anyone else getting worried about spurs's 26m spanish superstar. really depressing me every time he converts a chance. can see spurs winning everything if he keeps up this form. lol

olly giroud = twice the player, half the price.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

7 teams to contend so far. no one looks like a pushover. I guess we can only look at what's ahead of us and try and beat them.

I also expect the team that gets over 80 points this season will win the league. 83 in my estimate to win the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Compare someone in there second season with a team that has made 1 or 2 changes to someone 5 games in and playing in a team that has changed a lot this summer

Yeah that seems fair

Agree0 Disagree0

R91 it was a tongue in cheek comment. Giroud never started on fire. Was meant to be taken as banter. lakerville. Me and my mates do a tenner sweep every year to pick what point total will win the league. I've took 83. Hoping your right because I'm always wrong lol.

I said it last year to the almighty Chris Redman and if i'm not mistaken you AJH. its only a matter of time. luck can't go on forever.
--------
Hmm I enjoyed that laker, while were reminiscing about quotes last year it dnt u agree it was nice to see a city team u claimed has done everything the right way sticking it to the United?
You will get no excuses from me mate we were awful and tbh done well to get it 2 4-1, likewise u will also not see me proclaiming the end of an era or luck as u always so eloquently put it.
U won't see me jumping on no bandwagon after 5 games against relegation candidates even if we had lost one of those games at home claiming the end of one and beginning of another.
Dnt u worry boys we are united we will suck it up and move on because as u lot know so so well that's all you can do.
Will we win the league this season? Maybe, the season is 38 games long and like many seasons past, united will pick up a hell of a lot of points, I challenge any team in world football to have the start we have had and not to stutter at some point, this is by know means an excuse because for that there is none as I said we were awful!
Its been a hectic start to the season so far (even Liverpool were top for 2 weeks) with stuttering starts for most (city at Cardiff, chelsea at Everton and ure great selves at home to villa)
Even after all that we find ourselves just 5 points (yes only 5) off the top having already played Swansea away, Chelsea at home and Liverpool and city away, not the end of the world by anymeans lads even if your goddesses Malaga and Laker try and tell u otherwise.
Enjoy it lads while it lasts, u deserve a bit of a bright season after terrible ones u have had to endure recently, but I would be careful in writting us off just yet, because as stoner and Laker learned last season just before the Bradford game these things have a tendency to come back bite u on your rectum,
How does the old saying go?
''He who laughs last laughs longest"
Gd luck for the forth coming season I genuinely hope u do well.
P.s dnt think for second Laker I have forgot our conversation a year or so ago mate and we really dnt wanna go over old ground again do we? U lost that argument and will continue to do so, and I've noticed u have only recently in the last few months started to post regularly again after that debacle ;-)

The problem is, CTR, that this is the weakest united squad for about 20 years. The midfield is so poor, Rooney wants to leave, RVP is made of glass, your defence is ageing and slow, even your keeper can't take balls into the box without giving the fans a heart attack.
Chelsea will adapt to their new defensive system, city are already gelling and playing some great football. Arsenal are looking the most settled, having not changed the team apart from bringing in the player with the most assists in European football last season.
Our goalkeeper is finally playing competently to match his confidence, defence is one of the best in the league, midfield is arguably the best in the league (Cazorla and Arteta to come back still. ) and Giroud has been converting well.

Be honest, along with all other united fans, you're worried. Enjoy a decade of average football under a manager who was a poor choice. Ferguson has left that team in a bad way, he knew he was leaving at the right time.

Agree0 Disagree0

At the end of the day, United have a fair team - the issue is, City, Chelsea, Spurs and AFC probably have better, more creative teams. Unless Moyes can unearth a playmaker in the squad (Kagawa), then I think they may be in the race for the top four. It's competitive this year, but right through the league - easy win games are becoming a thing of the past.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yup the season is not 5 games long, i'm not laughing at another teams failure ( football did not start last year it won't end next year). just stating the obvious. we never defended (lack of spending)our own team when we had a lack of cohesion to throw down a serious challenge.

I was thoroughly impressed by Man city. you can call them what you like, a bunch of mercenaries and all. but the way they dominated the game was epic to watch. Perhaps its hard for you to take it mainly because they are rivals. but from a non utd supporter it was beautiful football.

I would like to see how we fare against them, when we face them. but I think they reserve their hatred for you guys so fair enough.

As I said the season is not 5 games long. still a lot to play, with international breaks, and injuries and new signings in the new window to alter a shift of power.

saying all that for me chelsea is still the team to beat. Mourinho is steadily building his back line. imposing his ideas, and when the nervy edge of the season begins, I feel he thrives the most. Wenger can inspire the same. but its always injuries with us.

7 teams in it. but whoever loses 4 games 1st will be out of it. that's my understanding. and perhaps for utd to not win the title this year is not a big ho ha, as you did last year.

