Next season expectancy levels will be sky high and understanding levels at there lowest levels for many yeaes, any player who is deemed to have let us down on the day will be held far more accountable because unlike the 4th place trophy chasing years the margins for era a much narrower when seriously contending a title.
Olly won't be able to miss as many gilt edged chances Jack Theo Keiren won't be afford the same patience and any stupidity that costs us points from any player will not be forgotten so quickly, next season really will be separation time for the men and the boys.
Oh and as for MerterDUCKER? He wouldn't dare complete his hatrick :-)

g62 haven't thought about it that way but you got it spot on
Especially knowing that we gooners are quick to get fed up

23 Jun 2015 22:43:54
For the first time in many years, we don't just have 2 players for nearly every position, we have 2 GOOD players for nearly every position.

We are slightly light upfront, hence my call for Charlie Austin.

I'm actually going to try to mention Charlie Austin in every post.

Well, at least until Ed025 bans me :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats on the cards dags.. :)

23 Jun 2015 23:09:39
And as for Remy he's just soooooo last year ;-)

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 23:20:08
Expectations were pretty high last summer if I remember rightly, that went out the window when we went in to the season with half a CB. Still need a top striker I feel and I don't really see many we could get. I think we would over achieve to win with giroud

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2015 00:20:36
If we got charlie austin I think id turn into a right moaner.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2015 07:38:03
If we signed Charlie Austen I'd seriously question our obsession with regaining the 4th place trophy.
The man's got Stoke Newcastle spuds written all over him.

24 Jun 2015 08:16:19
Blimey Steve, we must have secretly signed Charlie Austin about 2 years ago than mate :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 21:59:37
Cech completes his move to us, an excellent signing IMO .

Wenger just needs a couple more and they could be challenging for all honours not just domestic

Oh and to keep the door to the treatment room locked

23 Jun 2015 22:44:53
Agree we need a couple more Bambam.

Charlie Austin.

There, we only need one more signing.

So the Cech transfer/rumour kicked off a intresting keeper debate.
Last great goalkeeper for us was good old Jens
I'd rather keep Ospina over Scez
Yes Scez has more potantial but I do give him that easy argument he can not ride on that (similar to Whilshere) he has to show that he can perform on a regular basis
Ospina is proven and would make a great number 2 behind Cech and you know what you get if you eventually have to play him
Ideal for me would be keeping Ospina as a number 2 and loaning Scez
By the way why didn't my fellow Austrian Manninger make it?
I was 6 when he ended his Arsenal career in 2002
But in 39 games he kept 18 cleansheet which is quite impressive
Cheers mates

23 Jun 2015 20:57:57
If I remember correctly, manninger came in when seaman was injured, but was then dropped when seaman was fit again, he didn't like it, chucked his toys out the pram then went on loan.
While on loan he told everyone he was never returning back to us.

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Jun 2015 21:17:37
I think MgM got it spot on.

If memory serves me correct, his nose got put slightly out of joint when we signed Richard Wright from Ipswich, thus making Manninger 3rd choice behind Seaman and Wright.

In fairness, a decent keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 21:41:28
If rumours are true we got cech for 11 mil and selling ospina for 7 mil. Good business, ospina very good keeper can't knock him but he didn't look like he was world class. I think shez still might go yet and martinez second choice. We could get 6 or 7 for him, don't see him better than martinez myself.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 21:51:11
Think the thinking behind selling Ospina and keeping Szczesny, is that Szczesny does/ will qualify as homegrown.

He either does already or will do if the rumoured rule changes take effect. I guess I agree with this as you don't want to waste a non HG spot on a back up goalie especially. Just hopefully he can learn from Cech and grow up!

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 22:26:09
Gutted if ospina leaves.....goal kicks will never be the same :(

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 22:44:11
I guess that makes sense
We Austrians tend to get very angry when we don't get what we want be it a place at University of arts or being first choice

23 Jun 2015 22:47:11

Charlie Austinnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

That sounds good though.

23 Jun 2015 23:17:34
I imagine Ospina himself will want to leave, can't blame him for not wanting to spending 3 or 4 seasons on the bench..

23 Jun 2015 20:30:16 DG, have you been texting Talksh!t? Lots of chat about Charlie Austin and how he could do a great job for the mighty Gooners

Sy4,

I try to keep things secret, but behind the scenes I have set up a 'Sign Austin for Arsenal' petition.

Only 2 have signed so far.
Me and my dog. Although I'm not sure if a muddy paw print actually counts as a signature.

I have also written to The Courts of Human Rights, am still awaiting their reply.

Have contacted Wenger, Gazidis, Usmanov, David Dein, Thierry Henry, Nigel Winterburn, the head groundsman, the bald bloke who operates the turnstiles in the Clock End, the tea lady, Winston Churchill, the woman who wrote the Harry Potter novels, Jeremy Clarkson, Cilla Black, Dale Winton, Sir Edmund Hilary, Buzz Aldrin, Jeremy Kyle and finally, Lady GaGa.

Again, no replies as yet.

