Somebody said a few moons ago, this is a great team. Well great teams and great managers don't cock up time after time after time. Smell the coffee boys and girls we are average to good at best and I don't see it improving too soon. Our players are not cutting it at the top table and that is a fact.

It has to rank as the worst performance for many many months

Time an again in the big games Wenger and His team are found out for lack of discipline, desire and Focus. We just switch off too many times in big games and you just can't afford to do that. You can forgive one or two games like this but this happens every big game we play when there is something to play for and the pressure is on. The lack of balance in midfield is costing us dear with far too many attacking players that Wenger try's to squeeze into the team. I would not be surprised if we won the 2nd leg 2-0 now because we play well when the pressure is off and it too late as always.

Not enough leaders and characters in the team, we need more players with the mentality of the Ox and Sanchez not players that hide like Ozil when the pressure is on.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Feb 2015 00:09:23
We have square pegs for round holes. Westill need a world class spine. Wenger will not bring us this. Ozil can go people can keep saying give him time I'm sorry he just isn't upto it.

Playing cazorla centre mid is criminal. And I stil believe coq is a squad player.

25 Feb 2015 22:56:14
Just watching the invincibles everyone a leader in that side, so far away from what we have now .

What a brilliant squad that was

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - best british side i ever seen in all my years of watching footy BG..

25 Feb 2015 23:47:07
Kind of makes you cry comparing the team we have now. That side had it all really bags of character and desire, loads of skill, technique, pace and power and the knowhow to win at all costs in any given situation.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 23:38:35
What a difference aye BG

Every player played with heart, for the badge and most of all for each other.

It brings a tear to the eye seeing how much we've declined over the years :(

That my friends is what you call a TEAM ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 23:43:12
The invincibles were the best English side I've ever seen but when thing went wrong they too lacked leaders, examples the CL defeat to chavs when they went ahead on aggregate I remember screaming at the TV for someone to get the team going and saying to my son tonight we lack a Tony Adams, again after the utd defeat even the invincibles struggled to pick themselves up and Arsene dropped Lehman to show his disapproval. I think we have lacked a backs against the wall leader since big Tony to be honest, just my honest opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 22:42:56
1) Let's give Monaco credit.
They had a tactic, a formation and a game plan.
They executed it to perfection.

2) That said, they had 5 regular first teamers out, a completely new back 4 and an 18 year old making his third appearance for the club.

3) Giroud, what the hell?
How on earth did you miss that?

4) Welbeck, had the whole goal to aim for and kicks it straight at Theo.
Than blames Theo.

5) No width.
The way Monaco had set up formation, we played into their hands.
Too narrow. Their defence coped easily.

6) Why did Ospina roll the ball out every time?
Change the play, kick the ball out from time to time, change tactics.

7) Wenger, show some class.
Yes, we lost but at least shake their managers hand.
Classless.

8) Mertesacker.
Sorry, that should be his last game in an Arsenal shirt.
Yes, Ox lost the ball for their 3rd, but Mert should have got back quicker to be in between their player and Ospina when he took the shot.
Get Gabriel on from now on.

9) This may come across as anti Arsenal.
We always get knocked out in this stage, so tonight is no surprise.
I'm gutted but expected nothing less.

10) Importantly, how is this going to effect the rest of our campaign?
This could be a very damaging defeat.
I fear for the rest of the season.

11) Ozil.
Don't, just don't.
I would not be bothered if we sold him tomorrow.
Fairweather player.
Unsuited to Prem League, even if its against euro opposition.

totally agree and we had the dream draw! i dread to think what barca, madrid or bayern would of done to us

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 23:24:22
Our main problem as I have said many times before is that we have a unbalanced option of midfielders too many small technical central attacking midfielders with no clue and often no real desire to defend and get back into position.

Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil, Ox, Wilshire, Rosicky all best as attacking central midfielders. Then because of this Wenger plays them out of position just to fit them all in to the detrement of the team. In effect the sum of our parts is much less than the sum of the individual players. We are just not a cohesive unit. Against smaller teams our individuals like Sanchez can win us the games but in big games you need better more rigid balance and a real effective tactical game plan to win.

