I am a Spurs support but have to say I am really worried by the news in the press. Cesar, Williams, Fellaini, Rooney & Higuain all seem to have substance.

With the initial stadium expenses now covered, and Champion League secured on the last day of the season, I fear the Gunners have serious ambition again.

Cesar has been outstanding throughout his career, and last season at QPR, proved he is still world class. With Fabianski both looking likely to make way for him.

Ashley Williams would be a fantastic addition, with Squilacci making way. Koscielney has developed into a top player, and Williams will make a great pairing. Mertesaker and Vermaelen are great options as cover.

The flanks with Sagna & Jenkinson on the right and Monreal & Gibb on the left look relatively solid.

With the mercurial talent of Cazorla combined with the spark of Wilshire, the midfield has the flair. What has been missing is the general in recent years. Fellaini would be a massive signing, and transform Arsenals midfield.

If the Rooney and Higuain rumours are true, I dread to think of front three including Walcott. With Podolski, Giroud, Oxlaide-Chamberlain and Gervinho, the options are vast.

Sadly I can smell the gun powder in the Cannons again, and Wengers finest our could seriously become a reality.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wow thanks! Nice and refreshing.

We are hoping (as much as you are fearing no doubt!) the club has finally turned a corner and we can be competitive again- it will be an interesting summer that's for sure and not just for us but all the top clubs in the pl. We are lucky to have such a gr8 league.

Agree0 Disagree0

You have my respect mate come on here and saying that

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal my second team, if there's such a thing!
Three of top four changing manager and arsenal promising to spend and being linked to the right players, you're right, this looks like an amazing season ahead of us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice post bud, respect, thought would return favour and run through your side picking out the positives so here goes, bales not bad is he.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanx

Agree0 Disagree0

Damn you. its so positive, I can't even say something sarcastic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice one gunner give a sheet looking at your name your probably in school now but it was a good post and it was full of respect I too am a spurs supporter and I agree with the original post, not being clouded I can see we will struggle to keep up with you but you come across as a bitter neanerthal of football. spurs don't have as many stars as arsenal but to say we only have bale is er. shortsighted and blind to say the least I won't list our top players but rest assured they will do their level best to keep the rivalry up but in a professional manner they will fight it out for 90 minutes and then they will SHAKE hands out of RESPECT the same RESPECT the original poster was trying to do but you like suarez won't offer to shake that hand. shame really because you may not like this but arsenal and spurs have a unified love of good football you are very lucky to be able to support such a club as arsenal so show some respect and decorum whilst doing so because don't forget when talking about your club you are also representing them. as when we played bolton and muamba went down we all realised sometimes we have to be responsible and think above just football. we do after all have a common goal and that is the beautiful game being played in the way it should and the supporters should behave in a way as to reflect this

dave

Agree0 Disagree0

Well going by this new trend of FFP and sustainability. or Oil rich money.

the best way to make your team a contender is by having a big stadium to generate massive revenues, then you buy some awesome players and then, you cross your fingers and hope for the best, as nothing is a given in football, when terms like luck and lapse in concentration, win and cost points.

i think the spurs have a good team. comparable with ours, with one world class player extra, and between the two teams he is the only world class player.

but both the teams will have problems keeping away the sharks who feed on our talent. its a world where success is gained today or you walk away.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Dave thought this was banter website not a dating one, just banter mate if look at some of my previous posts have actually said prefer to fight for title with your lot than any of the money rich sides or the of Manchester. Do actually wish you luck for the coming season, just not too much eh! (Wish was still at school, so old cannot even remember it )