I tried to hire a plane to fly over Emirates with a 'Charlie for Arsenal' banner.

Alas, my budget only allowed me to put a hand written A4 poster outside Arsenal tube station, but it still cost me 75 pence.

Alas, I was fined £80 for fly posting by Highbury and Islington Council.

But, my fight will continue, rest assured.

Even as we speak, my Nan is knitting me a 'You'd be barmy, not to want Charlie' jumper.

Watch this space.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im sure that anything to do with "charlie" would be welcomed by most players dags..

Welcome back Steve, lol.

Mate, how many strikers are around at moment?

We won't get Lacazette (spelling).
We won't get Jackson Martinez. Too old and is Athletic Madrid bound.
We won't get Benzema. Will stay at Madrid or go to Utd.
We won't get Higuain.

Charlie Austin is a perfect fit.
He would jump at chance to join Arsenal.
A perfect understudy to Giroud, or even in place of Olly when injured/suspended/knackered/locked in hotel room.

18 goals in a relegated QPR team.
4th highest goalscorer in Prem last season.

If he was to change his name to Charlie Austinino, people would be shouting for Wenger to sign him.

It's a no brainer mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he was a big fish in a small pond dags, at arsenal he would be a small fish in a big pond!..just offer madrid the going rate for benzema and the league is yours mate..

24 Jun 2015 00:10:00
He would just be another dion dublin, darren bent or soldado. Get to a team that demands a performance and they cant. Stick at his level. Understudy to giroud, tut tut. Giroud should be the understudy.

Buy Benzema, add Jose luis Gaya and William Carvalho and bring the title home.

23 Jun 2015 23:22:35
Ed,

I would love Benzema, he is the finished article and a big game player. Just can't see it happening, especially as we have been linked to him for at least 3 seasons.

He is by far my first choice, but perhaps a dream too far.

Agree about Charlie Austin being a small fish, but by the theory of nature and evolution, small fish turn into big fish.

I honestly think, given the right surroundings, team and chances, Austin could be an absolute steal, and of course, falls into the category of 'home grown' players.

And for a mere £15m?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we all have our own opinions dags and thats healthy, i just think that benzema could be the answer mate, i do like giroud but he is not a world class striker, for me he misses too many easy chances and would be a great back up but not the main man..

23 Jun 2015 20:17:39
I don't feel too bad about Ospina leaving if it's true, to be honest. He had some good saves but he's got the same issue where he comes to punch and totally goes tits up.

Similarly while his reflexes are good, he seems to do this weird thing where he dives over the ball or let's his wrists bend and it goes in anyway. It sometimes strikes me that for a keeper who did everything right (e.g. positioning and the dive) he would just let them in anyway.

Can't quite figure him out but I think Szczesny still had the potential to improve and regardless, Cech is a massive upgrade on both. If it happens, happy days, and good luck to Ospina but no big loss.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Jun 2015 20:33:13
Bit harsh that wire even if pretty much accurate mate, I never felt he was a safe keeper just better than Szczesney at this time.
Good shot stopper but always seemed to parry the ball back into a dangerous position, although his record was quite good I don't think he would have been able to sustain it over a season and certainly not season after season.
Good luck to the man hope he does well in Turkey.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 21:36:40
Wire.

Congrats, most puzzling post of the year.

And I suppose Messi has dodgy toenails and square kneecaps.

And Ronaldo has a hairy belly button, thus enabling both of them to be crap?

Agree0 Disagree3

23 Jun 2015 20:08:45
Sky Sports saying Cech is agreed for 10.9 million so only the formalities and all done. Possibly my favourite signing bar Sanchez, maybe Ozil of the last decade (obvious). Game changer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i would agree with that baggins..

23 Jun 2015 20:00:13
Confirmed.

Cech to us for £10.9m.

Liverpool fan in peace. Obviously Cech is a brilliant signing for you we defo could have done with him. Do you see Szczesny getting sold on if the Cech move happens. Cheers lads

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Jun 2015 19:47:50
Welcome Eamon,

If Cech deal goes through, Sczezny will stay and be our Number 2.

Shame because Ospina is a better keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 19:52:01
No, Ospina - which is a bit harsh as he's been solid. But Cech is another level to 90% of all keepers

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 20:12:47
Would Szczesny be happy to be number 2. Cech is a top top keeper and will be for another 5 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 21:38:37
That remains to be seen Eamon.

I think any decent keeper should be unhappy to be a Number 2, but he has to keep training and working hard and take his chances when presented.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 17:35:39
Who thinks next season is going to be a defining one for Chambo? He'll surely be our Hazard in a couple of years. He's got everything but the composure to pick the final pass or score and that will come only with game time. But if he was to play who would be dropped? Rambo? Walcott/ Giroud/ Cazorla?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - comparing him to hazard makes you sound a bit silly imo climber..

