With Higuain gone, if we miss out on Suarez then I'd go all out for Soldado.

G95 {Ed052's Note - I fear he may have gone by the time Luis has gone. I can't think if other options either although Giovinco would suit. }

Hi Eds,
I am a bug fan of this site and love the work you do but Who is ED052? I can see he is a Liverpool fan and if he is then he should manage and edit on the liverpool page. Arguing on each and every post is very childish and being an editor he should be managing unbiased if he were given the task of moderating our post.
Or is it that all people related Liverpool have their own baggage? :)
SM {Ed052's Note - an Ed. if you don't want me to answer questions aimed at me fine. If you want me to leave all the posts so you have nothing to read. Fine. No other clubs seem to have the same problems with me some posters here d. Many here tho appreciate me doing work on this site however}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I feel it makes the site better having a non arsenal supporting ed joining in. gives another perspective and also add's to the banter until people here start taking it too far.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't mind the odd whiners Ed. Hate for another Ed to leave because of it. I don't mind you at all and couldn't care less what team you support. You are doing a great job mate. Keep it up and ignore the haters. {Ed052's Note - thanks I don't care about the abuse but people saying they don't want me; then they won't get any answers!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey bug fan, if each page was just covered by fan's how would you get any un-biased opinions on things, in truth it wouldn't be a banter site just a big gay love in or maybe that's what you are into. Anyway keep up the good work eds! {Ed052's Note - Thanks bud}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed 052
you do great work here, as so do all the other eds, 027 and 002 and the rest.
thanks! keep up the good work, I feel almost everyone here appreciate greatly all you do

I called the 40m bid before anyone else, do a search if you can't remember. I recommend the one's who clicked 'unbelievable' to listen to me this time. Suarez WILL hand in a transfer request, which will be reported by the majority of news outlets at the start of next week. Over the next few days, Suarez's representatives will hastle Liverpool. Suares is VERY keen to join. The scousers who don't believe this move will happen crack me up.

Just to make it clear

Bernard
Cesar
Suarez
Kondogbia
Ginter

All close to joining Arsenal come Friday/Sat - Suarez, Bernard could be Arsenal players.

Kondogbia and Cesar we've been in contact for a while we have offered a solid offer to Cesar and Kondogbia however we're still deciding whether to bid for him.

Bernard will be decided on Friday it would seem, many are now saying Porto whilst most sources in Brazil still say Arsenal.

Suarez is reportedly to submit a fomal transfer request tomorrow whilst a finalized deal could be done by the weekend.

Fabregas is a possibility and would most likely rule out the arrival of Kondogbia or another DM for that matter.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ok mate, we've heard it all before.

Like your optimism, but cannot see it myself, not confident enough to sign off though and take credit when happens

The reason we have made more of an effort with Fellaini is that we still believe we may have a chance with Cesc later in the window,

Darren Dein has been speaking to Arsenal about a possible return, have you ever asked yourself why MU have kept coming back with bids? its because Darren has been encouraging them to.

MU wouldn't of kept bidding if they thought what Barca were telling them is true,

Cesc will be a AFC player again, my heart says now, head says next season.

Can't see Rooney favouring us over Chelsea unless his friendship with Jack theo and The ox comes into play. I can see him living in Wimbledon which has easy access to the A3 to the Chelsea training the ground in Surrey. That's where Ballack and Gallas lived when they played at Chelsea. Km

We have been crying out for the board to spend big on players for years. Some people are now saying 40 or 50 million is a bit much for one player?

40 or 50 is the going rate for top, top players. Am I the only Gooner who is ecstatic that we are finally putting our money where our mouth is?

We supposedly have 70-80 mill to spend on transfers, we have a shed load of wages freed up.

50 for Suarez, 10 for Williams, 20 for Bender. Those three signings would see us take a very long stride towards the title.

If we don't go for broke this season and really try and go for the league, we might as well accept our fate as top four candidates.

All the teams above us last year have got new managers, I'm hoping there's a transitional period. Maybe not an 8 year one that our stadium move has thrown at us, but possibly a season or two transition. {Ed052's Note - you don't have to spend a lot to get a very good player. }

24 Jul 2013 22:29:28
Hi ed, got to say I think we musn't get involved in a bidding war with Liverpool over Suarez. Let them kee him, 40 mill is too much for a player with undoubted talent, volatile and erratic temperament and only using arsenal as a way out of Liverpool. Given the choice, he would choose any major Spanish or Italian club over us. I would much rather we spend the 70 or so million we are alleged to have on four emerging talents. Investing so much on one player ordinarily ends up proving a damp squib. Let Liverpool deal with this unhappy soul and go and find another player. Bernard, kondogbia, remy, Williams and begovic would be nice fits and strengthen our squad nicely. Thanks ed. Ray barboni {Ed052's Note - I agree. Top thinking. It's just sensible. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ibrahimovich is a great player but I feel he's getting on a bit for the price tag.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that:

1. It's spelled Wenger
2. No, his wages are too high for his age and he would command too high of a transfer fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see us getting Suarez. Wenger really wants him and we have the cash.
No chance on Ibra, too old- he's 32 in October

Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

If he'd be willing he should be priority signing but don't see him coming here

Ibra usually means you win the league

Look at his record

Agree0 Disagree0

He is being paid in the region of £48m/year.

After 75% tax that's £12m.

We can't afford him {Ed052's Note - Why would they pay 75% tax?}

Liverpool have got their buddy Graham Souness all over the popular sports news channel to literally Beg Real Madrid to Outbid Arsenal. I Really hate RM at the moment.

You should hear Souness. He said words to the effect of 'Suarez is not a Wenger player and he would prefer to go to spain where they speak his 1st language and IF Real Madrid were to come in for him seeing as the Higuain deal is about to be tied up, it would be very hard for liverpool to refuse!

Everything he said is very tue, infact spot on but you HAVE to ae and hear it to realise its a blatent plea.

Im worried that our hostile approach to snatch suarez is going to force Liverpool to sell Suarez to RM at a cut price. Meaning Real get an even better deal! Grrrrr

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Brendan Rodgers says that Liverpool have no intention to sell Luis Suarez.
If Liverpool got offered £55 million, same as Cavani, they still might not even sell.
Something drastic will need to happen for Liverpool to lose Luis Suarez.

I think that means Luis Suarez would have to put in a transfer request.
Then either Arsenal or Real Madrid would have to pay over £50 million.

Luis Suarez first choice appears to be Real Madrid as he's mentioned playing with Ronaldo.
Arsenal is the alternative option as Luis Suarez has mentioned he's flattered by the interest.

Arsene Wenger clearly wants a striker because he went for Gonzalo Higuain but missed out and is offering £40 million for Luis Suarez.
Real Madrid clearly want a striker because they have just sold Gonzalo Higuain and are preparing a bid for Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes that is a great idea, win win if it's true and fairplay for realizing it

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger didn't miss out on Higuain, he
is a man of principle, not many left in the world, and our money strengthen's Madrid.

