Here's a tip for everyone who dislikes/hates Wilshere.
Stop expecting him to be World Class, stop putting so much expectation on him.
We have better players than him, we have worse players than him.
You don't all slate Arteta because he isn't setting the world on fire do you?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Easy my man, Arteta is the most underrated player on the team. His style is not to set the world on fire but make those around him better. Highly valuable unsung hero. let's move on from this subject.

So, if you are a parent, and your child is not doing well at school, and you want them to do better, does that mean you dislike/hate your child?

You think so Red? Not sure mate, but still wouldn't rinse him the way Wilshere gets rinsed on this site ;)
Dags, Not even similar in the slightest. but I would not post on Facebook about how badly he was doing, so no. And I definitely wouldn't attack him personally about his motives and attitude.

Agree0 Disagree0

LG I am want big things from Jack too. Still, I would not want to risk the season on him or Diaby at this point. For me, I would spot start him and use him as a sub in the first half to get him sharp and trust he can stay healthy, same for Diaby. At some point we will need him either through injuries or big moment and if is meant to be the legend will grow. let's not forget he was too young and behind Ramsey and still got his big break from an injury there. Cheers mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Poor Jackie poo's people always picking on him, its not as if he says and does things off the pitch that's made people fed up with him is it!
If he can make some headlines on the pitch it would be a nice change, oh and with the ball not his fingers

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 22:57:31
I have to agree, JW has NOT been at his best, and have to agree I do NOT think he is a DM. We still need Khedira, Schneiderlin or Bender AND William Carvalho AND Jackson Martinez. We can dream, can't we?

Hats off to Amano! Seems to have got the Chambers deal 2 days before we did. that's what we like :) Great posting!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cheers mate, should hopefully be able to shed some light on the Schneiderlin situation in the next couple of days. However for the moment its not looking like good news.

Another Wilshere post.

We are all drooling at the mouth at the signing of Alexis Sanchez, and for obvious reasons.

Theoretically, if Jack played for another team, prem team or foreign team, and we just signed him, would you be drooling at the mouth at his arrival, ala Sanchez.

I was overjoyed when Ozil signed, am overjoyed with the signing of Sanchez, not sure if I would be as excited with the signing of 'Jack Wilshere'.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2014 22:47:59
Unless you're Real Madrid or Barca not everyone in your squad will be world class.
Not all of the players can be box office and have you drooling, you can have average players in the squad, we have quite a few, so do City, Chelski and United. and to say Wilshere is anything less than average would be very harsh.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be lol he's custard

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 22:52:59
Kinda get what your saying to a degree but also, we've lived and breathed Jack from the expectations of the lad at 16, we've not had that with Ozil or Sanchez so it's impossible to compare them and unfair on Jack to do so.
Has Ozil really lived up to what we'd thought he'd be? i'm not sure I'd pay what we did after his first season and I'm still not convinced he's got the stones for the EPL tbh, Sanchez hasn't kicked a ball for us yet although I'm convinced he'll do well.

Jack is a great player and put in some very good performances last season, I wouldn't want to see him leave or play for a rival, he has the ability and talent to turn his form around as much as Ramsey did.

So maybe answer this, would you have bought Ramsey after season 11/12? different story after last season though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags the reason you would and are overjoyed at various signings, is because they have excited you from afar. They have got accolades from around the world. Jack so far has been a firework waiting to explode and the touch paper is burning. Its a long touch paper,  is it going to explode of just go puff.

Agree0 Disagree0

As with all Arsenal players I want Jack to be brilliant and be the best he can possibly be.
I love a trier like Jenks and have and always will back him 100% and believe he could well be our next Aaron success story.
As for Nicky B he threw it all away and I lost patience's with him long before Arsene did, I'm getting close to that stage with Jack now.
Love a trier and have no time for wasters

Agree0 Disagree0

This is jacks make or break year, we gave ramsey a lot of stick, mainly because he could not handle the pressure, he settled himself mentally, worked harder, and shoved that criticism right in our faces, but I just don't see jack living up to it.

he has too many off field distractions, he talks too much, but fails to improve, if he is happy to be a first team player and make the sub bench and that's what he has himself destined for then I have no quandry. but to put him on a pedestal and claim he will be as good as ramsey is a joke, as some posters like to point out.

