John Terry says Petr Cech will be worth an extra 12 to 15 points a season to us, bit of an exaggeration that but I think probably 5 to 7 is very likely, add a very top striker and between them 12 to 15 extra sounds much more realistic.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i agree G62

22 Jun 2015 23:11:12
I think Everton having Tom Cleverley is worth an extra 12 to 15 points.

To everybody else.

Only joking Ed025 :-)

Problem is g62 which striker of this ilk is available? As far as I'm concerned there is none unless agreeing goes to real which will never happen

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 10:22:43
Funny stuff guys =] . I don't think Terry is far wrong tho. We haven't had a keeper of this calibre since seaman (Lehmann some would argue but i think Seaman was better in the day).

I really believe even without other signings that Cech with his command presence and overall ability will help tenfold. We seem to be the team that has to be a goal behind before we kick into gear imo, and I believe if we didn't concede that 1st goal and get into gear we would gain a lot more points. I think Cech would make that difference over a season.

So to get to the point we drop to many points on draws because we start utter rubbish but Cech's command of defence and shot stopping could stop that goal and lead us to win the game instead of draw it so ultimately 3 points instead of 1. add that up over the season and its probably closer to 15 points and owe noes Morinho were closer then you wanted lol

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 11:20:48
I think Arsene is happy with Theo Danny and Olly if he can't get a very top player like Benzema, Petr Cech 15 points thing that's 5 games we would have lost but go on to win instead with Ospina in goal? That's a lot because of course Cech is a massive upgrade but Ospina wasn't a bad keeper at all just not an acceptional keeper like Cech is

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 22:07:21
Evening guys. Cech is a massive signing and we finally have a world class goalie after a decade of waiting. I feel hel bridge the gap some what he's immense.

Need a striker and a midfielder I feel. At a push cb but that's next year.

Great start

Happy we have Cech, very happy, but still have a lot of sympathy for Ospina.

He was ok Dags , once I watched the Swansea goal go in, for me he was never going to say as a first choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 09:34:00
He did Dags but Cech is an improvement and we can't have four senior keepers in the squad - especially when atleast three of them will want games. I guess this is a sign of Wenger being slightly ruthless as opposed to sentimental, which we've all been asking for for a while now.

Its everywhere now Cech completes Arsenal move :-) :-) :-) we won't make a better signing this summer no matter who we might get that's for sure.
We can truly expect to challenge for the title now and more signings only reenforce that further.

Great game to face your old club in for the first time, not exactly a friendly but as good as so will competive in name but also low key which ultimately will have absolutely no bearing on the season ahead one way or the other, ideal to shake off the old and ease into the new.

Stoner and I have chatted before I ever met you on here and I think (hope) he knows I am just an old fashioned gent, happy to meet friends for a laugh and a drink.

I am a people person, especially to all those personable to me.

And Stoner and I used to have long chats about our Arsenal, with me always trying to see the positive even when they were tough to defend.

It's the lovely Mrs Sanchez mate, not sure what she sees in him when she could have Chris.

Would be good to get up there if I can sort it J, besides ,Chris is dying to meet me.

Sounds like Cech is done, now for a few more then were up for a quality season.

I was disappointed with 3rd as 2nd at the end was up for grabs and barriers like that need to be knocked down if you're aiming for the big prize.

Ps it would be good to meet you Chris. :-) I'm not scary like Malaga.

22 Jun 2015 21:21:36
G62. I would like the honour of the first round please. :)

Stoner. It would seem Sanchez and his arrival has been of benefit on so many levels.

I think if we can add a cdm, Carvalho or either if the Bender Bristol and add a pack powerful forward who has good feet, or if not great feet then good pace strength and finishing and I honestly believe we are ready to roll.

I like the idea of Benzema or Higuain, although have no idea if either is possible.

Jackson Martinez has scored goals for fun but one of the other two would be my preference.

I think we might be OK at cb with Chambers, Gabriel and Koscielny but if we could get Carvalho, he can play cb and then I would be happier.

Lastly, an area that not many speak about. But left back.

There is a real talent around in the 16-20m bracket.