Ozil was complete waste of a purchase and is just a total waste of a man playing him out wide. Too many players coming inside making it too narrow, forcing fullbacks to attack too much for width then leaving CB's exposed on counter because nobody in midfield sits deep enough to cover. This is nothing new it's been like this for years now.

The question is why can't Wenger see this and do something about it he has years to get us a better balanced squad and has failed to do so.

I my opinion we should sell Ozil, Podolski and for decent offer Cazorla aswell to allow us to buy players that will improve us as team with better all round balance. We should go all Out for Pogba in my opinion and also another more expierced DM in say Schneiderlin. let's get some more physicality in there.

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Feb 2015 00:18:14
AW does see it but I have said time and time again Wenger is arrogant he thinks he can play all off the park, M City away being the only game to challenge that comment. He believes in total football and believes as long as we have the ball we will win.

25 Feb 2015 22:25:08
Another big game and another game where our players go missing. We never have one player who has a bad a game its always 11.

We can talk about tactics and naivety but when 11 players have a poor game you are going to lose matches. I've been a pro wenger fan here and I don't think he's tactics were the issue, but he has a huge issue on motivating his players and it keeps happening.

Monaco were brilliant tonight but I still think we shouldve beat them. Just time and time again we let ourselves down in big games. If we played at 100% and lose I will accept it but to lose like that is pathetic.

Even though we had a poor season I still wanted wenger to stay. But watching our players not turning up is really hard to swallow.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

25 Feb 2015 22:37:17
Monaco weren't brilliant let's get that straight, we were abysmal

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Feb 2015 06:01:38
I would not say Monaco were brilliant. They didn't beat us, we beat ourselves. We were wasteful, they were clinical with their few chances. That was the difference

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 22:11:40
When I saw Gibbs was starting tonight I must admit I was worried Arsene had underestimated Monaco's ability to hit us on the break.
I'm not knocking Gibbs or Arsene its just a fact that he loses disapline defensively which to me can only mean the manager whole team like many fans all got Monaco's took Monaco far to lightly going into the game.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Feb 2015 22:53:18
Gunner fans can take monaco lightly that not the problem. It the team taking monaco lightly, that might be. Or just not good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 23:13:14
Personally Steve I think everyone from the kit man to the tea lady and a lot of fans have been looking for to the QF ever since we drew Monaco in the last 16. As a club from top to bottom we didn't show the respect Monaco deserved, OK the result doesn't depend what the fans think but my point is like the manager/players many fans thought it was foregone conclusion

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 23:31:55
Agreed 62

Hence why I think we would have been better with a draw against the likes of Juventus

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 22:11:32
Worst home performance for years. But heres a question - why play the way we've been smashed before with two fullback up at the oppositions goal and Mertersacker on his tod against quick wingers/ strikers?

We got done again by the same thing that United keep nailing us on, utter rubbish and to be honest Per could possibly hand up his boots on that performance. He is tortoise quick and cost us two goals. Really angry.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Feb 2015 22:24:34
The big German should never have gone towards the player with ball as there were another 3 Arsenal players near the man with the ball, if he stayed with his man the 2nd goal wouldn't have been conceded

If's and but's, its gone now.

Were we really going to win the CL?

Clear the mid week games now ..............reality strikes i'm afraid .

I did expect us to go through and then go out in the QF's.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 22:48:00
I don't normally knee jerk post but that should be Mertesackers last game for us.

Cost us dearly, again.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Feb 2015 06:07:00
I can't believe people did not see the problem with yesterday's match. We failed to score... Why did we fail to score? Please watch that game again. Our midfielders created chances but we have a certain sacred cow, the one whose name I shall not mention cost us the game. If he head scored 2 of his 4 chances by half time, it would have been a completely different match

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 22:09:01
Bit ironic they talk about John Robertson.....my Dad( RIP) used to say watch John Robertson, he will get chalk on his boots and Souness is correct, we didn't stretch them at all.

Again the pundits go back to Arsene's type of style, we try to play lovely football and we can't change it.

Yes Giroud missed 3 very good opportunities but let's not just blame him, so many players were very poor.

2nd goal was dreadful defending, and the 3rd goal I blame the keeper.