Does he have the talent? Yes

So does balotelli.

do we know how they are going to waste it? YES

its happened before in football and it will happen again.

to succeed as a teenager or a young lad in his 20's requires determination, motivation, sacrifice, attitude, willingness to learn, patience. things a normal kid in his 20's won't have, so its only a select breed, who are driven by themselves to succeed that make it to the very top, and from what I have seen of jack soo far, i'm going to say this is his make or break year, if he does not put in the hours during pre season and push himself to the limit, he never will.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like the fact people on here slated Aaron Ramsey to a degree iv never seen before towards an arsenal player of recent time. Fast forward 18months and he's irreplaceable. It took an injury free period of 12-18 months for Ramsey
to get to where he is now.
Now I'm a fan of wilshere but I'm certainly not blinkered when it comes to his flaws. However I do believe that if he gets the injury free run that Ramsey has had then we will see the form we all know he can produce.
It was embarrassing when Ramsey got the abuse. It was like people on here only supported 10 out of the 11 players. It's getting that way with Wilshere now.

Hi Ed,
Before the world cup, we were linked with a couple of highly rated young Brazilian defenders (forgot their names!) Was that just make believe? Or, did the deals fall through? Or, are they still being looked at by the gunners?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No idea man.}

25 Jul 2014 22:14:34
all this critique of JW10 is warranted but; similar to what Wenger said to Ramsey about 'going back to basics basics basics' and 'adapting your game. as the crowd doesn't like the way you play. ',

well then maybe this new role for Jack will let him do more with less, if he sticks to defensive duty (harassing off the ball, pressuring any players in our final third, putting his foot in) he will show a better side to his game, with Arteta/Flamini to clean up after him while also having the same responsibility, we won't see him barging forward, going past a player then falling to the ground,
we'll see him beat a player near the half way line and spread the ball to someone who has the ability to break and beat players

because who else in our team can really go past players like that in small spaces? when he gets it right, he gets it dead right sometimes, so he definitely has the ability

maybe that's what Wenger has in mind for him?

just a thought for all those slating/half slating Jack, he's quick off his heels, a good eye for a pass, strong enough to hassle and pressure strikers and bigger midfielders for someone his size and most importantly, DOESN'T change the way our midfield would work,
if we have a true defensive midfielder we lose an extra body in the opponents final third to pass to, to then open up space for someone else, making the whole way we play kind of redundant as we don't do well in tight spaces where a quick skill and quick feet are needed in midfield (IMO)

TL;DR = JW10 COULD do well as a defensive minded player (none of that CDM label please)

C'mon everyone get off jacks case as you will all be proved wrong he will be our best player he will come back better than ever he is custard lol trust me a lot of you will look silly when he comes good and gutted when barca and everyone wants him. Be careful what u wish for because if we get on his back now he won't forget it when barca come calling, so come on you guys we know how good he can be so let him ride this bad patch and get through it. He will be the worlds best mid trust me. As for him being used as a dm take no notice as a lot of players train in different positions. Although he may be used as a desperate back up for our new world class dm that we will surely buy. Ok rant over so start shooting me. Whilshere is my hero

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i dont think the guys are ganging up on him MG, i just think he is a very talented guy who is wasting the god given gift that has been bestowed on him mate..

Barca calling?? He will have to improve ten fold for that .

He became complacent end of story, others have passed him, he has it all to do .

Fagging it and getting into fights and having a troubled personal life certainly won't do him any favours

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think he meant barnsley BG.. :)

25 Jul 2014 22:21:30
I think a few of the comments against him are unjustified, and I certainly don't think he can play the dm, we'd all be suprised at what players do behind closed doors, it's just jack does it for all to see.

He can be a world beater, I think he will show it this year (in a more advanced role).

