About the guard of honour for man utd.

We are arsenal a club that is known for our tradition and history and doing things the right way a club we are all proud of. our players will clap utd on to the pitch yes that would make me sick seeing that dirty judas walking on to the emirates pitch with a smug look on his boat but we should as fans respect Manchester United as league champions don't do anything at all to bring shame to us. But when the whistle goes give him whatever stick you want he deserves it and my god if our players ain't fired up after clapping them onto the pitch we should sell the whole team they don't deserve to wear our jersey. Come on arsenal let's get all three points against utd and fans let's make our club and all the other people involved proud of us as fans and do this guard of honour with dignity. We are the Arsenal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It sticks in my craw they won the league, but its not really United I'm pissed with, but 8 years of nearly men. I won't like it but they earned the salute, and when we win they'll hate it but they damn well will salute us because we'll have earned the respect. So Dave 6 has it right here IMHO.

Seriously, do we need Jovetic? wouldn't you rather the money was spent improving areas we need more?
I'd love to see Capoue or Bender. I really don't think we're as far off where we need to be in terms of players

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes - we need at least one more quality forward. We also need a quality midfielder and Capoue and either of the Benders would do the trick. We can afford both easily its just a matter of whether Wenger wants them and whether they want to come to us.

I just find it hilarious when people say once the FFP rules kick in Arsenal will rule Europe lol, Dortmund just quashed that notion last night. They basically have the cheapest squad in the UCL top 16, well shall I even say more. Forget these expensive players, its been proven time and again that most are horribly over inflated & undeserving of their price tags. I'm excited to see Gnabry, Eisfeld etc. in the 1st team next season, but hey maybe its just me. Oh before I go, who is the only team to whip Bayern at home in Europe this season! COYG

Have people ever considered a player might not leave because they are happy where they live? They are humans aswell. If I had a really awesome job prospect with 20/30% salary increase far from where I live I probably would leave because I love it here.

Just a thought.

Detroit Gooner {Ed002's Note - In Detroit?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Too easy a target Ed -:) but I've been to Detroit a fair bit, drive through it from the tunnel at Windsor. There's a lot of cool stuff around there, especially Ann Arbour and along the Michigan shoreline. The MidWest has a cool vibe going on if you know how to tap into it. Saw England play Germany there in the Silverdome too. Great atmosphere but we played like crap as per usual. No surprise we didn't make the World Cup. {Ed002's Note - I am from the West Coast which is a whole different world of course.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed - do you mean Wales then, or Cornwall?

Been away this week so sorry for covering this again. let's not be petty, they won the league we should applaud them out. RVP I believe knows in his conscience he left us shamefully after we showed great faith and patience with his injuries but that championship medal will justify the move in his head. I would rather just ignore him than boo him, he has gone and we can't change what's happened. Plus it won't affect him one bit.

I know we're all speculating on our summer purchases but let's get in the top 4 first.

Perfect summer and a realistic one
Rene adler - 5m
Benedikt Howedes - 15-18m
Victor Wanyama - 15m
Julian Draxler - 18m
Stevan Jovetic - 24m

thats a total of 77-80 million euros or just under 70 million pounds. Also the height and the physicality would improve drasticly. What are the chances of theese players happening?
I read an interveiw with Gtzes agent today, he said in an interview that Arsenal, manchester city and bayern all met the 37 million euro release clause. That should mean Arsenal are willing to spend money.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

These are the players I would also want this summer. german spine!
imranredman

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be over the moon with those signings but I think we'd still be in need of a class out and out striker so maybe swap jovetic with say the man of the moment lewondowski? Unless of corse wenger plays pod upfront in last 4 games and he shows us he can be our main striker

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a big fan of Howedes but he recently sighned a new deal with schalke so doubt he would go.
I'd change wanyama to Geoffrey Kondogbia of Seville. Similar players but feel Kondogbia playing in a superior league and having a pretty good season would edge it for me.

If you had the choice what calibre of player would you prefer, it sounds silly but I preferred the Arsenal of say 5 years ago with quite a young team when we was full of potential ( and to be honest not far off) as we was still considered to have one of the best teams now we are more a team full of mediocre players with the few exceptions.

So me I would prefer Grezimann over say Robben, building for the future (as long as it goes to plan)

Whereas now we are buying average to good mid-aged players, a better comparasion may be Jovetic over Gomez, you still need the mature older players for experience but I would like the club to look towards younger players for new signing as we're not going to buy a WC player in their prime (in the sense of Benzema when he was for sale) etc. So why get a 28 year old who's not really going to develop and get any better but rather start to decline?
At least with 20-23 year olds there yet to hit there peak?

