i have been watching La liga recently and with madrid having a terrible run of games and probably out of the title race, a slip in the champions league and zidane is likely to be ousted.

i do hope we have him as a successor, i'm not sure wenger will stay beyond this year, and i feel he should move to madrid or psg, we need a fresh start and he could do with not having to penny pinch every buy or sale.

Zidane? No thanks. No disrespect he's a footballing genius and legend of course but that wouldn't be a step in the right direction for me.

Pleased that we won last night and a good draw for the next round. In respect of Sanago belittling the League Cup, one of the most successful managers of the modern era, Mourinho, I believe has won it 4 times and he clearly takes every competition his teams enter seriously, with a desire to win them all. Indeed, clearly before Sanogo's time, the hugely successful George Graham era at Arsenal, started off in 1986 with, guess what, winning the League Cup 2-0 against Liverpool. This was the catalyst for his success at the club.
Unfortunately I was unable to go to the match last night and haven't had an opportunity to watch the match yet, but Phil Neville brought up a very interesting word on Sky Sports last night when asked about Luke Shaw. The word was 'intensity', which he commented that Shaw lacked. This intrigued me, setting aside the team selected, positions, tactics, etc, this probably something often lacking in recent Wenger teams. In the pre-Emirates era we had players such as Keown, Adams, Vieira, etc, who always played with self-motivated intensity. Whereas nowadays the team often lack intensity. Yes, they can turn it on and last weekend's match was an example, as was the FA Cup Final. However, and I say this without having seen last night's match, the scoreline was disappointing, while the other PL top teams were putting 3 or 4 past lower league opponents, we only managed a solitary goal and in a match where squad players were given an ideal opportunity to show why they should be first choices. From reports Wilshere was one of the few players that showed intensity. Was this the case that many players didn't give their all and could this be the missing ingredient. You only have to look at the passion shown on the touchline by top managers, that seems lacking at our club.

You talk so much nonsense it's untrue.

When ever you don't play your best 11 you are sending out a message that this game isn't either important or as difficult as other games so people switch off to some degree.
Personally i think this has hurt us in the past in league cups champions league games and FA cup games, we call it rotation while other clubs like Chelsea under Mourinho and Conte seem to keep that intensity and winning mentality in all competitions, and it seems to work for them.
Seriously where has rotation got us in the past? Maybe we should give respecting all competitions a go and see what happens to the teams mentality, I'm not saying it will make the difference between being competitive in the league or not but rotation certainly hasn't bred a competitive winning mentality that's become part and parcel of everyday life at Arsenal.
Success breeds success and it seems for us once we go out of one competion our season has a domino effect.
Play the best 11 players in every game, surely it's worth a try?

I'm not really debating how important or unimportant the league cup is more the point that someone is bragging about charity sheilds and having a bigger crowd than spurs in a bloody league cup game. That's what you call been thankful for small mercies . Get a grip RG.

Alas, Sanago you are clearly unable to comprehend my comments. I wasn't bragging about having higher gates for League Cup games than the Toot, I simply asked raver why Toot fans are not going to these matches, as their attendances for such matches are far lower than ours. In respect of the Charity Shield I simply commented that we have won it 3 times over the last 4 seasons and like it or not it's a day out at Wembley and we had to win the F A Cup and defeat the reigning champions to lift it. If you go further along your line, the League Cup and Europa League are second rate and not worth winning, so it's the PL, CL and possibly the F A Cuo are the only trophies worth celebrating.

Rg61, the reason why mourinho has won it 4 times is because he is the only top manager that takes it seriously, Sir Alex and wenger never did, do you think he would of won it that many times if they did?

Gunnerbod, getting to the final, playing your strongest team and losing, is taking it seriously. I agree in earlier rounds we played youngsters but we bombed in the final especially against Birmingham with a full first team.

Eds what's the crack with this Sampson sacking. Something's rotten in Norway.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what you mean mate? If you mean Mark Sampson with England Women, he was appointed with the FA knowing there were problems with his mouth. Only himself to blame, but he should never have been given the job.}

21 Sep 2017 06:51:30
I was not aware of what the actual problems were with Samson in the past, but isn't it often the case that some of the best managers such as Clough and Mourinho were/ are hardly saints and both were touted to manage the England team. The FA often chose to employ weak yes men, such as Hodgson and now Southgate, who we wouldn't want to manage our team and haven't been huge successes, apart from the early Hodgson era. The one time the FA pushed the boat out and employed a more risky choice as manager in Allardyce, they allowed/ encouraged him to depart, when they could have backed him up and kept him at the helm. I was actually looking forward to seeing how he would get on in the role, whereas the moment Southgate was installed as manager I lost all interest, as we don't stand a chance with him in charge at the major tournaments. It will be the usual easy qualification from a weak group, leading to over-expectations at a major tournament and failing to get through the group stage or getting knocked out in the first match after the group stage.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - so you think that it is ok to appoint someone that is a bigot to the job? Why not go the whole hog and appoint Alf Garnett, as that is who Sampson clearly models himself on.... Mind the FA did appoint Stuart Pearce, a man who had been found guilty and punished for racially abusing other players in the past, but who still had the barefaced cheek to pontificate about Luis Suarez during his spat with Evra! No shame at the FA.}

21 Sep 2017 07:42:47
Point taken Ed, but I would far prefer an imperfect manager such as Mourinho or Allardyce, than squeaky clean Southgate or Hodgson. Clough was a complete head case, but he won the League and other trophies with Nottingham Forest and Derby, as well as two European Cups and was never given the England job.
The same goes for players, look at Suarez who has bitten opponents, would I have wanted him at Arsenal, yes please.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there is a difference between being imperfect and being a racist bully who has caused major problems with other nations with his comments. The guy is an embarrassment and should not be representing a nation.}

21 Sep 2017 07:47:49
That's what I was getting at ed. the Fa is a complete mess and watching that interview on sky with their official who was tasked to do the fall out interview you could tell that the Fa have dropped a clanger and the whole reason behind the sudden sacking based on historical problems that has been looked into preveiously by the Fa seems so bizarre. There's going to be a rubbish storm from this one. I personally think they escaped without too much ridicule after the big Sam debacle.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they acted quickly in the Allardyce case to head off other embarrassing stuff coming out. This time around it just felt like they thought no one cared as it is only women's football and just kept sweeping it all under the carpet, even paying hush money, until the media storm made them realise it was not going away.}

21 Sep 2017 08:39:29
You just wonder how they get themselves into this sort of mess. They seem very worried and this is not defending Sampson in anyway but I'm sure unless they have some evidence on any wrong doing in his employment in this roll then surely they can sack him for offence in a previous roll that they have already looked into. Got tribunal wrote all over it.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2017 08:56:42
Can't sack him.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they can if his actions were of a kind that breaks contract clauses. I have no doubt he would have a clause that would cover this, as he is a national manager, they would not want anything that could cause public embarrassment.}

21 Sep 2017 10:01:35
Ok I see. It's a shame really as it would be horrible for anything to deny the hardwork that's been put into the women's game of late.

Surely the success of the lionesses compared to the men's team has influenced the fa decision delaying.
If they had the same record as the men's team he would have been sacked at the outset imo.
If something is wrong it's wrong regardless of whether that person is brilliant or rubbish at their jog.
Society makes and accepts excuses for and from successful people in all walks of life and maybe if the same rules applied to everyone regardless of wealth or position life would be both much simpler and much better for everyone.
Was big Sam so different to Sven? The only difference I see was Sven had that win in Germany behind him along with last 8 reputation so excuses were made.
