Don't get your hopes up about Higuain being announced 'imminently'. I don't think anything will be confirmed one way or another until July. This one's going to drag.

don't understand this "not having a manager" issue (nonsense).
is it impossible to sell a player without manager's signature? I mean, clubs does have a board and chairman, logicaly they do the finances and signings (usualy according to manager's wishlist offcourse).
or let's put it this way, how come RM can sign a player but cannot sell one?

Has anyone else been watching the France U20 team? What do people think of Kondogbia? I can't really form an opinion on half an hour of football but he and Pogba really stood out as being a different class today so I just wondered what others thought of him?

The most silly post I have ever read as you're assuming nobody signs anyone else! If united, city and Chelsea strengthen their squads (which they will) then you'd need more signings than that! Think you need to add Messi, Ronaldo and Iniesta to that and possibly at least 3 defenders not including gk! For the record I like arsenal and hope they do well. I like their footballing philosophy and they are a joy to watch at times but please me real. Most Of your fans realise that they need to invest heavily! I hope they do (sincerely) and I'm a united fan. The more competition the better. It saddens me to see you linked with mediocre players who may be good in a few years! It wound me up at times for united but at least we have had success! I hope you get back to winning ways but only if we haven't paid interest in the said competition!

Guys, I'm not a doom monger at all. What I'm suggesting is that arsenal seem to settle for anything other than the best. Wenger seems to be scared of buying elite players because he is afraid of having the favourites tag with regard to top 4. Every year we r favourites to drop out of the top 4, and it seems to spur us on. Wenger is scared of having the pressure on him of being "favourites". I'm hoping for the best players to arrive, but it won't happen.

Wilshere is a classy player, but I stick to what I say about him. Until he stops being childish, and focuses 100% on his game, we may see positive results. Next season will be incredibly tough. All the teams around us are getting stronger as well. We can't afford to drop behind even further.

Grant,

I think hard as it is to believe, this is the 1st time for 8 years when we don't have to sell and we can bring in quality.

I'm sure Arsene will and at the same time, much as I'd like us to win the Premiership next year I'm reallistic enough to understand It will be far from a cake walk, it will be way harder than Utd's stroll last year, even for them.

The gap may have been big in points but I'm of the opinion that if the quality comes in that gap will be way way smaller.

Stoner

Agree0 Disagree0

04, you are entitled to your opinion. but since when has Wilshere needed to grow up?
As for Wenger being worried about pressure of having good players. he didn't seem to worry about having Pires and Llungberg etc on the bench did he, this was when we were winning things, in case your memory is that short.
I appreciate that people are allowed to have their own opinion, but there are correct opinions and questionable opinions and I'm afraid yours do seem to be firmly segregated to the later of these.

Why does our transfers take so long to conclude. City go out and buy two. Liverpool go out and do the same. This Higuain transfer is going on and on. If we don't sign him after all the rumours, there will be a backlash from the supporters. It will bring in to question the negotiators and the desire of Wenger. If its not finalised by the weekend, then there's something wrong. km

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it is just because they are very strict with their money. And they will not back down to player demands. They will only sign players when they accept the clubs offer

{Ed027's Note - A lot of people asking about Fellaini, I honestly don't have a clue, I want to believe that site, but it's hard to when they say Cesar, Wiliams, Fellaini & Higuain is on there way, and then maybe Rooney. i'm just going to wait and see, fingers corssed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would be interesting if.

Cesar - 5m
Williams - 10m
Fellaini - 22m
Rooney - 25m
Sanogo - Free
Higuain - 22m

Total - 84m

-------------Cesar
Sagna PM4 Koscielny Monreal
--------Fellaini Wilshere
---Walcott Rooney Cazorla
------------Higuain

Szczesny, Jenkinson Williams, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Arteta, Ramsey, Ox, Giroud, Podolski, Sanogo

Not bad. {Ed027's Note - Some team

Agree0 Disagree0

Arteta and Ramsey were crucial in helping us keep the defence solid in the last few months of the season, and we have a quite a good record when Arteta plays (and funnily enough, not such a great record when Jack plays) thus AW was prepared to play Arteta v Newcastle knowing full well he wasn't anywhere near 100 percent but such was his importance that he completed 1/4 of the match. So for me, Arteta starts and starts as captain of the team. Gibbs ahead of Monreal for me, but to all our fans; be careful who you underrate and who you overrate.

