I have no problem with uafa deciding that only champions of their countries should be top seeded in the champions league next season, the clue is in the name and I think that should count for something.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

23 Apr 2015 06:56:21
I am not sure this will have too much effect as the Champions of weaker countries will presumably be seeded.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No. Everything else is on the rankings. That will put Arsenal in Pot 2.}

23 Apr 2015 08:31:47
It used to be called the European Cup. Only the best teams in Europe should be in it to give a fairer reflection of the quality around.Unfortunately winning the czech or Polish or Scottish championship etc. does not put them amongst the best teams in Europe. Not only including these teams amongst the elite but seeding them first weakens the competition and makes a mockery of what will now be a pointless seeding system. The teams seeded 2nd , 3rd and 4th will be better than the first seeds. Nonsensical tinkering. The previous system rewarded consistency and worked well and of course suited Arsenal, but then it would because we are consistently amongst the elite through our performances. Allowing tems from the same country to meet in the last 16 would have been a more productive rule change IMO.

Real Madrid. Atletico. Arsenal many in pot2. Aslong as we get Celtic in pot1 I'm happy :) lol.

It looks a good idea on paper time will tell if it makes it better long term I guess

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2015 19:36:00
Davros surely in that case Real Barca Bayern should be super seeded and not be classed along the same lines as last 16 usual suspects like us,
Its a European competition and called the champions league so that should be celebrated and respected IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 18:58:45
I keep reading all the posts about Loris/Cech etc.

I think I must be missing something - with the advent of FFP if we need to strengthen our squad it has to be prioritised- as IMO we need to get the odd 30 - 50 million euro players.

I don't believe that buying the best keeper in the world is going to add as many points to our season as the worlds 3rd or 4th best striker or one of the top ten defensive midfielders.

Last year until he had a meltdown Shezzer looked pretty near as good as it gets, Ospinas stats are staggeringly good and Martinez is also highly rated.

Need to concentrate on getting one or two absolute crackers in the window but not goalies.

To be fair Excilled Brian Clough always said Shilton was worth 14 points a season plus how many has De Gea earned utd this season, you'd be hard pushed to find a striker who is worth 14 points more than Giroud over a season.
Szczesney has proved himself to be a liability time and time again and Ospina has done well but he's not close to being one of the best in the business.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 20:39:14
Good point, since he has come in ospina has been class from the get go. He deserves to be number one and from what I have seen one of the best in the prem, I think he is underrated by many gooners be interested to hear others views on him

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Apr 2015 21:54:55
I disagree mate. As I United fan I can honestly say without De Gea we would be languishing in 6-7th place at the minute.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 22:23:14
where would utd be without de gea? i think they would be out of the CL running before everything clicked in the spurs game. a great goalie can inspire the whole defence and give them more confidence. hard to tell because you never know how a different player would step up, they may make the same saves, but equally they may drop a few howlers. i'm not sure if they swapped bale for de gea they would have more points.
ospina has done really well i read the other day he has the best win % of anyone to play more than 10 games in the PL

I was one talking about lloris this morning but know full well that neither he nor Cech will ever be Arsenal players.

Szczesny has been a huge disappointment for me as I had high hopes for him and to a degree still do, he was still somewhat shakey in the semi final though.

So just ensure if he'll turn a corner though especially when you see how calm Ospina is and does everything so much better.

I like the look of Martinez and he too could overtake Szczesny but like you am more than happy with Ospina in goal and agree the money would be better spent else where.

Derby just likes to add daily to the mystical 300. ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2015 00:01:30
Not signing loris for what 8mill was criminal. But its gone now and I doubt we will see him at arsenal. Cech I do think is possible. He'll cost a decent amount but I think it will be like when van den Saar finally joined manu. Long overdue and a gap finally filled. Cech please thanks

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Apr 2015 07:00:19
A top keeper is essential. The trophy winning years under Wenger had two great keepers in Seaman and Lehmann. Szczesny is an extremely immature keeper and it is time to move him on. Ospina is an oddity, he is small for a top keeper, but his peformances and statistics for Arsenal have been extremely high. I would love to see us sign Cech and have Ospina as back up. I also rate Lloris very highly, but signing him would be virtually impossible, unless he has a clause in his contract, but I doubt very much that Levy would allow him to move to Arsenal after the Sol Campbell and Pat Jennings transfers.

23 Apr 2015 07:32:15
I don't think chelsea would stand in Cechs way if he wanted to join us, he's given them great service and I think they will recognize that by letting go where he choses as long as the price is met.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2015 09:00:12
Seaman was a rock. Lehman did a job but I don't think he was near seamans class

OK I'll admit it a love seaman

23 Apr 2015 09:08:28
OK , OK, I get the message - you all want a new goalkeeper then!!
Never let it be said that I am undemocratic.

BTW the reason that Man U has needed De Gea so desparately is that they have had a totally pants defence most of the year.

I would still rather get Ronaldo this summer than Neuer (although both would be rather nice)

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2015 10:20:20
a world class defense over a world class GK.

our defense has improved but schezzer is not helping himself.

ospina makes those rare moments he is called upon worth his while hence he has jumped the line.

Man utd are a player away from fixing their defense.

i rate smalling, i rate jones but he needs to sort out his love for sliding in for every shimmy.

rojo is a fantastic player with power and pace, shaw needs time has potential, and they will get a rb this season along with a hummels by the looks of it.

if they sell de gea and replace him with a krul, they do not become a 6-7th place team, they become contenders.

but if they buy attackers and leave the defense and GK as it is, they maybe top 4 but they won't be contenders.

we need a better GK as the one we have is pants, and Ospina needs a challenge.

