Gents and Jenny,

Who would be your top 3 nominations for PFA Player of the Year?

(From the head and not the heart please)

1) Ya Ya Toure

2) Suarez

3) Hazard

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Was going to say Suarez again Dags but I've changed my mind lol. Given the form he's in if Sturridge scores the winners against his 2 old clubs at anfield he'll be player of the century ha ha.

1 Suarez
2 Sturridge
3Toure

Agree0 Disagree0

Difficult to not be biased here

Suarez, Aguero, Per and Kos

I would put Rambo in there if it was not for his long lay off

You can draw games if you keep a clean sheet and I love watching our defence nowadays as they make me very proud BUT its the striker or tricky winger who gets you off your seat with excitement

Based on that and nothing to do with the guy being a less than nice player - I go for Suarez. Only issue is not doing it on the very big stage but he does enough and always gives Liverpool hope. That says a lot to me.

Per has to win our player of the season followed closely and more quickly by Kos!

Agree0 Disagree0

1) Dawson
2) Soldado
3) Lamela

Three of the worst footballers, who guarantee that the Toot will not finish top four!

Agree0 Disagree0

Saurez he would get in any team

Toure a beast in the middle

and a leftfield nomination if you were to include Scotland would be Fraser Forster just for not conceding in 1215 minutes and counting. No matter what you say about the quality of Scottish football, it is some feat.

Kind words by Wenger

"Tomas Rosicky will stay. We have an agreement with him and it will come out soon. I am absolutely adamant he has to stay at the club.”

I hope he stays as well as Sagna

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree, SY4. Both bring much needed experience to our team that can help the whole team to keep a cool head going into the business end of the season!

Agree0 Disagree0

I was about to post this haha.

Got my shirt for next season.

I have a feeling utd will end up with honours this season after all, I think we will finish the season all level with points won and lost with our tittle rivals as with Liverpool by drawing with Chelski and beating city.
Leaving utd as the only team to win an advantage over us for he season, something they will use to boast of in the years to come being the only team to out point the champions in 2013/14 season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Here's hoping mate

O I hold my hands up guys. I have said that I had expected Mesut to produce more because there is no doubt he is class.

I've been thinking though. Mesut didn't have an English pre-season training session and this is also the first year he hasn't had a mid-winter break

Ad the speed of the prem to that and its no wonder the guy is dead beat!

I also think he hasn't got the same quality of players to take the chanced he creates.

My latest thinking is that we need to bear with him for 12 months. Hopefully in that time he will have got up to prem speed and developed the fitness all players need in the prem.and we will have bought players of the quality to exploit the chances he creates

Soops,

No need to apologise mate. I too have questioned Ozil, as I'm sure most of us have.

The main thing is he plays for Arsenal, and whilst he continues to do so, he will always get the full backing of every Gooner.

Agree0 Disagree0

I always allow any new signing a full season to settle in, we will see what Ozil is like next season, he must wonder what has hit him

L'pool, Man U, L'pool and Bayern all back to back fixtures I don't think any side in the world would win all four of those, I am a tad disappointed we only won one but the damage seems to have been done in the competition we wouldn't mind dropping ( if we had to)

I am sure MO will be different again next year, especially if his mate Lars signs in the Summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Sooper we all got carried away mate and expected to much to soon. His debut at Sunderland was brilliant and we saw some Bergkampesk touches, he lifted ours the players and the whole clubs belief we were well and truly back.
We have all got carried away at times this season and I do wonder what other clubs/fans think when we boo our team ( united game) when we are 1 point off top spot.
The trouble is we have wanted this so long we are afraid it won't last and we will tail off, but I doubt that more and more each month that we stay there or there abouts

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreement with all of the above.

Have also said to my non-Gooner friends that he is playing with very different players at Arsenal. At Madrid, he had the class of Ronaldo, Di Maria, Benezema and Higuain in front of him. Not only are all of these players match winners, they all have amazing pace. MO is brilliant at putting in a ball which splits defences as long as the forward player has the pace to get on to it.

I believe when we have an injury free attack of Ramsey, Walcott and The Ox we will see MO back to his best. Add to that a pacey forward to support Giroud and (hopefully) Draxler he will be the Number 10 which we expect him to be.

A quick question to my fellow Gooners, do you think he would be better playing the False 9 role with Giroud wanting to play so deep and picking up the ball and lay it off?

Let's all laugh at spurs! HAH

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Feb 2014 19:29:53
That little Spurski lad was on here posting and said how he thought it was hilarious that Szczesny had been sent off and we would now fall apart after the Bayern game in posts on their page.

Obviously that was before he saw Soldado miss a sitter in that Johnstone's Paint Trophy thing there in on Thursdays or Norwich beat them in a bore fest today.

Wonder if he's premature in everything?

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh Jenny, behave lmao ha ha!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, eh Jen?

