Seems the good vibes are coming back, this could be the lift the players need after a few years of same old same old.

It's been intersting past few weeks with so many managers linked with Arsenal. I will only believe we have hired Emery once it's on club's website.

I never saw Allegri or Simone happening as they are with better teams who are winning trophies. Arsenal doesn't offer them money and control to transform our team into European elite.

Arteta was an interesting one but I had reservations, as in past number 2 coaches haven't worked out well. Ex Clement at Swansea. He was Ancelotti's assistant at Real Madrid but didn't do that great with Swans.

Personally I'm happy with Emery coming to Emirates. He is a big name coach with experience and trophies. He has experience with clubs (PSG, Sevilla, Valencia) which are more or less on same level as Arsenal. He can work with a tight budget, is more of a coach than a manager and willing to accept the new structure at Arsenal. He promotes youth. We can only judge him after the season and what type of backing he receives from the board and players.

- He needs to find the real leaders in the team who will execute his plans on the field. We haven't had a real captain in past 5-7 years.

- He needs to be strong enough to move or bench players who aren't putting 100% on field and training

- He needs to quickly adapt to Premier league as expectations will be set after a disappointing season. Media will be very closely watching him and doing comparisons to Wenger.

- He needs to inject fresh blood in squad and move deadwood out

- Last but not the least, we supporters need to back him 100%

All in all exciting and nervous times ahead for all Gooners.

If we do get emery I'd be one happy gunner I like this guys style of play and he gets the team to defend well.

Ed01 if your about mate. Love to hear your opinion on Emery. Obviously been trawling the net and looking into Emery more and am thinking this is actually a good appointment! I am getting the opinion he’s is defensively better than most and likes attacking football. So with a few changes to the defenders, gk and cmf/ dmf do you think we will have a better season next season and what’s your general opinion of him in general and pending official statement do you think Arsenal have acted wisely?

Cheers in advance SLB.

{Ed001's Note - he tends to do better with smaller budgets and players with less ego, he struggles to deal with egos as his management style is like a cross between LVG and Rafa Benitez. He has that obsession with wanting players to put in homework watching videos, hours and hours of them, and focusing on the opposition rather than his own team. His teams do play some good football but it is on the defensive side. Short term I would say he would be a good change to Wenger but long term players get tired of the work he expects them to put in. That is why you will either need to recruit specifically the players that respond to his style or be prepared for lots of ins and outs as players will not stay long.}

22 May 2018 18:49:38
Early days with aubameyang ed and so far he seems to be a fun guy to have around if you know what I mean. With time do you think he will become problematic?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he certainly has been in the past, which is why he has never been able to get that big move he kept begging for. Not a dig at Arsenal but he was after a move to Real Madrid or Barca but they had no interest in him and he pretty much destroyed all his options with wage demands etc.}

22 May 2018 19:10:55
Well let’s hope he gets his head down and arse up as he clearly is a very dangerous player. I hope he understands his situation and it’s catch 22, play well get paid more, given his age I think that he will have to accept that his last quality days are with us.

22 May 2018 23:55:20
Sanogo i think auba will get along well with unai emery. I mean he got along with tuchel who was tactically obsessive with videos and stuff. Emery is the same in that respect so it won't be something new for him. The other players may be in for a shock though.

Banbury and Derby gooner. To answer the first question, we need about 5/ 6. There's been a few injury's and other commitments that have ruled people out. And Derby, there's people from 20 to 50 years old. Even a couple flying in from abroad. Would be great if you two could play, just give me a text 07719565417. All in aid of two great causes.

Is anyone else still expecting to wake up tomorrow and read its someone else again? 😂 I would be really interested to know how many of the stories had any basis in fact and how many were just chancers knowing they could make anything up without any repercussions!

I remember stories linking us to absolutely everyone except the guy we are actually going to get! Massive fail by the media! 😂.

22 May 2018 13:20:59
Haven't the club done brilliantly in keeping things private and dignified, no fuss no pantomime from within they just let the media circus get on with what they do and concentrated on the Job on hand and what was best for Arsenal.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 May 2018 15:23:33
They have, I didn't see him anywhere in the odds, I would like to know if the odds had any basis in fact or just betting companies hoping for some takers? Because they were miles off and changed daily and I can't understand how they changed so often.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - my friend comes from a family of bookmakers and he used to regularly ask me for help when setting odds, when I was in the UK. They are extremely well connected in the world of horse racing, but bookies just set the initial odds out of partial guesswork and then the odds will change based on how much is wagered on that possibility.}

22 May 2018 16:34:36
Don't they sometimes create a false favourite too Ed in order to try and attract money in a direction where they are unlikely to have to pay out.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - if they do they would be breaking the law mate. I am sure it happens, but they shouldn't do it. That is why SSN is so shady and has been investigated so many times, as they will 'report' that so-and-so is in the running for a job and that stirs up a market they can then offer odds on through Slybet.}