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play gunner give sheet I am all for banter and to tell the truth (i shouldnt) but I feel more affinity with the gunners than any other club (oooops dating stuff again) gutted it HAS to be you that always pips us for fourth but would sooner you guys in there with your style of football than any others. I regular look at the arsenal page and regularly think gulp with the players bantered around you could/should be shooting for the title add to that a man called wenger and you are almost the finished article. Our rivalry is good and should be kept on a certain level, or the next thing we know we have stooped to the thug element erupting in fights etc etc. I don't expect you to praise our team but the original poster was more than complimentory and realistic about your team and I was just asking for the same yes we have bale but without him we also have the likes of dembele (button) lennon lloris verts dawson kaboul with siggs and holtby being young hopefuls whilst I don't think these are on a par with your team they still deserve a mention rather than the well bale is ok that was all. you are of course right it is a banter site and banter is formed by your opinion and nobody else's but I just wanted to try to balance out the comment and I also wanted to try to keep the banter going and by being unreasonable and over biased won't allow continuation. I finish by saying I would sooner have a bit of fun banter than an arguement as we rarely do get any banter between the two teams.

good luck wth cl qualifier and I wish we were there.

dave

Agree0 Disagree0

A lot of respect to the original poster and Dave for coming on here and having their say. Not all of us bite at the enemy, so to say.

I'm the same, one of my best friends is a spurs fan and we go at each other but still respect eachothers opinions and views on our teams and players and can always appreciate a good team and player and game when there is one.

Thanks for coming by and giving your views.

With a seat empty on the board a lot of people seem to want usmanov on the board but due to being involved heavily in other businesses I don't see having the position.

People forget that R&W is a partnership between him and moshiri so don't be surprised if he is the man who gets chips seat on the board

Stan Kronke owns various other sporting clubs and he is our major shareholder. If he can manage then surely Usmanov should be fine.

I still doubt people claiming that Higuain is set to have a medical tomorrow

Real are still to confirm Ancelotti as manager

PSG won't let him begin talks until they find a replacement for him

Neither seem any closer to bring sorted, so don't expect to see Higuain as an Arsenal player in the next couple of days

Still have every faith that we'll have a good summer transfer-wise though!

Would like to ask Ed a question. Everyone is thinking the Higuain deal is done (and I really hope it is) but what is the earliest stage at which it can become a DONE deal officially. seems to me that until July 1st there is a window for it to be hijacked. {Ed027's Note - Next week

I think Lars Bender is a more likely option than Fellaini. I like Fellaini but I don't think he is that missing DM we need for me he isn't the athlete we require and can go missing in games. If Madrid do buy ilkay gundogan we should make a move for Khedira or Alonso.

I'm confused as to why people think we are so close to getting Higuain? His father and agent has said that Juventus are at the same stage as us? So surely there is just as much chance of him going there, I'm desperate for him to join. Am I missing something? Or just being pessimistic?

I think we should give a bit of credit to the two central defenders regarding the latter part of the season. 5 goals in 11 games is impressive stats. Just imagine how good they could be with a natural defensive midfielder in front of them, and a better keeper behind them. I think a lot of credit should go to the coaching staff as well. and lastly Wenger for dropping the club captain after the spurs game. What we now need is back up for Kos and the big German. In general we defended better as a team. its important for the wide midfielders/wingers to double up in front of our full backs, and give them cover. If you ever closely watch Manchester United play you will see 90% of their goals come from wide positions. I really feel this is an area in which we are inferior to the them, particularly balls into the front man/men. I believe Higuain is a perfect fit for us. His goal scoring record for Madrid was very good. His first season for Madrid, after being signed by Capallo yielded him 29 goals. He was a firm favourite with the Madrid supporters. When I watch goalkeepers, most of the best ones are at successful clubs. City, chelsea and Madrid. the exception seems to be Stoke. Begovic has real presence. Along with a real natural def midfielder and I think we could be a real force this coming season. remember Wilshire should be fully fit next season. let's just hope these rumours about these players come to fruition. km

Greetings and Salutations my fellow Gooners,

And let the mayhem begin. With July 1st beckoning, it appears the full throttle of craziness that is the summer window is set to be upon us in full force.