Maids,

Mustard not custard, lol

For me, Jack is probably the player that Gooners talk about the most, be it on here, at a workplace or in the pub with your mates.

We use the word 'potential', isn't that a word we should be using for players like Jenks, Sanogo and Gnabry? Young players who have only put the shirt on a few times.

Yes, Jack is 'only' 22, but has been pretty much a first team regular for year's. I'm not saying he should be 'peaking' yet, but his career has regressed and not progressed.

Sure, he has had injuries, not his fault you could argue, but if he had a better first touch, than he wouldn't keep losing the ball, overstretching and getting needlessly injured trying to win the ball back.

For me, he should be running the game, putting in 'man of the match' performances on a regular basis, he should be the fulcrum of the team, the sort of player we should be building the team around.

I like the guy, want him to succeed, and hope he pulls his socks up and had a great season.

I have a feeling he will be the most talked about player on this site this season, I'm just hoping its for the right reasons.

Barcelona or West Ham! This season will give us a very big clue which way jacks heading

I have been lurking on this site since the beginning when football rumours branched out the individual teams.

Firstly a big thanks to the Ed's who make the site what it is and their knowledge and patience.

My first post unfortunately will be a controversial one.

I was watching the Invincibles documentary and it brought back some great memories, but shows the fall from grace that we have had since then. Mostly due to our top players going for a quick increase in salary/immediate titles (bought through money rather than hard work and determination).

However I believe we are very close to the success of previous years. There are two main areas that we need to strengthen and we will compete, not only with the Chelski's and Man s**ty's, but with everyone in Europe.

We need a new DMF and a striker.

I'm going to be very frank, with the talk of Wilshere becoming our DMF, I believe we will struggle in the premier league this season. We have majorly strengthened our squad with recent signings, but Jack isn't made for that role and was cause the team to lose games through cards/suspensions. I have actually been unimpressed with Jack for the past few seasons. He shows signs of world class talent, then gives the ball away to the opposition, or makes clumsy challenges or aggressive challenges that show his lack of composure and ability to handle pressure. When he burst onto the scene, I truly thought we had a star footballer that would be the best in the world one day. So where do I see him fitting in? I believe he should be competition for Ozil, and giving Ozil a rest when needed.

Up front we need a world class finisher. I am a big fan of Giroud and everything he brings to the team, but he is not the world class player to lead this team to glory. If you were to look around the league, where would you see Giroud fitting in at United, Chelsea, City? I don't think he would get a look in at any of those clubs. And across Europe at Barca, Real, Bayern, PSG, Juve. could you see him starting above any of their current strikers? His goal scoring record last season was good, but he also missed a lot of chances that a world class striker would have put away.

The reason I have been so critical is because it frustrates me when people (myself included) obsess over potential signings (Khedira to name one) then when it looks like it won't come to fruition, list reasons why we are glad that we never signed said player. Then name current members of the squad who could do the role anyway.

We get so worked up about great players being linked is because we know we are SO close to major success. It only takes a few new faces to come into the club for the dream of a world class Arsenal team to actually become a reality.

With a true DMF and a world class striker, I firmly believe that we will not only win the premier league, but at a canter. We could also do some major damage in the champions league, if not go on to win that too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Welcome aboard, buddy.}

In my opinion not controversial at all. Totally agree on the wilshere thing. defo not suited for a DM role for a whole plethora of reasons. And while I like giroud as well, he's also not good enough to be our main man (though a DM is needed more). Maybe the part I disagree with is the win it at a canter part and the champ league part :p you're underestimating the opposition.

Welcome Goth,

Good post matey.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 21:37:32
The reason I deemed it controversial is because Wilshere is a "proper gooner". Someone who has came through that you really want to be a world beater. It would be easier to criticise a foreign player than one of our own.

In terms of at a canter, I firmly believe that. The opposition is good, but we were the team to beat for a good part of last season. With the signing of Sanchez only makes us stronger. Add two more world class players and we'll be unplayable. The beauty of arsenal is that we have nurtured our talent for a long time. So the whole squad plays as one. We might not have the depth of city, but we're not a team of individuals.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 20:09:20
I might cry.