I feel we no longer have that Philosophy transfer wise, the philosophy wasn't the problem it was the contract control that was.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Apr 2013 16:37:19
hi I know yep I know that we have jovetic I know for certain done deal now I think aw should go splash on fellaini, aubameng, corchia, and begovic these are players that are in our grasp but old tight wad will probably miss out on them just like we did david silva, hazard, toure yaya, and so on so we will only add to the alredy done deal of joetic with prob corchia and some unknown players. grow some wenger please.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Apr 2013 17:56:08
How is Jovetic a done deal? It's just another rumour circulating. Wenger has 'looked' at him, and that's about as far as it goes at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

How many times you going to get bit before you learn?

Look at previos seasons m'villa, Hazard to name a few

Never done until its signed sealed and delivered especially arsenal related

Agree0 Disagree0

In no way stirring the angry pot but Yaya was solely down to work permit issues. At the time, he couldn't play in this country. Every other aspect was as close to a done deal as could be. I don't believe Silva was ever an option as at the time Arsenal still had Fabregas and Hazard was probably down to wages. M'villa was a viable option but due to his love of being arrested, Wenger moved on.
I've seen the articles about Jovetic being virtually a done deal and it is entirely possible but let's just put on our calm-down trousers and see what the summer brings ;-)

Anyone else think a cheeky bid for Scott Sinclair wouldn't go a miss, good pacy winger and would add too the English contingent. Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No. I don't want to see any more average to good players in this squad. Our squad is large just lacking a few really good attacking players at the level of Jack and Cazorla. If they ain't at that level then no thanks.

Sinclair is no better than Podoski, Walcott, Cazorla, Jack or even Giroud or Ox so no way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I would be in favour of that, he was good at swansea but hasn't been given playing time since joining city and putting him on the left wing would allow podolski to play central striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

He may be no better than poldi, wally and chambo atm, but I don't see them as natural wingers which is what we need. Sinclair is and should go for around the 6m or so man city paid for him, fits the wage structure aswel

Agree0 Disagree0

I've always rated Sinclair he's definitely btr than gervinhio but i'd rather we go for Adam Johnson I kno he's been average for Sunderland but wenger could bring him b to his best

Agree0 Disagree0

I think his lack of playing time over the last two seasons (?) would be a major issue. It would take a good long while for him to get up to speed. Potentially, he may never hit the same level he once did. Winger wise, I think with the addition of another centre forward, Arsenal already have Walcott, Chamberlain, Myiachi and Podolski. That makes for some great rotation.

we never had a realistic chance of signing goetze, same with hazard and mata. yes, we may be very interested in these players and it's also very possible that wenger was scouting them before anyone else, but once the price tag gets above a certain level we simply cannot compete with the money grabbers.

we are built to be sustainable and buying 2 players for 70 million is far from that unless we can keep that level of profit generation going.

wenger refuses to overpay for players so we will never see a 45 million bid for falcao or anything ridiculous like that, and once FFP comes into effect we will hopefully be playing on a more level playing field instead of constantly punching above our weight as we have been forced to do for some time now.

form is temporary, class is permanent.
arsenal forever,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We did have a realistic chance of signing Mata and Hazard. Mata we just didn't want to pay £23m which now looks cheap. Hazard was £17m about two years ago which now looks cheap. Falcao we were actually linked with when he was playing in South America so presumably there was some interest then.

Agree0 Disagree0

What i'm saying is that we only have a chance of signing these players as long as there is no interest from the money grabbers (chelsea, united, city, psg, barca, real).

wenger offers what he think is reasonable but any offer we make will be tripled by these clubs, meaning triple the transfer fee to the club and triple the offer in wages to the player, essentially taking our offer out of the picture.

i would love to see these players at the emirates as badly as any other gooner, but as I said, we are punching above our weight class.

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't Mata turn us down on personal terms? As we wasn't ambitious enough?

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata was wages I believe. He wanted over 100k a week. Everything was golden

Ross

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata was only on 80k for chelsea last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata has a wage of 67k for chelsea.
Not sure where you got 100k from.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eh?

Mata's personal terms were agreed with him, what messed it up was having agreed terms with him, we then wouldn't meet his buy-out. Chelsea came along, met the buy-out, and matched our wage offer.

Agree0 Disagree0

And yes, you read that right - Juan Mata earned less last season than Chamakh did/does.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really? Ok, I stand corrected.