My preference would Jose Louis Gaya. The boy looks very impressive indeed. Watched a lit of him last season on TV.

I think he and Bellerby could be the future Spanish 1st team for years to come. And having them playing together for us would be a real coup.

If nor Lucks Digne. He would be tougher to get.

Excited to say the least!

And I am sure Chris would enjoy meeting us all, and we him.

I know I would enjoy putting faces to you all. :)

G62.

This sounds like something that might be growing legs.

When would be best to maybe do it. After the season has started, or before it starts anew?

And I would be happy to accept a drink or two in return, Thank you.

Let me see when I might be able to get a weekend day free.

I'll update everyone then and see who is up for it.

Badger, let the banter commence and looking forward to some agreeing to disagreeing, or who knows, maybe agreeing once or twice. ;)

The fun is in the enjoyment that the banter creates.

G62, Dags, I think I am going to be back a little more this year, the Mancs migrating looks like a good year ahead.

Badger, I agree about the nouveau rich needing to be put back in the box.

If Cech is allowed to leave to Arsenal by Agronomic then he has shown some real class by keeping his promise. He will have earned my respect.

The gutter snipe Mourinho, a completely different view. A winner he may well be, but class he will never have. He is solely focused on himself, and how he is seen.

As you may have got, I dislike him intensely. I have come across a few similar in business.

A word on your team. I think Man U will be a very different team next season. Van Haal is a strong and very good manager. He will recruit well, have the team playing his formation and tactics. I think Depay could be a real talent. He and a second season Di Maria are a frighteningly scarey prospect. I think RVP needs to go. If I was you I would swap Rooney for Cavani, then go get a Defensive midfielder such as Schneiderlin, and Gooners I think we need Carvalho not Schneiderlin. I think we need a second Coquelin, the rest of our midfield is fantastic.

A centre back or two and a new right back and your talking.

Anyway, time will tell and it is only my initial opinion. :)

Jin I'm away just for a couple of weeks in the run up to the season so soon into it would suit me best mate if that's OK with everyone else, fist week in October might be good if CTR Honey Rosie etc are thinking of joining us, OK we probably won't all get tickets for the game but I'm sure those who can't could watch the game in a local pub and those who can could join up after the game , just an idea Everyone?

Let's hope we continue to buy class, but astutely, as we have done the last few seasons.

Morning all.

Hope the week starts well for everyone.

The Benzema to Arsenal rumours seem to be gathering a little momentum, although seems this is based upon Aguero to Man City. Who knows, but if it happened I would be a happy man.

Is Jackson Martinez the backup? Wouldn't be too unhappy with him either, although Benzema has achieved more in stronger competitions in my eyes. Would be interested in others opinions.

And Giani Imbula or William Carvahlo? Tough choice, either one looks good, but will they cut it in the Premier League with Arsenal?

I was interested to read that Liverpool are interested in Illaramendi @ £15m. At that price, wouldn't he be worth a look at in CDM? Seems cheap for a player of his talent.

I would have thought that Illaramendi would be a good fit for Man U.

Anyway, must get back to some work.

G62 and Dags, I am trying to sort out some tickets for the first game of the season against West Ham. Will either of you be going?

Respect to all.

J

{Ed001's Note - Aguero to Man City? Seems unlikely to me, I doubt they will ever sign a player as good as Aguero...... =op

22 Jun 2015 10:27:32
Sorry Ed001.

Meant Aguero from Man City to Real Madrid.

Just me trying to type too quickly whilst I am at work.

{Ed001's Note - I know mate, I was tempted to edit it for you, but where would be the fun in that? Typos are something we all make, and it is great for banter. One of the longest running jokes on the Liverpool site originated from Kun Aguero being typoed as Ken Aguero. There are still the odd sightings of Ken in the Liverpool area trying to negotiate a deal for a transfer to join.}

22 Jun 2015 10:36:52
Lets be honest Ed001, it is probably more possible for Ken to accept a contract at Liverpool than a lot of the players they are being aligned with.

I actually feel sorry for Liverpool, I think Brendan Rodgers is definitely not the man they need at the helm. He is a Mourihno clone without the ability, and he has seemingly only damaged Liverpool rather than elevated them.

