Arsenal need 4 super quality signings.

Begovic (12m)
Wanyama (18m)
Hummels (25m)
Jovetic (20m)

Begovic

Jenkinson Hummels Vermaelen Monreal

Wanyama Wilshere

Walcott Cazorla Podolski

Jovetic

Believable19 Unbelievable1

Agree with you and your choices, they would improve our first team and the squad would look much stronger if we can keep the players who are displaced, I would however like to ad one more defensive midfielder as I believe we would need two throughout the season.

Agree2 Disagree0

Why Monreal. I prefer Gibbs and Also buy Höwedes

Agree2 Disagree3

Monreal can actually defend, Gibbs can't, and Monreal is all round better and more experienced, that's why Monreal

1 question though. why Jenkinson?

Wana-is very overpriced more like 10mill max,
however;your players you picked are very good.

I'd play Jov behind Giroud and have two goalscoring wingers by their side.

Laudrup for Arsenal? I'd say yes and here's why.
- he's a legend. As a player one of the best of his generation. No prima Dona can say they are better than he was.
- he's charismatic. He conducts himself professionally and is smart and articulate.
- he's proved he's astute in the transfer market. Michu is the best signing of the season. All other signings / loans ave proved to be excellent
- his team play great football. When Swansea lost Allen, Sinclair and graham most thought Swansea would struggle, but they are better than they are last year.
- he's young
-he's lucky
- he's Michael Laudrup! This is sort of covered in point 1 but come on - Michael Laudrup, godlike genius who has won everything. As a player, who can not be inspired by him?

Great results for us this weekend, Everton and Chelsea losing. I don't understand why people are calling for Laudrup as our manager? He hasn't had a full season and the pressure difference and exposure difference between managing us and Swansea is immense. Yes he has won the Capitol cup, this season we had 2 freak results in the cups look at the records first time losing to lower league opposition. let's put it some context, we have struggled this through inconsistencies and lack of confidence. We get berated in the press for the slightest mistake. Yet we're still right there with spuds. Individual errors costing us every time. Yet every player in our team is an international, form is temporary. You don't be a multiple capped international without being good. Are they all top world class? No but then who's squad is? Start of this season our defence was lauded as brilliant and solid, yet through mistakes and drop in confidence we now suffer.
We have some massive games coming up, I hope we play our strongest 11 in them all. We have no need to rest players. There young, fit and should be hungry to play. Bayern are a level up from us at present but they also recently went through a dip and spent a few seasons under achieving so.
Wenger must cut ties with Diaby this season, we can't afford him in the squad anymore. He is now taking up a place I would prefer to see filled with Eisfield or Gnabry.

Believable13 Unbelievable7

He hasn't had a full season and has already won more trophies than us in the last 8

Why not, he will be a big improvement on the clueless Arsene. As for the step up Mr. Wenger was managing in Japan when he got this job so.

Hummels-17mil (clause I heard)
gundogan/capoue- 15mil
or vidal/fellaini-20-25mil
goetze/jovetic/el sheraaway- 20-30mil
preference- hummels, vidal, goetze

Agree5 Disagree4

I woul want jovetic, Hummels and De Rossi! 70 mil should just cover that!

Van Persie. Fabregas and Pires

Agree0 Disagree11

What about a goalie

Limerick Gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't know who but: decent keeper with experience, defensive midfielder, striker and a winger.

Probably a young right back to challenge Jenkinson.

Promote some of the youth also.

I think the centrebacks are okay if they are protected a bit better plus better training.

SY4

Just two for me Falcao and Gotze, if a third is a must I would get a DM.

i would play Walcott and Pod up front against the spurs Walcott's pace will frighten their center backs and pod will score if he gets a chance he is our most natural finisher. What do people think?

Limerick Gunner

Believable14 Unbelievable4

I agree but then don't know who to put on the wings if Pod is not there as Ox is not up to the job

SY4

Agree6 Disagree0

I would try the ox and santi

Agree0 Disagree2

I think you are 100% right on the Podolski, he is our best finisher, has great vision, quick thinking, great on the ball and great movement. so what can't understand is why he never finishes a game he starts, or he is benched. what does Arsene see or not in him, i'm sure minutes played to goals/assists he is going to be top yet he is constantly over looked always the first to be subbed.
Been a few games were we have been playing some really nice stuff on the floor and Giroud can't cope with it, pace and technically and that's when Podolski should be played up front.