Its a worrying sign we had a chance to meet Goetze get out clause, and yeet again failed to act. It will be the same old rubbish in the summer, kids and second rate players. We need a marquee signing just one big name that's all I want. Spend the whole 70m on 2 world class players and make a statement, but we all know it ain#t going to happen. I hate the summer, seeing all those great players going else where while we by kids and second rate players, because wenger is scared to take a chance on a big name. I would sooner him take that chance and fail than sign another kid.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Even if we had of matched it, who to say he would have joined us? aren't Munich paying him 110k a week and could almost defo promise a CL win in his career

how can we match that? oh here's 80K a week and we might just make CL this year? come on mate look at the bigger picture we can not compete with Bayern Munich some times you have to except that
dandan

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Dandan, it's not always as simple as fans think, just to add as well that really he is similar to players we already have and I would rather see Eisfeld step up to the first team and have us spend the big money on a goal machine.

337

Agree0 Disagree0

Dandan is dead right. Be realistic. If you think buying 2 world class players with this "£70m" is the answer you need think again. We need 5 or 6 excellent additions to the squad to make us competitive for an entire season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Even if we were the only club in for Goetze and we matched his clause why would he join us? Dortmund are 2nd in their league and recent winners, Semi-finals of champs league and have several world class players. We don't come close (sorry it hurts)

Agree0 Disagree0

Dortmund are a bigger club ATM

Agree0 Disagree0

Munich have a very large appeal at the moment. With their recent success and the arrival of Pep you're potentially looking at a German Barcelona. Plus, for someone as young he most likely wanted to stay in his home country and be close to his family and friends. You can't blame the kid really. He's gone from the second best team in Germany to the first.

Ross

Agree0 Disagree0

No Dortmund are NOT a bigger club than us! Never have never will be! People make me sick when they say stupid things like this! Yes they have a better team atm but for the last ****ing time, WE ARE THE ARSENAL

Agree0 Disagree0

If Arsenal are a bigger club than Dortmund then arguably Liverpool are bigger club than Arsenal. I would say at the moment Dortmund are a bigger club in terms of attracting and retaining players.

Agree0 Disagree0

4th most profitable team in football
Quality new stadium
Bigger wage bill
More fans throughout the world
Situated in one of the biggest cities in the world
That is why we are a bigger club than the Germans

My Dream summer transfer window,

GK, Handanovic (Inter)
RB, Abate (Milan)
CDM DeRossi (Roma)
LW DiMaria (RMadrid)
RW Maggio (Napoli)
ST Cavani (Napoli)

Nas

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dream RB Abate? dream GK Handanovic really? any goalie in the world and you want Handanovic? Abate no better than walker great forward questionable coming back

Di Maria good shout

dandan

Agree0 Disagree0

Dandan am sorry but handanovic is amongst the top 6 in the world.
iwarutis

Agree0 Disagree0

If this was a dream list then Messi, Ronaldo, Pique, etc. If you're trying to be realistic then why include Cavani who we will never get?

If you swap Cavani for Jovetic and De Rossi for Wanyama then you probably have all realistic signings that we can dream will all come off.

Agree0 Disagree0

All i'm saying is this is a dream list so why would you go for a top 6 goalie you'd go for number 1 or 2 would you not?

Casillas or Neuer?

just my thinking

dandan

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats your dream summer?

okay mate, everyone has that special something for certain players, I for one love Capoue and can't stand Neymar, Ronaldo or Suarez.

But I don't see the need for De Rossi, we need world class players yes, and he is a world class player. But I can't see us going after someone that is that loyal.

the only way Di Maria would sign is if Bale joined Madrid, but even then they love having 3 great players for various positions (Kaka, Ozil and Modrid for AM) so Di Maria leaving isn't likely.

My perfect summer, but also being realistic and spending a lot of money would be:

begovic/mignolet/adler
n'koulou/ Kouyate/dragovic
wanyama/capoue/gonalons
draxler/cabella/dzagoev
jovetic/lewandolski/cavani

i understand that lewandolski and cavani are very very unlikely, but I think breaking the bank for one of them (lewandolski IMO) would be great for arsenal.

also wanyama has said he's staying at celtic, but this doesn't mean he is 100%, if an offer comes in for celtic which would be hard to refuse, then the lure of champions league (provided we get it) would also be hard to refuse.

perfect summer would be jovetic, capoue and keisuke honda to mentor ryodinho! great player and great left foot! also would love to see the back of gervinho, chamakh, djourou, park, ect ect ect ect ect.

maybe an attacking 4 in a 4-4-2 of honda left mid. poldi-jovetic cf. the ox right mid

with options in walcott, giroud, ryodinho, gnabry, eisfield? Also all these players can play in a 4-3-3 like we normally play aswell!

