STEVE R
He hasn't gone for the same reasons as Clichy or Nasri, they were always likely to play, where will Sagna fit in?
Believable0
Unbelievable0
No way will he get in front of Zabaleta.
£150,000 per week to sit on bench and play in English cup competitions, he will hardly play in league and CL.

I do wish jackson Martinez was 3 years younger. Turn of pace, eye for goal, bullet of a shot, and an all round annoyingly tricky striker to play against. The sort that will out of the blue, bury an overhead kick when your 0-0 against crystal palace on a Monday night. Albeit in a weak league, I still feel he'd be something special with oil behind him. Just at 26 he's abit to near his prime for le prof's taste.
We can dream eh!
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Gav,
I don't think 26 is too old mate.
He's in his prime.
Agree0
Disagree0
Gav,
He eeds to be careful with oil behind him. The momentum from an overhead kick means you tend to land behind your standing position - bang in the middle of the aforementioned oil!

I will take a Cesc Fabregas over any other player in the world to play our pivot, any day any time
People forget just how good and complete of a midfielder he is
He is wasted at Barca, who like Spain, ignored everything they saw at Arsenal and made him a number 10 or false 9
Wrong! Epic fail!
He's Cesc Fabregas, the best passer of the ball in the world.
Bring him back home, they don't deserve him
Believable0
Unbelievable0
I wouldn't say no.
Apart from Ramsey, he is probably more consistent than anything we have.
Agree0
Disagree0
Agree US I think Cesc would be amazing in that role! unfortunately I think Wenger won't.
I think he is banking on the Rambo and Jack combo in the 2 midfield positions. Can it work?

Someone posted a while ago as to whether players now play for the club or for the money.
Man City may have won the Premier League but apart from that I think you now have your answer with Sagna.
You know how it goes by now " Money talks. Bull S*%$ Walks.

Ive seen Barcelona are likely to sell the likes of Fabregas, Mascherano, Pedro and Sanchez. With Arsenal likely favourites to get Fabregas, and hopefully for around £35 million. I also think maybe Mascherano would be a good buy, and maybe sell Vermaelen.
Also with players like Walcott and Chamberlain being injured for long periods of time I think Pedro would be a good signing. Personally, I think Di Maria would be better but that's unlikely.
Obviously with Sagna and Fabianksi close to the end of contract, Aurier seems like the most likely placement for a cheap price of £7million. I've also seen us being linked to Cardiff keeper Marshall.
Finally, we need a striker. Benzema would be good but I would hate arsenal to pay £40million. A player like Jackson Martinez would be perfect, someone who can pick the ball up and run at defenders with pace.
Believable0
Unbelievable0
I'd happily take Fab, Mash and Sanchez.

as much as i'd love benzema I just don't think for the good of arsenal and the french national team he would sign benzema or even remy for that matter. basically we both play with one up front and whoever he plays will prob get picked for internationals I just see it being a tad too much both giroud and benzema are now too big to be in direct competition at the same club. it might really get the best out of both of them but if it goes t*ts up it could be catrastrophic for moral. I think it will either be ntep, the batshayi or morata with giroud and bamby on ice next season!
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Thats a keen observation kcider,
For me he's always been over rated,
Granted he may be better than Giroud but I wouldn't want him for more than £20m, with maybe £5m in add-ons for goals/app's

So Sagna has a medical at M City and is about to be offered £150k a week, the same as what we offered him, yet he goes to City, work that out.
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Banbury mate he's going for the same reason all the others have.
Agree0
Disagree0
They most probs. offered a fair chunk of a signing on fee aswell. No way we would have offered 150k to Sagna to be the highest paid on our books as RB of 31, I think the figure we offered was more around the 100k Mark for experienced servant.
The Aurier chap sounds decent and will be a lot cheaper on the wages front more likely around 50-60k max.
Agree0
Disagree0
Ozil gets less than that, no way we were going to pay sagna that
Agree0
Disagree0
22 May 2014 22:09:41
Banbury mate, we don't know if Sagna was ever offered £150k p/w by us neither can we confirm what Man C have offered. But if you read what's in the papers all the time then our 'supposed' offer of £150k would almost be on par with Mesut Ozil's wage packet. Are we then saying Sagna is worthy of Ozil's wage and should be paid more handsomely than some of our other players who have recently extended their contracts?
Sagna has been our best RB for many years and is a warrior but come on at 31.
Agree0
Disagree0
There is not a chance we offered him 150k per week. Max 100k.
Agree0
Disagree0
We did actually guys, that is what it worked out at, he was out of contract and was / is walking out on a free.
Agree0