The FA have issued a warning to Flamini, who apparently threatened Marc Wilson after he fouled Wilshere, saying "do it again and I will blind you."

Thats what you called friend.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We need that attitude protect our play makers & make sure those that like the animal that is Huth are aware they are being watched. Bullies always bottle.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is the best thing I've heard about Arsenal for years, I love Flamini for this, we've missed that attitude for to long!

Agree0 Disagree0

Worse things must get said between players all the time, poor wittle wobert hoof! Did he go tell the ref after?

Anyhow i'm sure it was just a language translation problem, maybe Flamini just said it was a 'blinding' tackle.

"Premier League football club Arsenal saw annual profits fall from £36.6m to £6.7m despite making £47m from selling Robin van Persie and Alex Song."

So if we had not sold the two we would be showing a 40 million loss! We are living on the scary edge. So do we have keep selling to keep our nose above the water?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We did sign Ozil for 42.4m. So we're fine.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil isn't included in these set of accounts. So expect a heavy loss next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't worry PL and CL titles as well as the World club cup all bring loads of dosh with them :-)

But seriously
Utd City Chelsea are all in a transitional period which could go either way for all of them and we are on the up.
Arsene would not spend what the club couldn't afford ( not keen to spend what we can afford :-) and the club wouldn't let him anyway.

Now is not the time to worry, now is the time to sit back and enjoy what we have all been waiting for

Agree0 Disagree0

Not really new sponsorship deals and a cash reserve of over 100mil says different!

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Sep 2013 19:50:19
I don't know why people are getting excited regarding transfers in Jan or after, Ozil was a one off due to commercial success we made 35Mill, also we have a Dept of 94M still outstanding, with 140M in the bank, so our cash flow is brilliant, but the finance ex of Arsenal said they stick by their principles of developing youth and will not be buying, i'm glad in a way that we don't get sucked into this new era of buy buy buy and hope for the best. let's build around our community and keep developing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What your saying hasn't worked since we went to ashburton grove so why would it work now? I agree with youth policy and local kids getting a chance but you still need at least 1 marquee signing a season to stay competitive and hopefully bring said youth players to a level better than we have at moment. Current squad already saying ozil presence is helping there overall game as would other marquee signings

Agree0 Disagree0

Developing players is brilliant but if we don't buy we don't compete and then players we brought through leave, its about balance and for to many years we have been lopsided.

We were a selling club and a feeder club to those above us, hurts to admit that but its true. Now we are looking like a club ready to do both buy and produce again and hey presto we look like challengers again

Well I must admit I did head over to the united forum to see how they were taking it.

and much has been said about their demise by some fans, some are pointing out they played some hard fixtures and lack only 5 points to the top, with a 5 game easy streak.

season does not end in 5 games and I can see the point.

its great we have a good start, and we need to pile the points when we can, we will eventually lose. but we cannot let our guard down against the teams outside the top 4. them we must beat.

As much as I respect utd for their success, they were throughly outclassed yest. I could not imagine, no balotelli and no tevez and some new signings had created such a team spirit they lacked last time.

Man city is a danger team, and while utd is still a top 4 team, I really do not see them winning the title this year. but the fears of them dropping off from top 4 maybe a bit premature.

So while city are being beasts, my prediction still stands and a lot may disagree. but the team to win the title will be chelsea.

looking at the stats and Oscars input especially in tackles and duels won, and defensive work, while almost being toe to toe with mata in offensive stats, I think mourinho is shaping this team the way he wants.

Counter attack.

i just hope we can keep steady. and keep fighting, while our injured come back, so we can put up a fight.

6 teams will fight it out but I expect us to still make top 4. let's hope we can pick up a trophy along the way too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My September top four prediction was, and still is.
1. Chelsea
2. Man City
3. Arsenal
4. Tottenham

United won an uncompetitive league playing probably the worst football of any recent champions. Without RVP they would have done little.

Fast forward to this season and they are continuing with that same brand of poor football, 4-1 against Swansea flattered them, dodgy decisions against Palace and Bayer helped them.

Players that were world class are no longer with the exception of RVP. They have so many players out of form or simply not good enough. It has gone under the radar but the keeper they have high hopes for has not looked great this year. Rafael who they hold in high esteem got owned by Chelsea and Madrid last season and is still learning.

Kagawa must rue leaving Dortmund and has done nothing or even been given much of a chance to do anything.

They have some talented youth and I don't mean Cleverley, but we know you have no guarantees with youth.

5 games in they cannot be discounted but they are the club for me most in danger of going backwards.