23 Jun 2015 20:40:10
His defining season for me was last season, before getting injured he was 2nd only to Sanchez and the big difference between the Ox and Jack and Theo is he's done it weeek after week after week already, the boys the real deal which is why chelsea wanted him
If you read their page and most other pages its the Ox every one wants and rates the highest of all our home grown/ younger players.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2015 06:41:25
I meant in terms of being a dribble-happy forward, Ed, nothing else. What Hazard did to us in Stamford Bridge for the penalty, Chambo did to Manchester United at OT.

G62. But if he's to have his spot, who would be dropped?

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2015 11:27:47
I'd drop Ramsey. Love the boy but out wide the ox is better, and he's not a dm and he's no cazorla so unfortunately place for him in the line up

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2015 17:20:34
the ox won't be much good if he can't play (injuries) i have a bad feeling he could end up diaby mach 2

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 13:05:13
there was a question asked the other day about who could be arsenals captain if Arteta leaves (or its changed)

What do people think of Cech if/when he signs for arsenal?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Jun 2015 13:26:49
I think he has the presence and voice for it but I would be very surprised if he walked into the team and was made captain.

For me I ould pass the armband to Kos or merts but I,m sure a lot would dissagree with me

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 15:24:33
For me kos or Sanchez

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 16:03:06
hmm Sanchez could be good if/when he is more vocal on the pitch. If he got players to do half the ball chaseing he did we would be in business

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 16:49:43
Mert. Say what you like about his pace but he can read the game well. Great for getting the midfield properly positioned.
Only other contenders are Kos, Coq and Santi

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 19:53:37
Two things I always disagree with.

1) New signing being made Captain.

2) New signing being our top earner, irrespective of who they are.

Koscielny Captain every time.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 19:54:06
Cech is a thought but not this year. If Ramsay or Wilshere could get a place longer term without injuries, they might both be potentials. Maybe another year or two. In the meantime, Per has the authority really

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 23:24:23
Le coq!

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 12:06:00
Liverpool could do with a keeper as either an upgrade or competition for Mingulay
Southampton need a keeper to replace Forstser while he's out
Utd need to look at a replacement for De Gea
But not one mention of Ospina to any of them that I've seen, I'm not dissing him because he did ok for us but I do think we rated him a little to highly because we were comparing him to Szczesney.
I wish Ospina every success where ever he goes but its where that ends up being that will say a lot about how good he really was for us.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

23 Jun 2015 13:22:16
In honesty until we hear it is official anything could happen. Yes Abramovich has said Cech can leave and yes ed02 has said it can be to Arsenal but haggling over a fee leaves a window of opportunity for other clubs to step in and get the deal done.

Southampton have signed a keeper, Stekelenburg, on loan, United will not be looking at Ospina and Liverpool have purchased Bogdan.

Ospina is rumoured to be going to Turkey, I think.

Wenger is fannying around about money, that is not what I want to see happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 13:37:36
well put G62, I have to agree I think he was a superb stop gap and that unfortunately for him is all he was and is.

Its been a very long time Since we have had an excellent keeper and I think unless you have one you cannot win the PL.

We will see a much better team next year with Cech and I believe wit his presence a much morestable defence and better organised also.

People knock our Shabby defence and say they are panicky, slow (merts) and tbh i would have to agree. But rio and JT were also slow and at times can make mistakes but because they have that GK they don't panic and I think because of this our defence will improve and we will see how world class our CB's actually are.

I personally think we have expected and blamed players like merts to much and you don't see the issues like that so much when he plays for Germany with Neur behind him, just a thought

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 19:33:33
Sanchez can't speak english, he's not a captain type eother, no doubt he's a leader, but he's not a captain

Ed and fellow gooners,
who do you guys reckon as a reliable reporter? Know a few name like Ballague and Ornstein, but who else?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Balague is close to Rafa, so he is not reliable always, just depends on if Rafa knows in the main. No reporter can be considered truly reliable, they have deadlines to meet and have to produce stories when there are times there just is nothing to report. Then they have to reach into the bag of conjecture. That is why we don't work that way.}

23 Jun 2015 07:02:14
I always get the impression the top Spanish clubs feed Guillem what they want the press to hear and he gets off on spouting it all as fact without considering the clubs agenda. For example we know from Ed002 Bale is available if anyone is willing to meet the asking price (silly money) but Balague has repeatedly told everyone there is no way Bale will be sold. He's technically not wrong but it is not as black and white as he portrays it.

22 Jun 2015 23:44:50
Maybe news is getting here slower but it's still only a rumour here that Cech will sign.
Remember the Higuain saga? He was here for sure but in the end he wasn't
Guys please let me know which English news paper I can trust or is the only real source Malaga?
He told me that there will be a insane switch in which we get Cech only to loan him immidiatly to Bayern and Neuer going the otherway
Keep the banter going

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Jun 2015 07:56:05
I think the Cech story has much more creditbility than the Higuain one.

Personal terms agreed, clubs just need to fix a price

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 07:58:24
To be fair we wanted th Higuain thing to be true so much we fed the rumours and each other, Since Mesut arrived and then Sanchez we have calmed down and become more objective.
For me Cech was always realistic because Ed002 has said for a time him joining us was doable and simple geography.
We are the only club other than chelseaa that allows him family stability plus champions league football
