Evening all!

Regretting us not signing Williams ( not sure if he would have joined us ) as his leadership and defensive quality would have been very useful against Pool plus we could have rested Kos against Leicester but mainly as he looks a steal at 13m!

On strikers - do you think we may see Remy is our colours this season? Could Hernandez give us another option up front and something different?

I know Remy has been poor at Chelsea but not really given a chance and he did pretty well before then.

SY4,

You sound like me :-)

Go Remy.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Aug 2016 23:00:48
Yeah I mentioned before we missed a trick with Williams, yes he is over 30 but in today's crazy market 13 Million for his level of experience and leadership is a real steal. Everton did well there.

Sometime Arsene needs to ralise you cant't make profit on every buy and this nonsense about a player must having a sell on value is just silly when about the value added to the team no matter the age.

A Striker I seriously doubt will happen now unless there is some late movement elsewhere freeing up some strikers. Remy No way but Hernandez would not be bad shout. What we really need though is a upgrade (Or at least real competition) on Giroud and proper big strong leading line forward.

Hernandez has just broken his hand so that could stop that deal!

Agree0 Disagree1

24 Aug 2016 13:53:46
As long as he is not a keeper MJ the broken hand shouldn't be a problem. Certainly didn't affect Vardy last year. I think we should add a condition that when we send the private jet over to germany to pick up Hernandez it should also stop and bring back a certain Mr Draxler as well. i reckon that would just about keep the faithful happy.

These 'rumours' for Griezmann actually have me laughing so much as did the Mahrez ones, what are these journos smoking.

Then there's the ones that make you cry, like jonny evans and phil jones.

So. The Ox and Theo.

Preseason, some said they should go. Many said they had potential but never have (never will? ) reached it.

Both seem to be getting the nod ahead of iwobi - definitely whilst he's injured ;)

I'm confident if they regularly start, and get a run of games (more than say 6 to get them going) both will be consistent. So.

I'm predicting 25 goals and 15 assists between them.

Anyone else want to give their thoughts now, BEFORE they dazzle? ;)

23 Aug 2016 18:07:27
For me Theo at 27 and still has a huge? And wouldn't still be at utd city Chelsea Spurs Everton or West Ham after 10 seasons of unconvincing form.
Ox is 5 years younger as has done well in the past and nly last season has he looked extremely poor.
To me Ox might yet go on to be a top performer but it's difficult to see why things would after all these years suddenly click for Theo.

Agree6 Disagree1

23 Aug 2016 18:34:24
Yes I'd like to say get a winger in instead :)

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Aug 2016 18:15:27
i think I'd rather have Ox playing than Theo.
For me, Ox can produce more on his day, than Theo.
A run in the team could see him hit form.

That said, i honestly wouldn't be shocked if we panic, go balls to the wall for James Rodriguez and play him on the left or the right and play Alexis on the other side.

Agree1 Disagree5

23 Aug 2016 19:02:36
Theo has been here too long and shown nothing no room for sentiment but that's Arsenes middle name.

Agree2 Disagree5

23 Aug 2016 19:22:07
The question is a bit irrelevant Jim because neither of them will stay fit.

Agree3 Disagree1

23 Aug 2016 20:47:26
Theo fro me just has not got at the highest level. He is 27 now and should be in his prime he has not got the attributes to be a top class CF he wants to be. As a wide attacker/ winger he has his good moments but lacks a trick to be top winger either for me. Ox difficult to see if he will ultimately make it with us or not. His best position is CAM but with Ozil holding that position will he get enough games in-between injuries to get any sort of consistent form going. He has talent and still quite young so still has time.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Aug 2016 21:25:42
Theo has the talent but he just doesn't have the mentality to make it to the top of the game, he's not alone there Jack Rodwell is another of many very talented young players who start well but just don't have the whole package needed.

Agree0 Disagree1

24 Aug 2016 00:49:42

Hi All,

Always reading posts everyday but haven't posted for a long time.

I have a theory regarding lack of Transfer activity.

Could it be because the board have it already confirmed that this will be AW final season and are holding back funds for the new manager next year.