Agree0 Disagree0

Just saw their page, all very sad sad sad sad. (timmy out, got to blame someone). they probably wondering where the hell the 100 mill really went:) DG:) nice reply to the spurskid. well, as one may say, Beep beep, mind the gap:)hahahha:):) sorry:P
COYG andi:)

Agree0 Disagree0

I refuse to comment on Soldado until we have played spurs in a few weeks, what is the betting he .well I won't say it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Andi,

I had to go onto Spurs page and say something to the boy, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

They play Chelski on the 8th after which their season may well be over making the game against us on the 16th the be all and end all of their entire season

Agree0 Disagree0

They're so obsessed with us, it's cute.

Brilliant Jenny, proper lmao!

P.s not being in it may be better, as our league form would suggest!

I would encourage Giroud to go out and look for a bird every week. It obviously gets him in the right frame of mind to score again! for Arsenal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Got to agree with you there Golds.

Giroud has obviously found the knack of scoring.

Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal and Jack Wilshere will all be fit and in the squad for the stoke game.

This is great news as Kos has been instrumental in our challenge in the league and cup competitions.

Mesut Ozil should also be fit after his "knock" which we all know is Wengers way of taking him out of the firing line.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good news, now all we need is Rambo abck and we will be near full strength.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramsey will be back after the International fixtures, hopefully the 'new boy' will also be close to joining the squad

Banter please Eds.

We're not playing for a week and I'm already bored, so thought I'd see what other Gooners think - I noticed something recently: for the first time I can remember, our 1st team squad is more or less entirely European. The only non-European players who have any kind of 1st team status would be Myaichi, Park Ju Young and Joel Campbell. But none of them are really in the 1st team squad now, only Myaichi who has made a couple of appearances this season.

Every other top 5 team has African and South American players in their 1st team, arguably their key players. Liverpool have Suarez and Coutinho, Chelsea have their Brazilians and Eto'o, City have Toure & Aguero, Spurs have Adebayor, Sandro and Paulinho, etc.

So what do we think? Do we miss the days of Edu, Gilberto, Baptista and Vela? Of Kanu, Toure, Lauren, Eboue and Song? Or do we prefer our new hyper-European team? Or do we not really care?

Thoughts on a postcard.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Zelalem (Ehtiopian who feels American). Gnabry (just turned down Ivory Coast). I think it's cyclical. African passported players who are not world quality must be disadvantaged by the African Cup which interrupts their league availability every 2 years (unless they changed that recently?).

Wenger has implied the team needed more British character to fight in the EPL, and has sought that out. Probably good marketing too -;)

The passport issue is a thorny one, most football players a global citizens; except the British who still seem not want to migrate as youth to develop.

Which player has most happily proved you most wrong in both current and past Arsenal teams?

Mine would be Szczesney reasons already stated Vieira, I thougt he looked clumsy and awful when he first arrived but he soon changed my opinion. I remember Pat Rice sending him on as a sub and thinking who evers he? How very wrong I was :-)

Ramsey and Mertascker have won a lot of people other as Flamini who I don't rember too many jumping for joy at us resigning him.

But who's your biggest ooops's

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I slagged off Mertesacker in his first season and he has shoved those words back down my throat which I am happy to admit/accept.

Szczesny is really starting to mature into a top class keeper which is fantastic and the errors are becoming less frequent.

A lot of people have rubbished Sanago already and I just hope the lad is given a chance and comes good - which I think he will.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramsey has suprised me I have to say.

Limerick Gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm very careful not to slag players off now, for the fact that after a bad first season, they become a different player!

I was all for Ramsey going out on loan and wasn't exctatic when flamini signed either.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2014 18:55:06
Andre Santos, I thought he was never going to leave but he happily proved me wrong. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Class that Jenny, that got a belly laugh :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Nicholas Bendtner. When I first saw him I thought he was absolutely useless.

Oh, hold on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mine has to be Per Mertesacker! Slated by Arsenal and non-Arsenal fans alike but I seem to remember him stating that give him time and he'd adapt his game to be effective in an Arsenal shirt. Think its safe to say he has done just that, has come on leaps and bounds this season and we can all thank him for that!

Early shout for player of the season

Szczesney, there are obviously other great candidate's but considering I wanted him sold and replaced during the summer he has made a brilliant turn around this season, yes a couple of silly mistake but he's a keeper and thier mistaks s always stand out more, the fact I can probably remember them all says how much he's improved this year

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If it hadn't been for the huge defeats against Liverpool and sheik city I would agree but put in kos as well. But injury apart its Ramsey for me. Like a lot of people I didn't fancy him at all at the start of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Has to be in the running. He has matured a lot in 12 months and considering his age is doing extremely well. Completely different player than last year: composed and commanding. What player doesn't make mistakes. keepers are more vulnerable to them than anyone else.

