EDS. It looks like Higuain is a dead loss and I haven't heard much about Morata, Martinez and Benzema this time round either.
Are we no longer interested in them.?
By the way hows the head? .
LOL.

{Ed001's Note - it's sore anyway, the missus has taken to attacking me, though she calls them accidents. I walked round the corner and she smacked me in the face with the back end of the mop a second ago. She claims that she was not even looking, but we all know women have eyes in the back of their head and that she had been lying in wait ready to smack me the second I walked round the corner....}

Let me just squash these silly rumours about shirts and numbers.
Does anybody on here really believe that the guys in the Arsenal stores know anything about whos wearing what shirt number next season. Unless its a joke I really can't believe people are posting nonsense about you can only get a number 7 Welbeck shirt and they have ordered extra letter 'P's and number '9's.
The Arsenal shops know absolutely nothing about whos coming in or out. As if the club ring them up and give them a bit of advanced insider info! I can't believe i'm actually posting this. God give me strength.

Agree mate.

I'm going to get a shirt with LANESRA 1 on the back πŸ˜ƒ.

22 Jun 2017 15:20:29
I don't think anyone believes the guys in the store know anything but if someone who works in that department has said that they have to order xyz of that letter or number that doesn't mean they know anything other than the fact they have order more of said letter. People draw there own conclusions! Wether or not I think it will lead to this player or that coming to the emirates is immaterial and like pointed out yesterday it's a rumour and I actually welcome that on here.

Hi Ed
Not a rumor more a thought
Why sign a very expensive 19 year old who's only ambition will be to move on in 2-3 years time after we have made him a better player?
Goonerbm.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - to make a profit and because he improves the team for 2-3 years.}

22 Jun 2017 10:39:36
It really is a simple as that ed. I think that it would be great for the club.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - anyway, you might be able to surround him with better talent, good enough to make him happy to stay, plus it is possible he may grow to love the club.}

22 Jun 2017 11:21:03
I honestly don't get the fans worrying about money. First we don't spend enough then we spend to much. Arsenal need to make a statement that makes people realise that we are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Would 1 super signing make the difference to Spurs last season becoming champions next season? Possibly
City? Not likely
Utd Liverpool Arsenal extremely unlikely.

We are a lot further away than that imo, for one player to make that make up for all the weaknesses that have held us back for a decade or more he needs to be better than anything we've ever had before, better than Bergkamp better than Henry better than Adams better than Ian Wright.

I just can't see how any of our single best players from the past could possibly turn our current squad into champions even if we kept Sanchez as well.
I think we are a lot further away than people realise as team, maybe not as pound for pound individuals but as a team the gap between us and a genuine title bid is huge.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2017 00:18:04
No ones suggesting that if we buy mbappe that it will bring success? That's not the point of this at all! It's intent. We have already got a decent LB for free. Maybe a few more. I don't know but you have to try or is all lost no matter what we do this summer?

Europa league, league cup and FA cup are in my opinion realistic achievable targets for our current set of to have a realistic chance of getting.
The premier league or even mounting a serious challenge for it? How is a set up that has been so exposed so many times before going to suddenly show the character and the mentality needed to run, compete and win a marathon? Why this season? What has suddenly changed?
I have for years been saying all I wanted was to see us genuinly compete in the premier league again but last season made me realize that is simply beyond the current set up at the club and if Sanchez can't drag it out of them then it probably just isn't there to be dragged out at all.
Without anything dramatically changing like a new manager with different ways views ideas or wholesale dismantling of the cosy club under the current manager why will next seasons premier league campaign be any different to the last 10?
I can't see it but mind you I don't expect Leicester to win the 2015/ 16 title or for Brexit or Trump to happen so maybe I will be wrong yet again but as we stand I just can't logically convince myself of any reason why this time will any different to the rest league wise so I'm saving all my excitement for the 3 cups rather than spend another season letting my disappointment in the league spoil the entire season for me.