Xavi goes onto say “We all admired Arsenal Messi, Fabregas, Iniesta and even YAYA when he was there, we admired the way Arsenal played the manager the spirit and everything about the club”

When asked about Messi rumours he said “Of course it is true, where else could you go and play beautiful football like at Barcelona? Arsenal of course, they remind us of ourselves”

If only Barca never existed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oh well the least they can do is give us Inesta as compensation.
Messi in an Arsenal shirt would put the club under another financial period of constraint, as We'd need an even bigger stadium :-)
200,000 plus should do it

I can't help but feel excited about this new Wilshere's role. Despite all the downhill in his career this is the season he can remind us what he can do. He came back early remember and I'm sure he knows what he has to do as well. If he doesn't have determination now he won't have it ever.

We still need to sign a midfielder though but that doesn't mean Jack will be out of the picture completely. At the moment he's my first choice to partner Ramsey. A new signing could relegate him to bench but not without a fight from Jack!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A lot of players have a big breakthrough season aged around 23. Fabregas 2009–10, Nasri 2010–11, Ramsey 2013-14, Wilshere 2014-15?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would,nt bank on it poly, but it would be nice if he did mate..

Its a bit of a double edged sword for me, JW playing deeper.

Will be great for when we are in possession and going forward but we will still be lacking the defensive steel we need and have needed in there for years.

Deffo a positive move him going back for extra training.

Fingers crossed he's starting to wise up and become the professional star we all want him to be.

Potential is nothing until it is fulfilled ED, you should know that. You won't pay 30,000,000 for a player and sit and hope, I would say as he stand at the moment 15-20 mill tops, he doesn't give much to a game, goals included, appearance's are limited .

Once he does it regular like Mr Lampard or Gerrard, then he will stay the nearly man

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gnarby or Jack?
Joel Campbell or Jack?

Whether your a Jack fanatic or like myself loosing Patience with him try to put your feelings to one side and be as honest as possible when answering this question.
How much would you value him at on today's market?
I know two years ago he was valued at £30,000,000 but how much now!
I 'd say we'd be lucky to get 15 million and probably closer to 12 million

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - 12/15? Are you mad sir? Lallana cost £25m and he's 26, Wilshere is 22 and has way more potential and has already done it on the bigger stage. Last season was average overall, putting form and injuries together. Season before that he returned from his 14 month lay off, and was our best player. Season before injury, ask Xavi and Iniesta if he was any good

Football Ed like time stands still for no man and who would pay 20 million for Jack right now?
Personally I think lallana is well over valued at 25 mil but out of him and Jack I know which one I'd bet on to have the best 2014/15 season, I hope I'm wrong of course I do but just don't expect Jack to hack it as a very top player

Agree0 Disagree0

It goes to show the sliding scale on the prices when a players hot and when a players not.

You only have to look at Ballotelli (similar age) and the money he's moved around for compared to what Milans allegedly looking for him now.

My guess is your on the money g62 roughly between 12 and 15 million and if anyone offered more, Arsenal would probably be willing to talk.

Big season for his future this one for jack

For the record, if Wilshire was out injured for 12 months we would not miss him, a bit similar to Diaby. We have an abundance of midfielders who can do Jacks job, Theos, Ox's, Ozil's I'm not too sure.

Whenever I hear he is injured I am never that concerned

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree 100% if Jack was all injured last season would we have ended up with less points?
Yes his goal against Norwich was special but I think We'd have beaten them without Jack.

Began this post as a reply but it got very big so I've decided to post it stand alone.

ON JACK WILSHERE
There has been a lot of comments and I think everyone is right on some level or another.

Here's my thoughts:
Ultimately this kid has talent with the potential to be World Class.

His best season was his break through season at ~18 he hasn't reached those heights since.