22 May 2018 17:17:35
I can’t seem to find the post but 2-3 weeks ago you said in reply to someone that you expect it to be emery and also out of who’s left you think that is the most sensible option.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 May 2018 02:57:46
Thanks Ed, yes sky certainly looked dodgy to me during this whole saga! Do many people bet on new managers? It seems an odd thing to bet on. If they do betting companies must of made a killing! Ever changing favourites and the one that came in was barely in the running!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - apparently it is a growing betting market. The amount of hype and talk you see online and on TV helps build it up.}

23 May 2018 19:14:33
i thought it looked dodgy, sky would run a story about someone random: ralf ragnick, buvac stand out and then they would pe positioned as favourite.

What are we thinking of the new kits? I am not a fan tbh. It looks so weird with the big open neckline and just odd with the way the red stops for the straight white shoulders. And what's with the faint white triangle on the chest? I've really liked Puma kits so far, boooooo. So excited for the new season with Emery and some new additions however :)

Kalidou Koulibaly is a player we need at Arsenal 100%. Koulibaly with Sokratis, Bellerin and Kolasinac. Emery likes his 4-2-3-1 and possibly 4-3-3 so I don't see him playing with 5 at the back. He may even want to sell a CB as crazy at that sounds but Chambers, Mustafi, Kos, Holding and Mavropanos will then be too many! Mav. Holding and Chambers will be brilliant under the right coach imo!

Bro Chambers is just straight up shocking no? Get him as far away from the club as possible I say 😬.

I have to say that Emery was never in my list to replace Arsene because even though he was between, clubs he never came to mind. I think he is a solid choice still a gamble but so would be any new manager. I was of the opinion early yesterday that the club were making a pigs ear of it but according to some sources he was interviewed 2wks back and gave a very impressive performance.
So he is in the chair Gooners and we need to play our part and give him and the squad all our backing.
As for Arteta I think he his obviously highly regarded by Pep and if he is as good as Pep says he is his time will come.
So I going to sit back enjoy the summer see who we sign who we sell and cheer on England at the World Cup.
And last but not least to Santi thanks for the memories mate I wish you all the best.

Emery appears to have many of the attributes necessary to be our next manager. He is at a good age in his mid-40's, with experience and is a trophy winner. I like his tactics, attention to detail and the fact he is a good coach, which is exactly what we need. His record as a manager will command the respect of the players and fans alike.
Of the mangers available of his calibre he seems an excellent choice.
Arteta would have been a very brave and risky choice, with no experience whatsover of managing, never mind undertaking the complex job of replacing Wenger.
I am excited to see who we will sign and how we will change tactically. Especially from the defensive point of view, which has been lacking for over a decade. 23 days to the Wolrd Cup and then the new season in August, a great summer of football and an exciting new era at Arsenal. Well done to Gazidis and the board for taking their time and all being well appointing Emery as Manager.

Totally agree mate, the club gets a lot of stick quite often well deserved but they have done extremely well here and are showing some real footballing ambition at last not only with this appointment but with the Sven men too.
Credit where it's due and we all have a reason to be excited again:-) .
I'm really looking forward to this transfer window and then the new season, everything is once again possible and although it won't happen overnight in now truly feel we are on the way back.

Really hope Emery is confirmed! It didn't make any sense to be clearing out the back room staff for Arteta. None of us knew what was going on and I think the club used Arteta and Henry as smoke screens to get who they want. It is how we do and should do business. I am 100 per cent behind this appointment should it happen and the only person i can find who is against it is Punani but then mate you called two time possibly three time Champions League winning manager Zidane a " Rookie " . I'm happy 😊 COYG or YAABILY.

My daughter was sick yesterday, so I couldn't get much on the hype with Emery's news until now.
It's look like the board had to save the day after making a mess out of it.
I'm happy with our new coach and very excited to see what he can do for us.
We don't get our self a Pep, a Klopp, a Mou or a Conte. Emery it's not a fancy chose, but he is a dedicated worker and passionated for what he do. Perfect to steady the ship right now.
Let's not forget that we are 6th now and no UCL for two years in a row. I think we get our self the best possible deal in this situation, far superior that any high potential but inexperienced option.
Kudos to g62, who in my despair over Arteta's confirmation, warn me not believe everything I read.

Hi fidelo hope your little girl is feeling better today mate.
We've all fell for the media hit seekers in the past but a couple of years ago I came to the conclusion if Ornstein and the Eds don't know about the anything it's highly unlikely the tabloids hit needers do either so there for it has to be a load of benzema.
If there is any substance to a story then the reliable sources will be talking about it.
if Ornstein and the Eds are saying it then I listen and if the bbc main football page are reporting on it then there is definitely something happening in my experience.
