Evening gunners, just seen the news Ozil has retired from international duty. As a football fan, i'm actually glad he has. A terrific player who i think, along with many others, bore the brunt from the German supporters, simply because of his Turkish origins.

Positive news for you guys, least he gets to rest up every summer now, even this WC he got the most stick, not Muller/ Boateng who were by far the worst players in the team. Literally sick of the media turning everything against this guy, just can't appreciate a player can they?

I don’t know about what has happened but what i do know is that everyone points the finger at Mesut like he is supposed to wave a wand and make everyone else play better. Quality player and if anyone wants to get on his wave he will give them a tap in.

I’ve just read his statement and wow! If it’s true it’s an absolute disgrace! The press tried its best with Raheem sterling over here! If that’s how Mesut feels then I’m 100% behind the guy.

I thought in Germanys first game Mesut was one of very few German players to come out of the game with any credit yet he was dropped for game 2.
The political side of things I'm not really up on but from everything I've heard or read about Mesut he's a very decent human being who has real respect for people from all walks of life.
His persona makes him an easy target yet if he is in a team that advocates his style of play he shines as brightly as anyone anywhere.
At Real he was outstanding and in South Africa 2010 unbelievably brilliant.

He’s shown class in the epl he’s a quaility player.

Well said Mesut Ozil, the people involved should be ashamed but they clearly won’t be. 100% behind him.
😡.

He has Sanogo mate but in the premier league he's been playing in a very inconsistent often struggling Arsenal side and if Dick can make us more consistent and more competitive on a regular basis then I think the best of Mesut Ozil is yet to come in an Arsenal shirt by far and one no one can argue against.

Just read the statement in full.
Your better off without them all Mesut.
" when the team win I'm German but when Germany lose I'm a Turkish immigrant.
My advice would be carry on your worldwide charity work and concentrate on being a very good citizen of planet earth that you have shown yourself to be repeatedly, Germanys loss is the rest of the world's gain in my opinion.

I remember the day after an fa cup win during the victory parade Mesut said " it was a fantastic feelimg to see so many people from so many different cultures celebrating together and all being happy together "
To me that sounds like one of life's good guys speaking .

His response was very articulate and damning.

Exactly sanogo mate! It's so good to see ozil come out, take a stand and be firm that his country should not bind him with such things. He is a sportsperson and should have no involvement in the political dynamics. Meeting with someone is not the biggest crime in the world now is it!
An article read that some Bayern official was quoted saying- good he retired "He's been sh*t for seasons"
Hope he has a blinder of a season to shut these guys!

23 Jul 2018 10:18:34
If just meeting someone was a crime then what about all those who have met with Donald Trump? And all the countries that have entertainmed him including Germany it self?
Gutter scapegoat stuff from those who called him a hero 4 years ago.

It would be brilliant to see some of Mesuts team mates in the German squad show some solidarity with him by following him in quiting the national team, the younger and more high profile the better.
This time it's Mesut but in 2 and 4 years time it could equally be any of them that people turn on and make a scapegoat of.
The German fa needs to realise without the players wanting to play for their country Russia 2018 will look like a brilliant tournament in 10 years time.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - agreed. It could be them blamed next time.}

23 Jul 2018 12:12:49
I thought it was obvious ozil would quit the national team, i don't have him down as a fighter. I do think some of the comments about him from the german football side are siding on racist and should be investigated and dealt with.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it has been going on for years ste, he has stayed and fought through ten years+ of racial abuse, not sure why you think that finally having enough makes him not a fighter?}

23 Jul 2018 12:32:57
I have never had him down as a fighter, ed, he downs his tools too early, i did predict he would quit the national team. The comments from the footballing side of germany do need investigating, to see if there is any racial connection. Germany have more mixed race players than ozil in their ranks.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and all of them suffer abuse over it. As for Ozil, he has been going through it all his career, it is a different kind of fight he shows.}

23 Jul 2018 14:02:18
Exactly right ed. You could say that he is now actually fighting.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - exactly, he has stood up and said "this is not acceptable and I won't take it any more". Good luck to the lad. I hope he has the best season of his career this time out.}

23 Jul 2018 14:34:10
I read something once that to me typified looking the other way when things don't directly affect you.
Unfortunately for Germany it is was also directed at them.

First they came for the Jews but I wasn't a jew so did nothing to help stop it happening.
Then they came for communists but I wasn't a communist so I did nothing to to help it stop it happening.
Then then they came for me and they're was no one left to help me.

Angela Merkel needs to step up to the plate here because she and Germany lead the way on helping refugees just a couple of years ago and the German people lined the streets to welcome the refuge people into their country, watching this on TV I thought how brilliant it was to see Germany putting so much distance between themselves now and their past and leading the way with on a huge humanitarian crisis, the German government shouldn't let ignorant people undo now what they've worked so hard to achieve for so long.

I would urge everyone everywhere to support Mesut in every way possible because as Mesut said this has crossed the line way beyond football.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you only have to look at what happened to the lower league side whose fans were being abused by neo-Nazi fans of another team. When they responded by calling them Nazis they were fined and the team was threatened with closure when they refused to pay the fine.}

23 Jul 2018 15:54:21
It's a very sad state of affairs when people can suddenly turn cheering into hatred and a national hero into an immigrant simply because of the results of football matches.
People do and say some crazy stuff when caught up in the heat of the moment but it's only when the chips are really down you discover who your real friends are and who was just a good time hanger on.
Mesut as a person has done a lot of good supporting charities all over the world I hope now those same charities and all fair minded people from all over the world will stand by his side now and stand up to those who peddle hatred and discrimination.
I truly hope his team mates start the ball rolling and help something truly good come out of something so distasteful and totally unjustified.

The DFB are denying any racism exsists or exsited so an enquiry should be welcome by them to see if the truth can come out. It is something that should be chased up when an allegation is made 100%.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jul 2018 16:47:55
Maybe if those who don't feel that Mesut was treated equally follow his lead things will change Steve but if the others remain silent little will change.
Mesut has kicked started the ball it's up to others to help him keep it rolling if it's to have any real impact or change.
I hope if Arsenal draw a German side in the Europa league we will make a point by publicly stating we will not let him be the subject of more discrimination and leave him out of our squad on compassionate grounds for any visits to Germany.
This would be a very public backing he deserves.

James mcclean to Stoke! Has there ever been a player more fitting for a club! 😂
In fairness to benzema if it is a fabricated story is it not good on him for calling them out on it? I was actually going to ask the other day you must get countless "I read in so and so we are interested in. Any truth in this? " and wondered how many actually tallied up with what you guys heard and how much was fabrication and if a lot did appear to be how come the press don't get called out more often? Is it just not worth the effort so the press just carry on?

22 Jul 2018 16:32:56
The press and sky seek only attention because attention = money to them, Benzema won't stop them only the public can do that by not giving them the attention they seek.

they just throw mud at the wall and ain't really worried if it sticks or not it's only the audience size that's important to them.
Of course they get lucky every now and then and shout out " it was us who brought you this story first " failing to mention the other 300 things they predicted that came to nothing.

If sky got paid only on accuracy they would run on a 5 second loop rather than hourly and the papers would be be published monthly and be half a page long including ads.
Some people prefer lies to silence and sky and the tabloids provide that service gladly for them.