If you agree a deal and then the seller decides to quote you another £15m or so before offering the player to someone else for less than the increase he demanded of you, you have to be a real desperate piece of turd to want to give that person your money. I take my hat off to Wenger, he's risked yet again the wrath of the fans and it's always 'all his fault' when decent people would seal Real acted like w4nkers and we were right to take our business elsewhere. Now Higuain gets to play in front of 3000 people in empty ass stadiums while whoever we bring to the Emirates plays at a fortress and becomes a hero. I didn't see Higuain asking Madrid to be sold to us, did you? But no, let's blame Wenger. We walked away, we haven't missed out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Luis Suarez will leave Liverpool I have no doubts about that. Whether its to us is a different matter.

G95

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't want to see more than 30m spent on Higuain. I think even at 30m that's an escalation of his value and similar players, so although it would've been good to see him come. not at Napoli's price. I dunno if it is principle or pragmatism, but either way, Wenger seems to have his ceiling on players values and in this case I think he's right.

I remember a certain United midfielder name of JS Veron where they overpaid for quality, but ultimately not universally world class, player who didn't fit the bill for EPL or United. Higuain has a bit of that feeling to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Top post Metal, Arsenal and Wenger have to much class and we wouldn't loose that to madrid. And I really don't think we are that desperate for a striker, but we are desperate for a game changer and the only one available is Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jul 2013 21:43:06
Trying to read abit into this suarez bid and I think wenger has acted very smart with the bid, that extra 1 pound allows us to open talks with the player, therefore we can find out if suarez would move to us and what his wage demands are. if wenger doesn't see this as acceptable he still got one day to agreee a fee with RM for higuain (he did ask for 2 days on tuesday before he finalises with napoli) am I clutching at straws or could there be something in this?

I fear that we may be hanging onto the bait we attempted to feed real. Suarez was not meant to be target in my opinion. As i'v said before I don't believe Bernard will come. And I am gutted we lost out on Higuain. Will be an intresting week for the gooners. Because I think we would not just let Higuain go if we did not have another option.

What is the question.

They have never won the Premiership, the last time they won the league was 1990.

I respect LFC's history but I do not see them as rivals. I see Everton, Spurs etc as rivals and if we sign a few players I will also see City, Utd and Chelsea. I am not ignorant or arrogant enough to think we will win the league.

We have had an awful few years but also very close to silverware. Stupid game at Birmingham, playing youth team ( which I support ) in league cup final, final against Birmingham and a few poor runs with injuries. This has weakened further in last two years. However, I always believed we would finish about Liverpool and Spurs despite your spending while we have built a stadium and training ground for the future.

I also respect the brand of Liverpool, size of fan base, trophy cabinet, worldwide appeal etc BUT you have fallen way behind and also played some terrible football.

Sorry but it hurts to say Liverpool are a shadow of their former selves and have to keep Suarez because you won't be able to attract the stars with the 50m you may get. I would like to see Liverrpool challenging again - trust me.

We have our own problems but hopefully our hard earned 100m plus the base we have in the team will allow us to push on and compete again at long last.

Come on you Gunners - now is our time and hopefully we win something this year as we deserve it

SY4 {Ed052's Note - Ok, look, we will leave it there. Lets leave the talking to the pitch, and, the boardroom. When you struggle to get players in, and we get good ones in, and pip you to fourth, we'll be the ones talkin', alright? ;)}

tbh ed, as much as I respect each and every one of you, I think you're wrong in this instance.

so you are a liverpool fan, that's fine.
so you are an ed in amongst this webring, also fine.

but telling arsenal fans that they can't voice their opinion on weather their club is now bigger than anothers, on the arsenal page? pick your toys up mate, not like they are invading the liverpool page and riling up all the scouse fans on there.

Keep up the good work ed's your info is awesome.
but try not to be too offended when people 'disrespect' your club. your better than that i'm sure! {Ed052's Note - I'm not saying you cannot voice you opinions. In fact, I've had good conversations with some fans about the structure at Liverpool, signings, and some players. But why should I let you go ''we're better than you'' ''your prehistoric''. Its not good to read, and its boring to Ed. We have a policy to delete all that, so I could just delete the majority of posts on here, but I speak to you instead. I've said, and will say again, if people didn't ask me about Liverpool, we wouldn't need to talk about Liverpool. I am here as an 'Arsenal Ed'}

anyone else finding the scouse invasion of the ARSENAL page rather tiresome?

i don't mind a bit of banter (its a banter page) but the amount of vitriolic bowlocks being spewed on here is just pathetic and tiresome.

i couldn't give a siht about what dave the scouser or koppite84 has to say about what we are doing - there's the LFC page for bleating.

Arsenal put a bid in for Suarez. its activated a clause where Arsenal can speak to him. the fee, should personal terms be agreed, is yet to be set. he might sign for arsenal, he might sign for real - he will almost certainly leave liverpool - that's it - end of fckuing story in one paragraph.

same goes for Gooners who go trolling on the scouse page - you're just setting yourself up to look stupid.

Such trolling is only acceptable on 2 occasions a season -
- St Totteringhams Day
- the next 5-2 result.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm hearing Bernard has a Third Party ownership type deal. With Porto actually owning some of the deal. Therefore I agree with the ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure I get this third ownership thing. I thought a price was a price, and if we buy him, he's ours, and whoever owns him now, doesn't. They get their cut and off we go.

i find it strange that liverpool supporters come on here trying act like your still a big club.

big clubs owners do not embarrass them self's by making stupid comments in public about a fellow club for making a bid for 1 of there players.

malaga gooner {Ed052's Note - Malaga.... Lets not start this again. However, I agree with you on the second point. On the first, we are as big as you.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Question for you

How do you define a big club? {Ed052's Note - Fans mainly, trophies won too}

Agree0 Disagree0

Please, please, please ed stop.

i know your passionate about your club and respect any 1 that is.

your about 10 years behind arsenal of and on the pitch.

you still have to fund a new stadium or a renovation and do this with austerity.

spurs will have to do the same and they will find it hard as well.

your a top club with a great tradition with great support but your not a big club any more as far as football is concerned. the table does not lie.

you will be back 1 day.

malaga gooner {Ed052's Note - Look, we will have sponsorship to expand the stadium. Yes, we are behind Arsenal, but not off the pitch, we are actually close. While we have secured 4 targets, you've failed for all your forward targets all the way from Jnauary. Villa, Hig, Jovetic, Suarez. Who else?}

Agree0 Disagree0

YES, that's true ed 52, but you have a lot of catching up to do. {Ed052's Note - Not really. We weren't that far behind last year, and this summer have had a hugely better transfer window than you. Lets leave the players do the talking. Look, I come on here everyday, not to defend Liverpool (Malaga justs seems to bring that up) but to edit your posts and talk to you about Arsenal. On the Arsenal site, I talk Arsenal with you. I support Liverpool, fair does, but as long as nobody restarts the debate, I won't have to answer questions on it. So lets talk Arsenal, deal?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed,

I believe we re-evaluated some of those purchases as you probably know.

Our revenue for 2012 was 50m more than yours and that's before our new deals as only 20% came from commercial lines. I get some came from player sales but we will pull further away.

Also, can you honestly say your strip deal was an arms length transaction?

Good to see the passion but you are a sleeping giant and you need a big alarm clock.

Seriously.