This isn't transfer related but something I was interested to see what others thought about. I was talking to an Italian friend today and a Milan fan and we were discussing Maldini and Adams and he was so confused as to why we never retired Adam's number like Milan did with Maldini. I had never given much thought to this myself, but now I do I wonder whether or not we should have. What do others think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because we was holding it for senderos! Haha

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't believe numbers should be retired. If we retired every number a club legend wore, then Kos wouldn't be 6. Theo wouldn't be 14, and Jack wouldn't be 10. Where does it end? The number 7 shirt for manc u and Liverpool could of been retired many moons ago, but the biggest compliment you can give a club legend is keeping the number, and having a player who respects the history of it and strives to have their name in the same sentence as that club legend.
Good debate :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Think we should retire no11 shirt as long as player retires

Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

The no. 9 shirt has been a bit of a curse in AWs reign. When Bergkamp got the no. 10 shirt, it meant that Merson got the no. 9 shirt and thus had a dip in form. Then there was Anelka, Suker, Jeffers, Reyes, Baptista, Eduardo and now Podolski. With the exception of Jeffers and maybe Baptista, they are all very good players, but hasn't worked out for them. Perhaps give Podolski a new shirt number and retire the no. 9!

This is a new name for me:-

Josuha Guilavogui
Age 22
Club:- St Etienne
Position:- Defensive Midfielder
2 caps for France in 2013.
Height:- 6ft 2inches
Cost:- £6-8 million

Ticks a lot of boxes and seems to be a genuine DM, where his height would be advantageous in what is a relatively small midfield.
Could be one of Arsene's under-the-radar signings that frequently surprise us. Definite Arsenal interest is hard to gauge. Bad news might be that Monaco have shown some interest in last 2-3 days.
One to keep an eye on perhaps.
( Safe in the knowledge that Newcastle won't try to add him to their French contingent. Can you imagine Joe Kinnear trying to get his gums round that name

I love this debate about world class players not being world class. The quickest way to start a fight with an Arsenal crew is to claim that they don't have a single world class player.

I have always said that I think people have lost perspective on what it means to be world class. These days, if you aren't as good as Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and RVP then people say you aren't world class and that is stupid. World class, by definition, used to mean that a player would get into any international team and start for basically any club in a certain role (note role not position, because you can have a player in the same position with a different role). It shouldn't be any different now.

By this token, a lot more players are world class than 'modern' football fans like to give credit for. Like I said, if they aren't Messi, Ronaldo or Iniesta, they apparently 'aren't world class' when that's nonsense! There's world class, and then there's that extra special level of insane where RVP, Messi et al hang out.

Also, not getting into the Spain team does not mean you are not world class! E. g. Baines. He is a world class left back pure and simple, but imo he wouldn't get into the Spain team right now.

Our problem is we have a lot of players who straddle the line between really good and world class, and it's really hard to tell whether that is due to them being literally on the line, or due to the team's inconsistencies as a whole. We have a fair few players with world class parts to their game, and for me that does make them world class, it's simply down to a good manager to use those attributes to best effect. Like not playing a number 9 in central mid.

For example, Rosicky. IMO he is a world class centre mid, there are only about 4 players in the world who glide with the ball like he does. His ability to turn the pace of the game on its head and turn the balance of the game from defence into attack is only being matched by midfielders all over the place in the last few years. Where he falls down is his goals and assists which is why I say he is a CM not ACM. If a manager wanted a player who is good at linking the defence with the attacking mids, they'd be dumb not to consider him. But just because he isn't an assist/goal freak, doesn't mean he isn't world class. If anything he's misused (and where have we seen that before, hmm, can't think!).