Or perhaps they have already agreed with the new manager that a certain amount will be available!

Just a thought, could be wrong.

finally Ed's keep up the good work and you might want a couple of days off beginning of September if we still haven't signed anyone.

23 Aug 2016 17:29:19
Unless he's been gathering a big budget over the last 2/ 3 seasons (since he bought Giroud and Podolski etc. ) I doubt it. I think he is actually just stingy.

Agree5 Disagree0

23 Aug 2016 17:33:56
Seems plausible Washo.
If not the only reason for little transfer activity, then would certainly mean Aw/ AFC only spend big if a galactico is available, otherwise look for value and save the rest for Koeman.

Agree2 Disagree5

23 Aug 2016 18:22:57
It's a plausible theory mate, but I think the reality is we don't negotiate like everyone else.

Arsene decides what HE values another teams player at and that's it, no wiggle room.

I don't even think this will be Arsene's final season.
Stan has his cash cow.
Arsene earns Β£8m a year to achieve the bare min.
Ivan earns Β£2.3m a year to do. I don't really know.

Why would any of them want to change that set up!?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2016 20:56:22
I think it was always Xhaka and Vardy as our main transfer targets this window and we never had a plan B option for a striker really. The poor Lacazette bid was just a token effort for the fans in my view knowing too well is was never going to be accepted, any hope of a deal there has long gone now. We may well have got Lacazette for 28-30Mill at the start of window when we were messing about with Vardy but not now.

Wenger is now only forced into CB for injures but it was never the plan to get one originally. Problem is with being so late in window prices are all inflated and we may get job getting the CB experience we need. Like others have said there is the current market value and Wenger value, which are generally miles apart. Wenger needs to realise prices are as much about supply and demand aswell as the player quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2016 11:31:31
Just think, if Wenger bought Mustafi and Lacazette at start of window, we wouldn't have nothing to talk about πŸ˜‰.

Very shrewd Arsene, always thinking of the fans.

Firstly I'm not saying you're moaning but I am an Arsenal fan, that's it for me, I want my club to win everything, love it when we win, hate it when we lose and the same when we draw.

Arsene is the manager and has been for years, I'm behind for that reason and want him to succeed but at the same time see faults, mistakes of whatever you want to call them.

So it's what my team does on the pitch, I looked at the Leicester game and yes frustration that we didn't win but liked the positives of certain players starting to look good again, Holding next to Koscielny, were Vardy and Mahrez playing? Even Cech owned Vardy. Monreal, I just don't get the doubters, it's like he has to play every week and not make a single error. How many times has he actually cost us goals.

Ozil when he came on was sublime and players will only get better. Yes we know what we need but we all know Wenger.

He may buy he may not, it will be his last season. I just get behind the team. Wenger will make his own final chapter. Neither you nor I can sit down with him and ask the questions we'd all love answers too.

That's life. Enjoy the season. We can all moan next season when Pulis takes over. πŸ˜‰.

50 million for Mustafi and 25 million for Evans? Either the clubs or the papers are having a laugh. Complete nonsense.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2016 13:34:01
Maybe we bought holding to play him twove and flip him for 30mil!

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2016 10:51:12
After my day of negativity yesterday, today finds me a little less miffed and a tad more bullish. I don't want the club to pay EUR50m for Mustafi, nor do I want Jonny Evans for Β£25m. If selling clubs want to take the proverbial, they can keep their players. Maybe we should have moved sooner for players, but with two weeks to go, there is no point paying way over the odds, or not improving the squad with panic buys to fill a team sheet. If we have to go with what we have, so be it.

If Wenger pulls a master stroke and signs an outrageously talented world class striker, I will be ecstatic, but if he doesn't, I'm not going to moan, I'm going to support the team we have.

That's it. Yours. UC.

I revkon a problem is teams are looking at stones for close to 50mil and saying if he's worth our boy is worth it!

If bonucci goes anywhere for less than 70 given some other signi gs it will be a steal and a fish finger.

Ian Wright is correct, Chambers needs to leave. He has somehow been turned from a really promising young RB into a poor CB. As he is only 21 years of age, it might be worth sending him on loan, to see if he matures and improves elsewhere. However, I have my doubts and Holding looks a far more promising prospect.

