guys I would love arsenal for ever but this is becoming the worst time of my life at school people are taking the cookie out of my arsenal as much as I hold it down for the gunz I always seem to lose why over players. enough!!!!!

we lost out on lots of players not just in other windows but this one also m'wbia, snidjer and now m'villa who's club has agreed a fee with a club for 9.6m.

i am now saying this we sign only 3-4 players we have a 70 million kitty there and this is what we spend it on:

cavani:30m
fellani:22m
baines;15m or
contentro:14m

i am saying these are needed asap a gk is needed but shez can hold it down until summer I am sure.this is a massive help for us we need it.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Its really quite simple. Stop crying about it, if they see you getting so upset that they mock the players of your favourite team they will carry on. Just smile, say "Sure we're crap atm, but it's still my Arsenal and we'll be back". Keep smiling.

Agree4 Disagree0

I like that but I have tried imagine being the only gunner there not easy trust me

Our new signings
Walcott ...new contract
Diaby......back from injury
Rosicky..... See above
And finally but not least Gervinho...refreshed after acon willl play one good game and take up the rest of the season anonymously
Wenger will talk about character and fight but won't realise our weaknesses which every other club knows .....defending.......
Tomorrow could be a defining moment ....anything less than 3 points then its hello channel 5 cup
Wenger supporters need to get a reality check and take off those rose tinted glasses maybe we don't need new players but a new manager

Believable12 Unbelievable2

If I didn't know better I would say that it is a conspiracy by other Nike backed teams (Man U) to upset the Professor's concentration during games for their advantage. This is obviously the main reason there is a potential shift to Addidas velcro equipped kit next year.

Wonder how we'll deal with West Ham--Diaby still not at peak, Coq out, Arteta out. Can't rely on Wilshere to mop up alone. My guess is Frimpong (even though I feel like we're so much better when Cazorla is on the wing--would rather that was his permanent position)

Believable0 Unbelievable9

Cazorla did not look comfortable at all on the wing. Not sure if you've been watching, but he is constantly drifting centrally and does not like getting dirty on the defensive side.

At the risk of getting slated maybe people should get off Wenger's back when it comes to him "missing" targets. He obviously saw something that he didn't like in M'Biwa or would have snapped him up. His network of scouts is far more knowledgeable than the Football Manager heroes on here. We all see the need for us to get the chequebook out but I will still trust Wenger to choose the players he spends on.

As for January unfortunately transfers look like they will be minimal. Diame looks likely after the West Ham game tomorrow.

Eds got any info on any other targets?

mhc

Believable7 Unbelievable4

23 Jan 2013 11:18:09
There's nothing wrong with M'biwa, he's a classy player, but he's is not the powerful, aggressive CB we need.

Agree1 Disagree0

Well mhc you can keep trusting his judgement like a blind follower, the man who brought you santos, chamack, gervinho, mertesaker and squillaci.

they are just the recent players deemed good enough by AW, how about the awful players he stood by for years like cygan, djourou, senderos, almunia,

and the players that weren't good enough in AW's eyes like yaya toure, bale, scott parker, defoe and kompany.

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Jan 2013 22:34:29
Just heard southampton is interested in signing Biliga, another long term transfer target of Arsenals! When will it end, M villa, Zaha, Yanga Mbiwa.... How couldn't of Arsenals 8 highly paid scouts do there scouting for potential signings BEFORE JANUARY and then AW bid for them, I don't know IN JANUARY! The thing that throws me, was how Arsene said his priority was to tie down Theo's contract before getting involved in the tranfer market, erm.... CANT HE MULTITASK :( and all that saga for a 3 year deal.... that means if we don't give Theo another contract next year, (which we wont) then this whole saga is going to go on again the year after, and what will he ask for this time 200k? Watching Aston villa tonight reminds me so much of Arsenal lately...No leadership, leaky defence, no character and oh year no cups! I don't know about you guys but if we don't sighn anyone, or only manage to sign a 3.5 mill Diame this transfer window, then I hope we lose our next 5 games and get trashed by Bayern.... we need to... to prove to the board, the manager and the small percentage of fans who still believe in AW philosophy, that we gotta do a U-turn in tactics, players (and coats-for AW, he just can't decide on which type of quality to go for bless him, but he will probably go for the £5 primark one in the end, and pretend it has the potential to keep him warm) Was the Emirates stadium really worth this downfall in Arsenal quality? and can we really recover to our former glory and challenge for the title? Not for many years to come in my eyes!!