A previous reputation under a previous manager count for nothing and City with Hart, Kompany, Toure, Aguero, Silva, Dzeko, Navas, Negredo, Jovetic, Nasri etc will be the team to beat.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree, utd are not dead and buried but they do lack a creative player. man city scare the pants off me and chelsea look very very good. even spurs look good, very strong defensively, 1 goal conceded in 5 games.
same as you lakerville, if we finish in top 4 and pick up a cup I will be very happy. a good run in champs league will be an added bonus. basically, we have the backbone of a very very very very good team, we are just 1 or 2 players short from being the completed article, in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

As you know lakerville I have been over there a lot in the last 24 hours and for the 3 years I have been coming on here I was waiting for this opportunity.

the smugness of some of them is beyond belief.

i live in a country where 99% of supporters are utd.the majority of them only ever supported utd under ferguson.

i stood in a hotel bar in kerry in 2004 when keown did that lanky dutch c*** when he missed the penalty.
2 coach loads od american tourist even started to support US because I was the only gooner in the bar.YOU HAD TO BE THERE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!

THEY EMPLOYED A PROSPECT, I HOPE HE ENDS UP LIKE RAMOS DID AT THE SSPUDS.

SO I WILL ENJOY THIS MOMENT.

WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE WITH LOTS OF INJURYS.

I AM VERY PROUD OF EVERY 1 AT ARSENAL.

LONG MAY IT CONTINUE

EIE

Agree0 Disagree0

For me this current UTD squad has experience and Depth. but their main weapon is their Duo of RVP and Rooney.

Valencia, Nani, Young, Cleverly, Anderson, Fabio and Rafael are just not good enough. I would say those players are not good enough for Spurs.

However having players like Zaha, Shinji, Welbeck, Hernandez, and not playing them over those above. just means they are handicapping themselves.

In Jan to me we should make a move for Hernandez.

Oh my word, I could not have been happier last night!

Been away all weekend since friday afternoon, deliberately avoided hearing the scores til I got home late last night, couldn't believe what I came home to!

-Arsenal win
-Ramsey goal! Again, wtf! This guy is insane!
-Two defenders scoring!
-3 set-piece goals of sorts, that's like the last 10 years rolled into one game :D
-ARSENAL TOP OF THE LEAGUE!
-Man U getting totally dominated by City, I think this pleases me more than us being top, only because you cannot change that result! Love it
-Di Canio sacked at last! Cannot STAND that guy, I think he's an egotistical 'person', I'd hate to work under him in any capacity and it's clear the players hated him, so glad he's been sacked, imo there's no place for management like that, publicly condemning his team all the time. A great player he was, but a great man-manager he is not. Bye bye Di Canio!

What an unreal weekend away and what an incredible load of news to come home to. Only downer is spurs playing a really average game and still winning, that really does suck.

Great victories so far!

Swansea v Arsenal
West Brom v Arsenal
Arsenal v Norwich City
Crystal Palace v Arsenal
Arsenal v Liverpool

The next 5 games look tricky.
IMO if we win against Swansea, I'll be fully convinced we are title contenders.
Swansea are a tough shell to break especially when they're playing at home.
I really hate to make predictions or underestimate any of our opponents, but we are flying at the moment and I believe we will squeeze a victory.
As some of you said we should rest some of the first team players.
Saturday is a massive game for us IMO.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

IMO playing Swansea away suits us better than playing at home. They will attack us. Hopefully Walcott will be fit. If so we can just soak up pressure and break quickly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Swansea is a tricky game for any team but its a game where champions win and serious contenders don't lose. I'm not saying we will be champs if we win or we won't if we lose but it will be a good indicator of how far we have come.
A certain LB for the invincibles once said " I know the time has to come where this team loses but I just can't see it happening"and I knew exactly what he ment
I'm not saying I feel that way yet but I believe more now than I have for years

I meant to post this with the bit about Gnabry but forgot. Was on the Uefa website yesterday and they had a spot for team of the week and a certain Keiran Gibbs was in it.

Big up to him. Showing some great form.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Will be interesting if he keeps it up and stays fit, To see who hodgson picks for the wc.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Sep 2013 11:27:59
I would just like to say how impressed I was with Gnabry on Sunday, never got forced off the ball once by any of their big men, stayed calm and looked dangerous, the best bit, he pretty much got straight up after being all but clothes lined by that thug Huth. Can you imagine how long Theo would have been on the deck. Lol. Gnabry is a tank!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah mate, I was especially pleased with the home crowd chanting his name and supporting him through out the game. That can do wonders for his confidence.

Agree0 Disagree0

That tackle was absolutely shocking, I couldn't believe it! I've only seen the highlights as I was away all weekend, can't remember if he got carded or not, but imo a block like that should be a red card offence. It's one thing to be running at pace and clatter into someone and earning yourself a free kick - or to be ran into and concede - which we see all the time. But that block, I mean he set himself for it and deliberately took out a kid with a shoulder charge to the chest, it's disgraceful. And I don't think saying 'well if he isn't big enough or tough enough to handle the prem yet then he shouldn't play' is at all relevant, it was imo serious foul play and fully intentional, refs really need to stamp that out of the game. I was impressed with Gnabry yesterday, from the highlights anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree about the tackle- you see people getting sent off for very little these days and yet the really dangerous is rarely dealt with in proportion.

wed team against west brom. we need to rest our big guns. too many games. too thick and fast.

