

Be great to have a job like that eh?

Great job indeed. Poor governance. We have a major shareholder owner who is not a genuine fan but sees qualification to the champions league like collecting money for passing Go on a Monopoly board with Gazides having been hand picked by Wenger himself. I'd love a job where I could pick my own boss..

Ive been away and have missed the last two games and can't really comment on them, but comming on here it feels like people think we are useless and have no hope.

Everytime we lose we get written off, but the reality is we are going to lose matches and we can't be expected to win every match. Both defeats have had sending offs, and it did affect the results. didn't see the Giroud sending off but Mike Dean was awful in that game and it cost us the match. The score was still 0-0 when it happend and we shouldve gone one man up at half time. Maybe i'm still in holiday mode but i'm writing the game off as a one off and saying it was the ref fault.

There talk about progression on here, this time last season we had a keeper who was about to go AWOL, one CB who was really out of form. A 19 yr old a right back who had no experience, Monreal at CB. Relying on Arteta and Flamini. Our team was broken last year and we are in way better shape this time round. Man city has had a incredible start to the season yet the gap is only 5 points. I don't think we will win the leauge, but its not all doom and gloom. We are in the most competive leauge in the world and we can't be expected to win every single game. The teams around us are not running away with it.

Decent post Noodles but the problems we had last season with 1 CB and no DM were as with this season with no one to finish off the chances ww create self inflicted due negligence on Arsene's behalf.
Last season if we'd brought cover in for the already injured Kos during the window and bought a real DM who knows where we might have finished and now we have as you rightly say the brilliant Cech Le Coq and Gabriel we lack a proven top notch finisher, the reason for the doom and gloom isn't the last too results its yet again the realisation of every pundit and many fans fears for us before the season kicked off.
Arsene just won't do what so obviously needs to be done each and every season and that youve got to admit is pretty gloomy to have to accept.

With only 6 games gone , i don't think we will win the league is not what we should be saying. But the reasons behind why we are saying it are because yet again we are failing to address issues that are there, like not buing two or three players in positions that are and were so obvious and we have money, so no excuse there. Our defensive frailties are back again, we get the same old noises coming out of wengers mouth, blaming every thing, man dog and woman, except himself. We can all see where this season is heading, some of us may be over pessimistic and some of us may be over optimistic, but we all know where it is heading.

I doubt we will win the league because we needed the striker - but who knows - too early to call for me, people are very critical on here but to be honest I think it's a cultural thing. At the moment we aren't playing well which is the most disheartening thing. People love to slate Wenger but I've yet to hear a replacement I'd want.

Mourinho? Rather come 4th and put pins in my eyes.
Van Gaal - I think he is average
Rogers - laughable
Pellegrini? Mancini? Klopp? Guardiola or Simone for me are the only two with klopp a near off third. It's hit or miss though

23rd Steve at Sunderland and the Queen will present the trophy to Arsene and the royal corgis will pull the team bus on a country wide tour while the new £50 notes will carry Arsenes picture to mark the occasion.
What's to doubt :-)

Banbury i know what you are on about, my point is we were asked a question about our chances compared to other teams today and we can't today for instance, with out arrogance say we are better than say west ham. We all expect to finishvabove them but that's not what was asked by ubi. We are above chelski at the mo but we are not better than them, so it is all hypothetical really. I've always said i go by what I see not by what my heart tells me. I don't see us being that good at the moment.

A good manger reacts to a problem immediately a great manager preempts the problem before it materialises and a delusional manager refuses to accept there is a problem with his squad for as long as he possibly can get away with it.
Which has Arsene repeatedly shown himself to be the last 5 to 7 years?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - im not having that crybaby, i will have genuine hard men such as duncan ferguson or shearer, but you surely cant want dick heads like costa mate..

21 Sep 2015 09:56:40
As much as I want to be competitive with the big clubs again ( and I want that a lot) I'd rather be relegated than have Costa in an Arsenal shirt.
Their are certain clubs that suit certain players and while Costa and Chelsea go well together Costa and Arsenal would be highly like to cause the universe to implode within its self through disgust.

21 Sep 2015 11:36:12
Ed025, Genuine hard men like Chuck Norris are difficult to find! I was thinking about tough players from past eras and a few would have dealt with Costa without the handbags!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think martin keown might of handled it differently as well 14, kos was far too nice and gabriel far too blatant, players like costa need to be taught a lesson imo..graeme souness style..

We should be tough but fair
Play with flair but with some backbone

I am proud of our heritage, style of play and doing things the right way. That doesnot mean we just roll over and play dead nor does it mean we cheat.

The invincibles showed that it can be won the right way - let's crack on and get our season back on track as we have some big games ahead

I think all the great sides have been very capable of looking after themselves but there's never been a great side in all of history that used a bus and a hit and run to the ref driver.
Mourinho sides and players win trophies but will never get close to Barcelona the invincibles Liverpool of the 70/80s sides that won respect and admiration to go with the medals.

Ed025, funny you mention Souness as he was the first to come to mind. He would have sorted it out on the pitch then in dressing room afterwards! I saw the Garth Crooks clip of him talking about the incident and thought he was spot on , and I also think that refs will need to show more discernment in incidents like this.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - your right 14 they do, we need to stamp down on these neanderthals as they have no place in todays game mate..

21 Sep 2015 07:02:19
Shouldn't Costa get a long Ban? How is it different from Suarez n Ivanovic incident. Also did the referee, even if he didn't see h slapping Kosielny, did he honestly not see him chest bumping Kosielny n grabbing Gabriel's neck?