I've never read above 80k, which seems realistic in what we might offer, particularly later in negotiations

Lots of talk of blank cheque books and board members coming out and saying, "we've always backed Wenger. " Or "We can sign anyone bar Messi, Ronaldo or Bale"
So, Wenger only likes to buy 2-3 players.
You can sign three players (money no object but realistic)
For me:
Benzema
Di Maria
Gundagon
This doesn't equate Sagna and Fabianski leaving as Wenger will replace those two and say that doesn't count!
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Money no object i'd take el sharawy, draxler and pogba
Agree0

Sounds good to me Greeny.
Will also throw Remy in there too, lol

If we buy remy we would not need the other two, he would have qualities of 3 players, hence I would want 3 quantity signings over 1 quality remy signing.

Ive been looking on this site a few years and love it, just started posting and feel like I know all the regular names of the guys, Dags, Larker, Banbury, G62 and Jenny etc, one big happy Gooner family!
We all think we can second guess Wenger on signings so how about a competition, we all choose 5 signings plus one thinking outside the box choice who we think we will sign before the deadline. 1 point per correct and 3 for the outside the box choice. Winner announced end of window?
what do you think?

Afternoon all.
Hi to the Eds.
Hope everyone is well (DG, Laker, Akie, G62, St Arsenal, Flybo - good to see you back, Jenny, USG and anyone I forgot)
I have beenvreading all this £100m spend etc etc and I just wanted to put what I have been thinking down.
Firstly, we need a defensive midfielder. We all know that, Bender would be great but schneiderlin wouldn't be too bad. I would really want Gonalons, who it seems it has all gone quiet on.
Wingers, we need a left one, Draxler, yes please but Griezmann would be perfect. But why not Vela on the left? Cheap. Knows what he walked away from. Now seems more professional and has definitely grown up. Bring in Griezmann and let the two of them fight it out. Not going to cost a huge amount.
Right back Aurier. Kid looks class and will get better.
Where things become interesting is the right. Walcott definitely, Gnarbry, why not? but everyone seems to be forgetting Joel Campbell. Who Arsene said earlier in the year is in his plans for next year when asked in March 2014. And that boy is a winger!
I would like Bruno Martins Indi as the new CB. His team mate whose name I have just forgot, both of them look pretty good and that they could make it in the PL.
These changes would leave Podolski free to go up front. Or Walcott to have a go down the centre.
Therefore maybe 1 striker only required.
I still think we need a left back but nit sure who yet. If we can get Jordi Clasie then get him, but also bring Zelalem through.
I really don't think we need to spend as much as people make out and I think we may be able to afford a Benzene or a Bender.
Would love to know what others think.
Lovely all.

With Rambo and Cesc plus Jack - do we need Cesc. I like the way both Jack and Rambo speed our game up. Cesc slowed it down a little plus we have Ozil.
Love Cesc but not sure we need him as much as we do investment elsewhere

Ed do you expect joel campbell to play a part in next season or do you think he will be loaned out, because i'm wondering if he will make up the fourth spot of the strikers along with giroud and sanogo and possible (big money striker). also staying with the theme of strikers will chuba Akpom be given a first team opportunity or will he be loaned out?

"If I have to return, I will do things in a different way, " he said.
"What happened in the past will not be repeated."
Vela, who scored a hat-trick on his full debut - as part of the Gunners youngest-ever side that beat Sheffield United 6-0 in the League Cup - is hoping that a deal can be thrashed out which would suit all parties.
"We will try and reach an agreement in which we all win - Real, Arsenal and me. We must see what can be done, " he said.
"We will decide what will be my future, it is all about finding the best way to be happy."
He makes it sound like a deal is already happening. Eds?

What's the deal with Viviano? We got him on loan with the option to buy if I'm not mistaken.
Are we going to go through with the purchase now the Fab is heading off? And doesn't anyone think that he'd actually want to stay after getting no game time at all?
Just for the sake of depth in the squad I hope we get this tied up soon.