SY4 {Ed052's Note - Did you read what I have just said to Bromley?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed 52, you have never won the PL. Not a knockout tournament where current form gets you by in the CL, a la Greece in Euros, but a Premier League Season

Since the inception of the Premier League, you have never won. Never

You have now missed the CL 3 years running

Your targets would have all signed for us had we really gone for them, instead we have been chasing the biggest names on the market

Your best player, wants to play for us

I respect Liverpool, but they are absolutely nowhere near us as a club {Ed052's Note - Firstly, you are right, we haven't won the league. But we have won the old League 18 times. The Premiership is no different really from the old league, its mainly just a change in name. Secondly, yes, we have missed the CL, that's disappointing. Ok, fine, that amazing, but I don't think they would have, for sure. And LS has his back up option, that's you, and you ain't first choice. I don't get why Arsenal fans are getting excited about LS. He is nothing but trouble. It doesn't sound like you repsect football. Like I have explained, I come on hear to talk about Arsenal, its the Arsenal page. I love football, and am delighted to talk about Arsenal. Why some Arsenal posters keep on bringing Liverpool up, I don't know. I edit every other site, Everton, United, Chelsea, Spurs, City, and all of those don't care I support Livepool. If people didn't bring it up, there'd be no need for all the 'name calling'}

Agree0 Disagree0

Just curiuos. Have I missed something. When did Suarez say that he wanted to play for Arsenal? All I can see is him chasing any CL team fool enough to take him.

Calm down boys and girls, the ed is only doing his job and if you were in his position on the Liverpool page you would also defend your team to the hilt.

If I remember correctly we also lost another Ed on this page cause some people got a little angry and abused him (socially not in a penetrative way lol).

They guy/girl is doing there job and stated will talk AFC so take the hint and keep the abuse low.

P. S. Still think Ed052 we will finish above you next season but good luck anyway =] {Ed052's Note - it'll depend on who you sign! You need to make sure your defence is concrete so a defender and a defensive mid right? I won't leave. Don't worry!!}

Liverpools 18 titles and 5 European cups aswell as many other cups. has to be respected, but the moores family bankrolled you for many of those years. You also took Ray Kennedy and Michael Thomas of us. Looking at liverpools turnover on relation to wage bill tells you that over the last 5 or so years has been bankrolled by the Americans. Under Wengers time at the club we have a state of the art training ground as well as the finest club stadium in the county. This was through self financing and astute manegership by Wenger. Remember man city was funded by the local council because of the com games. Old Trafford is a s*** hole where your leg room is a joke. Without the Russian Chelsea would of gone bust, and even b Munich have backing from 3/4 big German companies. tell me how they have a new stadium that has little impact on their transfer dealing. Typical Scoucers thinking the worlds against them as usual. I still think it's highly unlikely we will be buying their best player. Its not our fault you wasted nearly 80m on a manager who lived off the great Bob Paisleys legacy. Liverpool are a great club, but you have got to accept football goes around in circles. Uniteds success has happened at the most lucrative time in football. If the FFP was implemented properly then this market would be so inflated by two French teams and a big Spanish team that comes under no scrutiny. km

what is left

soldado @ £26m - 28yrs
demba ba @ £10+ - 28yrs
p. cisse @ £15m - 27yrs
dzeko @ £15m+ - 29yrs
zlatan @ £20m+ - 32yrs (crazy wages)
damiao @ £15m - 25yrs

besides zlatan whom we don not really stand much of a chance in getting, none of the other lot would fill me with title challenging confidence.
i was really hoping we would be doing our business quitley, snapping up the likes of higuain and wanyama while the rest of europe was chasing the likes of cavani, neymar and falcao. at this stage, I seriously doubt we would be able to tempt even the likes of carlos vela back.

lets be honest, suarez is unlikely. and when you fork out £45/50m+ on a player, you better be winning titles or you look really silly. what about the other areas we need strengthening? are we going to sign mega players there too?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well I can rest assure that arsene knows more about footballs current talents than you so I would expect the list of prospective players to be longer than that!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dzeko all the way. Still believe he will eventully be a gooner. I really rate Soldado. Think he is quality. But Cisse and Remy are average, and poss could be the 2nd choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

It will be Torres after shrek has moved, had this feeling for a long time and as you say list is getting shorter, Suarez is just a cover so Wenger can say we tried. That said I would be happy with that as long as got decent dm and defender alongside Bernhard, job done

If we don't sign a striker, are there chances we could see Podolski in the central position eventually as our starter?

I think he was held back a little by his injury last season and we didn't even see close to his best.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This is the type of post we have missing on here for a long time.

Liverpool fans need to get abit more realistic. There is no doubt that they have a great history but let's get real are they really a rival? I think not! Suarez is right to want to move to arsenal we are a bigger club we can offer champs league which apologises Liverpool fans you won't offer anytime soon and isn't about time we muscled in on other clubs best players instead of selling our best players.

Is it just me who is getting bugged by Cavani went for 55m so Suarez is worth 60m. The only reason Cavani went for that is because Napoli were clever had the clause and took full advantage. I think 40m for Suarez is about right and hope to see him in action at the emirates cup!

Gooner 84 {Ed052's Note - #84, of course we are a bloody rival!. What do you think Liverpool are aiming for, 10th. We want top 4, and there's no point you aiming higher than 3rd, with the money Citeh are spending, at the Happy One at SB}

Mate Arsenal play just 8 games in champions league and is not a serious contender for either league or champions league.
So I don't know why would Suarez want a move to Arsenal

Kopite10

Agree0 Disagree0

My point is that Everton and Tottenham are bigger rivals for 4th spot than Liverpool at present. I appreciate that they are in transition and signing younger players but do you honestly think they will provide a sustained challenge for top four. I agree with you about challenging top 3 but if we get Suarez, a def mid and centre half we won't be that far off. Maybe not title challenge but would expect to be closer than last season, but its all ifs and buts.

Gooner 84 {Ed052's Note - We are not in transition. It isn't possible to be in transition for so long, this is 'the year' to put it simply. We were close last year, and finished 3 in the second half of the year, so, we have improved, and will only kick on. You'll be third at best if you get those 3}

Agree0 Disagree0

As a club we obviously want the most money we can get for our best players, you can maybe relate. Why would we want to strengthen a team that is at a level that we would like to be at? We have every right to want to keep him and think he will stay, the ball is in LFC's court

Agree0 Disagree0

Kopite 10

Yes we played 8 games in the champions league last year and granted have to win a qualifier this year but Liverpool are not even in the Europa league. And I know Liverpool have won it 5 times and we haven't but we are a lot more likely to challenge for the title granted a small one but we have a lot better chance of winning the champions league than you next season. I can relate to how Liverpool fans are feeling I have been there with fabregas and RVP I think the fact Suarez has asked to discussed terms is a clear indication he wants to leave.

I dunno whether to laugh or cry, hig, jovetic, d villa, benteke, futures ALL sorted.
When I posted Ages ago to say that we'll end up with cisse and a late empty and desperate threat to get Torres nobody believed me! And the next day when I elaborated on my statement this site didn't post it (probably because i'm a realist and its not a made up rumour by someone claiming to be itk and ofcourse its a negative statement)

Cisse and torres are the best we can hope for with suarez going to madrid and chelsea flirting with Rooney which is very very likely! I personally think cisse is average at best

I think cisse is wengers REAL top target and if chelsea don't leave it too late to take rooney well try and take fernando off of chelseas hands for about a fiver!