My personal view is we should be looking for good solid reinforcements to bring long term competitiveness back rather than appeasement signings of big name players to please the fans but who joins us for the wrong reasons like purely financial or because they couldn't get the move they really wanted elsewhere.
I use Benzema just as an example, if Real decided to off load him this summer I'm sure Arsene and quite a few fans would be interested in us getting him but he has publicly laughed at the prospect of joining us in the past so would we really want him or be able to rely on him not thinking he was doing us a favour just by joining us.
I know it's not popular to suggest we could learn from Tottenham but their model is in my opinion the way for us to get back in the chase, let's sign players who can't believe thier luck to be joining The Arsenal rather than the other way round.

We've done that for years, bendtner, Carlos vela, Walcott, denilson, cygan etc all players for the future! It's time to buy world class players and actually compete for major titles and champions league!

Hate those collars on a football shirt

Outside of that - looks great

Shame we couldn't have the old cannon back and have it shooting a stupid bird off a ball.

22 Jun 2017 17:01:22
I think the collars are to make the guys who would like to buy a Jersey but feel they don't like shirts that look too 'sporty'. It gives it a polo-shirt look from afar.
I don't like the way the collar seems to be two different colors though.

I know people are not very optimistic about the transfer window but surely there has to be at least one huge not just big signing to appease the Wenger out mob. I know he's stubborn and people won't hold their breath but he admitted himself that the atmosphere was half the reason we sank last year and he must know that if he doesn't get the support back and quick then it will be another disappointing year. The only way to do that is bring in a blockbuster signing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Jun 2017 09:06:12
I think there is a real desire from both Arsene and possibly even more so from the club to show the fans they really are ambiotous and things won't just carry on like always.
The problem is without paying world record breaking difficult to refuse wages to tempt such a high calibre player how do we attract them?
Realistically what can we offer a player with lots of other excellent opportunities?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2017 10:22:35
G62 please don't forget we are a great club! We as fans may be disillusioned at the moment but we are still very well respected on an international level. Arsene himself is one of the most respected managers in the world and if we are looking at players like mbappe for example we can offer first team opportunity to take his game to the next level over the likes of Real Madrid for example. Established players like lewandowski are ready to play as a starter at most if not all clubs. I agree in part with your post above and feel that money could be well spent elsewhere but I think fans need appeasing first and foremost and it's primarily aimed at fans like you but I feel that some people won't be pleased what ever happens.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jun 2017 11:27:18
I totally understand what your saying Sanogo mate but I personally don't care who we sign and if they are a free transfer or a world record breaking deal to me it's all about what they do in the shirt not what name they have on the back of it.
Quick fix people pleasing doesn't usually prove to be a long term successful tactic, look at Utd fans not many still have their Falco and Di Maria shirts now and the novelty of Pogba and Ibra soon wore off as they want to be involved in the big boy races like they were under Fergie with the likes of Carrick Cleverly Welbeck and Jones.
Spending big money alone will only bring restbite not solutions to Arsene and the board only a genuine title challenge will win back real confidence in them from many fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2017 13:21:43
I agree they have to perform. But the point I'm getting at is that if Wenger buys one of the most sought after players in the world and he doesn't come good in the time before that at least he would have tried and at least vindicated his usually stance that money doesn't win things. If he buys some players of modest reputation and price then it goes wrong the lynch mob will be out and probably long before it goes wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2017 14:48:31
I think the trick is to do what you genuinely feel is right, not cheapest or most expensive to be popular, all managers should be honest with themselves in their own head and do what they truly think has the best chance to bring success.
Because if you try to people please the very people you set out to please will have a very short memory and keep thier distance as will the players you stood by if it all goes wrong, managers are paid to get it right not do what people want.
Imagine if Arsene kept Dags happy? We'd have a Charlie Austen Remy front two :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2017 15:26:02
Bloody hell G62 you sound like arsene mate. Is that not what he has done all his career? I really don't understand that you now promote the same ethos that you have been in opposition to! Arsene believes in himself and his players and always has! I have always tipped my hat to the man but have come to the conclusion that he has got it wrong in recent years and maybe he has come to that conclusion as well! Arsenal need to make a statement to players, pundits and fans alike that we are a big club with ambition and even if we pay over the odds for players we need to show that we need business if it's only for this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree SLB, arsenal need to get the fans back onside and the only way to do that is for the club to show some ambition, buy players with pedigree and ambition and at least 3 or 4 of them i say, god knows the money is there so whats he waiting for..a rainy day?, arsenal are a massive club and can attract the biggest names but cant afford to miss out on CL again this year, its a slippery slope if you do and the attraction for the top names will wane, get your finger out of your arse wenger and get in the real world i say mate..