Here are my two pence:

1. Sanogo - A typical Arsene project purchase. Potential appears to be there, injuries are somewhat concerning especially with the close association of Diaby. Good initial purchase as it is important to also make purchases towards future opportunities.

2. Higuain - A game changer I believe. I honestly believe this will give us an element to our team that will make us extremely formidable. A 1-2 with Giroud who played well for us last season provides us with the security up front we have not had in awhile, coupled with Walcott and Podolski if required I believe we will score with the best. In addition I believe this will indicate a strong message of intent to our supporters and other players about the direction of the club. It also appears this deal will be in line with our financial model, a good win-win deal.

3. Fellaini - Another important signing if it comes to fruition. Size is an element we have lacked in recent years, and while his deployment within the squad can be debated his physical stature cannot. I believe much like Arteta he will add a stability and dynamic to our midfield we have not had in recent years.

4. Rooney - I think this appeals to us as supporters as retribution for Van Persie. I believe this is much ado about nothing. If he chooses to leave United I believe he will end up at Chelsea because I don't believe we will change our salary structure for a player who has not shown much loyalty throughout his career. A talent he is but I do not believe an Arsenal player he will be.

5. Back 4 - I hope they all stay. Kos, Verm, Sagna, Mertsacker, Jenkinson, Monreal and Gibbs I believe can be the best D in the league. I believe we are two deep at each position and that is a good thing. I think rotation based on merit if continued as it did at the end of last will bring the best out of this group.

6. Keeper - I believe Szczesny has immense potential but I believe he needs to be pushed, I though Fabianski did well for us last season when needed but if he decides to pursue other goals then fair enough. A veteran keeper I believe would be an important purchase and would assist with Szczesny's development

7. Adams - One of the true greats and will always be admired and revered as such. I sincerely hope he was misquoted or his statements were taken out of context. Great players do not lead to great executives. I will reserve any further comment out of respect for Tony, but that was as poor a commentary as I have read from a former great.

8. Arsene - I have and will always continue to be a tremendous admirer. His willingness to stand in the fire from the media and discontents is nothing short of brilliant. The transformation of our club commercially, structurally and financially over the past 20 years is due to in great part to his continued efforts. Our consistency cannot be questioned and while silverware has been absent in recent years one must balance that with the ambition of the club to grow strategically. Many clubs go through barren spells but also do not grow in other regards, this is the fundamental difference with our club, despite a lull in silverware we built a new stadium, financed the project through our club revenue and remained fiscally responsible in a global recession despite the external pressures from supporters and other clubs. This I believe is his greatest strength, he has a vision based on an approach which befits the clubs values and now I believe we will re-surface as one of Europe's elites, I ask those who are his detractors, has he not earned this opportunity? I for one believe he certainly has!

To all those who consistently post and the Ed's, great job and to all our fellow Gooners, its going to be a great summer for Arsenal FC!

There's now a picture doing the rounds of a tv screen saying 'Arsenal agree personal terms in principle with Real Madrid forward Higuain'

Eds, does this usually happen before or after a fee has been agreed? I. e. would we be allowed to speak with him and agree terms before agreeing a fee with the club?

I remember the exact same thing happened with Mata, we'd agreed terms with him but then along came Chelsea. {Ed027's Note - We would be allowed, as he is for sale. With Mata we agreed to match the buy out clause before a certain date, we pulled out in the end

Does anyone else just want to reach into the cyber world, follow a tweet to it's source and SLAP THE SHIZZLE out of the sender? I don't know what's worse, the media output, or the persons that retweet it like Gospel without using any sort of thought process of their own.

'Ashley Williams is ready to tell Swansea he wants to join Arsenal. '

So wait, you're telling my a guy who probably sees or speaks to his employers and agents most days hasn't any ANY kind of conversation about his future until now - but he has let it leak to the media that maybe he is ready to have the big man chat with Uncle Michael? Jeeeez!