Righto, I know Arsene has been reading this site every day, waiting for my suggestions on signings.
1. Aurier 10m. He'll be a star, Mark my words.
2. Gundogan 30m. Exactly what we need, strong defensively, great vision, pace, skill, discipline.
3. Greizman 15m. Use Vela to land this guy, he will set the Emirates alight.
4. El Shawaary 35m. Can't believe he's only 21, proven goalscorer, along with Greizmann and Theo, will transform us into one of the most pacy and skillful front 3rd in Europe.
We'll also need to replace Vermaelen, Martin's Indi is a potential beast.
So, there you go Arsene old mate, all for less than 100m. Loic Remy for 10m is good business too, but only as a squad player, same with Milner, especially if we lose guys like Podolski and Arteta. Might be worth bringing in Bastuashyi (spelling), if the price is right, although we do have Joel Campbell. Depth is key for a title run and CL push.
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Not bad shouts there Outback.although even with our option on Vela I would be surprised to see RS let Greizman go for just £15m. I reckon at that price there would be a lot of clubs lining up.
Agree0
Disagree0
From what I have been reading on this site.
1)Aurier - let's hope he gets done soon, RB short already.
2)I doubt gundogan is for sale, and even if he is, considering his current year on the medical table, I think he should be the last player we look at, considering our relationship with the same table.
3) Griezmann, has been followed by some of the biggest clubs, and like Arsenal will be a fall back option once the more established wingers are taken off the market, like Di maria and Sanchez to name a few.
4) El Sharawaay, well again from this site itself, I have read of interest from PSG and Chelsea, and i'm sure Arsenal has an interst aswell, but it again goes by the Griezmann theory, once the big dogs are fed like Benzema, Suarez, Aguero, Cavani, Martinez, Balotelli and so on, then the likes of sharaway will be the option, but also from what I have read, its looking likely that milan do not want to do any deals to sell him and he seems happy in Milan.
So while I think you have very good judgement, the transfermarket poker players dont, and it will all come down to the last bluff.
Agree0
Disagree0
Good post Laker, totally agree mate.
Agree0
Disagree0
I agree with you Laker, but that's why I think we could go for them. Dortmund played basically the season without Gundogan, so they may be comfortable cashing in now, plus, his injury may mean no interest from big clubs, he's a risk, but Wenger is an admirer and he's tailor made for our needs, when fit. Griezman will be available and your point about the other wingers available should give us a good chance, especially with the Vela situation. Once again, spot on with El Shawaary, other big names available plus the injury should leave him available, we've made enquiries on him before. Having said all this, I'd be very happy with Martinez, Vela and Schneiderlin instead!
Agree0
Disagree0
22 May 2014 12:55:21
Given Wenger's reluctance to buy too many players during one window or pay over the odds, I'm going to predict a realistic yet also satisfying window for us.
Winger - I don't think we'll get one. We have greater needs elsewhere, Wenger likes to put midfielders to wide positions, We have Walcott and Podolski and I think Gnabry will be played more.
Striker - Benzema. We've been linked with him for ages. Real wants a new striker and he has only one year left.
Right back - Aurier. I can't see Sagna staying and honestly that's fine for me. It's time to move on with him. Aurier won't be an automatic starter though, I expect Jenkinson to raise his level as well.
Midfielder - Schneiderlin. Can't see Bender coming unfortunately, neither Martinez or Gundogan. But Schneiderlin is just as good and exactly what we need.
Goalkeeper - I expect an experienced and cheap back-up to be signed. I just heard something about David Marshall being a possibility.
Center back - Miquel. He'd be a 4th choice. Ideally I'd sign someone to rival Mertesacker or Koscielny but we're already going to sign 4-5 players so I can't see it happening.
This should be financially possible and I can see all the players being "available". I expect us to keep Podolski and Vermaelen, but if they leave then of course we have to replace them too.
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Agree but I think miquel will move on in the summer
Agree0

Great choices and realistic! I personally think Richards is a better option at RB he can play CB also and leaves room for Jenks to come through! Would be great to see a brit such as Marshall or Ruddy to be back up to Schez.

Gnabry is ready for a break out year, we won't be able to hold back much longer.

Hi eds,
So, I've read that we may be in for Gundogan, any truth? Also, I've read El Shawaary may be available, can you see the Gunners making another enquiry there? Both have missed almost the entire season through injury, so they'll fit right in at the Gunners *sigh*. Seriously though, we may have a relatively clear run at them due to their injuries and I doubt anyone would question their quality.