23 Jan 2013 01:05:14
How the f**k can people get on Wengers back about potential transfer targets made up by the press!? Get behind the team!

Agree10 Disagree5

Scouts aren't solely employed to recommend players to Wenger that YOU have heard of, there are thousands of players in 100's of leagues around the world. We have unearthed gems before and we will continue to do so.
Tell me when was the last time Man city / Man utd / Chelsea unearthed a hidden gem? That's right they don't need scouts, they just pick of everyone elses best players, and throw a sack load of cash their way.

Agree3 Disagree1

To the guy who made the comment to get off wengers back

everyone is behind the team, don't be so naive, it doesn't matter who the manager or state of the club we will always love arsenal.
the problem is wenger, its so frustating to see a side with so much potential wasting an opportunity to win something.
zonal marking - even you have to admit after 20 odd games this season it has cost us so many times - why have bouldy in there if he can't coach them to defend.
midfield - we really need a commanding defensive mid to break down the opposition and support the back line
motivation - wenger should give his half time talk before the match, it doesn't give you much hope if a team only starts playing when we are 1 nil down.
potential - this team has a lot but we are playing players out of position and they are losing confidence.
these are just some of the reasons why supporters are on arsenes case. it his job to motivate them, pick the team give them the tactical know how - he is failing miserably everytime.
no one is saying break the bank and bankrupt the club, but a club the size of arsenal should not panic spending 20m plus.
i have respect for wenger and what he has done but there comes a time for everyone, if people are mocking him on a regular basis, there must be a reason, I just don't want him to be remembered for being a tired and weary deluded manager, I want to remember him as the kingpin of the invincibles and double team.
if you can't see that my friend then you are as stubborn as wenger.

just heard newcastle have got two french players a nd are on the verge of two more, man united are on the verge of zaha and are poised to make an offer for wanyama from celtic, liverpool are gettin coutiho and ince, so clearly trying to strengthen, we are sixth with very little depth in our squad and wenger thinks the c/d/m like Diame will be enough for us is deluded, we need a proper finisher a leader in the middle and a backup quality centreback and I would love a proper backup experienced goalie. If there is all this money surely any person can see we need more than what we have.
If wenger does buy no one I would much prefer him to play some of our young talent and try and bring some of them through and revert back to our fast slick passing game, I hate winning nothing every year however I always loved the brand of football my club played at times now I see a team that show none of these qualities, it is clear we will win nothing this year yet again but I would love to see eisfeld, gnabry, meade, etc all seem to have a chance to make it with us and maybe use the second half of the season to bring these on, sorry for the depression but like most fans I get home turn on tv, then look on arsenal rumours then realise there is nothing happening yet again.

If Arsene don't make his move soon on his new coat, he's going to miss out on the January sales, 10 days left Arsene, monopoly money just aren't going to cut it this time,
Gooner5555

He'll mostly likely buy it in Summer transfer window. Then it won't get used so he can loan it out to Bolton.

Bergkamp's apprentice

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Jan 2013 22:06:43
Arsene said all the activity will take place/ usually takes place in the last 48 hours of the window sometime last week.....this also tends to be his style. Prices go down and teams get more serious about completing deals

I remember the Arshavin deal going well past the deadline

Something has got to happen....the club knows the fans are angry because the team needs additions...

I can't imagine them standing still this window...we just need to be patient for the last 2-3 days of the window

US Gooner

Believable5 Unbelievable3

We can't afford to standstill in this window even Wenger hates January window. If we want to win one of the cup comps or get into top four we need at least 2-3 top quality players to have chance. Just can't see get that amount now with only 9 odd days to go. We needed them at the start of the month with amount of tough games we were facing, after losing to City and Chelsea feel we missed a big chance to get some points of the top teams and were still to face a resurgent Liverpool next week who have also caught us up.