Wenger is a joke, if the Eds don't post this then I reckon they're in denial or want fellow gunners to believe the false hype. Anything I post to educate the fans never gets posted.

We were going to break the bank this summer we could fulfil wage demands of even 250k. Yet our only signing is a french exchange student doing a gcse in playing for arsenal til your good and then moving to a club that wants to win something.

PS there ar NO landmark signings really left on the market so whose left to sign mr Wenger, can we cancel our season tickets, can we send the new yellow shirt back when we recieve it? No because we can't go back on our word like this god-awfully managed club/business

Believable0 Unbelievable0

'Educate the fans' - who the hell are you? Why are you challenging the Eds? They post most things apart from abusive posts, if you're fed up with posts not making it through then don't write like a bellend!

But, addressing what you've put, I think you need to get a good night's sleep.

There are great players everywhere. Maybe we'll have to be extremely intelligent - you know, like Dortmund were when they signed Lewandowski and Reus, or, you know, maybe like when Villa signed Benteke. Or to be closer to home, like when we signed Anelka, or Henry, or RVP, or Ade.

We just have to accept that if we don't land a mega singing, we're going to have to go for the next best thing, which is either an unknown e. g. Cabaye, Benteke, Lewa, or sign the 'next big thing' - the next Lamela, Hazard - someone like Bernard.

There's also Yilmaz, Kiessling, Soldado, established players who've been very consistent for their clubs. Yilmaz has an embarrassingly good record. We know he's there.

I appreciate it's not looking incredible but this post was embarrassing. And we can do a lot better than Torres.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't be going for cisse. We have been targeting top players, agreed personal terms with hig.

Benzene was vastly overpriced
We stopped trying for jovetic weeks ago
Fair enough about villa - we took a long time but do we want a striker who's 31 just back from a leg brake? I known I don't.

Wenger most certinally is not a joke. Try undergoing a change of stadium and nearly paying it off in under 10 years. And staying in the top 4 whilst doing it. Good luck.

Why would the eds want us lot to believe false hype? They've got nothing to gain by doing that.

We got rid of all the dead wood nearly and suarez is apparently handing in a transfer request forcing a move to the emirates.

You doing need to spend 40+ million for a top quality player. Look at abemayang (spelling) was bought for about 12m!

We will be fine. Wenger knows what he is doing. Trust him. {Ed052's Note - Look, I'm not trying to stir stuff up, but simply saying Liverpool are not far behing, because you've had a poor summer, and us a good one. And LS won't hand in a transfer request yet. Perhaps you should listen to what we say? I think your final point is, you don't need to spend big for quality. No, you don't, e.g. for Liverpool look at Coutinho and DS]

Thanks for your time. {Ed052's Note - What do you mean, the second bid. Your second bid was rejected, so the chances of getting him for that rejected bid are 0.01}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He said after the second bid. that means and amount of bids after the second one. you need to calculate the likelyhood of signing him with the third, fourth, fifth,. , and bid, add them up and divide with n-2, then you get the chance. {Ed052's Note - Sorry, I miss understood. Hi Ed

Really can't understand people and experts say "Liverpool won't sell Suarez t o direct rival club",. I find this strange they already sold Torres to Chelsea, which is a rival club. These kind of Transfers have happened in the past and will happen in future as well. Money Talks! PLUS IN THE END ITS PLAYERS OWN WILL.

I think Real Madrid are going after Bale. Bale is not injured, I heard AVB comments after today's LOSS against Sunderland, he said " We are trying to get him involved and hope he joins training on Thursday", clearly he is going. Therefore Madrid will not buy Suarez. Another reason Barca got Neymar, top player and defeated RM. They need someone who can challenge that kind of Quality. Bale is the only player who can rise above this kind of Quality. , RM will be a force in Europe next season with both CR7 and Bale playing together.

Any views regarding this Ed, is this is a possibility. let me know.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Jul 2013 21:04:45
Ed said on the Liverpool page earlier that RM will only try to sign Bale if Ronaldo goes, and that Man City are interested in CR, and that a deal could be on if the price is right. RM getting Suarez has nothing to do with Bale. They have just sold Higuain so they will want a replacement.

Ed's Q?

do you know the exact wording / original implications of the stipulation in luis suarez' contract with liverpool.

who's distorting the original meaning? LFC or LS?

is it liverpool must tell suarez
or is it liverpool must let suarez talk with said club

both seem plausable, though sounds to me like he is clutching at straws.

either way he seems desperate to get away, and i'd love that, if they didn't support him so much during his time there. Shame he wants to move, but a shame for LFC not us. {Ed052's Note - As far as I/we are concerned, when a team offers over £40m (so plus the quid) LS has permission to speak to that club, face to face. I don't think anybody at Liverpool has ever denied this, and it is just some reports and 'sources' saying otherwise. Does that make sense my friend?}

Ted, I know he said that, but there is still a possibility Lewa could be tempted to move to another club. Don't forget he was about to sign for Blackburn in 2011. Dortmund not selling to them now is about principle, nothing else.

Think of it from Suarez's angle. He was at Ajax playing in the champions league. He joined Lpool who weren't. How do you think Lpool signed him? No world class cf would go there without some sort of get-out plan. Liverpool imo did extremely well to sign him with that clause and not a full on buy-out or release-clause or whatever they're called. Amazing really. Will he be dropped straight away? There's no way Wenger will compromise the morality of the club for one player,
And there's no way we're going to pay in excess of £40m to then drop the player if he does something stupid
Ideally Wenger will instill some discipline and professionalism in LS, but upw long will it take, and will that be before he does somethig stupid?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah. like every other player who rules themselves out of a move.

Not saying he will move or not, just saying what he says is meaningless. Actions speak louder than words. Pep has Martinez and Schweinsteiger for that role so I'm really interested to see if he's got plans for Gustavo.

Seems to be surplus of DMs in the world yet we still haven't signed one. It's weird! Gustavo is good enough to be first choice at most clubs, why he wants to sit around at Bayern after last season is a mystery to me.

cant wait for the new season always miss the footy over the summer months! think we all need to stop being so pessimistic though! for years we have been worried about losing our top players and drafting in players who aren't in the same bracket of class, and this window we have bid 40mil for 1 player, what does that tell you about our club and wenger! were changing our policy, even giroud santi and podolski are all mid 20's so slowly we are seeing a change in our policy. for years we have craved big money and as soon as we start trying to use it some fans criticize!

Obviously we are yet to sign anyone but mr wenger is an intelligent man and I can't see him not buying anyone as he knows how that would impact the fans, I just think you guys need to stick with it and stick with the team, hopefully a lot of players will step up this year anyway!

I would be wary however of spending 40mil on one player as we aren't a man united in the sense that our squad has already shown its capable of winning the league, therefore we need more players at around 15mil I think to add competiition, squad depth and quality, money spent isn't always everything, there are bargains out there and all players should be given a chance obviously its nice to sign players who are already proven, but how do you prove yourself? I still think we will make a couple of signings and hopefully we will have a big season ahead!

We've cleared a lot of deadwood aswell which we haven't managed for a long time and things in my opinion look a lot more positive!

and just to add to the debate I personally wouldn't want us to buy suarez but if he came I would fully support him and the club like I do any player purchased!