On a second topic, the loan of Campbell proves we have a huge problem at the club. He clearly doesn't fit into Wenger's plans and at his age, should be sold. Somehow our 'genius' negotiators managed to loan him out, with only a proportion of his wages being met and no sale fee built into the agreement.
So instead of selling a player, we end up paying part of his wages. I understand Wenger's decision to move him on, as he simply isn't top club material and by staying at the club, it will hinder the progress of Reinne-Adelaide and Gnabry, who I believe may both qualify as home-grown (correct me, if this is not the case).

I want to see both these talented young players given an opportunity to play this season at the club. It will build their confidence and they are clearly part of the future at the club.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2016 13:38:00
Clubs across the board need to institute pay by play bonuses or the epl market will crash.

A few years ago it was easy to sneer at city payong a fortune to get rid of their own players now its going to become more common as other leagues can't pay the wages and epl teams will say if he didn't do the business for you why should we take the gamble.

It occurred to me after going over what everyone has been saying the last couple of days. If wenger had left after the last game of the season and say maureen became our manager and spent 35 mil on eric baily and got ibra in would we be nearer a challenger for the league. And if he'd been allowed to buy pogba, for a gross spend of 120 mil would we be nearer winning champs league. Pie in the sky I know but shines a light differently for me.

Believable5 Unbelievable5

23 Aug 2016 07:15:45

I can't say we always agree Steve, but you are spot on. I find it sad that Wenger continues to be so stubborn, we are 2 or 3 players away from being a very good team. Man U have benefitted form Mourinho coming in and shaking things up and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they win the PL this season. Wenger desperately needed to make 3 top signings this summer and we didn't get them.

One could even argue that we paid well over the odds for Xhaka, as Wanyama was a third of the price. I was among the minority of fans that wanted Mourinho at the club, yes he tends to stay for a limited period, but boy would the ride have been fun! My real problem is that since Dein and Fiszman's time, there has been a weakness in the positions above him and Wenger has run the club as a dictator. He plans for the long term, when football today is about the present.

If as I expect Wenger leaves, we need a strong manager, capable of imposing his will upon the club, as there isn't the presence from above. We need someone like Simeone, Ancelloti, Mourinho or Guardioal. Not Eddie Howe, who is will be found out this season.

Agree3 Disagree2

23 Aug 2016 11:58:38
Fair comment that Red mate :-) I did say that yesterday, but forget about the Mourinho being our manager bit i wouldn't want that but Bailey and Ibra wouldn't have broken the bank at all but we would for the price of Xhaka had the CB and striker we crave, it does show what really is available or should I say was available this summer for those who wanted to make things happen for themselves.

Agree4 Disagree1

23 Aug 2016 13:39:59

23 Aug 2016 13:57:39
It obviously was all fifa manager stuff but my point is we never spend the money in the right place, there are players available? Ibrs wouldn't play for wenger and he wouldn't pay 35 for baily, anothet top manager would shake things up, it probably shows why some get so frustrated. We sometimes just pull our hair out at the spiel that comes out. We will always be two or three " players " short with wenger, its been that way too long.

Someday Wenger is going to leave the club and I believe every fan will cheer him on regardless of where he leaves the team. So comments and posts about Wenger leaving and the fear of him not being able to be replaced should not eat up our brains. Like it or not someday it's going to happen and we must be prepared for it. We must face our fears and not run from them. He is who he is today because he began somewhere and so does anyone who comes in to replace him deserves a chance. I believe will cherish what Wenger has done for the club and to say his affection too. But when the time is right for change you've got to accept it. The earlier you accept change the better it could be for you. I'm not scared of trying something different if my one way approach to doing things no longer pull off.

23 Aug 2016 08:39:26
Well it depends. For me, it is very dependent on where he leaves the team. Everyone else is suggesting he goes North, he is stubborn and says he knows a better route which goes South. If he makes me eat humble pie, I will cheer him off and marvel at his genius. If things go wrong, as I and many people suspect they will, I will be more than happy to see the back of him.