Thanks ed001, I realised that the minute after I hit send! I put a comment on it now. So, just to clarify, the photo shows that I'm a professional pirate, who uses trained crocodiles to plunder unsuspecting fishermen, obviously.

Dags imagine sitting in front of the tv as a 11 year old, in 1996 and listening to absolute garbage smack talk. hilarious, I took up the guitar only because of his musical parodies.
dont watch it no more, but great memories of the absolute mayhem when I did.

I would love us to make the following, possible signings:
1) Begovic - Excellent keeper
2) Micah Richards - Good replacement for Sagna
3) Ashley Cole = would be a great influence on Gibbs
4) Pogba - break the bank
5) Mascherano
6) Balotelli
7) John Stones
To accommodate these, I would sell/release:
1) Fabianski & Viviano
2) Sagna
3) Monreal
4) Bendtner, Park & other fringe players
Nothing like this will happen! We will get:
1) A low cost or free keeper
2) A RB costing less than £10m or Jenkinson & Bellerin
3) A forward costing approx £20m
4) A replacement for Vermaelen, if he leaves, spending no more than we receive for him.
Wenger will look to bring more young players through, such as Bellerin, Zelalem, Gnabry, etc.

A low cost keeper-Ruddy (keeps Schez on his toes and a great back up at 3-5mil)
A RB costing under 10mil-Richards (can cover CB, if Verm goes gives more game time to Jenks & Bellerin and promote Miquel to 4th CB)
A forward costing 20mil-Remy (Good pace good finishing 12mil release fee?)
Grand total:
5mil Ruddy
8mil Richards
12mil Remy
Then break the bank for Bender and Greizman at 25mil each and that would be a very productive summer IMO!

Wow. You wanna bring Cashley cole back? For real? what about Van Persie and Nasri too?
An to top it off you want Arsenal to sign the biggest Dramaqueen in football aka Balotelli? Arsene has talked a lot about how the teamspirit and togetherness have a great influence on the club and players and Balotelli would straight out ruin it.(and he isn't that good anyway)
I do hope that we'll some players who'll be a part of the team not think them selves as above the team.

Living in Norwich, I can tell you that ruddy will only be sold for around 10 mill, not the 5 mill suggested

Good to see my earlier post about Fabregas creating a bit of banter as this is what this site is all about.
Here's another one for you.
Who has left Arsenal and become a better player?
Ashley Cole is one who springs to mind but after that I am racking my brains to think of another though I'm sure there are a few more.
The point I'm making is, like him or loathe him, AW is a smart cookie when it comes to selling players or letting them go.

On the great to spend big on proven quality or spend little on potential debate this summer, in the modern game has.anyone won a tittle without signing some established international players?
Bergkamp and Campbell worth both well established and proven players when they came to us and although Bergy wasn't a massive success in Italy he wasn't exactly an unknown gamble, Sol was a free transfer but very much an in demand one.
I'm all for home grown players our list under Arsene is endless as are his bargain buys but we will always be just one or two players short of a tittle unless we are prepared to do what it takes as and when necessary to buy qaulity and pay what it takes.
We are a striker and DMF short in my opinion and if we gamble on bargains or home grown by the time we find them we will be two or three short else where in the team.
Just my opinion but bargain shopping is brilliant but if you want to win best dressed year after year you have to be prepared to pay for stuff at some piont

i don't know why people saying richards or anyone else over aurier, this guy was the best RB in the french league and his only 22, has amazing crossing and is much better than a player that can't get a game at man city, we all know richards had his days, so did diaby, lmao, Aurier would be a amazing signing, best RB we could get in this market can't think of anyone better at his age, and sometimes I also think I would be the best manager ever for arsenal, meet all fans needs, for me I would sign (Arsenal Budget Players) ;),
GK - Anyone to give szecseny competition, szecseny should always be NO1 I love him, his so good IMO also young :)
RB - Aurier
CB - Caulker/inigo martinez
CDM - Morgan schneiderlin/Bender
LW - antoine griezmann/pedro/sanchez/di maria
ST - REMY & BONY/Balotelli
This is my opinion on turning our squad into a team that can make history , is it just me that thinks that I could one day be a really good manager, or does everyone else agree, :) should A.Wenger sign me up so I can help them get the right players into the team, (PLAYERS that fans fan to see)
I would really appriciate a lot of feedback, because i'm a die hard arsenal fan, never miss a game, watch all away games on tv (foregin channles haha ), thanks alot

Ramin all agree but not sure on bony & Remy, I have said before we have had 3 opportunities to sign remy when we needed a striker but never had so can't see it. I would like sanchez as cf with either di maria or griezman as lw.