Ed027 from your point of view (which I respect). do u think suarez is keen on handing in a transfere request, now that we made a bid above 40mil? {Ed027's Note - Yes, I think he wants the move, but things could get messy if/when Madrid come in

Ok, so maybe we all concede that Arsenal is trying very hard for Suarez.

Is the club unable to MULTI-TASK!

To my memory, Wenger wanted to bring in 2-3 players. We all know the positions.

Surely we can make in roads on the others.

Eds? OUTSIDE of Suarez, is anything cooking, what has Wenger decided for his defensive player?

Billybob {Ed027's Note - There is no centre back being looked at for all I know, Gk situation has gone quiet as Wenger is happy to with what he has got, but if something comes available he will move, holding mid is a position we will strengthen, with who? I don't know expect shock

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the response. It seemed to me like Cesar is pulling a "bendtner" and is more concerned about wages than playing time. I think his agent's recent comments are more to fish for interest.

On midfield, I figured that with the loaning of players, Wenger would need "numbers" in the middle, particularly with Diaby out for a while. Seems like Gustavo is out. {Ed027's Note -I can see Cesar coming back to Arsenal soon, it's a WC year he can't be playing Championship football

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm getting the feeling Wenger is skimping on needed signings and chucking the lot at Suarez.

We've gone from negotiating for Grenier, Gonalons, Bender, Fellaini and Gustavo to suddenly 'not needing' a DM. Capoue is still out there, Wanyama gone now. We're desperate for a CB but it looks as though we're going to promote Jenks and use Sagna as a CB if we need him.

It's risky. I mean I think Sagna is actually our joint best CB when he plays, but we're short in defence if, say, Jenko gets injured this week. Suddenly we've got a serious problem. History repeating itself. I also think Wenger wanted to test Miquel again before deciding. Which is odd seeing as Miquel spent most of his preseason so far outside the opposition box!

Agree0 Disagree0

True, but 70,000 is quite the wage demand. I see why we would want to push for a loan. Otherwise, its basically a 2 yr contract.

I think the speed at which this deal for Suarez either succeeds or fails will be important, because the best fall-back option at this moment of time is Roberto Soldado and there are clubs trying to sign him up. All of the other top strikers are pretty much sorted out and the other options include the Drogba-type strikers or the ones from Portugal (i. e Martinez, Banega, Cardozo).

Ed if you think we will sign either hig or Suarez and hig looks destined for Napoli and the eds are saying Suarez is likely to go Madrid if he leaves, how does that add up and any insight would be great {Ed052's Note - How does that add up? Well it means both have better options than Arsenal. What insight do you want, you've answered your own questions with what we've told you already}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed052's = Bendtner in diguise?

Only kidding. Tend to agree (to some extent). I don't think Napoli is necessarily a better option than Arsenal.

Both champions league teams. But Napoli were willing to pay for it. I think the real evil-doers here are Real Madrid.

Hello all,

I read just now on the tv website that "Luis Suarez to ask Liverpool for talks with Arsenal" what is that supposed to mean?
According with the article, still Liverpoor is not obliged to sell.
Can anyone tell me how can that be good then?

Thanks

MX Gooner {Ed052's Note - Liverpool do not have to sell for what Arsenal have bid for. However, they have activated a clause with that extra £1, meaning that LS can directly talk to Arsenal without tapping up etc. But as I say, Liverpool don't have to accept the offer - it isn't a release clause. Make sense?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Even if Liverpool won't accept the bid, would they maybe be forced to sell at a lower price? like a fabregas to barca situation?

Great signing on the cheap. Would cost no more than 2 mil. Having said that if he wasn't in the last year of his contract and west brom wanted around 10 mil I wouldn't bother going in for him.

Big fish in a small pond at the moment. Would he do the same at arsenal bit of a gamble but for a couple of mil. Why not?

If we really wanted Higuain or Suarez I do not think we would have pussy footed around. My true belief is we will not get anyone and that includes Bernard.

We did not mess around for Podolski or Giroud I am afraid when it comes to buying unless the price is exactly want the club thinks a player is worth it won't happen just think of Mata what was 2m in the context of 300M turnover.

why are all you guys slating arsenal for not signing higuain?

Dont get me wrong he is good, however when real upped the bid to over 30m for a player that sits on the bench and isn't proven in the premier league, it seemed a bit unfair and unjust. Wenger and Gazidis then gave up on the deal because it wasnt economically viable, and it was morally wrong.

Whereas signing suarez is. Yes he has baggage, but he also is a world class forward and someone that we need. Imo higuain is too similar to giroud whereas suarez is a good dribbler, finnisher and can easily score goals out of nothing.

Wenger is right to do what he's doing, and that is to lure suarez personally away from anfield. I now expect suarez to ask to leave or maybe even hand in a transfer request. Yes 40m is a high bid but if you want world class players you have to pay the price!

what does everyone think (edds included) will be the highest we will bid for suarez? {Ed030's Note - I think Arsenal will not match the price Real Madrid can pay which would be around £50 million. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't believe any of the fees being bandied about are accurate. I do not believe Arsenal's opening offer was as high as £30m and I certainly do not believe the second offer was for £40m. Arsenal will be aware that £40m is not a release clause. Suarez' agent would have told them that. I believe there were/are bids, but I think the amounts have been exaggerated. Media sources close to RM (or claim to be) say RM are not budging on £25m. So I think this will play out for a few more weeks yet with RM gradually upping the amount. It will not be anywhere near £50m IMO.

Really don't get our transfer policy atm.

Why don't we just pay the £32m for higuan, there is no way we are going to get suarez, even if we offer £55m, liverpool want to get into the top 4, and atm arsenal are the only team who are realistically going to slip out of their, so selling us their best player just isn't going to happen.

So, which striker that's currently on the market do you guys think would be an improvement on Giroud? I rate Giroud very highly and believe he has yet to show what he's made of.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am a big fan of Giroud. He did well for the first year in the EPL. Doesn't mean we don't need another striker. Preferably someone who gives us different options, and whatever positions we end up buying, the best player available please.

Agree0 Disagree0

He certainly looks good against amateurs doesn't he.

I personally see him as a player who should be playing for a mid table team like Newcastle, Liverpool or Swansea not a team in the Champions League. Just my opinion as I know a lot of fans love him.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not about these pre-season games I rated Giroud when he signed for Arsenal last summer. Just curious if we miss out on Suarez and Higuain what strikers do you think are better the Giroud that are available this summer? I can't think of any. Lewandowski maybe.

