No. I'd much rather have rooney and Higuain
Agree0

Absolutely!
Agree0

I'd take that. I reckon Torres will find his feet again at his next club.
Agree0
Disagree0
Would have taken him from the pool, but not sure what they have done to him at Chelsea to ruin him but long may it continue. On his day was unplayable though and under right management may come good again (mourinho possibly) do not see arsene as the man to bring best out in him
Agree0

Will torres come with a GPS, so he can find the opposing goal?

If anyone was available from Chelsea I would want to take Lukaku.
Beast and him and Higuain as striker options with Giroud and Podolski.
Every man can dream.
J
Agree0

I would take torres because rooney would most likely join chelsea over us.
Agree0

Torres was top class at Pool under Benitez, has failed at the Ski's since even when Benitez there last season not much bettter so is he now just going through the motions and drawing the big bucks, as we know with Arshavin, if we want world class we need someone who wants to put in 100%

So Tevez is going to Juventus:
PROS - Juventus will not be looking at Higuain anymore as they have a) now got a good striker and b) have parted with £10m. So that makes Higuain to Arsenal seem likely.
CONS - City are now a man down up front, so they will be looking for good strikers who are available; oh yeah, that sounds like Higuain too me as well, and it is impossible as City looked to sign him last time around.
On the whole, whilst most think Tevez to Juventus helps the situation, I fear that it might do the opoosite and put us in a bad situation.
Believable0
Unbelievable0
The only hole in your theory is that City has known about Tevez leaving for months, and will have known about Higuain for weeks. I'm nervous but think without a sniff of media speculation we should be safe. Maybe tomorrow with any luck.
Agree0
Disagree0
If City hasn't been linked with him now, one might think they've been aiming for a bid for Cavani or even Lewandowski
Agree0
Disagree0
To be honest I have to disagree, if Manchester city are now going for the holistic approach and we saw pellegrini at Malaga promote youth into the first team, I wouldn't be surprised for the first few months to see john guidetti filling that vacant strikers position, so really I don't see city being our rivals for higuains signature, I could be wrong but it's just my opinion
Fishman
Agree0
Disagree0
Spot on!
Agree0

But will Pellegrini feel youth is the way to retake the Premier League? I'm just a bit worried that they will swoop, but TheMessenger has made a good point in Lewandowski, and fingers crossed that that's where city look for a replacement.

Not posted in a while. All this Higaun talk is really exciting, I personally think he is a quality striker, given regular football at Arsenal he will become world class. His technique and finishing are superb. He is that striker who will score in big games that we are missing.
Regarding other positions, we should continue to get rid of dead weight first.
Gervinhio out - Dimitri Payet In
Diaby out - Lars Bender In
Djourou out - Kurt Zouma In
Fabianski out - Cesar In
That's all fairly do able. I really believe Bender will be another top player given more football at the top level.
Also hope we keep Sagna, Vermaelen and Rosicky

I'm getting edgy about the Higuain talk, can't help but think it's all a smokescreen and we'll end up with someone nowhere near as good as what we need. Hope I'm wrong.
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Not be trying to be an arse, but why smokescreen for a lesser, presumably less in demand striker?
ok, unless your guess is that it's all publicity to appease us fans?
I don't believe so, not this window- 1) because I genuinely believe the club has turned a corner financially and 2) the backlash would be immense this time, I honestly don't think they would risk it.
Agree0

The dreaded smokescreen! How do clubs ever get around to making actual transfers with them working so hard on these smokescreens.
I'm beginning to think life is one big smokescreen for death. Deep man.

Whats peoples thoughts on who will be captain next year for Arsenal?
I can see the captaincy being given to Arteta over the summer, and TV being made vice (if he stays, which I think he will do).
Any other alternatives?
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Jack, or too young? Perhaps a bit too soon for him, give him the freedom to develop, etc. But one for the future.
I think you've highlighted something that's bothered me for a while.
tbh, beyond arteta, I can't think of anyone else suitable- which actually speaks volumes about certain aspects/attributes of our current squad.
Kos, Walcott, sagna, mertz, ramsey, etc, etc?
Not a chance- if you think back to adams, Vieira and other 'non-captain' leaders we once had within our squad.
I hope we will see more leadership added to our squad.
LG
Agree0
Disagree0
I agree with LG in that Jack is our only captain "character" in the squad but it is too soon to give him the armband.
Although how many games are we expecting Arteta to play? Not sure.
Bring back Cesc - give him the armband.
Job done!
Agree0
Disagree0
Interesting point, have just run through squad and Jack is only born leader in squad and as you say far too much pressure at this stage of his career, this is bit disturbing and surely should have been addressed sooner even recent deserting captains have not been true leaders and in reality should have a leader in every position on the pitch. Not sure if its because he is true fan and it's his heart that drives him or more likely all others in not just our team but league, just a bunch of overpaid pansies who don't want to get their hands dirty
Agree0
Disagree0
I think Ramsey will become a leader soon enough, was Wales captain under Gary speed.
Not sure if he will be captain for us, but a good leader none the less.
I think changing captain will be bad for verms confidence. If he plays, keep him as captain. If not. Give it to arteta