Play the reserves in the 2nd leg, this has gone now. 3-0 we ain't going to win

Believable1 Unbelievable0

25 Feb 2015 22:21:59
I didn't think it would be Girouds fault 7 attempts and none on target, Yeo couldn't be his fault ....., Yawn.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 22:39:26
Gosh

I am sorry I didn't realise Giroud covers all 11 positions.

Please explain why it was his fault for any of the three goals?

You need to change your agenda you might see some reality

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 22:50:01
He was very poor tonight.

Can't believe the sitter he missed.

And than Welbeck did the same, only worse.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 23:04:32
He was poor Dags but my point his EVERYONE was, even Santi looked short as did Sanchez.

Wellbeck, I am starting to wonder what he is bringing to the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - to be fair BG, danny has not played much lately, and came into a side that stank the house out tonight..

25 Feb 2015 23:31:12
Totally agree Bambam.

Our biggest problem is we don't have a leader.

Somebody vocal like Adams or Vieira.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 23:40:12
I never said any of the goals we shipped tonight were Girouds fault did I?? that's not his job 7 attempts and not one on target is simply not good enough....if a keeper let every shot in you'd be calling for his head

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Feb 2015 00:20:08
But you can't blame this defeat on Giroud, if he scores 2 we still concede 3?

If it ended 0-0 I would take your point, as it is your blame isn't justified

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 22:06:23
Absolute shambles!!

Where's the leader?
Where's the boss?

Not one player looked up for it.
Ozil was a joke tonight, pathetic performance, if you don't wanna play for this club then F off.

Someone needs a slap!

Raging......rant over :(

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Feb 2015 22:20:30
The only thing you can say is it was a one off, I posted about a danger of having the attitude that the game is won before you take to the pitch, typical example of that . You can't help thinking if it had been Juventus at home it would have been a different story.

A wake up call, maybe at the right time, let's kick on another run

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 21:57:36
Oh dear same old arsenal, same old problems, it is like gground hog day all over again. From what I could make out on radio poor tactics and naivety. I won't say what they said about giroud. Three good games and the test comes and we are found wanting.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - great post steve, so positive and warm...happy steve day mate.. :)

25 Feb 2015 22:14:24

Long time reader, first time posting, i feel sorry for all the fans who paid there money tonight, because the team just didn't show up. we have no passion, no one in the team tonight that was shouting at trying to pick the team up, no urgency to get the ball when we lost it, and most of all i felt sorry for Ox, he scored a cracking goal then lost the ball in the middle of the park and bust a gut when no one else did to try and win it back at the end. mistakes cost us dearly tonight.

Keep up the good work guys, i love the banter on this site, keeps me going reading all the opinions and banter even when the results go against us!

Why was ozil left on? Why didn't wenger give a toss? Worst performance of the season. This was supposed to be our chance to get to the next round.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Feb 2015 22:11:58
Time and again the big games shows that we lack the mentality and focus to manage such pressure games. Not enough characters and leaders in the side. Yes the first goal was lucky but sloppy defending for 2nd and 3rd goals. A 1-0 loss would not have been total disaster but at 3-1 no chance to go through now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - of course theres a chance ryan..a slim one granted..

25 Feb 2015 21:48:45
Expected nothing less, everyone to bullish about this game, the crowd should be as ashamed as much as the players they made no noise until the 88 min because they just thought it would be a walk over! We play to slow with ozil playing, we should send out a youth team in the next game at least Monaco won't know what to expect! So be prepared for the next leg, it's very simple we domanite the whole game and win 2-0, go home as usual, our players are so arrogant so immature and so stupid! I'm glad I had a drink tonight!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - you deserve one after that rick..

25 Feb 2015 21:44:52
Sloppy and Naïve performance. The mentality and focus in these games is just not up to scratch. Fair play to Monaco they were solid in defence and efficient on the counter. They got lucky with the first goal but they deserved the win. Ozil again offers next to nothing ox should be starting.