Some of you really make me laugh, do you really think Wenger runs this club? Yes we haven't had a great season, yes we didn't spend in the transfer window, but come on. Wenger doesn't decide how much we pay for a player, or how much we pay that player.
Wenger is what is known as a fallguy, do you really think the board would have stood for this, for this long if Wenger wasn't doing exactly what he was told?
tbh I think it's admirable that after all the crap he's had to take over the years from some fans that he's kept his mouth shut. I mean come on, he's not going to come out with "I wanted to buy him, him and him in the summer but the board wouldn't let me"
There are more important aspects of this club that need addressing before the manager!
Be very careful what you wish for!

I'm sure I'm not the first to think it but wouldn't Michael Laudrup make a great fit for us. The style of football and the way he conducts himself. The man has class!

JayJay

Believable10 Unbelievable4

Until at 3-0 up he dictates that Dyer on a hatrick doesn't take the penalty (his players have no team spirit to ignore that), he then subs him when he began to try harder instead of getting him to ease back a little, he didn't look classy he clearly showed contempt for the man of the match. I think little issues like that can cause problems long term!

Spurs (a) Everton (h) then Bayern and Swansea

Do you play a full side and forget the Champions League game? Or risk injuries and rest players?

If we put a second rate team out against Bayern - how do the travelling fans feel? What message does it send out to big players we need to sign next season? It's just a 2 nil deficit but what if we get players injured for the forthcoming games.

Thoughts?

I say play the first team against Bayern and if need be make changes at alf time as we are the Arsenal and have to compete in every game and wear the shirt with pride.

We had a similar dilemma for Blackburn game and I think we put a good enough team out. We should have won.

If we want to beat Bayern - go with Theo plus one up front, be it Giroud or Pod.

SY4 {Ed027's Note - Correct me if i'm wrong, the Everton game will be moved if they reach the 1/4 finals of the Fa Cup, thats gives us extra time to prepeare for Munich

Laudrup for Arsenal, why he had the brains to go into the final with a full squad and resting nearly all his stars from the liverpool match.

Shame wenger had no brains the tues before playing stoke away and fab/walcott being injured

Believable4 Unbelievable5

Whilst I agree with your principle we had to balance the Final with the league aim of a champions league place whereas Swansea have more chance of winning the fianl than making the Europa league through the Capital One Cup. really a no brainer, if they were lying in 4th or 5th would luadrup have doen the same? who knows but Wegner would have been as bad burned or scalded. Personally I just want us to win things but manay would prefer the Champs league qualification

Out: Sagna, Rosicky, Arshavin, Squid, etc etc. and maybe Vermaelen? Can you be stripped of the armband and still perform with total commitment?

In: Ogbonna, Capoue, Van der Wiel, and a ST (my bet being David villa)

Believable3 Unbelievable4

We need to keep experience

Keep Rosicky and Sagna as they can add to the squad and add experience - looks at Giggs at Utd

SY4 {Ed027's Note - Giggs wants to stay, and is motivated to play, unlike Sagna, did i mention Giggs is Class

Agree3 Disagree1

Rosicky? yes he gets injured a lot but is still around enough to make an impact. often out of the team due to his place in the pecking order rather than injury. H ehas been loyal whilst not getting as much game time as he deserves.

Agree4 Disagree0

I say Rosicky only because he still has some value in the market.

I love him at Arsenal and would be sad to see him leave.

Sagna has lost interest and is a shell of himself.

Agree4 Disagree2

Ed, are you saying Sagna and Rosicky are not class? Rosicky has a role to play and can change games. Sagna has been first name on team sheet for a while. Struggling due to leg breaks and probably a little frustrated at not being offered a longer contract renewal - does that make him a bad player?

A lot of fans moaned at how we treated Pires etc.

Giggs is also adding medals to his cabinet.

SY4 {Ed027's Note - Rosicky when fit is class, Sagna is short of class, he may be the first on the team sheet but he's also been the worst this season on many occasions, his best perfromabce was as a CB, his head is no there and he needs to be dropped, once he crooses the halfway line he is clueless

Agree4 Disagree0

24 Feb 2013 17:54:41
Lets put £12m for Gervinho into context: he'd just won the French double, team in CL and scored 36 goals with 16 assists in two seasons.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

If only stats brought performances.