Bergkamp's apprentice

Agree2 Disagree0

This is such nonsense it really is. The only time this applies is when a team is broke and needs to sell as it needs the money and therefore has no plans of reinvesting what they receive for its players. Lyon for example need to make money so they can be piked at the end of the window. They are looking to shift players. But almost nobody in their team is better than anyone in ours so that is the wrong tree for Wenger to bark up yet again, it's like going to Lille and coming back with Gervinho not Hazard....oh wait...

Otherwise, the price NEVER changes, unless it goes up. Buying at the start of the month does not make a player more expensive than 3.4 weeks later. If anything, buying right at the end usually gives the selling club no time to find a replacement and they expect compensation for that. £13m is suddenly £16m. Or £18m.

Just because Wenger said something doesn't it a) is true or b) works!

If Wenger wanted to save time, hassle and money he should have offered decent packages to Sturridge or Ba, Debuchy, and some good players in Europe. He should have given away Djourou and Sold Chamakh to Bordeaux and pulled his bloody finger out.

Arsenal v man city 1976-77 no goals...Brady was a great player.....the best game ever was 1989 at anfield...we had tickets for the game but the date was changed because of the Events at hillsborough....The kick off was put back because of the traffic being a friday bank holiday....we sat down and they kicked off.....it took us 6 and a half hours to drive because the traffic was so bad.......Some of our supporters walked in near half time.......Also remember going to Anfield for a midweek game in the league cup.....We had great support up there for a night game.....Filled the whole Anfield road end.....Rocky Rocastle scored and we drew 1-1......Also I went to the game where we won 5-0 at the spuds.....i was in with the spuds supporters.....I think alan sunderland got a hat rick and Liam brady got a great goal.....Another game at the spuds when we beat them 3-1 I think...Wrighty scored....back then you were fenced in...i climbed on the fence with some others and wrighty was going mad with us after we scored....he loved playing for us......he was like one of us......Also the two semis against the spuds....they were leading 1-0 from the first leg at highbury.....then they scored in the second leg to make it 2-0...we then scored twice to take it to a replay.....we won that 2-1.....This is a great football club.....One i'm very proud of.....km

Who, pray tell, is going to kick Kroenke out? He's going to fire himself? " in an unprecented move Stan Kroenke fires himself"....is this what you're expecting?

Or

Usmanov: hey Stan, the fans are angry...so I was thinking, I'd make the decisions for your 2 billion dollar business...but it's ok, I'm an Arsenal fan....feel better?

Stan: football is a game for boys in their 20s, come back with a real business proposal....that's great you are an Arsenal fan...I like yachts and thousand acre ranches....lets compare more likes and dislikes

That's about how I see that one going.....

So please.....continue with the Kroenke out, Usmanov in garbage....because that will work. Great idea....can't wait to see this one take legs

US Gooner fans are actually more than capable of voting bad owners out of their club. We should do the same if any of his other 5 clubs are an indication of our suspected slide into mediocrity. All of them sold their best players, all of them became the way we are now, all of them suck, not one of them wins anything any more. In fact I think Kroenke does not have a single trophy in ANY sport with ANY of his teams. We will be mid table at best within the next 3 years if he stays. Watch.

arsenal desperately need another out and out striker and a CDM, look at our bench for the chelsea game for example, all defenders and an out of shape arshavin, which basically left us with no attacking back up for giroud and walcott.

apparently we are interested in jovetic from fiorentina, is there any truth in this rumour eds?

Gourcuff is wanted on loan by Arsenal but we want Lyon to pay 20K of his wages for the loan deal to go throuh. From what I heard they are looking at other teams who are willing to take his entire wage.

Dont want the player as it is...but if we are holding it up for 20k is pathetic.

just disgraceful.

But I also question myself, if he is such a great player who can apparently dominate a team single handedly, why is he only worth 3-5 mil? And why aren't other big clubs after him?

But still, for 3-5 mil there's really no harm is there?

Ed001 wherever you are, you're such a tease! Not deliberately mind - thanks for the info you could share yesterday.

For those who don't know what I'm referring to, this is just about whether something 'big' is going on behind the scenes. Ed has been given an indication something big might be happening in the coming months.

So now I'm wondering what it might be. Obviously we won't be sacking Wenger, and coming months makes it seem as though this isn't about signings, and I doubt it is anything to do with any proposed kit deal.