25 Apr 2013 11:45:32
What happened to Wilshere and Cazorla?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats more of an alternative to what we use! when we use our 4-3-3 cazorla and wilshere are starters! just that we seem to be sticking with 4-3-3 till the death. when we are in a tough game or drawing it never hurts to have a plan B and all of the players I suggested are just as comfortable in a 4-3-3 as they are in 4-4-2.

+ wilshere and cazorla for me are midfielders don't realy rate santi on the wings!

Hey guys,

Interesting question for ya

If you could have any ex-Arsenal player back in this team who would it be?

Not necessarily your favourite or the best, but the player that this team would benefit having most?

I couldn't easily decide so i'm just going to go with Viera, gut instinct. :)

ed what do you think as well?

noobGooner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sol Campbell
Thierry Henry
Gilberto silva

We need a good solid CB and Campbell was that (Adams may be a tad to slow) and Henry as I feel he was one of the best ever and anytime would still have him in his prime, Gilberto as he has been what our midfield has been missing big time
Dandan

Agree0 Disagree0

Bergkamp. Absolute genius, who colud mentor the young strikers, and teach the older ones a thing or two. And teach Walcott what it mwans to play for Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

Vieira in his prime.

Got to be tony adams Mr Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

The defense has tightened up abit, giroud seems to get a lot of stick. so i'd say, because I love him Thierry Henry, but even though my love for him is more astronomical than City's transfer budget, i'd say bergkamp. he was magical

lets just turn our backs on him just like he did to every arsenal fan/supporter when he decided to jump ship.

malaga gooner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well we should let him know he is never welcome. he can go become a united legend for all I care. never existed as a gooner.

Agree0 Disagree0

We should turn our backs and stand in complete silence when they come out for the guard of honour. {Ed002's Note - Why would the fans wish to embarrass the club like that?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Just take it on the chin and clap stop being so Childish and petty.

dandan

Agree0 Disagree0

I feel we should turn our backs and boo him! People saying its pettie, how is it? We offered RVP everything and stood by him through his injuries and then moves to one of our biggest rivals! Well if RVP turns his back on us, then he feels its fine to come back and not expect anything, then he will be severely wrong! We should give him the pain of not respecting us, for what he gave us! Maybe Iam bitter, but no real Gooner leaves arsenal for a massive rival!

Gooner Red

Agree0 Disagree0

I for one don't blame Van Persie for leaving. He supposedly met with Wenger & the board & didn't think the club was going to match his ambitions. Turns out he was right, he's now won a Championship & we're still not guaranteed Champions League. Instead of having a go at him we should be having a go at Wenger & the board for allowing the club to go into such a decline with their bargain basement sisignings.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Id love mandzukic. great player. can't see him leaving bayern. why would he? pep coming in, already added with signing of m. g. bayern are going from strength to strength. even if lewendowski comes in I think he'll stay. if any forward is leaving bayern it will be gomes.

Higuain was awful today what's happened to him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alot of people don't watch la liga. I do and what it is, is basically a basketball game. where they have one superstar who is fed the ball almost every forward attack and you take him out aka bayern and dortmund and they are left scrambling.

benzema has been rubbish, higuain has been rubbish, villa has been rubbish, sanchez has been rubbish, pedro has been rubbish. one man teams can't win all the time.

barca and madrid need some proper talent to add around their superstars or they will be left to win their games when their superstars are having their days.

Agree0 Disagree0

He gets no service.

They needed a proper winger yesterday. Instead they had 2 number 10s and 2 strikers w Alonso and Khedira

There was no width. Same problem Barca had against Bayern

I can guarantee you Higuain doesn't miss a third of Giroud's chances and if work rate is what we like, Pipa works just as hard as Ollie, case in point backtracking the entire pitch to knock Kuba's shot out for a corner

If they sell we should be lined up

Agree0 Disagree0

Hmm I see

Agree0 Disagree0

Ofcourse we should line up and take any of Higuain and benzema. the barca two for me are not what we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lakerville you claim you watch la liga and then say higuain has been rubbish? clearly u only watched him against barca. higuain is awesome. just what arsenal need. and about yesterday the reason he was rubbish was because of mourinhos tactics. if ozil played centrally and di maria started you would have seen a different higuain.
iwarutis

Agree0 Disagree0

I think what a lot of people forget, is that the Spanish league consists of two incredible teams, a handful of ok teams and a lot of terrible teams. It's very easy for Real and Barca to look great in La Liga because they're constantly coming up against mediocre opposition. As soon as you put them up against teams that have real quality, all the cracks start to show.