Agree3 Disagree0

12m is a good squad player and first teamer - not a world class player.

He had good stats and lives up to his price tag especially if played on wing. I thought he was good when playing with RVP as he gave us pace and width. A few stupid decisions yes but he was only 12m.

If he was a Mata, he would have been 30m.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Feb 2013 17:47:05
I reckon we should go for Ashley Williams.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Agree, he's been superb.

I actually think we made a big mistake letting Bartley go too. He has stepped in several times for Swansea and played like a regular starter - exactly what other teams get from their back ups and exactly what we don't get. I'd have them both for sure!

Agree6 Disagree3

Didn't even make the bench today.

Whose contracts expire in the summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fabianksi, Eastmond, Squillaci, dunno any others {Ed027's Note - Roiscky, Arshavin, possibly Mannone, a few people have said Frmipong too, Watt is also leaving

Agree3 Disagree1

Ed027 are you sure Rosisky's contract is expiring because I remember him signing a two year extension last season. I might be wrong though. {Ed027's Note - nope i'm not sure, we usually offer players over 30 one year deals, and i thought becasue of his injry record he would of got just the year, but the BBC have said it was two years, so you could be right, though they also siad Theo's deal was 3 1/2 years, whilst Arsenal say it's long term, so i'm really not sure

19th May, away from home we play Newcastle and will no doubt be in need of 3 pts. This of course is the post January transfer window Newcastle.

Guess some clubs were able to find players better than those they had and to help their cause.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Did Newcastle sign Martin Fulop in the January transfer window by any chance.

Agree2 Disagree0

Totally agree with you. Wenger had the money and the chance to buy in the summer and winter windows. He chose not to. We have been dumped out of all cups, and face a tough fight for fourth. I can't believe people are believing the rumours that he will spend 70 million in the summer. This is simply a ploy to placate the fans, and renew your season tickets people. Stan kroneke was there yesterday, he would have seen the empty seats.

Agree3 Disagree3

You could also look on the flipside, in January some good players were available, they would improve the squad but the top drawer players weren't. so would prefer we spent money on a temporary stop gap which might take time to bed in? This would mean the players we can get in the summer are more limited, it's not Football Manager were you can buy a good player now and replace him in 6 months time, we'd be waiting 3 years to step up then

Agree3 Disagree1

24 Feb 2013 19:31:00
Flip side is the squad needs some serious purchases in the summer, which include replacing some current 1st teamers.

That's without the getting rid of the crop of players in the squad who bring absolutely zero to the 1st team and are unusable.

Newcastle purchased some quality at a good price, the kind we need as squad players without the big buys we need in the summer.

That's my point.

Agree2 Disagree0

I know what you are saying but I really think barring Monreal the real targets i. e. top drawer weren't available so he took a gamble to wait which is hopefully long term gain, if he fails it will be because he didn't simply solve the short term problem by buying Diame and Ba which would mean not going back in for Capoue and Jovetic or similar in the summer

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Feb 2013 08:25:07
No I definately feel we have to go back in for those type of players, wasn't a great fan of Ba but think M'bia would of been a worthy purchase at least. We do have a lot of squad places to fill, not all are going to be £20 million plus but at least 3 need to be.

Our overall squad has just become so weak. Eisfeld would look like the only U21 who will step up.

just a quick question.

who'd be prepared to give wenger a final chance if we do manage to get in cl and we splash the cash?

Believable14 Unbelievable4

Chelsea just got beat, so if we can beat the spurs next week we will be back on for 3rd, if we get 3rd then why would we change AW?

He has steered us through the period where we could not really compete financially and now we can again he deserves another season, providing he spends!

Agree8 Disagree2

Was making the point the last day that he should and he seems to be backing himself into a corner. If we do make champions league and he don't splash the cash we are supposed to have now we know then that he is the one talking bull for sure and he must go but let's give him an opportunity to do it.

Dave 6

Agree2 Disagree1

I love it when people say that, we should beat this team and we should beat that team, and then maybe we will be in 3rd. there is a very good reason why we aren't in the top at the 4 and haven't been. its because we don't beat that team and we didn't beat that team.