This conversation would have been had months ago! Just like all our other signings' conversations. E. g. Song's sale was agreed in principle months and months before it happened. The Podolski deal was agreed at xmas before he moved but he opted to stay for the remainder of the season to help Cologne fight relegation. Giroud deal was basically decided in March. The Nacho deal was agreed last summer or thereabouts, but we brought it forward to xmas this year due to injuries and Santos' wackness.

People go on about tapping up but make no mistake if we were interested in Williams we would have done the talking, and subsequently he would have done the talking to his club, months/weeks ago. These reports are just so daft!

'Higuain deal edges closer' - eh? Nonsense! It's either agreed or it's not. 'Higuain is nearly ready to put pen to paper on a deal. ' RETWEET haha.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You were going so well until the last line. Of course a deal can edge closer, it has many pieces and they don't all happen at the same time so all transfers can edge closer to being finalised.

Went to a confidence seminar hosted by Tony Adams. I went in there believing I was a worthless pathetic individual with a bleak future, but after listening to Tony for an hour I learnt not to big myself up too much, and that the future isn't as bright as I thought it was.

"The club is so far behind the rest it can not compete. We need a complete overhaul of players. We couldn't even win the Carling cup. The future is dark and the end is nigh.
So, have I got the job?"
"No Tony, no you haven't. "

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

I think even the most diehard 'Wenger Out' fans have decided to recalibrate their mindset in light of the fact that Gazidis has put immense pressure on Wenger to spend, indirectly, and he has also revealed our financial strength. Combined with the new commercial deals announced earlier in the year and our minimal spending in January, and I think people are at least prepared to wait until the start of the season to see how we look. Tony Adams is entitled to his opinion but could do with giving the doom-mongering a rest!

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2013 18:36:17
Great player. even better captain. but what a ego. km

Agree0 Disagree0

I on the other hand see his point, the board are very old men now, a bit more of a mix would probably be helpful, football and business have moved on. We have an apparently disinterested majority owner, and a manager who seems to have forgotten how to win things.

Fellaini- High possibility of happening after lyon confirmed gonalons not for sale

Cesar- Deal should be completed after confederations cup.

Williams- He has apparentley told swansea he wants to leave.!0 mill bid from arsenal is expected.

Higuian- Deal should be completed in the next few days.

Rooney- Wenger is considering a bit of around 20 - 25 million but wages could be the issue even though usmanov has said he will do everything he can if wenger wants him.

I am a bit non-plussed regarding the keeper situation.

I also believe that little merry-go-round of keepers involving Reina, Mignolet etc will happen.

Why the HELL would be not just go for Mignolet? And if he is off, and they want Mannone, why don't we just use Mannone in a deal for Mignolet?

People who 'aren't sure' about Mignolet, go read up on him. He has not had a bad season yet. He has built a solid reputation in the last 3 years, with each season being an improvement upon the last. He is destined for greatness and imo already most of the way there. Forget Begovic, Mignolet is the one! It was smack of 'same old Arsenal' if we bought Reina when he has been wack for 2 seasons now, maybe even 3, when we could buy a guy has been miles better than him during each of those seasons, with virtually no errors in all that time.

Don't know about the rest of you but I am getting kind of tired of Project-this-player and Project-that-player. Why won't we just buy the best tools to work with? Is Reina a reliable keeper? No. I actually think he's less reliable than Szcz. Is he going to come here to 'Mentor' Szcz? No. So if we sign him are we going to see his best? No! Szcz has had 2 years now as number one, in that time he's been dropped for far inferior prospects and none of our keepers would get a look in at the clubs above us.

So here's to signing Mignolet and hoping Reina goes to spain!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, I really want to get Mignolet. i'm really hoping we try to sneak in at the last minute. It looks like there could be a chance considering his agents comments about no deal being done yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haven't Liverpool pretty much got the mignolet deal wrapped up though mate? I said in an earlier post I reckon we'll end up with valdes or reina to be honest. Would love begovic though.