In that time however he spent over 1 year out of action. At this point that means that 1/3 of his senior career or so was spent on the treatment table. IMO he's had the ~2 seasons that I would consider the time required to regain his best form.

Form being the operative word. This year I believe is the year wherein he needs to get back to HIS best.

Yes he is only 22 and has plenty of time still to develop but this is the year where he needs to get back to 18y/o Jack.

From there he can improve further but it's not an unreasonable expectation for him to get back to the level he performed at consistently against top competition.

It took Ramsay 2 bad years and in his third we all know what happened, however Ramsay skipped regaining his prior level and jumped streets beyond what he had been displaying before his injury.
That's an unreasonable expectation of anybody let alone Jack.

Then comes the off field antics.

1) I honestly think that the majority of players at that age are doing the same thing. He's just been caught. Why is he always being caught? Because he's English and under greater scrutiny than many other players.

2) It's the very exceptional person that hasn't done it at that age. I imagine Ronaldo being one. Messi apparently got up to all sorts with Ronaldinho until Pep had a word with him, in which he basically said Ronaldinho will only be the best player in the world for another 2 years and that'll be it because of the way he carries on, and that he (Messi) could be the best for a decade.

3) Is he an person for smoking? Yes, it has no place in the professional game and I'd rather have seen him smoking dope because there's a reason to take psycho active substances. Does it mean he's smoking all the time? Not necessarily.
We all no people who are just social smokers. Or only smoke with a drink. However if it carries on indefinitely it's likely to get worse.

4) The drinking. He was on holidays, he's allowed a big blow out so long as he sweats it out with proper training in the pre season I've no problem with it. And so long it's not leading up to a match.

My final point then is JackGooners comparisons to Pirlo/Modric etc.
Yes 22 is plenty time to develop how long was it before Iniesta broke into the Barca team?
But I don't expect him to be as good as those players at they're peak next season and no one should. Or even find his peak for that matter.

But I expect him to reach the level that he has shown before.

And more importantly he should expect that of himself. If he does he'll realize that the antics will have to change. If he doesn't he'll slide further over the years until he either has no other option or it's too late.

I know what I'm hoping for

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I see our British young players in this order
Ramsey
Ox
Theo
Gibbs
Jack
Two years ago it would be totally reversed.
Leaving twitter and Facebook alone would be an excellent place to start what will be his most important season of his career, but I doubt he will because Jack doesn't truely believe what the rest of the world knows, its make or break time.

Ed25, I know you're pretty tough on Wilshere so I would love to hear your opinion on the matter.

I will be gutted if we do not sign a strong starting caliber CDM. I think Wilshere is a great talent but I completely disagree with Wenger, I do not think his future is as a CDM.

Jacks best asset is powering forward and dribbling with the ball at his feet, I think he is a box to box midfielder, very similar to Rambo. Unfortunately for him, Rambo is in a different class atm so Jack won't get many games in his position. If Wenger plays Jack at CDM I think its simply because he can't get in the team anywhere else and not because its his best position. He isn't disciplined enough and I don't really see a point playing Jack unless you let him get forward as he is pretty good when he joins the attack (see last years wonder goal)

In big games we will get dominated in the midfield with Jack as a CDM, I cannot see him being disciplined enough and I don't blame him. Its like telling Rambo to be simply a CDM, I bet he would be extremely good at it as Rambo is very good at defending. But, what would be the point? You then lose Rambos ability going forward and he's wasted as a CDM, I feel the same about Jack.

Basically, buy a strong powerful CDM Wenger!

{Ed025's Note - i dont think i have been tough on him jonny, i just think he needs to step up to the plate, he is a great talent, but over the past season and a half i dont think he merits a place in the side, he just does not do enough for me, when you see the likes of rambo busting a gut week in week out, and then jack being anonymous a lot of the time with the odd cameo 5 minutes of class, it makes me wonder if his heart is really in it anymore...but maybe thats just me mate..

25 Jul 2014 16:20:19
I got to say it, I'm sorry.

I'm going to ride side-saddle with Ed on this one.