25 Feb 2015 19:42:05
Hi all,
Saw someones post a few days back about Santi leaving for spain and whether he would be replaced with a youngster and the name Beckham was used in his list of youngsters. My fame to claim is i used to play with brooklyn at bobby charlatans school of soccer in cheshire as did david when he was younger, travelling down to london to play in cheshire. He was a couple of years younger than me but I have to say he was awful! He went off the pitch and had to be forced back on by David and didn't look to like football at all (around aged 9) now around 6 years later he is in arsenals under 18s youth team. just shows what good coaching can do. Or was this just because david trained with us in the summer? i think so as he is now about to be releases, i can defiently confirm he isn't one for the future or the Prem. both of the other brothers are at renal i know nothing of their credentials. So isn't really a rumour concerning anything major at arsenal but is a nice story to tell and brooklyn will defiently never play for a top team, i guarantee. If you look in david beck hams my side biography there is a picture of me and him at the school of soccer, very proud of this sorry if i sound just like I'm showing off a bit but is my fame to claim

25 Feb 2015 19:09:15
Think Wenger has got his team selection spot on. Ospina keeps his place, Bellerin and Gibbs back in side and Welbeck also keeps his place.

Monaco are very defensive and are likely to sit back and try keep a clean sheet. Cazorla and Ozil allows us extra creativity and Sanchez on his day can dribble past any defence. Welbeck, I feel this kind of game doesn't suit him, but we need his workrate and acceleration, aswell as his good instinctive finishing. Bellerin and Gibbs give us extra attacking options if we are struggling to break them down.

Im going for 1-0 to the Arsenal. The beautiful Giroud to score from a well worked team goal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Feb 2015 19:28:20
I think Walcott on the bench could be our secret weapon.

Fresh legs in the last 20 minutes.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2015 19:01:49
Welbeck on the left and Theo on the bench again.

I know Welbeck works hard and has had a hand in a lot of our goals recently, but I still feel we're a much better side and more balanced with Walcott on the right and Sanchez on the left. Hope this is still caution regarding Theo's knee.

Steve MgM don't worry were having a committee meeting straight after the game to set a date to form a plan which once approved by the Eds we will set in motion as long as everyone's agreed on the plan, but even if not all agree don't worry we can still go to phase two second vote where a 85% agreement will allow us to amend plan A with an even better plan B.
We'll soon have you out of this situation boys, well I say soon, you can never rush these things as you both well know but just also know were working on it day and night, well I say day and night! Never mind leave it to us lads, and don't worry!

Was discussing Giroud's record and recent form with the old man over lunch. Then I checked out some recent footage of him.

Now I know I'm normally one of the first guys to start giving him stick, but I'm starting to warm to the guy now. I'm still not 100% convinced, but these latter stages of the season could be his time to show us that he can lead the line in challenging for the title. Recently, he's been scoring for schnitzengiggles, and is starting to bury all of the simple chances that this time last season, he would have missed. And his record in the league isn't all that bad - 35 goals in 85 PL appearances - 15 of those apps were from the bench. 50 goals in 117 apps in all competitions, 25 of those apps coming from the bench. As a statistic alone, that's bloody good.

And he's turned up for us in some big games this season, home and away, which was something we lacked last season, a striker who can score in the big games. This season he's scored at Anfield, The Etihad, Goodison, that stunner against United, and a double at home to Newcastle when they were in hot form, the peach against City in the Community shield, his assist for Rosicky's volley at Brighton and of course his MOTM performance against Boro.

So i think it's safe to say, the lad's done OK considering he was out for 3 months at the start of the season, and I think I'll give Giroud the benefit of the doubt until the end of the season and see what kind of form he's in over the next three months before I start drooling over the prospect of Cavani, Benzema or Dyabala.

When you look at the stats, it's surely not too much to ask.

I think that our style of play is designed to work with any striker. The cutch dunt is a completely different mould to Giroud, and look how successful he was in our style of play. Any striker that comes to us, if they're good enough, will make an impact in my opinion, because of our style of play.

Long range prediction, the Qatar world cup will never happen or if it does it will there will be lots of counties who won't take part.
There are so many reasons it shouldn't have even got started in the first place to ever survive another 7 years.
The whole thing was as bent as a corkscrew from day one and with blaters power slowly deminishing ( even if he hangs on to the job ) there's too much time for good sense and decency to prevail between now and then.

I agree with your views..... the conclusion may well be wrong (I hope not).
Unfortunately there is also time for the corrupt people who are involved to get the spin doctors and spokesmen on their side and for votes to be cast for cash.