He was a legend and for that I will respect him. I do recall on two different occasions in prematch build ups I heard him call Gibbs - Clichy. Doing it once is okay but to do it again on another day, wow!So i'm sure he has his wires crossed again.

Any chance we could make a move for paulinho as an alternative for fellani

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really don't think he's good enough. Fellaini is proven in the Prem, much more of a force.

Let the spurs have him, I'm guessing he's free Thursday nights

Tony Adams is sure turning into a bitter old lemon these days. He's a legend but the guy needs to grow old (er) gracefully.
AG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He kind of proved he should not be chair himself following his recent comments.
I would like to see him and Bob Wilson on the board though.
Tony is too outward spoken to be chair and seems to have a few issues with the club. Why did he not appear at the last game at Highbury. I met lads of ex-players that day, surely he could have made it.

So if all that is read is to be believed then Wanyama is going to Southhampton and Capoue is going to Monaco. Also Gonalons is not allowed to leave Lyon so that leaves Fellaini. Which other defensive mids are realistic?

This came from some woman who was at a party with Fellaini and Arteta. She 'quoted' him, but I'm not so sure. Although she definitely met them, she poses with them both in a photo.

a woman called nina posted a picture of her and fellaini in marbella with the caption saying something like, asked fellaini if he is off to arsenal?. his apparent reply was, hope so.

the picture is geniune but no-one can verify the quotes.

Lol reading through ure lots posts is so amusing. baggins, we already replaced rooney last season in RVP.
The rest who are seeming to wish bad apon my club please grow up, ure our team NOW would finish above u, but with a few key signings I dnt see that 15+ point gap closing anytime soon.
Unlike many of u with us, I do hope u lot do well this coming season u deserve it. But honestly u need to get over this utd complex u have developed, ure really beginning to sound like pool fans and we no how that ended up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm not exactly sure what this is aimed at. United hasn't really been mentioned on this page at all recently bar the whole Rooney story.

G95

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with G95, I can't see many remarks regarding utd?

Agree0 Disagree0

CTR if you'd care to point out where we have discussed united on this page I'd be happy to agree with you but I honestly think you'll struggle other than the Rooney talk. Paranoia is beginning to sink in with utd fans it seems as they are well aware we'll have replaced rvp if the higuain deal comes off.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's funny how the united fans are getting nervous now we have cash to spend (without borrowing $$$) every season. I'm sure after a few seasons Moyes will do well with 'ure team'.

The REDman has the footballing knowledge of a gnat, he feels the need to escape from the panic on his own page of god we need Ronaldo, no Bale, no Strootman, no Thiago, no in fact anyone to help us.

Utd are the most likely team of the top four to head south and he knows it so pops over here to try and make himself feel better for reasons best known to himself. Gets made to look a total ar5e the goes off and hides again.

He's no doubt just sold all his copies of the big issue in Skegness town centre and popped in the local Mac D's to use the free Wifi.

Guys is a class one chump living in the Theatre of Dreamers!

I have a feeling this was a post on the United page in response to AFC fans posting on their page ( question - why would you do that?! Urgh. ) and one of the Eds has been a bit cheeky and posted it here for our amusement?

Really want us to sign fellaini and higuain imagine the midfield with fellaini and wilshere and Santi, but higuain will come to arsenal I'm sure if it but we have to wait for real to sign there manager and then we will have him before the Asia trip but with fellaini we will bid but I don't think we will make a second bid for him but would love both if them at arsenal

Anyone who thinks we will buy Fellani and higuian are stupid every year we going to buy big name players and every year wenger says we just missed out on them load of rubbish new young French lad to be our only in coming striker

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How about no. fool.

Agree0 Disagree0

You didn't leave a name? How are you going to say 'told you so" if you don't sign off?
AG

Agree0 Disagree0

We know that and get all that- BUT we are hopeful now that the club has turned a corner financially and at last we will see that prudence pay off (so to speak :) ), so we think this summer will be different.