So....changes up top? I read a comment on Le Grove that made me quietly hopeful - they said they highly doubt Gazidis and co will let Wenger have a say in the new manager (contrary to Wenger's self-assessment approach lol) and that they would want to ensure whoever does come in would not be a power vacuum. The feeling of hope it gave me is in terms of power being restored to the rightful people at the club. There's no question Wenger is untouchable, and I doubt they want to see a new face come in whenever that happens who would have the same grip on all club affairs. So in basic terms, a power shift maybe? Moreover, people retiring? PH-W? I think he proved his time has come at AFC in terms of mindset with his outlandish sarcastic comments about fans' interest in their affairs...nail in the coffin for me. So new chairman?

Or new owner? I find this area of change as intriguing/exciting as new signings, if not more so.

I wonder......

Many fans were ready for a new manager 2 summers ago if not longer, then even more last summer, and now you could argue half the fan base are totally open to the idea of a new manager coming in the summer.

I feel bad for Pardew. A lot of people dislike him but he's one of my more favoured managers and this season just hasn't been his season for the above reasons. He is clearly doing what he can to sign players, but QPR offered more wages to Remy, Montpellier's president has come out and nailed Yanga for choosing them and he's a no show for his medical so of course that's put the media in a frenzy...nothing seems to be going their way. They deserve to be a top 10 team and I hope they sort it out, it's been a very unlucky season for them. So if we do sign M'Biwa I will feel very sly on them!

Iv seen a lot posts regarding wenger leaving at the end of the season. But who could possibly replace him? Now I'm not just talking about being a good manager when it comes to tactics. I'm referring more to the influence he has on certain players for example Cesc remained for as long as he did because of wenger.
Wilshere also has huge admiration for wenger, same as arteta, cazorla podolski Ox .
So I was wondering if wenger left would they be down beat? I would think so unless someone like guardiola came in but that's not happening now.
So I believe the best chance to keep players motivated would be to get a manager who is I former legend at the club.
Someone like Bergkamp or even someone with a very good reputation I.e Louis van gaal or hiddink even

I find your post extremely disrespectful, sure Wenger is becoming the victim of his own success.
People have very short memories, 3 league titles, and 4 fa cups.
Where would we be now without him do you think?
Unfortunately the money that the owners of the likes of Chelsea and Man City have brought to the game has totally screwed it up for the likes of our fantastic self sufficient club.
I for one am extremely proud of the way we go about the running of our great club, sure I'd like a few more trophies along the way, but there is no way another manager will be able to come in and wave a magic wand and all of a sudden we are winning silverware again.

What we need is stability, a core of players that actually WANT to play for Arsenal and to play the way Wenger (and lets be honest most neutral fans) like us to play. I truly beleive Wenger is still the man to bring back the glory we tasted in his earlier years. What we need is for players to stay loyal, and not have there heads turned by the mega payday, as soon as they start to play well, add to that a couple (not more than that in my opinion) very good / world class players, and we will be challenging again.

We will never be able to match Man City / Chelsea / United for wages, so to attract big names again we have to show we can compete. An FA cup win (or league cup, which I know is gone this year) will go a long way to kick starting the winning ways again.
So players who genuinely want to win things will start coming to us again.

An excellent post!

After the Swansea match their was renewed excitement, after the Chelsea match Arsene was the villain!

When Dein and other great Arsenal execs and players scream the praise of Arsene I will take their perspective in greater consideration over the frustration of some that is currently occuring!

I respect the opinions of others, but billion dollar businesses do not make knee jerk reactions solely on the basis of frustration of its supporters. All factors are considered and rightly so! As such Arsene will remain the manager because considering both the context of his achievement and current desire of the ownership/board he still presents the best resource for the club!

This when it is deemed to be appropriate may change, Arsene is not bigger than the club, but the relative criticism should be judged according to the circumstances, much of which we are in the dark about!

Arsene as Dein pointed out has built this club to what we are! Frustration is acceptable and understood but without full understanding of the circumstances its seems somewhat shortsighted to condemn and ask for his termination of employment!