Hopefully come 6 o'clock next Sunday we will be in 4th position and that will be a great building platform, Hopefully

1404

Agree5 Disagree1

Funny I was thinking something similar yesterday. Would I want us to finish 4 and Wenger stayed or 5th and Wenger left.
I'd take 4th spot because I always want Arsenal to finish higher up in the table as possible with added bonus that this would stop Spurs or Chelsea claiming a champions league spot.

Iv picked up a couple of famous people in my cab, one was Phil Thompson. Lovely guy. He told me when he was at Liverpool and they were trying to buy Gareth Barry, Wenger made a 14.5 million pound bid for Xabi Alonso. They wanted 17. The man didn't budge. That's Xabi Alonso. {Ed027's Note - True story, my dad never shuts up when Madrid/Spain play, 'Arsenal should/could of had him

Believable0 Unbelievable2

I doubt that Wenger really decides. Maybe he could have threaten the board to leave if they wouldn't buy who he wants, but except that it is childish, it wouldn't have worked and wenger would be gone for a while now. God knows where we'd be now without him. My guess is that we would be looking at Liverpool with envy, which is saying a lot. Wenger is not all white, nobody is, but he's loyal and carries the burden that the board put on his shoulders without complaining.

Stan

Agree7 Disagree4

Back in the day, Dein would have asked Wenger who do you want?
And he would have done the negotiations. There were rumours that Wenger was furious he felt Dein had over paid on players. In my opinion at the moment Wenger has all the say. If he wanted an extra couple of million to buy Mata or Alonso the board would have given it. If he wanted 54 million to buy Cavani then maybe not.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Feb 2013 14:35:00
Ed what changes do you see happening in the future at the club? {Ed027's Note - i see us moving the deadwood regardless of our end position, then i can see a few decent players coming in regardless, just solid players who do the job. Then if we get that 4th spot i guarentee the transfer record will be smashed, Arsenal wanted to splash in January, but clubs would'nt sell them the players, summer is the time. i expect chnages in staff, not wenger though, changes in the backroom like bouldy is out for certain imo. also with the new emirates deal done, the nike deal also needs to be sorted, addidas looks likely as not only has nikes image been dented by fellow sportsmen, they're under paying us. Also epect moves from Usmanov, but it remains to be seen if he will buy out Kroenke.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Won't miss Nike there clobber isn't the best of designs or construction.

Agree6 Disagree2

BA And Ed did you see the Nike mock up of their new away kit? Literally just a yellow polo shirt with a nike tick on one pec and the arsenal badge on the other. That's some £4 sports direct crap right there. Embarrassing. It's like they don't want the deal. The worst thing is it would have taken a 16 yr old intern to create an amazing mock up - wtf are they thinking? Plus Adidas want to offer us obscene money (considering we've won jack all and don't have massive shirt sellers e. g. Tevez, Aguero etc) so really can't understand the lack of effort from Nike. {Ed027's Note - Nike will sponsor Man City in 2014, so i think they are willing to let us go, and i'm happy alsong as we get more money in

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2013 14:34:29
The transfer window is open and iv got the chance to buy Juan Mata and Gary Cahill. For one reason or an other, I let them slip away and I end up buying Per Mertesecker and Gervinho. Either we bring back David Dein who can complete these deals or change manager. I love Wenger, but he dithers. Btw we need to get rid of Dick Law he can't negotiate for rubbish! {Ed027's Note - Negotiation team has been awful, missed out on too many players

Heard a very interesting point from Paul Merson the other day. He said there's no point sacking Wenger, even though he. created this mess its his mess to sort out and would be unfair to dump these problems on a new manager. To be completely honest without the backing of the board and shareholders, no manager could get us back to the top in a short period. Mourinhio maybe the only man who could do so but he brings short term success and turmoil to follow. Just look at Inter Milan and now Real Madrid.

Wenger has clearly not being helped by the board. He built a great squad after the invincibles era but they were all allowed to leave. Fabregas, Clichy, Nasri, Toure, Van Persie, Adebayor, Song. Say what you like but these were or still are top and even world class players. Wenger has had rebuild a second time. Had the core of our previous squad stayed we would have won trophies. I believe Wenger can sort out this mess as long as himself and the board learn from mistakes of the past 3-4 years.