Sorry Ed, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed25, I completely agree. Sorry for saying you were tough on him, didn't mean it like that. Meant you gave your opinion on the matter.

Do you really think he will reach his potential at CDM though ever?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i might sound cynical jonny, but i just cant see it mate, his physical presence is hardly going to frighten anybody, and i see him as a luxury player rather than a box to box midfielder, but maybe i will be proved wrong...there is a first time for everything they say.. :)

25 Jul 2014 15:05:39
I know we have been interested in signing arg right back back (peruzzi?) with jenko them going out on loan, I don't know much about peruzzi, does anyone know how much it would take to sign him approx. a reply would be greatly appreciated

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't see the point of this. The only point of letting Jenkinson go out on loan in my opinion would be to free up a squad space - for this his replacement would have to be u21.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 16:19:55
I really, really rate Peruzzi.
He only moved to Catania last season, so I can't see him being that cheap.

From what I saw of him last season (I love Serie A, when I was a kid, the likes of AC and Inter Milan and Juve were on top of the world and I loved watching them, so that's why I'm still a Serie a fan, even if it's not so great nowadays) he's fairly consistent, he's quite tall for a fullback, around 6ft and he's fairly quick too.
He played about 20 of Catania's game and grabbed a goal too!

However, back when he was a bit younger, like 20 maybe, his velez team played santos in a tie and he told reporters something like 'if he tries those tricks with me, I'll break him in two at half time!'
And you have to remember this was a basically unknown 19 year old against supposed santos world class star Neymar!

And he basically destroyed Neymar, made him look a complete amateur.

He has all the talent to become a world class star and Wenger should act on his instincts over this lad, before barca or Madrid do and come take him.

Ed,
Do you see Arsenal following up their interest in Carvalho, or was the "enquiry" nothing more than that? The more I read and see of the young bloke, the more I see him as perfect for the Gunners. Right age, right skill set, and plays the defensive midfield role exactly how we need it played.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - I'm sure they will follow up if the Khedira deal is completely dead

25 Jul 2014 12:15:41
Hi eds. Just wanted to know if sanogo should be named in the 25 man squad? Bit confused about the under 21 rule. His bday in on jan 27. Thanks in advance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - he dosen't have to be named in the squad this season, expect him to be loaned out anyway

25 Jul 2014 11:33:57
Eds question for you. If Wengers comments about Mert, Podolski and Ozil having time off at the beginning of the season are to be believed.
Can you please tell me where that descision has come from and why? I am completely baffled if that is true.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - it's normal, he did it with Cesc and Rvp in 2010, he likes to give all players a 4 week break after a tournament. They'll miss the shield game, and may not be fully fit for Palace, will be fine after that

25 Jul 2014 15:29:38
It's a fifa requirement to give them 4wks off.

WC ended on Jul 13, (bearing in mind that the club probably wouldn't have officially released the players until a few days after with the parades etc.) season starts on Aug 16 so they won't have trained before the Palace game.

We'll prob see them feature the following week @ Everton because we have City and Spurs afterward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sensible as well, not sure how fit Ox or Theo are but we should cope

I am sure you just want this Spursman thing to die a death after ed 007 got shaken and stirred and Chimney sweep obviously got stuck in it:) but I have to say I thought it was a wind up but from a Spurs fan and was laughing how much response it got especially as the Spursman got even more stupid with his comments.

Fairplay to you mate you do brighten this place up then may I add spoil it by telling jokes:).

I saw in a pic you posted a while back that you holidayed in Malta, I have lived here for 4 years so if ever you pop back over maybe we can go and have a CISK whilst watching our beloved Arsenal.

Dag pastizzi your all time favourite best 40 cents spent after a CISK for sure.

Sagalout I know live up in St Pauls bay but work down st julians/paceville or partyville if you wish. They are spending a lot of money in Valetta now mate.

I personally am a huge fan of Wilshere both on, and too an extent, off the field. I feel that many people are extremely overly critical of Jack and I do not understand why many people consider this season to be "make or break" for him.