Tactically there are things which I believe require resolution and I will question accordingly, but I will still never fathom the lack of regard towards Arsene because of our current situation. The richest and most successful clubs and people in the world would hire him in a New York second, and some are so quick to show him to the door.....remember the grass is not always greener on the other side, and it would be shortsighted to make decisions based on emotion and incomplete information!

Gunners4Life, In AW we trust

Agree3 Disagree1

G4Life - "In AW we trust" trust to do what?

How is it a knee jerk reaction. 7 years roll by and if you guys can tell me that we will win anything for the next 3 atleast I will become quite. We can't compete with Chl or ManCity is a sorry excuse. If the board had put in an extra 20 mill each year into the team for the last 7 years we would have won enough to re-coup that investment. Add to that top notch players would have come to play for our clubs = Merchandise sale etc..

What the board and Wenger are doing is settling for 4th place and being scared to make that leap to actually challenge for trophies.

Clubs would hire him alright but I think Wenger is damaged goods now, I don't see any vision in his signings, team selections, formation, player positioning. He will become the next Rafa, go from club to club destroying legacies.

Ash

Agree0 Disagree0

..and its a New York minute :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ash,

interesting comments and it goes to my point regarding assumption.

How do you know that 20m would have won you any titles?

Businesses of this magnitude don't make financial decisions based on hope, they make such decisions based on factual information.

I think frustration has occured because we have lost several significant players recently and have purchased some players that have fallen below the norm we are accustomed to and as result have fallen to a level beneath our expectation.

However until someone gives us exact facts (this will never happen of course) and indicates he is to blame I will continue to support Arsene. I am more inclined to believe the comments of those who have been intimately involved with the club who continue to sing his praise.

Ironic that no one who has played or worked with Arsene including Mr Dein and other have criticised him, in fact they have asked for him to be continually supported!

Arsenal supporters because of this man have been spoiled, but the truth is not prevalent for all to see, as such I will trust those who have built our legacy in their assessment of Arsene.

When his time comes I will thank him for his service until then its too easy to blame him!

Sadly it appears no significant signings will be made this window. Arsene and the board's model of mediocrity means that they can keep stuffing their wallets full of cash while our club obsesses about a 4th place finish which is getting harder and harder to guarentee. Wenger was once great but is in danger of damaging his reputation like a sober Brian Clough. He's on the side of profits for share holders and not trophies for the club. The recent sales - which strengthen our rivals - cemented our new, lowly position as feeder club to teams that have real ambition. Imagine what our league position might be without the sales we have made the last couple of years. We are being taken for persons, paying fortunes to follow our club and watching players like RVP being replaced by...well you know what I mean. The new stadium was, we were told, to enable us to compete with the best in Europe...instead we are knocked out of the cup by Bradford City, struggling to keep pace with spurs & about to be humiliated by Bayern Munich. We are a London based club with an amazing stadium - we should be able to attract the best players in the world...instead they would rather go to manchester for god's sake! Either we push to accept Usmanov or for a 'fan-owned' model like Barcelona. We need to boycott matches if necessary or we are likely to sleep-walk into a future where our club is nothing but a cash-cow for greedy, rich people who do not love the club. We are being decieved. WE MUST ACT!

We knew about our massive fixture pile in mid-November, however no one came in. We are now effectively through the month, and Wenger's under much less pressure to buy.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Hi Ed002 could you guesstimate the financial difference between Arsenal reaching the final of the Europa League versus going out of the Champions League in the Last16 round?

We always here that Champions League football is worth around £30m, but is that if a team reaches the final? surely if you exit at the group stage or last 16 the TV earnings are lower?

Over the last few seasons Arsenal are, I am ashamed to say, just there to make up the numbers in the last 16 of the Champs Lge, arguably, we would have a better chance of reaching the Europa Lge final, but could it actually be worth more or is the TV money just so much better for the elite competition?

gun44 {Ed002's Note - £30M is about what a club would get exiting after the group stage. The money for winning the EL would be circa £10M.}

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Cheers Ed, so really the lost monies would be 20-25m if we didn't get top4 this season, this isn't as disasterous as I initially thought.

It could be offset by the expected sale of Sagna (15m) and 3-4 squad players, plus we are looking at reducing wages next season by about 20m with all fringe players leaving for free or nominal fees.