They are a club with passion and a legacy and I fear Brendan is the man to take them further on a slide.

But who knows, maybe Ken Aguero is the man to save them?

:D

J

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I hear his wage demands have scuppered it, he wanted the living wage but Liverpool refuse to meet that and offered him a minimum wage instead. I mean it is not like Premier League clubs have just signed a huge new TV deal or anything, it is no wonder only Chelsea are signed up to pay a living wage to their employees really. Money is tight in the Prem after all.

And I agree totally on Rodgers, the biggest mistake of the summer is not sacking him.}

22 Jun 2015 10:46:43
I am with you on the biggest mistake of the summer so far being not sacking him, especially when people like Ancelotti were available.

It is times like this that one feels sorry for fans, such as the Liverpool fans. I hope he is the first to fall this season. Liverpool deserve better.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sometimes it makes you wonder about this world, when clearly inept people are able to reach such positions of prominence!}

22 Jun 2015 10:57:59
ED001,

It is no different to the Business World. I regularly meet people and think, "how did you get to where you have got to, and do the people who have put you there really understand your lack of ability?"

It just shows that common sense aligned to intelligence really isn't always something in evidence!.

J

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - very true, it seems to about being able to talk a lot of crap with confidence so people believe you are telling them something profound that is just going over their head.}

22 Jun 2015 13:09:29
i think there is a name for that Ed001..its called politicians...

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 17:16:48
The phrase you're looking for is 'The Peter Principle'.
The Peter Principle is a theory put forward by Laurence J. Peter whereby the selection of a candidate for a position is based on the candidate's performance in their current role, rather than on abilities relevant to the intended role. Thus, employees only stop being promoted once they can no longer perform effectively, and "managers rise to the level of their incompetence."

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 08:57:34
A lot of people are shouting out for a new centre back to replace merts. Per comes in for a lot of unfair criticism on here, but the reality is, he brings composure and organisation to our back four, before he came i our defence was a mess for years. Since his arrival we've consistently had one of top three defences in the league, obviously the coming of age of koscienly has also helped, but the transformation of koscielny probably had a lot to do with the arrival of Merts

Believable1 Unbelievable1

22 Jun 2015 09:34:56
Totally agree saint, a cb is not needed and to buy someone of merts standards or better will cost stupid money as there all tied down by contracts as long as your arm.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 09:37:32
Saint I can't think of any player we have ever had who was more deserving of criticism mate, Stoke and Liverpool episodes have never been explained or apologised for so how do we know he won't duck out of a title costing headed clearance next season mate?
Even his biggest fans have to admit that is totally unacceptable surely.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't understand the suggestion that he has raised Koscielny up a level, when Koscielny was excellent long before Mertesacker signed. It is hard to see how playing alongside Mertesacker has brought it out of him, it was already there.}

22 Jun 2015 11:11:45
Me neither Ed, I also don't understand why the blokes not accountable for anything, Giroud should be so lucky

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is a good point, Giroud does seem to be the whipping boy, while Mertesacker seems to get away with a fair bit. It is odd how certain players are targets.}

22 Jun 2015 11:29:02
I feel slightly vindicated gold c after the "someone of merts standards " considering the badgering of previous post on quality CB's.

Mert has his decent moments but on the whole is a complete and utter liability he has no technical ability whatsoever.

Do you see what he's like when he gets ball in loads of space. He has the turning circle of a bus and can't even touch the ball with his weaker foot.

He's good in the air whoopsie doo. Hope Gabriel steps up

Looks as if the cech deal is going through. Is anybody worried jose is just getting us all excited only to pull the plug on the transfer last minute? This is huge for us if this go's through. Havnt seen that sort of talent in the net since the seaman days. I genuinely think we are making serious progress as a club if this happens.

Great start to the transfer window.

Its all good mourinho doesn't have that sort of power at chelsea and even if he did have I doubt very much he would use it to hurt Petr Cech.
Top marks to chelsea for rewarding Cech with the move he wants for him and his family and putting the clubs best interests 2nd for someone who's given fantastic service to their club.
For us this is a huge signing and ranks along side with Ozil and Sanchez joining us.