Now, let the fighting commence! :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Baines is more suited to spains attacking style which is why he as not got far with England (plus cole). And world class gets thrown around way to much.

Higuain will not sign. Fellaini will not sign. Rooney will not sign. Us gooners need to stop being deluded and expect to sign these players. Every window its " exciting times, we've just signed mata", "fee and terms agreed for m'vila. Etc. It will probably be adrian lopez and wanyama. Even though we make champions league every year, we are not a top tier team. We are too far behind the othe 3 to be considered. We are miles from the title and dreaming if we think we'll be even close next season. We will be scrapping for fourth next season as well, and every year its getting tougher.

We have some of the most overrated players in the league. Including koscielny, vermaelen, giroud, sczesny, the ox and yes, even wilshere. Before u guys critisize me with regard to wilshere, he is a wonderfully gifted player, but he doesn't add enough goals or assists. He's all for show. And pretty cocky too.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm surprised 04 that you manage to get out of bed in the mornings with all the doom mongering happening in your mind.
Overrating players is a mine field of a subject.
One person's world class is another's bench player.
I will not disagree that some of our players are not the finished article as yet. but to suggest that Wilshere is overrated has simply no grounds. The grounds of a fabulous player that turns up in big games is there to see. Barca, Brazil, Bayern Munich matches to start with. Anyone with an ounce of understanding can see he is the real deal. That is not sentimentality on my behalf either. What people have got to remember is that Wilshere is still young and learning his trade. Believe me, if he were on the market there would be a scramble for his signature.
The others mentioned are improving, world class no, not yet. The Ox is young and will grow into a fantastic player. With age often comes consistency.
Picking up on your main point about the Team being miles off is, I believe, complete nonsense. I would never pick an individual like yourself for a team sport because you have a defeatist mentality. I appreciate your opinions and you are welcome to them.
All we need is some belief. We have proved against Bayern that we can compete with the best. Granted we need some squad editions and a proven goal scorer, Higuain if it happens will provision the conversion of chances missed last season.
It was people like you getting on Henry's back when he first arrived. He proved parties wrong. Let Giroud, Poldi and co settle before judging them too quickly, but most of all get behind the team or go and whinge somewhere else. Nothing personal!

i have no idea what you base your analysis upon, as the stats prove otherwise.

Wilshere, Cazorla, podolski are some of the most decisive players in europe.

in the top 60 list. published by football observatory fyi.

cazorla and poldi are more decisive than bale. and cazorla is the second most decisive in the EPL behind suarez.

walcott, scored during the most crucial spell, mert and koser and poldi did so too. that's what we want, players who can step up when the pressure is on them.

since dec, we have the best defensive record in the league and second best overall in the season.

we are the team which won most games @ 1-0.

yes it did not end up with a trophy, sadly we have been selling players, how can we compete. however, if we add to what we have, I am under no illusion that we can win some silverware.

if not the league title, the league cup or FA cup will do. and build from that, always with top 4 in mind.

we do have some over rated players, but they did not see the light of day when it counted and they know who they are.

i suggest you get behind the team and the manager. and go fully in. no one likes what's going on, but the transfer window is here, we have to be optimistic and support the team. and with some positive karma we could possibly have something to gloat about soon enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said guys, especially lakerville's post- well said.

We have been frustrated as fans, no doubt, I/we get that and waiting and hoping for a change where we not only have to sell our best players anymore, but actually add some quality as well- this summer looks like we have finally turned a corner.

As Baggins said, your post is petulant like a spoilt child saying, "its not fair" why isn't the club I 'support' having more glory- frustration is one thing, saying all our players are over rated is simply not true.

Barca, chelski, hey citeh are looking for new fans- why not "support" them?