More likely though, the reported 70m we have to spend, will be more like 50m (not that it makes a difference if we refuse to spend!)

gun44 {Ed002's Note - It is possible that some sponsorship may be lost or reduced as well. It is common to have such clauses in contracts.}

Well this is what I hate about Wenger.

Only a week or so ago he was there giving it large about his list and how Zaha was on the list. Now it's 'we were never in for him, never.' Just goes to show that was a move to get Theo to sign imo.

Nice one Wenger for once again playing the fans in a bid to do what you want when really it's your rubbish management that saw Theo stalling. The guy didn't even want to leave AFC and it took him this long to sign - call that good management? That is pathetic! So instead of doing your job properly you used a top young player, British, therefore the PERFECT pawn in terms of 'realism', you knew what you were doing when you said you were interested and you couldn't give two rubbishs about how much of a let down that is for us. And our squad is that bad that we fans were actually grabbing the tissues with excitement at the prospect of signing Zaha. All to get Theo to sign. Pathetic. Oh yeah, Zaha's a gooner - you really are a w4nker Arsene.

Rapidly beginning to feel nobody is coming in this window. Every window that I have been a reader on this site I have made excuses for that French person-

'He wants to wait for prices to drop, he'll go for a player at a broke team and leave it late so they have to accept a crap offer' - WRONG

'We're waiting to see what happens with Fabregas/Nasri' - WRONG

'We're waiting until our CL progression is confirmed after beating Udinese next week coz we won't sign someone if we aren't in the CL' - WRONG

'He's gone to Chelsea/Man U/Spurs because it was all a smokescreen and we're in for someone else watch this space!' - WRONG

'There's no way in hell Wenger would sell Song and not sign another DM, no way, that is crazy' - WRONG

'Why would we buy him now when we can get him half price in Jan?' - WRONG prices went up!

'There's 8/9 days left, our problems are so obvious how can Wenger ignore them? Course we will sign someone have patience like a good little bitch' - WRONG!!

Ahhhhh fuming. All this chat of Thauvin etc - I accept that the media will be doing their bit and we get linked with some kid every window who never comes....you can see it unrolling like this: 'What you up to Grimandi?' 'Well Arsene, I've been in France for about a lifetime and I've given you the magic list, you know who to sign, there's nobody else here worth mentioning...so nothing.' 'Ok Grimantube so what are you actually doing this week?' 'Well to be honest just wondering why I bother...still trying to work out why you asked me to watch Giroud for 10 weeks when I told you after 1 week he was a good enough back up striker. That said, there's this quite good 19 year old I'm hearing about, might go check him out - name's Thauvin, plays for some rubbish team. How is it with you?' 'Excellent, enjoy that. January's been great thanks, really relaxing - we threw away loads of points this month - didn't even turn up against Swansea or Chelsea haha!' [Grimandi seen that a Thauvin game] BOOM "Arsenal weigh up bid for teen starlet" all over the headlines YAWN.

But all we need is a good footballer with a bit of bottle that is IT!! Do people not realise how much better we would be if that is all we added to the team? Defenders who can defend? There are loads of them all over the world, affordable and desperate to play on the big stage, but noooooo. All we need in midfield is a guy who can do the basics of what any footballer should be about really - use both feet, defend well pass well run with the ball, that is f***ing it and again there are so many midfielders who would improve us it is almost offensive! There are players at West Brom, Wigan, Fulham, Newcastle, Sunderland, in fact almost every single team in the league who WOULD improve us - not that many on here would agree but that is the cold hard truth. You don't need to be 'world class' to be an improvement on what we've got. You think Brunt would go missing in a champions league game? Would he f**k. He would die on that pitch trying to win the game and he is a talented footballer. You might say 'aim higher' but the sooner Wenger stops thinking the way he does and starts signings players who lay it on the line and don't go missing in big games the better. Why did we not do what we could to sign Agger the first time Liverpool lost out on top 4? Why did we not do what we could to sign Sterling, who has been an absolute revelation this season, million times better than Theo or The Ox at that age. Wipes the floor with our 'wingers' Ramsey and Gervinho.

