Just been taking to my mate who is a Liverpool fantastic and he's absolutely convinced Benteka is a bargin at 32 million and Liverpool will challenge big time for the title this season, obviously I offered him a bet they wouldn't finish top 4 and without hesitation he took the bet extremely happily.
Rose coloured specs are amazing things for so many fans of all clubs who when talking about football in general have a brilliant knowledge and understanding of the game but when it comes to thier team all sense goes out the window and their hearts take over their brains completely.
Ive got loads of gooner mate who no matter what happens always believe totally not hope but proper believe each and every season we will be champions that season and they never concede the title until its 100% mathematically impossible for us to win it.
Its wierd what love can do to some people :-)

I don't feel Liverpool have made terrible signing and yes they have overpaid as they went in very brash with their dealings

My concern is that building a new team in one summer is a big risk. I think it was AW who said signing more than 4 1st team players in one season has a massive risk of unsettling the team. I think he is right as look what happened with Tottenham after Bale. I think Liverpool fans can be excited but they should expect anything for at least 2 seasons

I think Liverpool should be taken very seriously.

Benteke will be a success there.

Danny Ings will score goals.

Nathaniel Clyne is a quality defender.

James Milner, whilst not spectacular, is very reliable.

Firmino, by all accounts, is top quality, and could prove to be a perfect partner for Coutinho.

Don't know much about Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez, but I think they have bought well.

On the negative side, too many arrivals could prove unsettling, and their defence is pants.

All you can do as a fan is expect your club to invest in players and while they have lost two big players in two years they have bought some very good players. What works against them is the sheer number of players to integrate. 8 this summer alone. If I was a liverpool fan I'd be happy but they want more players it seems because 8 is not enough.

Dags, I have to say, I think it's nowhere near as clear cut as you suggest.

Benteke isn't necessarily going to be a success. Liverpool play a certain way that, for balotelli and Lambert, was a system impossible to get on with. Will Brendan adjust the system?

Ings might score goals and might be successful, but it's easier to be a big fish in a little pond. We already have the situation with him being scared to wear certain shirt numbers. How will react to not playing most games? Not sure he will be a success.

Clyne is a good defender. Saying that though, he's not brilliant going forward. Is Brendan going to play with 3 and the back and 2 wing backs? If so I can see clyne doing great as a wing back.

Milner, very good midfielder. Is he any better than Gerrard? If not, are Liverpool to improve?

Firmino, never really seen him play. Don't know where you guys regularly watch these players to get an opinion, but I don't remember seeing hoffenheim play so can't say much.

bogdan is ok. But if arsenal signed him, I'd think it was a rubbish piece of stop gap business. They need to replace their substandard number one, not get a substandard backup.

Gomez, not a clue who he is.

C S,

Agree mate. It's now all down to Rodgers.

8 players this season is a lot to make gel especially on top of those still still trying to fit in from last season further complicated by losing Gerrard Suarez and Stirling means they are still trying to replace rather than build on already solid foundations, hey my mate might be right and Liverpool might put in a real title challenge but I think that's as likely as city being relegated.
They have spent an awful lot of money on socks vests and pants but to me still look very short of making the best dressed list in those non matching boiler suit and plimsols.

im probably the biggest benteke fan on here, when he could of left for 25million i was amazed no one payed it. baffles me

liverpool won't be top4 and rodgers will be out and rodgers in.

joe gomez is a great prospect i feel we should of took a punt.

also dags i know rolando aarons isn't needed right now but i have faith and think he will become a 30mill pound plus player in few years.

Rolando Aaron's looks good after his injury. I honestly believe he can be as good as he wants. Wouldn't mind us signing him and leave him there this year. If I was Liverpool he would be my sterling replacement.

Hi eds. Now that Carvalho is injured and we have to wait if we want to sign him, I was just wondering why exactly can't we sign him even though he's injured? If he's out for three months he would easily be available for the christmas period. Instead now we look set to wait until january or even next summer if we want to sign him. If I remember right Ospina was injured when we signed him so why can't we simply sign Carvalho even though he won't be able to play from the beginning?

{Ed002's Note - Medical should be a blast then.}

Arsene would get sooo much stick if he signed him now, anyone remember Kim Kallstrom :-)

22 Jul 2015 18:22:23
Iceman that is an absolutely insane notion. It's not the fact he could be out for three months at all. It could be 3,4 or 5 months then you want to see how he responds when he comes back he might loose sharpness and then on top of that you want to see him perform for a good few months after especially with a metatarsal break.

And like ed said is he going to give the medical center staff LSD to pass him?

22 Jul 2015 20:22:10

I'm curious about the Benzema stories in all the papers.
1. Are we interested
2. have we inquired and if so has/will an offer be made
3. is the player open to a move and what are our chances of landing him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Jul 2015 16:02:12
The answer is yes we're interested .

He will move if real don't want him and then if chelsea, United , city , psg or Munich don't want him it will be a dog fight between us or Spurs 😉

22 Jul 2015 16:27:12
1: I'd assume so, if he was available.

2: couldn't really say (I'm not an 'itk' unfortunately)

3: You'd think he would be, however, I assume a lot of clubs would want Benzema if he was available!
He's not going to go somewhere not in the UCL, so that's Liverpool out of the picture, but he's also going to want massive wages, I'm sure he's earning something silly at Madrid, to join us, he'd probably want parity, if not more, than Alexis!

I don't think I've actually answered any of your questions there...sorry!

See kolo toure has said that with the capture of benteke He thinks Liverpool will unbeatable with the squad they have, he's an ambitious young chappy isn't he lol :-) there isn't a single player barring maybe coutinho that I would have at arsenal, I fear the worst for Liverpool this season, I honestly think they will struggle to make the top 7 or even top 10 :/ they've bought players but nothing that makes me think they will be anywhere near contenders this season not even Europa league

Believable1 Unbelievable1

22 Jul 2015 13:34:25
Saying they wouldn't make the top 10 is abit far fetched mate , I think they have a descent squad but not a top 4 or title challenging squad . I expect them to finish 6-7th

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jul 2015 13:47:16
I've got to disagree. They have made some poor buys at ridiculous prices and should have a much better squad with the money they've spent but I think it's ludicrous to think that they won't make top 10. I guess a lot of it will depend on whether Ings, Firmino and Benteke will hit the ground running, plus, they could also do with some new defenders in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 14:45:39
It's hard to disagree with you TPG. They have had 100 plus million from sales alone. And coupled with the annual spending allowance you could argue that they had 160-200 million to spend over the past 3 windows. They have bought poorly. They missed a trick last summer with the lure of CL football. Instead of buying top quality to replace what they have lost they go on a rampage of buying lots of average players a recipe for disaster . But as always in football you never know and can't write anyone off. But personally I'd be fuming if I was a liverpool fan right now

Samper anyone? Wenger's always liked him, possibly the best midfielder out of Barca's youth system since Thiago in my opinion.