This current squad as a good core and with further additions and keeping our best players it can be one of Europes elite. Szeszecncy, Gibbs, Wilshere, Ox and Walcott. All these players can be world class in 2-3 years time but marquee signings are needed. Cazorla and Podolski is a step in the right direction but we need more. If a top RB, CB, CDM and ST were brought in over the next 2 windows we would challenge for titles once again. Unfortunatly there are just as many problems on the pitch. Our defending as a unit, formation and mentality really need sorting out.

Get our best players tied down on long term deals, make Wilshere captain, get in top players, purge the unwanted elements and GET RID OF KROENKE. Wenger can and will turn it around, he needs support of the players, board and most importantly the fans.

Thanks for reading. Keep up the good work Eds

I didn't mind Bendtner he got quite afew goals. But Giroud has come and scored 14 goals in a debut season and gets more assists. Some games he has high work rate and fails to score? Hello Ed and fellow Gooners, bottom line 3pts but performance wise average, Shezza really needs to up his game, but needs competition 4 his spot which he hasn't got. Theo was poor and has been since his new contract and that is dissappointing very dissappointing. Jack once again head and shoulders above anybody on the park including Santi. As for the reaction to the winner I obviously did not see it til I see it on Sky Football First and Oxs reaction to Santi winner compared to Jenko, s was the opposites ends of the enjoyment scale, but make of that what you will. Next up the people 3PTS IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY. How we do it is not a concern, I don't care if we the score the winner with a deflection of the refs arse with the last kick of the match 3PTS ARSENAL 3TS. I have promised myself no more slagging of AW till the end of the season (his reaction to Santi, s winner yesterday was heart on the sleeve stuff. ) take care everyone, and let's hope we get the results we want from now and till the end of the season.

Spurs are a one-man team. when Bale plays well the rest of the team do. Reminds me a little of us when a certain Dutch striker was among the ranks. However, we play a more team-dynamic game now, no one superstar to carry us but we play together. We may not always play the way we should but a few more GOOD siginings that play FOR the team, not the individual and we will be pushing for trophies.

Looks like a few people need to cut Wenger a little slack as his hands have been tied since the move as a lot of us thought.

He is still a winner and had a tough time with stick from everywhere for not winning but kept his mouth shut in the interest of the club

He did not get fired because he did exactly as the board wanted.

Sure he has made mistakes just like everyone and every manager but I still have faith.

We are all Gooners after all. Here's to trophies next season

He's made too many inexcusable mistakes - both tactically as well as off the pitch.
we are out of every competition and its not even March, which is pathetic if it happens once but this is about the 5th season now where this has happened,
long and short of it is we are no longer competative and this is down to the manager and the decisions he makes

Wenger out at the end of the season please.

Nil-nil at home is not a disaster. his words.

The guy has lost the desire to win. Completely filled with mediocrity which is evident everywhere from transfer market to tactics to press conf.

Against the best team in Europe who had not conceded a goal away from home - nil nil would not have been a disaster as I always fancy us to score a goal be it home or away

He never said it was the target but nil nil would not be a disaster especially as they would not have an away goal

Think about the statement

i really believe that west ham could get a result against the spurs on monday night even if it's a draw that's good enough and I don't know why but i've got a good feeling that we will get a result next week.
i know top 4 is not what we just want but if we do and spurs end up fifth at least that will shut them up and they will lose the one foot wonder, (bale). I get it bad because most of my pals are spurs lol.
it'll be interesting if we do get in champions league because there's that so called 70 million war chest available for the summer

gooner mark

Any team can beat the spuds, they are useless. Apart from Bale, they are very average players.
We will get 4th no problem.

I thought today was a pretty good game, however; it was bad for the heart.
We could have one by a few more goals today.
Wenger/Bold really need to sort out the set piece
situation. Every team we have a corner teams nearly score from it setting up the counter attack really nicely for them. 90% off the time it's 3v2 (cb) and with 'BigMerts' slow pace it's basicly 3v1
leaving TV5 all by his-self.

I think we should change formation to 4231, yes
we played this form about a month ago and we won, however;now coq and Diaby are injured and we don't have no reconised cdm's to go there.
Sign Wanayma and Capoue Wenger!

Looking like this