There is an internal server error that occurs, when replying to runours, just thought I'd let you know

{Ed033's Note - hopefully that still doesn't happen for you

Diaby play as you pay deal? If I'm arsenal I let him go. If I'm diaby I turn it down and go play at an easier level. Celtic even. Rangers. The prem is unforgiving injury wise.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

22 Apr 2015 18:28:31
And you think the Scottish league is more forgiving?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 20:13:52
Yes mate the quality is terrible.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Can I ask how many Scottish games have you watched this season or is it just general football snobbery you suffer from?}

22 Apr 2015 22:28:31
a few less games in scotland, i'm sure that's the main reason diabys injured, he's been overplayed :)

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2015 00:04:09
So eds the scottish league is amazing? Is it same level at the championship? Did Celtic get into the champs league? As my neighbours and arsenal and Celtic fans we watch a fair bit together. Next time I watch one you are happy to pop over.

Chris commons has been like messi in that league. Nuff said.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it must be remembered Ed007 is Scottish so has no idea what quality football is.....
To be fair though, this season the English leagues have been woefully short of any kind of quality football at all.}

23 Apr 2015 07:05:50
I have many scottish mates who say the leagues dead. They need rangers back challenging asap

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2015 22:28:14
Derby your point wasn't about quality, but about injuries. If you watch Scottish football it's very unforgiving. It makes up for the lack of technical ability with aggression to a degree. So I'd suggest diaby would have more luck playing for Stoke.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - There's no point arguing, DG's 'Scottish mates' told him! I don't know what Scottish league they're watching but it's not the same one as me, maybe they're watching the lower leagues that Rangers (sic) play in.
DG, my German mates sit and hope the get Arsenal in the CL because it's a couple of easy games, 2 friends support Real Madrid and say Arsenal shouldn't be in the CL because they've never won it and can't win a domestic title in over a decade, they said Arsenal don't deserve to mix with past winners and that Liverpool deserve to get Arsenal's place as they have had past success and would bring more glamour to the tournament than Arsenal, they say only past winners should compete to freshen it up - bloody mates eh? The cheek of them!}

22 Apr 2015 16:52:18
Who will wenger play in the wing against chelsea . ramsey or welbeck? . I think welbeck should play because he got the pace to get past defenders.

Same team as played Liverpool and Burnley except. Gabriel in for Mertesacker, the thought of Hazard getting a run against the big German is scary not only for the fans but for the rest of the team too.
Le Coq Kos Belerin and Monreal are all constantly keeping half an eye on mertesacker in big games because of his lack of pace and speed of thought once the ball is past him, his natural instinct is to spectate rather than recover position in these situation which is something we can't afford anyone to do.

Hi guys. Great site eds! Just writing really to enquire as to whether anyone on this page will expect to have access to FA cup final tickets. I understand the allocations have not yet been released, but does anybody know how Arsenal are expected to prioritise their allocation? I will have no chance myself as living in Devon makes going to most games too costly. However if there was anyway of getting a couple tickets to Wembley for me and my old man we would jump at the opportunity. Any information/help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Going for 1-0 against Chelsea this weekend btw. Coyg.

22 Apr 2015 20:39:12
Hi hung

I've heard rumours the allocation will be in the region of 22,000 seats. Last year the first cut was gold members with 7 or more away points. This year may be slightly higher

I'm gold with 15 so I think I will be ok but am not sure lol

i would test spuds for loris. id love to take him. major dent for them and would be massive for us

22 Apr 2015 08:36:52
Jeez Derby I was actually thinking the same thing this morning, that is not good! Lol. How much do you think Daniel Levy will sell him to us for?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 08:57:49
Derby,

Are you trying to set up your own break away Premier League?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 09:27:42
Yea seems perfect but i think he is utd bound, as they are going to loose De Gea to RM.

I think we need an upgrade on GK and the LB. Gibbs was plain awful/poor in the semi final.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 09:31:49
dags you have killed me there bro.

red dog i reckon it would cost us too much. manu possible 20mill. for us though rival tax 25mill? what you think. how long is left on his contract?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 10:14:21
Way to much I think Derby, contract until 2019 and Levy will get a fortune out of United for him if De Gea does go to Madrid.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 10:40:34
oh ye we won't pay that. just get me cech i'm happy

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 11:41:14
Hugo won't go for anything short of a world record fee.

if Utd sell de gea for 30-40 mill then i can only assume any approach for lloris will result in a similar fee.

Ed002 stated that utd were looking at Krul or handanovic if de gea was to leave. he would have mentioned if lloris was looking to move.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I explained last night that Lloris has been given a little nudge to think about Champions League after an illegal approach by a club (not MU).}

22 Apr 2015 12:16:20
Hi ed. I've used the search engine and had a look around (even on the spurs page) and can't find what you said last night about lloris. Maybe I'm being a half wit?

Oh and ed, i'm around your neck of the woods next month, for the grand prix, might see you around ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If you read my note again it will all become clear. I spend only a little time in Monaco nowadays and the Grand Prix is the worst possible time to be there. It is absolute chaos. Over the years whichever wife I was with and I took to being somewhere else at the time. I was there for a few of them.}

22 Apr 2015 12:51:48
loris and vertoghen will want out this summer no doubt

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Apr 2015 13:13:22
Oh sorry I understand now. And aside from during the day watching the grand prix on the boat, all the time is spent just across the border in Italy. Can't be spending 25 euros a pint longer than necessar!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Well from a boat you should have less people to worry about but perhaps a limited view. Ventimiglia is the border town and OK if you know where to go - after that it is tourists and San Remo. Eirther side of Monaco are pleasant towns, Cap d'Ail and Menton.}

22 Apr 2015 16:53:33
The eds all live like Abram. I'm happy to be a boat boy for a year. Extras negotiatable