A few things to consider:

1.) Many Great midfielders were nobodies at 22, Pirlo was still on loan at Brescia!

2.) Wilshere seems to be judged on the grounds of how long he's been around rather than how old he is. Adam Lallana who was hailed prior to the world cup as a possible england saviour was in League one at 22!

3.) And lastly, Modric who is in my opinion the best player currently playing the "Wilshere role" in world football, was still at Spurs at 22!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2014 14:13:21
The criticism stems from a numbrr of things.
1 the fact he has not improved as a player since he was seventeen - he has infact regressed and got worse
2 his stinking off the field antics. let's just put this into perspective - the guy has been arrested twice - once for an affray where a woman broke her arm. The guy is an person whether you think he's a good player or not
3 then there are the 'injuries' you know, the 2 month lay offs that take a year to recover from. let's put it this way its not his running style that keeps him out as I've read on several occasions on this site, rather his personal life style
4 the guy had rotten fitness all last year infact he looked overweight. Then in off season he's caught smoking - now, don't give me the old 'it was only one' because its never only one as anyone whose smokedwill testify to. If he smokes in a jacuzzi he smokes at home
now I can tolerate smoking if he plays like zidane or pirlo but he doesn't

frankly I think wenger should be giving jack the ultimatum he either sorts his life out or he's off next summer.

and the form he's been in I don't think would even get him in to west hams team

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^^ spot on ^^^^

At times he is a silly little boy

Agree0 Disagree0

He deserves most of the flak he's getting in my opinion.
Let's see him do what Ramsey did, put his head down and get on with it, and once he's done that let his football do the talking.

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^^^ Again agree^^^

Ramsey is a classic example of how you can become a hot property, the transformation he has shown is superb

Agree0 Disagree0

^^100% agree. not to mention the sitting down, arms on hips complaining at the ref after a challenge on him. he was touted the next big thing - future captain of the club. can't see it happening unless he gets his thumb out of his you-no-whatsit, and starts growing up. he has so much potential and i'd hate to see it go to waste

A taxi passenger taps the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question. The driver screams, loses control of the car, nearly hits a bus, goes up on the footpath, and stops centimeters from a shop window. For a second, everything goes quiet in the cab, then the driver says, "Look mate, don't ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me!" The passenger apologizes and says, "I didn't realize that a little tap would scare you so much.” The driver replies, "Sorry, it's not really your fault. Today is my first day as a cab driver. I've been driving a funeral van for the last 25 years."

Needs to sort himself out, he is miles down the pecking order

Agree0 Disagree0

I know what you're saying but, currently he doesn't get in the team on merit.

Fact is, all the love for Arsenal gets you so far.

When you wazz away your talent by drinking and smoking as he has in recent years, then he will follow Gazzas footsteps of unforfilled potential.

We all hope he comes good and 'does a Ramsey' this season.

The proof will come by May.

Indeed Greeny, just look at how many games he has played per season and his goals return, not great for such a 'talented' player

Morning Gooners.

Liverpool fan in peace here.

Seen rumours this morning of possible re interest in Pepe Reina. Just wanted your thoughts on wether you think this would be good business?

IMO i'd be glad for Liverpool to get rid of him, which may seem strange as he's probably still a better all round keeper than Mignolet, but his wages are too high for a back up keeper but Rodgers clearly doesn't fancy Reina.

So my question is IF he came to you guys, would you see him actually being ahead of Szczesny?

Thanks Guys.

Dagenham Gooner,

As your post re GOLDBOY and people having a pop was aimed at me I felt should reply.

Length of time posting or supporting Arsenal doesn't give anyone cudos or points above another. We all support Arsenal and have differing opinions on our club, players, managers and anything else football related we care to talk about.

You and other new posters along with the old have made this page a breath of fresh air, that along with ed025 in particular, but all the other eds and the improvements on the page itself.

I have been aware of particular posters and there comments, I read this page everyday.