We would have been better of sending the Chuckle brothers over to Madrid todo our negotiating. Perez would have taken them more seriously. I know Madrid did us no favours, why would they. We didn't sell them Viera, Henry or Fab. I know it's hypothetical but when they wanted around £30m for Higuain, Napoli weren't in the reckoning and we should have given it. Wenger gambled and lost. He and the board knew they were going to get slated. So guess what let's put a £40m bid for Suarez. They know and we know that he ain't coming. They are just trying to the fans that we are willing to pay big money, which is a complete lie. He doesn't want to go over £25 m. for anyone

Really interesting that we improved our defensive record last season, yet 46% of voters have chosen to prioritise a holding mid over a CF, when it's the goals and big game wins we struggle with. We outplayed Spurs for example but they got two great chances and took them. Game lost. But we had an great game that day, people forget we really dominated them most of that game!
Same with Chelsea at home where Gerv bagged a goal. We were playing far better football but lacked that edge up top. Two set pieces and they won they game. If we had that striker, I doubt they'd have won that game at all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good point Metal, especially as the defensive mid/holding mid position is evolving at the moment. I agree, we need a striker first. But we missed Arteta when he was injured, and we do need an alternate in that deeper role who can make the transition from defence to attack.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jul 2013 11:35:44
If Arsenal really have £70m-£80m to spend, as has been reported, surely spending more than half on Suarez is a dangerous game. He will miss the first six games for a start. You would be much better strengthening the entire spine of your team. If I was an Arsenal supporter I would be looking for a solid goalkeeper, an old fashioned dominant centre-back, a ball winning midfielder and a 20-25 goal a season striker.

In goal I think your best option is Asmir Begovic. They have a very good young goalkeeper at Stoke in Jack Butland who will be looking to play, and there is talk Begovic is available for £15m. I think that is a steal. He is one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

At centre-back, this might surprise some, but I think you should look at Ryan Shawcross. He is the glue that holds Stoke together. Dominant, he's a leader, brave (puts his head in where others wouldn't put their feet) and a threat in both boxes. I know the whole Ramsey episode may be a stumbling block, but I'm sure that could be worked around.

In midfield a good option would be Morgan Schneiderlin (spelling). Anytime I watched him he was exceptional. Breaks up play, does the simple thing and moves the ball on quickly and effectively. Exactly what Arsenal need to allow Wilshere, Cazorla, Arteta etc to focus more on the creative aspect.

Up top Higuain has been mentioned and would be a great signing. However he would perhaps be a bit expensive if recent reports are true. What about making a move for Klaas Jan Huntelaar? Penalty box player who just loves scoring goals. Great finisher in the air and with both feet and wouldn't cost a kings ransom.

Thoughts Gunners?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I actually think Huntelaar is a good shout, and Shawcross. Didn't we have interest in Huntelaar before?

Gooner83

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not welcome Shawcross at our club after what he did to Ramsey. He's a disgrace to football.

And besides, we can't sign players from rugby teams, can we?

So what striker would you go for that isn't already gone, be realistic rooney is at chelsea basically or he is staying at man utd

Quality attempt at humour GRD.

Stoner

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed.

Suarez is top quality, but 50m for a player who will miss a handful of games, has serious behavioral issues, and doesn't want to be in England seems far from a wise way to spend our money.

We still need a holding mid (in my mind our top priority), a CB, a GK and maybe a versatile wide player.

In Arsene I trust, and I trust Arsene won't triple our transfer record for chompy the bigot

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Stoke want to sell Begovic yet and £15m seems a bit much.
I don't think we'd ever buy Shawcross after he broke Ramsey's leg.
Schneiderlin, I'm not too sure about. He could either be a great signing or he could prove to not be better than any players we currently have.
I would love Higuain to come to Arsenal but he looks set to join Napoli. Huntelaar is coming up for 30 so we should be looking for younger and better options than him.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jul 2013 14:16:43
I'm not sure that is much different from the transfer policy tbh. Rumours for what their worth, reflect a desire to strengthen the spine e. g. DM, versatile striker and a keeper. As for KVH, no thanks.

Players like Lewandowski, Jovetic etc are 'reportedly' going to be moving for a lot less than what we're prepared to pay for Suarez (40?! Can someone, maybe one of the editors, please clarify this clause in Suarez's contract?

The way I've understood it, anything above £40m means the player has to be notified of a bid. This being why Gazidis offered +£1.

I've now read that Suarez's agent is saying that Ian Ayre cannot reject the offer because it's over £40m.

How can the clause be that vague that the players agent has a different understanding of it than the club?

Or is this them trying to cause enough noise to force Liverpool's hand slightly?

Any knowledgeable info is appreciated, please no guesses or regurgitated tweets! Thanks {Ed029's Note - It is a point that the club and the player's agent don't agree over. It has been discussed on other pages by another Ed and I don't want to open it up here.}

Higuain was our primary target. 25, available for around 25 million originally. Arsenal were offering around 23.

Jovetic 23 years old around the same price. Did Arsenal even bid?

Why would Wenger refuse to up the bid slightly for Higuain or bid a similar figure for Jovetic and then offer a stupid sum of money for a player who is banned for the first part of the season for BITING someone, is years older and costs almost twice as much! It makes no sense to me.

Any news on Corchia? Sochauxs deadline for a transfer has passed, but wondering if there is still interest from Wenger.

Bernard? I have not read anywhere that Wenger is interested except on this site. Any truth Eds?

Also my dream transfer would be Keisuke Honda from CSKA. Out of contract in January. Could grab a bargain. Wenger has been interested before any chance of beating Milan to his signature?

Jovetics asking price was at the time ridiculous especially considering he's poor season, hence why even juve didn't go for him.

The whole squad would be improved in key areas with great quality and even better potential (except Cesar) I know its not quite as simple as that but is it really quite as hard as we are making it.

£40m! Are we really so desperate for anyone - any star name that we want this at the club?

Career low: Controversy never seems to be far from Suarez and his low point is a tie between the seven-game ban he received in November 2010 for biting Otman Bakkal on the shoulder while in action for Ajax and his eight-match ban for the incident with Evra in December 2011. Obviously before his new career low eating Ivanovic and not to mention the beyond Bale diving and handballing.

Quotes: "The 'Hand Of God' now belongs to me. I did it so that my team-mates could win the penalty shoot-out. When I saw Gyan miss the penalty it was a great joy". Luis Suarez, July 2010.

He is the most unpleasant footballer of his generation - great player but his attitude will potentially ruin the club.

£40m for a player who makes Barton look grounded! Wow this is getting nuts. He is without doubt a great player but he brings shame wherever he goes. That shame is so high that in most players it would probably halve his value.

I was never comfortable with this as he is such a deeply flawed character. But when Liverpool reject £40m it's time to run not walk away. I don't care about our desperation to sign a big name, and all those here who seem to be going mad about it.

Put simply above and beyond all else is the club we do not want to waste the limited money nor do we want to ruin our reputation. Suarez is not worth it. neither is Higuain - madness £32m for a reserve to Benzema. If these players are worth this kind of money the truth is maybe we should have kept Nic (only joking by the way) as he must be worth £10m plus.

We are not going to get a start name unless we so badly compromise ourselves that the risks outweight the gains. I know this isn't popular but spend the money on four real talents who will change the club - Bernard and Gustavo would be a great start - stop chasing a big name because fans and media are so desperate. Yes it would be great but not anyone and not at any price.

How did you feel when Patrick Vieira did what is commonly seen as the most disgusting act, when he spat in the face of a fellow professional?
I'm mentioning this as we seem to forget we had an outstanding player who is now a legend who was constantly booked, suspended through red cards. But when it comes to being interested in a world class player with baggage we seem to try and claim the moral high ground.
I'm by no means defending Suarez as I believe he has been a prize idiot, but for weeks months years arsenal fans have been begging the club to spend big on world class players. Now we seem in a position to do that fans are now scared for it to be spent. If we end up paying £45m for Suarez and later in the season he bangs in a hatrick at the lane, every arsenal fan will have soon forgotten the past and said that those 3 goals would be wort the transfer fee alone.