I am not after some Sneijder signing, I couldn't give a flying f** about that in all honesty, all I want is to sign STRONG COMBATIVE PLAYERS. Diame or Wanyama? IDGAS! Just sign one! We have players who go missing at the drop of a fart, it is a disgrace. Wenger seems to think that because he has earmarked Jenko as Sagna's replacement that that is fine not to sign someone else? Age + 2 leg breaks + seriously diminished form tells me and the rest of the world we need a new established RB NOW - wait - wasn't Debuchy available for £5m? WENGER YOU person!

He'll lie about how he almost signed him. Said the same thing about Ronaldo a few months ago

Agree2 Disagree0

As angry as I am about our impotence right now, we DID nearly sign Ronaldo... He was with us a week and wearing an Arsenal kit, deal all but done then Red Nose offered double money and much more wages so he was off!!

Yesterday I read that Arsenal were considering a last minute bid for Mbiwa to try and hijack his move to Newcastle. Today
I read that he failed to turn up for his medical at Newcastle. Could this mean that he's going to come to the Emirates instead?

Our next 5 Premier League games are crucial, with 4 at home and one away, we desperately require 5 wins, before we play Toot away. Before the window Wenger must sign a dominant centre back & at least one strong tall defensive midfield player. With a 4th centre back we have cover in all 4 defensive positions, in the summer we can replace the full-backs Santos & Sagna.
If we sign a defensive midfield player we would be able to rotate the new player, Arteta, Abu Diaby & Coquelin in the defensive midfield roles, possibly Frimpong as well. This will allow Wilshere & Cazorla to play further forward, where they can do more damage, with the security of having a couple of defensive midfield players covering them.
I would love to see Wenger revert to his successful 4-4-2 formation & abandon zonal marking, but no doubt he will obstinately persist as is.

Jack butland is a good call get him in and build from the back

Believable10 Unbelievable2

He would be a good signing as he is U21, English & talented. The downside is that he is young, when we need an experienced keeper to work alongside Szczesny & he is too similar age wise to hang about whilst Szczesny has the jersey.

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeah get Butland to sit on the bench, very good decision... He is good, but he not as good as szczesny is...

Agree1 Disagree2

Rather Fraser Forster. Stopped Messi for 180 minutes both home and away only for him to score an open goal rebound after some world class saves.

He's 6'7 as well, and has great reflexes. Would imagine he would be available for 6-7 million.

Funny thing ed says someting big could change at arsenal and that he thinks it might be that wenger might be going. Then all of a sunden everyone has a itk source about wenger leaving and who is replacing him why do people feel the need to do this its pretty sad no one knows what's going on even ed said he don't know much if people realy have to repost rumours they have seen and say they are itk about it you would think they would have the sence to at least get them off aouther web site

Believable4 Unbelievable1

One thing you can be sure of with Arsenal is that there is no one In The Know, Arsenal famously deal with transfers very quietly, normally just three people at the club know what is going on and rare discussions are strictly behind closed doors.

ITK people who have news about Arsenal are normally affiliated to other clubs, where information leaks are more common, where agents, scouts and coaches are kept ITK.

As for Wenger, he decides when and where he goes (my bet is he does not manage another club, he'll be Arsenal CE, perhaps he'll manage France as well). Madrid have been long time admirers, Jose is on borrowed time, Wenger is stuck in a rutt, so it's an easy connection for the media to make, and Madrid are known for "testing the waters" with leaking club intentions.

Why is every time we lose a game you get every new pundit and other people coming out saying we are in real trouble in crises it makes me laugh we hear the same thing every season for the past 4 or 5 seasons. At the start of the last 4 seasons nearly every pundit would say I see arsenal being the team to miss out of the top 4 yet every year we make it and the same pundits come out and say not good enough there in crises but yet they thought we were going to finish out of the top 4 so surely they should think they have done better than I thought. Yes we have been slacking lately but if we win against wet ham we are only 4 points away from 4th and come on arsenal fans 90% of us thought that is were we will finish this season anyway. The pundits all said we wouldn't make top 4 this season but When WE Do finish in the top 4 this season they we say not good enough should do better.