Stick to the day job ramin. We all think we can be managers. We'd all probably achieve relegation except dags he'll be busy selling remy to real madrid. He his agent don't you know.

All this rubbish about Fabregas "oh let him come back"
Get real everyone. Don't you all remember "his injury" prior to leaving us. If you don't want to play for Arsenal [expletive] off. Never take an old bird back. Who is is he going to replace? Ramsey, Ox or Wilshere no, I don't care where you go Fabregas, you left us and stay away.
Now for Son-no-goal. FFS if he was playing for any other team we would be ripping the s**t out of them. He is awful. Take your rose tinted glasses off guys.
Now for a happy Old Ignatian!
I truly believe even if we only replace what goes out, we will win the league next season. 7 points behind that's not a million miles away.
Then if AW strengthens the team with 2 to 3 players of top draw quality then we will have the league in the bag by Easter.
Be lucky

Top post!
I expect to see Fabianski, Sagna, Vermaelen, Arteta/Flamini, Podolski, Bendtner, Sanogo all to leave.
If they were all to be suitably replaced, we would win the title. Add an extra couple of players and we could challenge on all fronts.
Last summer was really the chance to go out big and we didn't, so we must this year. I expect to see City Chelsea, Liverpool and in a particularly United to spend a lot this summer.
We cannot be left behind.
P.S. What's the delay in AW signing his contract? All seems very strange.

I'm the first to point out when a player loves our club.
i wouldn't have a go at any player for making a move for themselves for the club they grew up supporting.
why do all the over 40's arsenal fans always bang on about how cesc left us?
this isn't 1965 boys, the world is smaller.
now i'm not saying cesc jumps back into our team, far from it (bench warmer inpace of mikel imho)
but its like he literally wiped his poop stained draws with the arsenal crest, and then decided to put the live video of it on the arsenal player.
the boy LOVED barca, he was bought by a club who he also fell for, but then the club he originally loved, wants him. what would you do?!?
Agree0
Disagree0
No way would I want Fabregas to return. He cunningly engineered a move, when he had 3 years left on his deal, whilst captain and telling us how much he loves the club.
On the playing side, I felt he was overated. He was not the quickest of players & to get the best out of him the ball has to go through him and the team set up accordingly. Clearly Barca & their fans agree, hence the desire to sell.

Old ignatian is banging on about cesc leaving us for barca, at that time the biggest club in the world and his boyhood club.
was I happy the way he left us, hell to the no.
but if you put yourself in the same situation, and you played at barca and were a boyhood arsenal fan, they were breaking records and they want you, what would you do?
Im more pissed off that patrick viera is at man city, and making statements against us in recent years. but then again he gets paid well, don't bite the hand that feeds.
look in not against cesc coming back, ideally I would want him to stay, so that we don't have to make a move for him, as I really don't want him to go to man utd.
as far as kroos is concerned, if he is made available, the likes of barca are more appealing to man utd, however I don't see bayern letting him go, maybe on a free next year, and try to negotiate a contract thru the year.

@Lakerville Good post and a few good points.
I find it bizarre PV is at Citeh and not Arsenal. Manchester United are involving the Class of 92 in their future planning, I have no doubt Lampard and Terry will be involved with Chelsea after their playing days are over. Why do Arsenal not utilise the talents of their former greats? Seaman, Campbell, Viera, Pires and Henry* should all be involved in the coaching/management set up at Arsenal.
*Once playing days are over.
On the Fab debate, I'd have him back in a heartbeat. Ozil, Fabregas, Cazorla/Walcott/Podolski/Ox/Rosicky/Gnabry looks a pretty awesome offensive line up.
It won't happen though. Fab is the natural successor to Xavi. He will stay and become the main man.

Such a stupid post. Cesc would be welcome back by many he left for his boyhood club. A club he loved and he left whilst being respectful. And as for the sanago slagging off he is 21! So young and room for improvement. He does need to improve a lot but he puts himself about and tries. Give him time. So many players have poor first seasons

D16 I hope sanogo rams all the personic quotes back down the throats of all the posters who have slagged a young kid off and he proves them all wrong in their opinions. Probably the same people who slagged ramsey off and are now saying, I told you he'd be great.

still celebrating in the dressing room after we won the facup final.