Shame we can't nominate the whole back 5 as a unit (giving Gibbs the nod at LB here when he is fit). So maybe Bould should get the award?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2014 19:06:37
I have to say Szczesny too because it is such an easy position to lose your way and go backwards.

Even Hart struggled a few months back and it takes a strong will and no little talent to step back up again.

It's actually hard to pick one as so many are doing well and a great shout yyc for the back 5, they are one seriously improved unit. Sagna actually seems to be getting better and better as the season goes on too.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me, kos or Mert. Can we have joint player of the year or maybe 6 months each like the Charity Shield, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree DG, the defence has been superb, Mert and Kos have been a different class

Utds logic that it would cost more to replace Rooney than keep him makes excellent financial and immediate future on the pitch sense.

But I personally wouldn't want a player who stayed because of money alone and would rather go the long way round with players who want to play because they love the club.
I guess I'm just a natural gooner and very proud to be too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Feb 2014 19:01:21
I think it was more a case of what they may lose if they didn't resign him.

There is little doubt that he is half the player he was a few years back and no real sign he will return to that level.

He though held all the cards because taking his current form out of it, he remains a massive name around the World, for a club the size of United to let him leave in their current position would potentially cause them huge problems in attracting better quality players thus they pretty much had to pay what he wanted.

Is agent is no mug and they have milked them for every penny going.

The United owners will see it as worth it to keep their money making machine doing just that.

Agree0 Disagree0

G62, I think that's Rooney all over.

I'm sure he was going to leave 2 years ago, he threw his toys out of the pram so Fergie gave him an extra £50,000 per week.

Amazing to see what a bit of a break can do for Giroud I thought the 2nd goal was a brilliant finish, He's missed 20 easier chances this season and with the emergence of Sanogo we now have a viable option to not HAVE to play Giroud every game.

I hope a couple of games out will do the same for Ozil, we have Aaron back for the Chelski game and IF he can start his come back as well as he started the season things will be looking better than ever.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree spot on and don't forget we might have diaby back for the last game too and he will be like a new signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

We all wait for Diaby with feverish anticipation. We're becoming quite practiced at the waiting by now.

If he'd ever does come uncrocked, I will be happy for him on a personal level regardless of how well he plays, it must be a nightmare for the kid not knowing if his body will ever be fit enough to do the one thing he knows he can do well.

Agree0 Disagree0

He didn't get much credit from the pundits for the 2nd goal, I thought it was a great finish from a tough angle with a keeper closing him down

Agree0 Disagree0

Good point 1404. I tight the second goal was more impressive, he looked sharp to close on it and even sharpe to take it. Proper strikers goal.

Great to see The Iceman being honoured with a statue outside the Emirates, what Arsenal player would ye like to see honoured next outside the Emirates . I know it will probably be Wenger but he is not a player, or does any player deserve it?

Limerick Gunner.

Ian wright

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Steve. Wright is a legend. Second only the King Henry is the goal scoring stakes. The smiling assassin was one of my favourite players.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think rocky should, and I imagine a lot other agree. He was outstanding.

Some other: Pires, ljungburg, vieira (basically any invincible)

But my biggest shout, Pat Rice! 44 years at the club, he certainly dwarves a statue. A real Arsenal man

Superb day at the Emirates yesterday, interesting to see plenty of chat between the players, BFG and Bac bitching, Jack doing his Flamini impression,

High points, a win, a very good win!
Link up play very good, however, there was no pressure from Sunderland, good teams (us) will force weaker teams back ( them), so, I can see why they didn't pressure us too hard in their first third, opting for a simple 11 men behind the ball formation. I thought we looked very good up until the first goal, then Arteta did his square ball, ball back, square ball, square ball, square, square, I swear the ball turned into a cube it got passed side ways and back so many times.
I still feel Jack wheelchair needs to toughen up, he will end up with bedsores the amount of time he spends on the floor, apparently Kos hurt his back, Monreal his ankle, great to see Pod get his 90mins,
A well deserved win, Tommy Rosicky goal. damn, his and Jacky boys are almost identical, great header from Kos.

Berg ( the best player to ever put the shirt on) kamp
Our halftime interviewer said " I'm not going to ask you the question they (the fans) want me to ask,
You know what the question is Dennis, so I'll let you answer it.
Emirates went silent, you could have heard a mouse fart.

Dennis basically said, ( paraphrased) he felt he had a connection with the club, his children had grown up here etc.etc. He stopped short of saying I am definitely coming back, and this is when!
However, he intimated he would be back at some point. Anyone for Terry Henry and Dennis running the club?
COYG, superb day out

We now have 4 of our 7 defenders injured, which clearly illustrates the lack of a 4th centre back and quality young defenders coming through the ranks. Hopefully, the injuries to Koscileny & Monreal are not too serious.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ignasi Miquel is having great season helping Leicester to the prem! I really think Wenger plans to have Jenks as a cb at some point as well. Would love to see Kurt Zouma added to the ranks maybe in the summer.