Ramsey, Flamini, wilshere, Ozil, giroud, walcott, sczesny, Per, gibbs.

These guys should not play on Wed. if at all we have to have any on the bench, Ozil, ramsey and flamini should be kept in reserve.

Emiliano Viviano / Fabianski to duke it out for starting GK position.

Jenks, Kos, Verm, Nacho the back line.

Arteta and Frimpong in the middle.

Gnabry, Zelalem, Ryo

Bendtner / Sanogo

just hold fort, play counter and try to keep it 0-0 until half time. if we can take the game and introduce our super sups we should do it later.

if we have the game wrapped up we don't use them, if we have lost the game, we don't use them.

for me the carling cup would be the best shot at a trophy. but with the from and position we are in the league. that should be a priority. keep as many healthy players as possible away from carling cup games. where tackles fly in left right and center.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't know about you I want to win this cup, so i'd rather we play a strongish team. West brom are no pushovers.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the resting of key players, but this has the ingredients to be a potential banana skin.

Feels good to have Vermaelen, Arteta and Nacho back for their first starts ofthe season. These games are ideal for them and the likes of Jenkinson, Cazorla and Podolski (when back to full fitness). For these are the games that will give you the opportunity to earn your place in the startin 11 back

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I can understand we want to win the cup. but we can't risk more injuries. theo being out just means we are getting thinner and thinner.

perhaps a blend of both. with Arteta and verm coming in to give some much needed rest for ramsey and per possibly.

with nacho and jenks giving gibbs and sagna some rest.

we know giroud won't be starting. and i'm guessing ozil either.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Sep 2013 14:03:15
It will be good to get a look at Viviano but would like to see our midfield a bit stronger, possibly even start with Ozil as he is still getting up to speed.

Dont want to see Wilshere or Giroud play and whilst Bendtner is still here we might as well see what he's got. Much as I think he has let himself down as well as us, he's in the squad so make use.

At least Arsene will get to see if he really is worth the bother. It'll be ideal for Gnabry to have another start and build on Sunday, he could be great for rotation as the season progresses and in general terms too.

I have a feeling Rambo may be in the starting 11.

Agree0 Disagree0

Isn't Zelalem still injured?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I don't believe West Brom will up to full strength either.
Don't they play Manchester United this weekend?

Agree0 Disagree0

Always amazed (annoyed) by how little esteem the Arsenal supporters around here have for their own team. Look at Lakerville's so called hold the fort/weak team. West Brom would kill to have any of the 11 in their side - we are going to attack them and hopefully put them away. If anything we have to protect against the counter - c'mon guys grow some!

Agree0 Disagree0

Whither Eisfeld? Is he injured? He rarely seems to register on the news or suggested players or as possible squad player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Zalalem's out for about 2 months :/

Maybe only about 5 weeks of that left.

Lakerville I know what you're getting at about resting players, but if there's one thing we learned from pre-season, it's that we can carry one or two youth or inexperienced/not great quality players in the starting 11 made up of senior players, but when we go for all out change, not much happens. They don't defend well as a unit, certainly don't put in that extra little bit to get over the line, and struggle to break down senior teams. That team you set out would get torn apart by West Brom! Regardless of the defence. The whole team needs to defend, and every time we changed say 4 or 5 players from seniors to youth we just looked so under par. I wouldn't think they would beat sunderland right now, let alone West Brom!

But I do agree we should see a decent mixture one way or another, just ease them. Like the back 5 of Viviano, Jenko, Kos, Verm and Nacho would be good. Arteta will likely be off the pace so maybe Jack and Flamini to start in the pivot, with Rosicky starting if he's fit? He can come off for Ozil. Arteta can come on for Jack or Flamini, as could Frimpong. But I think we'd be best off starting strong. I don't know, I just have very little confidence in our youth players like Ryo when they're playing strong senior teams. Injuries will probably force our hand a fair bit though. But they shouldn't need resting, a game on sun, weds then sat/sun isn't exactly overloading.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lakerville, totally agree with your team selection. good shout

Agree0 Disagree0

Yup my apologies. zelalem is still injured. along with sanogo. and akpom

i would like to see verm and kos play CB and see how they pair up.

nacho and jenks for the fullbacks to rotate gibbs and sagna.

giroud should not play unless we are in trouble.

wilshere will definitely get a rest. and i'm guessing Arteta along with frimpong is likely.

the midfield of gnabry and ryo with bendtner upfront is also likely.

so the no10 role will either be Ozil or rambo.