Hard to believe, that this is going to happen? Yes it is.

we will have to wait and see, but the signs are promising.
LG

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully we can start to build a competitive team, now that the club has some cash to spend.
I think Wenger has to be applauded for keeping us in the CL every season, whilst reducing the clubs debt. I know we have watched a lot of quality players being sold, but we have to trust that this has been done for the future of the club.
If what Gazidis says is true, and we have some money to spend, then there is no reason why we should not see Higuain, Fellaini and more playing in an Arsenal shirt next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes we usually get excited by lots of rumours, but for years we've not really had anyone serious to go on. But the Higuain story has so much weight to it I find it very hard to disprove

3434

Agree0 Disagree0

3434, I like your response.

For years we've signed Silvestre, Squillaci and Park.

Rather than moan we should be excited we're linked to Rooney, Higuain and Fellaini.

It could mean we actually sign one two or all three!

Lets hope its true. that's all I can say. things go from bad to worse going by our history. got all my fingers crossed.

Reina to barca, valdes to monaco, arsenal get 1 from begovic, cesar or patricio. Prefer begovic

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pretty sure Valdes has said he's staying to see out his contract

Agree0 Disagree0

I would prefer Begovic as he's young, has premier league experience and has proven to be an excellent goalkeeper over the last two seasons.

Szczesny might not like it but if he is set on becoming the best keeper in Europe or the World then he needs to get his head down, stop spouting his mouth off and improve and show his true potential.

just a thought, has anyone looked at Fred this season. he's done well in confederations cup. any eds have any idea what he would cost or anyone whos likely to get him? I would prefer him to el sharaawy.
steve {Ed027's Note - Both dif players mate, and he's comfortable in Brazil, he will stay put as he is catching the eye, I think 10-15m would do it

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I just can't get my head around Brazilian footballers with such boring names such as Jo, Fred and Bernand!

Flamini contract ends in a couple of weeks and available for free, he was great in his last season playing for us and the season before that covered left back really well, would live us to get him back
Stevie nic

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Most under rated player arsenal have had in last 20 years it was his work rate that made us invincible, still would not want him now 10 yrs ago take him over any of the defensive mid fielders currently looking at or even out there if had my pick (best dm ever!)

Agree0 Disagree0

He was a one season success. One season out of eight! And, how come he has been so anonymous in Italy?

Lanz

Agree0 Disagree0

That's right Lanz. We put up with their mediocre performances for years on end. Then after one good season they're off.

Sound familiar? Flamini, Hleb, Song, RVP.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't have him back. No way!

He thought the grass was greener elsewhere and left after his best season. He left OUR club behind and now his current club value him that much that they've let his contract run down. He's clearly not worth it!

Ignore him!

Agree0 Disagree0

At the time he left I believe he had 1 season left on his contract while Fabregas had 3/4. Something very similar to that anyway, sorry I can't be exact.
We focused on giving Fabregas an extra year or two before talking to Flamini. I agree, Cesc was a much better and more important player than Flamini, but they still shouldn't have treated him like crap.
He had a great season, yeah he had some bad ones but for all we know he had turned the corner. He hasn't done well since so maybe we dodged a bullet, we'll never know.

Would really love to see us make a move for Keisuke Honda been a favourite of mine for a few years, and after seeing him at the confederations cup, it has rekindled my desire to see him join Arsenal. He went of the boil a bit in his last year at CSKA after his lazio move fell through, but he has so much to offer, and can play so many positions, winger, attacking and holding midfielder, and should need be wing back or striker, such a hard worker. He would be a really good addition to the squad would provide good solid cover with his industrious presence as well as having the technical ability Wenger loves. I know a some of the eds were big fans of him too. We would still need others to sign as well but I think we would be missing a trick if we didn't at least make some effort to sign him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hes one of those that performs for country but not quite as good at club level