Arsenal 4 Life

Believable9 Unbelievable5

Mate, I love my Arsenal but 4th spot every year IS a CRISIS!
Especially when we barely scrape it by the skin of our teeth and a lot of luck along the way.
I stand by the team. I stand by Wenger. I sing loud and proud in Block 5 like the rest of us down there but I'm starting to feel like the guy who stayed with his wife after catching her cheating and am wondering where she REALLY was last night!
So much of where we are now is down to our own mistakes and our own failures and I would just like to see it improved.

Block 5 Gooner

Agree3 Disagree3

It is not just when we lose a game mate. I think in at least 90% of games this season, even the victories, the commentators have said "this is the worst arsenal performance I have ever seen under wenger".

We are lucky to still be in reach of 4th place, every game looks difficult now, we really have dropped in standard.

Agree3 Disagree0

I think they say we are in crisis not solely because of points or league position but rather the performances we put in regardless of those, and the way in which we capitulate like clockwork which shows we never seem to be moving on from past problems. This is why they say we're in crisis, because slowly but surely performances are worse, players coming in are worse, and league position is more and more at risk - and we don't seem to progress. In many cases we digress. This is the arsenal crisis. One good game - we're on the up! Next game - back to square one. It will take a season of fighting and regular top displays before we lose the crisis stigma and we have to accept that.

I think someone has to say this loud and clear:

Arsenal is signing anyone on this transfer window, Wenger has been preparing everyone to say it outloud on the final week: the "only world class players" speech has turned in the recent days into "all player that could have stenghed the team are champions league bounded", it is obvious if you combine this with "we have a very strong team even if no one sees it" we have a very clear declaration saying that not we are not buying for 2 main reasons:

1. We have a very strong team, underperforming, with very little to fix if you can see its "potential"

2. The players that could make us stronger and fix that little weaknesses are not available: the great mojority are "cup bounded" (Gotze, Hummels, Wanyama, etc) others are economically unreachable (Cavani, Gotze, etc), others simply don't want to come (Mapou Mbiwa, etc) and finally those who could come but Wenger doesn't seem want them to (Capoue, Ben Arfa, Mvilla, Benteke etc).

So we need to prepare ourselves not only for a gloomy end of widow but for the worst season ending of the last 10 years.

Who would you rather, Diame or wanyama?
I think no matter who's better, wenger will go for the cheaper option. aka Diame.

Believable1 Unbelievable9

Would rather Wanyama but Diame is still a steal at 5 mil

Agree5 Disagree0

Wenger should buy both.
Get rid of diaby.
Make arteta an attacking midfielder

Agree2 Disagree6

I would buy both, firstly I believe Wanyama is able to cover at centre back. Secondly, there will be times when we should play both of them in front of the back four to provide defensive protection.

Agree2 Disagree0

If Diame is good enogh to single-handedly embarrass us all game against us then he is good enough to play for us, it's as simple as that. People look at Diame and think 'nah he's not good enough' - what more do you want to see? How is he not good enough? He covers the whole pitch, he does what Fellaini does for Everton, one min he's defending the next he's building an attack, he has skill, he can dribble, he tales it past players, he's quick, composed, he was the only West Ham player who had fun against us and he can score. What more do we want?

This is one signing where if Wenger spend under £10m I for one will feel he's found a gem Wenger-style and I would love to see Diame in an Arsenal shirt. How many excellent displays does a guy have to put in and over how many seasons, before people on here start to realise he is a brilliant footballer and someone we could badly do with in the fold, cheap, and with prem experience?

Metal Gooner

Agree7 Disagree0

Spot on Metal Diame would thrive for us and is a bargain, his price does not reflect his worth.

I think we missed the boat for Wanyama, we all know we should have secured him in the summer, (a familiar story with Wenger) he does not represent value for money now at 15m+ for a reletively inexperienced 21 year old.

I would like both players, both have resale value if it doesn't work out, buyers can be found because they are not asking for silly wages.

If Wenger does go to PSG then I think we should go for Moyes. He would get back up top. Guardiola will go to manyoo in 3-4yrs time when rednose retires, Moyes would be ours.

Chas_80

Believable9 Unbelievable11

I believe Moyes would be a solid appointment. He has proved at Everton that he can run a team on a shoestring budget & discover quality players. His team play with a desire currently lacking at Arsenal.