While I'm not going to defend him if he made racist comments, I fail to see the logic in him being banned far longer than John Terry was with little evidence beyond one players word against the other (Terry was on video. ) As for the biting - meh, stupid and childish but hardly in the same league as the foul injury causing tackles that go unpunished every week. Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jul 2013 09:08:20
i honestly don't understand the mentality of some fans.
why can't people be realistic in their player valuations?

suarez is NOT worth 50m plus. maybe with no ban/a clean fifa record. but not with his back catalogue, I mean he does one more thing wrong and fifa will throw the book at him. that surely knocks a few quid off.

on top of the fact that neither clubs are giants anymore, meaning one can't strong arm the other.

ive seen some scousepool fans say he's worth 80m+
thats ridiculous considering.
He may be a brilliant striker but he's a horrid man. and I know nice doesn't mean price, but still a 6 game uefa ban and a very black record means he isn't at cavani's valuation.

suarez scored 23 league goals last season only 4 more than relegation battling Aston Villa's christian benteke. benteke is younger and has less baggage, he's also desperately needed at the club. does that make his valuation 50+ million? worse club, better return on goals?

why not?

simple, villa don't have a strong arm to twist.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Goonerink.

a player is worth what a club will pay for him.

a house is worth what a person will pay for it.

this is life.

malaga gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I simply don't get your gooner logic.
HE IS A LFC PLAYER is it simply difficult to understand. His value is what the selling club value him at not what Arsenal are willing to pay.
Its really that simple.

Agree0 Disagree0

GoonerInk

Firstly, Benteke is a kid, he had a good season before Villa and a great season with Villa.

Suarez? He's been doing it consistently for years. 11 goals in 159 games at Ajax is an unbelievable record. So is 51 in 96 for Liverpool. Benteke hasn't even come close to what Suarez has achieved, but if he does then one day he too will be valued massively.

Also, sadly, today's current market dictates the value. 10 years ago, players like Suarez were considered £20m players. Things have changed, and the market decides. Liverpool won't be getting £50m from anyone for Suarez this year anyway.

But you compare Suarez to Ibra, RVP, Cavani, he's well within that bracket. Those players go for £40m these days, just accept it!

You can't compare Suarez to Benteke. Compare him to someone the same age who has played top-flight football for the same time, then you can do a fair comparison.

Agree0 Disagree0

I say again that isn't his VALUE its his ASKING price. liverpool no he is sought after by more than one team that will put the ASKING price up but his VALUE will remain the same.

Agree0 Disagree0

So malaga andy caroll is/was worth 35 million just because looserpool were stupid enough to offer that much. I don't think even in your hazy eyes carroll was worth 35m

even on a bad day stoned I would buy and sell you in a flash.

dont try and make out I am stupid because you will be badly mistaken.

malaga gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

But metal youve just compared him to 3 players who aren't the same age, and have played top flight for a variety of times.

the point I see some people making is that a lot of fans confuse what a player is worth with how much someone will pay for him. its not strictly the same thing. (yes I know in business that's somethings worth)

but say a player is going to be bought for 1m max at a club like man city, he's worth 1m right? what about if say stevenage want him, because he can win them promotion/get shirt sales ect. surely he is WORTH more in terms of revenue?

what i'm trying to say is asking price and valuation are two different things, with lots of variable factors.
and using that in my opinion he isn't worth 55m

oh and also dave, I was going to use carroll as a counterpoint aswell.
but we can also admit that rvp was worth a hell of a lot more than 25m. in hindsight that's clear, at the time not as much but still. your logic dictates that the prems top scorer is worth little over half of what the other top strikers are

If I were in the Pool hotseat i'd prefer Suarez at Madrid anyway as he won't be in the Prem, so IF he's sold then they can undercut us anyway. It seems like a waste of time to me, particularly as the pool of world class strikers is drillng up. i'm sure Arsenal have it under control.

Higuain scored goals in a side where he had 20 + assists by superstars around him.
he is an out and out CF who could tap ins like giroud and huntelar or benzema.
Suarez is No. 7, can score from dead ball. 25 yards. both feet, can dribble (infact had 291 successful dribbles last year more than any), has terrific pace and excellent work attributes.
never got injured in his whole life, and gives more than 15% everytime he is and the pitch.
and that makes him miles better than other CF.
luis suarez can litreally change the game on his own.
he could create anything from absolute nothing.

We're not taken seriously, and look like wanabees trying to play with the big boys.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have to agree - tried to be positive for a while, but looks like Hig to Napoli will be announced tonight and really can't see LS at Arsenal. Come on Wenger - do something quick!

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree. Our accounts are public, our commercial deals are public, clubs are fully aware of our finances regardless of what Gazidis said. We've been able to afford massive signings for a long time - we just haven't been able to afford to over-pay for them. KNowing we have money doesn't damage us in the market that much - if we didn't have money, we wouldn't be trying to sign players.

Look at City. Far more money than us. They weren't charged £30m for Navas and £30m for Negredo were they? Both those deals would have been easily affordable by us.

Chelsea, they are one of the richest on earth, they signed Moses for £10m, Mata for about £23m, Ba for £7m or something, Cahill for £7m.

The Arsenal - because a Cannon will always be cooler than a Chicken!

This Suarez bid is a bid odd, no? Anyway, I am concentrating on this Bernard chap. I saw him a few times in the Confeds, and he looked retty decent. Thing is, I don't recall him starting a single match for Brazil, just came on as a sub. Does anyone know if he starts for Brazil ever? People liken his level to that of Oscar, age build etc. but Oscar seems to regulalry start for Brazil. Only a minor observation, what you think?

Peace out you handsome Goons!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi mate, I think it's been a breakthrough year for Bernard really. Don't forget, Lucas Moura who cost PSG some £40m and who is IMO way better than Hulk, didn't start a single game either.
Players like Jadson barely get in the team, Fernadinho who just cost City something like £34m, who they've been tapping up since before xmas, he didn't even make the confeds squad!
Oscar has had a year at the very highest level in football and more than excelled, and is way further along than Bernard - but in a year's time, Bernard could easily be level pegging. This is one of those where if we don't make a move now, we might never get a chance because then we'll be looking at £40m fees etc and sugar daddy clubs will get him.
I am hoping Wenger learned his lesson by splashing on the Ox but not paying some £4m more for Hazard, etc.
This guys looks like the next on that list.

Well if the reports are true that the 40 mill+1quid offer for Suarez is true, I think all that has done is to piss Liverpool off. I think personally we would be better off with Rooney and perhaps a deal with us giving up the option on Cesc could be looked at. I am struggling with the Bernard story because I don't see AW spending 21 mill on a obviously talented player but where other areas of the squad need more urgent attention.

If what i'm reading is true we have bid 40mil and 1 pound to activate a clause in Suarez contract which means LFC have to inform Suarez of our bid. I think Wenger has done this to see if Suarez is interested in talking to us, if not we will be back in for Higuain. Its also not impossible that we testing the waters ie LFC/Suarez on behalf of RM as part the Higuian deal? Just a thought?