Prior to your arrival and since, there have been posters by the name of FIBBY, EDDIE5555, GOLDBOY and a one off poster GOODOLDARSENAL who along with EDDIE5555 came to Goldboy's aid on a previous occasion when people questioned him for having another whine about Jack. I'm a million miles from stupid.

That aside everyone can think or say what they like, GOLDBOY has got the hump when people have not agreed with his opinion then accused them, stating its BANTER mate when clearly it wasn't.

Further he whined, on the World Cup page, that it was UNBELIEVABLE that fellow Arsenal fans didn't share his opinion of Jack.

So he brings it upon himself mate, I don't doubt he's a gooner but seriously, we all know Jack needs to up his game, I have faith in him but at the same time it's abundantly clear to see that as it stands, we buy the likes of Carvalho, Bender or Khedira then the three behind Sanchez, Giroud and Walcott will consist of Ozil, Ramsey and one of Carvalho, Bender or Khedira. Simple as. Even a fit and firing Diaby would keep him out of the team. He needs to knuckle down get his act together and come back as the player I know he can be.

So, you know that, I know that, we all know that and GOLDBOY sure as hell knows that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Solid post Stoner. You look like a younger and happier version of Brian Moore

I'm glad our German players are being given a good break and if they miss one or two games at the start it will pay dividends over the season.
Its a mental break they need every bit as much if not more than a physical one, all work and no play makes Mesut a spurs player, but fully rested and confidence at 100% he wil have us all saying Cesc who?
Remember when he came to us and how excited we were? prepare to be rewarded this season people he's going to be class on grass again

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fair comment G62, they deserve the time off, tournament play for the 'BIG BOYS' is physically and mentally draining , rush them back and we could pay for it later .

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed001 did you ever imagine this site when you started it turning the way it did? I mean I remember years ago it was simply just rumours. Now especially the arsenal page it's so much more. It's just like a bunch of gooner friends who have never even met who talk about their beloved club and share opinions every day of the week.
I must say this has become my favourite site! And no I'm not drunk before anyone implies lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - never mate. When I first started it, I just thought it would be a bit of fun. I never thought it would end up with 70+ sites! It has certainly been an eye opening journey to get here. Wasn't so long ago the Arsenal site was among the gloomiest and most miserable site we had, so good to see it cheerful. Though my throat does get sore occasionally from groaning at some of Dags's 'jokes'.}

Great post D I was thinking the same thing a few days ago about if 001 ever dreamed it would turn out so well.
Our page to me is spot on, we debate we moan and celebrate and have a great laugh together with each other and of course all the Ed's who give up their time to make it happen in the first place.
My only question is what did we all do before we found this site?
Its hard to remember now :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - before I started this site I used to have something called a life. I can't even remember what it was now, but I seem to remember it being fun.....}

25 Jul 2014 10:08:28
lol I used to just look at the arsenal page for rumours but now it's a laugh and fun so I do like to get involved more. Must be the relief of a trophy. Really though thanks for the site it's great to have convos and debates about our clubs!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, I am glad it worked out so well. When it was first started it was just because I was fed up reading the crap in newspapers and just wanted somewhere to put people straight. I can remember sitting down having a long chat with someone who was managing a Prem club at the time, I won't say who but it was Ed025's club and he is a lovely chap who likes a tipple, anyway, even back then before this site came along he was moaning about the rubbish in the papers. I never foresaw how bad it would get when social media exploded and became full of people making up even more lies though! I might not have bothered with doing the sites if I had known just how hard work they would make it.}

25 Jul 2014 11:58:07

We are reportedly after Casillas & are prepared to pay him £1.4m per annum. The wages seem low for a top keeper? Would it be a good signing as I can't see him playing second fiddle to Szczesny?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it would be great. Sczezny needs to keep his head out the clouds and having a top keeper like casillas would do that. Would make sczezny a better keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

The wages are low for a TOP keeper, sadly Casillas is a short, psychologically shot, average keeper that no longer fits that category. Waste of money, rather have someone a bit taller than a marmoset between the sticks.