22 Jun 2017 16:02:53
Totally ed. I think he's realised that himself. The man may be stubborn but he is not stupid and I really would have no sympathy If he has took on this new deal and tried the same BS again. If it's not broke don't fix it but I'm sure he knows it's broke so let's fix it. Fans are going on like we're an inferior club. For 20 years they have not known what an inferior club is! We are arsenal and except united and possibly Liverpool we are in the elite clubs in not just English but world football.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - your preaching to the converted there SLB..

22 Jun 2017 16:30:13
The only difference between me and Arsene is I think managers should be judged on results, that where the me and Arsene love sadly comes unstuck :-)
It's irrelevant if you spend 200 million or Β£2.50 the league table doesn't lie, finish within 3 points of the champions and it's difficult to argue the man in charge ain't up to the job and it's exactly the same in reverse if you finish way off the pace.
If it was a spending competion Benitez would still be at Liverpool and LVG at Utd while poor old Poch and Klopp out of work managers :-)
Its all about results and how many points you get in May but how happy you make people in August, admittedly Arsene hasn't been known fur achieving either for a very long time now :- (.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i get that G62 but what every fan in the country wants in august is hope, whether that means hoping for the title, top 4 or avoiding relegation, if arsenal dont spend big then hope is gone for many supporters, the time of recruiting no name french youngsters and african may come goods has to be put to bed, buy some bloody quality arsene and lose the its my way or the highway attitude, or come december the supporters will be demanding that its the highway..

22 Jun 2017 16:45:17
Converted or perverted lol πŸ˜‚.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - most would say both SLB.. :)

22 Jun 2017 17:20:48
My point g62 is that you have been critising arsene for what you now see as the way forward. Maybe now you are thinking like a manager! Wenger has bought what he feels is quality whilst paying an honest fee. That has failed and now there's talk of us breaking world records and now you say that maybe we should spend that invoice 3-4 players. He did that last year and you said STUPID . This transfer window is as much a PR stunt than anything else. Wenger has a job on this summer mate. First and foremost he has to improve the squad then he has to convince Sanchez and co that we mean business then he has to appease the fans then he has to silence the critics then he has to show the world that AFC I should the place to be. It's a nightmare and now some fans are wanting this done with the window been open a few weeks. Why have we not done any deals yet why have other teams got players and we haven't why oh why ed please tell me This please tell me that .

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2017 20:52:44
Sanogo mate if we had signed Kante in 2015 for 5 million I'd have said who? By September 2015 I'd have said what a brilliant player, now in 2017 if we signed Kante for 100 million I'd be absolutely delighted.
I don't care what their name is and I don't care if what they cost I just care what they do for us.
Personally if I was thinking like a manager with a 2 year unbreakable contract I'd spend this summer shipping out those who just haven't done the business for us and who have become way to comfortable at Arsenal even it cost me a few quid to do so, then I'd bring in the most competitive replacements I could get my hands on with the money I had left to lay really competitive mental Foundations for a real assault on the 2018 19 title.

22 Jun 2017 22:03:50
To be perfectly honest g62 best respect meant and all but you have appeared to have forgotten previous dialog to suit the narrative of this debate. I couldn't agree more with what you say but it's not the same as you have previously stated that's my point and I do understand that it's the prerogative of a football fan to be fickle but please don't piss up my back and tell me it's raining.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2017 12:49:41
Sanogo mate when Arsene got his new contract I accepted the situation for what it is as I see it, no more Wenger out just acceptance of Arsene and his squads pros and cons.
I don't really care if we pay 200 million for Mbappe it's not my dosh I just don't see anything short of a complete overhaul of the squad changing our premier league competitiveness, if you do then good for you old bean hope your right and I'm wrong, so where is problem.