If we are to believe the 40 mil bid for Suarez, I think its a real sign of intent. Now, I know that there might still be some scepticism but for one I do not think that Arseanl should bid anymore.

If Liverpool want to play hard ball let them. No way is Suarez worth 55 mil or even 50 mil. Personally I felt 35 was a good amount given the baggage he comes with.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

At 40 they must be listening and its certainly opened a channel to him. I predict 45ish mil then they'll have to say yes. He wants out, he's banned for 6 games also, they can't keep saying No out of principle. Will it happen in the end though, who knows. I'd love the dirty little canibal at Arsenal!

Agree0 Disagree0

Whatever the intension I think its a reasonable amount for him and offered in good time for Liverpool to find a replacement. Liverpool double their money (almost) on a player whom even they admit "carries a lot of baggage".
My thoughts on it are the bid will unsettle Suarez who wants to leave, if he submits an official transfer request then the final fee shouldn't be much more than what has been proposed by us. Certainly shy of £50m, probably £40m in one whack with some performance related pay on top.

The problem after this, as I see it, is do we still have enough to get fellaini, Williams and presumably Bernard? Based on our tactical retreat on fellaini, the answer to that is probably "no"

Just want to say as a Liverpool fan that I think the whole Suarez saga is ridiculous.
Yes he's a fantastic player who would improve any squad but he's just an awful human being.

My club (myself included) were very naive to back him up with all the different controversies, but Arsenal would be worse to pay nearly 50m for him with all his issues.
I hope you don't get him personally as I'd lose a lot of respect for Wenger and your club if you do.
It's because of Arsenal that I became a Liverpool fan in 1989.
Thank you Mickey Thomas :)

You're not dirty Chelsea, Arsenal have class, history, great fans worldwide.
For the sake of your club I hope Chelsea or Madrid come in and outbid you, Suarez would fit in nicely with Two timing Terry, Cashley Cole, Fat Lampard, Sulky Torres and Special Mourinho.

Arsenal are better than that guys!
Hope ya get Higuain and finish above those Spurs muppets (can't stand Bale & co. ).
Good luck this season so long as you finish below us :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Unfortunately, besides being an awful "person", he is a very talented player. Surprising thing is when he plays for Uruguay, he doesn't have that much controversy surrounding him (except for the world cup 2010 handball against Ghana although I don't blame him for that because in all honesty, Gyan should have scored the penalty and didn't, so suarez was a hero in that instance). I think Arsene should b able to talk sense into the lad if we do sign him

Agree0 Disagree0

If we aren't totally crap at buying players then I'm missing a whole lot of strategy here. First we come out and tell the world that we have plenty of money. Then we say we have money for Rooney's wages - no problem (we aren't going to buy him though). Then it looks like our first real quality signing in a while - Higuain is on his way and we don't close the deal. I don't see it but I'm just stupid (and very frustrated).

But don't pay more than $40 millionish for Suarez. I'm hearing $55 million - pfffffffff.

So let me get this straight, we have bid £40,000, 001 (I never though I'd be saying that) for Suarez and this was to activate the clause in his contract, which says that Liverpool have to consider any bid over 40m and inform him of the bid. I'm a bit confused as to what that actually means, surely the club has to consider any bid that they receive for a player and I assume that the player would know that a bid has been put in for them? So Liverpool have rejected our bid, so what happens now?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Liverpool can consider any offer we give them so this rubbish that they have to consider over 40m is just that! Rubbish! I personally don't think we will come back with another off and I believe we will meet Madrid's price on Higuain. I can't see Wenger going to the 50m that Liverpool want and to be honest I wouldn't pay that! I would rather take Higuain for 30m and invest the other 20m on a defensive midfielder or a winger. Plus our defence is looking stretched to say the least and we are in July not December!

I can't see you lot paying that to be fair! {Ed027's Note - we have paid attention, that why we through a extra quid in! wake up!

Aww sorry I meant people on this page. Admittedly as Liverpool fan I thought the extra pound was quality! That has Tight-arse Wenger written all over it! What a legend!

To be fair I seriously doubt Suarez will end up at Arsenal. I think you lot need to be careful as I think he could be using you lot on an attempt to try and get a move to Madrid. {Ed027's Note - I think we have mad our move, now it's all up to Luis to do what he did at his previous clubs, but of course Real could change all of this

reading the paper, it ny on states that it all seems to be in suarez's hands now. He can now push for a move to the emirates if he so wishes, as the £40m clause has been activated.

Hopefully he does that and we sign him for 40m, as suarez wants to push for a move out of anfield!

The clause is not a buyout clause unfortunately. It just means the club has to let him know that an offer has been tabled for him. however, they are not obliged to sell to us even if the player wants to come {Ed029's Note - That is not the interpretation of Suarez's representatives.}

We have stepped up to the table with money and wages

We mean business and its exciting

There are domino effects that hold deals up but I expect 3 big signings plus two others ( young or experienced ) to add depth and competition

Lets give them time as I think it's a big 10 days for us

Come on you Gunners!!

Now arsenal have reached that magical 40mil (+£1) clause. I guess they can now speak with Suarez - speak about terms, the clubs vision (with money now, to actually bring in good players, without having to sell!), etc, etc.

I suppose they will at least hear from the horses mouth how he feels about a move.

If positive- what happens then? Arsenal make an improved offer I am guessing?

What advantage does meeting that clause have? A part from speaking with suarez?

I suppose the player can say he wants to leave, but hasn't he already done that!

Am I missing something, but isn't pretty meaningless that clause?

If we, as reported, have a 70 million 'war chest' then a number of rumours fit together. The reported 37 million with 5 mil add ons for Suarez, 21 million for Bernard, 10 million for Williams and 1.5 million for Cesar. That all adds up to 69.5 million with potential of rising. While that doesn't include a DM, knowing Arsenal's record I would be happy with that and think if Ramsey can improve in the DM position we could genuinely challenge for the title.

Reports claiming Ivan Gazidis contacted Ian Ayre to lodge a formal offer of £40,000,000, 01, although impressive if true, the bid was rejected.

This figure was suppose to trigger some sort of clause in his contract, however there appears to be some confusion around the clause as to what it actually stipulates.

For me I can't see us improving on this offer without the player expressing his desire to leave by submitting a formal written transfer request.

I believe the recent informal discussions between Suarez advisor and club officals has made his position clear that he wants to play champions league football, however Liverpool are not contractually obliged to have to accept any figure, so I think our attentions will move else where.

Reports saying Arsenals bid of 42 mil for Suarez has been rejected, obviously. But can we now hold personal talks with him because of a clause in his contract, Eds?

NE Gooner {Ed052's Note - I have no confirmation yet. But it seems it was 40m +£1. It means Arsnela can now speak to the player himself}

With regards to bernard, he nor Wenger has confirmed but neither of them have denied it either. Hmmm

With the spurs having had a low bid for Sold ado rejected and Valencia saying £26m or no deal surely we should be looking closely at this as his record is excellent. Stops spurs buying him too.

Now all the media is reporting it, and yes, you gessed it, I was the one who said that we've tabled a 40m bid for suarez a few days ago. Only a few believed. To the others, thank me when we announce suarez as a signing.