The interesting thing now will be where the Fiorentina striker will go. He is a versatile player. They will not want their old enemy juventus to buy him. they have never forgiven them for taking Robberto Baggio away. Juventus and arsenal were the two teams he was linked with. Think we need 3 new players for the team and 2/3ore for the squad taking into account the two German kids need a chance. We are letting a few go. You can't go out and buy 5 for the starting 11. Two outfield and a keeper. The squad needs a back up c. B. Give Segna the two year contract he wants km

Tony adams is indeed a legend, however his comments lately have left a bitter taste especially as we are trying to attract big name players to the club, I dread to think if he was appointed as chairman to the board he would sanction a team full of defenders, his negative approach in the last few days has me shaking my head in disbelief I want to remember him as a legend not a LEG END

A few stupid rumours if I may dismiss. We are in for a 18 year old left back. to go with the 3 we already have. If you think Santos is a left back. And Rooney going to Barca. yeah right, hello. they have just signed Naymar. I think these persons who are so called Journalists, should be a little bit more realistic with their fabrication. And while I'm on the subject. where will he play if we buy Higuain. I think it's going to be difficult finding a place for Carzola, Jack and Artera if we buy a defensive midfielder. To accommodate these players we need to play 5 in midfield with Higuain up front on his own. Carzola on left, Arteta and defen mid in the middle, Walcott on right with jack behind Higuain. A nice problem to have, but I would rather 4-4-2. km

I don't care who we sign this window as long as the signings are ambitious.
When we signed Rosicky, he was one of the most sought-after players in Europe. When we signed Arshavin he was the hottest thing going. Since then our signings have been not even half as ambitious in any way - not saying they haven't been good, but they have rarely been ambitious, and our reputation has suffered hugely because of it.
So I don't care who we get, just make the signings ambitious and make them whilst taking into consideration how much our opponents will strengthen!

Well now that malaga has been suspended from european competition, it shows that they are taking it seriously.
remember that there is an independent panel which evaluates the financial records, and also aligns over priced deals to market value.
it starts of with fines and restrictions, but eventually they will have to comply.
however man city have gone one up. they have bought a club in NYC, they will transfer players at high transfer fees to that club and then make an overseas transfer for half the price if need be, even send players they don't need in EPL over there, and all it creates is a wonderful new loophole.

Of course I am excited with all the Higuain rumours, but I will not count the chickens before they have hatched. As soon as the season ended, we were very much linked with Jovetic, then that interest seems to have cooled off. then came Fellaini, cooled off for a while and resurfaced again. Higuain saga seems to be taking forever, would be gutted if we lost out on him. Rooney was hot for a while, cooled off and re-surfaced again.
I know that's the way with rumours, but with Arsene Wenger not saying anything, we cannot know for sure. So far, there is no reason for us to believe that anything is different from last season. I know Arsene will spend money, but I just hope he doesn't leave it too late when all the exciting and talented players have been snapped up, leaving us with no choice but to go to the Discount Isle once again
Great job with the page Eds, I log on every ten minutes hoping to see news of some miracle signing.
PS I really hope someone other than Higuain's dad (no offence) would say something concerning Gonzalo's transfer. It's been 38 days since it was said ". the Gonzalo higuain Arsenal move is almost done. "

Just throwing my hat into the ring on the higuian situation,
Is anyone else not worried that although everyone is pretty sure we have the financial muscle over juve that they could
Still scupper the deal by not buying him?
Juve are apparently now pursuing tevez, tevez leaves city for juve and with dzeko's future undecided it leaves them with only aguero up top. A club like city will not only have 1 star striker on their books, with the likes of cavani and Suarez wanting to go to Madrid there aren't many top class
Strikers available for them to get.
We all know they could blow us out the water financially if they decided to go for him!
Im not being pessimistic but it's a thought

What happnd to gonalons of lyon?
Please rply
Believable0
Unbelievable0
The situation with Gonalons, from what I have heard reading about, is that this year Lyon do not want to sell their players. He is their captain I think (?) and they would rather sell other players than sell him. Grenier has broken through this season, meaning Gourcuff is 100% available, and they're trying to tie Grenier down to a new deal and keep for one more season before selling him for probably double what they'd currently get, but next summer.
They're also shifting their striker Gomis on, and Swansea are keen.
If they sell Gourcuff, Gomis and their riff raff then they weill not be pressured financially into selling anyone else and I think this is why they are being stubborn over Gonalons, who I previously thought was a dead cert. Lyon need to make £25m available for debts though.
Agree0

Gonalons will not come. Arsene will instead buy Steven Segal to play DMF and Jean cleade Van Damme as centreback. Now with those two, we are guaranteed that noone will even attempt to get into our penalty box

Think they need money from deal to buy a striker. Isco is at at an advanced stage according to marca. Suprised they can buy two big players. None of us know the fine details, some pretend to. Think the amount of money we are putting upfront might be the key. Higuians dad/ agent used to play football in France in the latter part if his career. maybe him and Arsene speaking same same lingo could be a good thing. let's not kid ourselfs, he is leaving the biggest club in the world so he can play football, and not rotate with other forwards. km

As long as higuain and other quality players sign for us, I really don't care how long it takes tbh- its only some fans impatience/anxiety - although its understandable given some of our track record in deals, but we have to trust they are working on bringing players to our club.
We can only sit and wait, which is the hard part ofc!

Believable0

More likely Lars Bender. Gundogan is not really a CDM, but rather a CM which is more like a box to box kind of player. I think we need someone who is more devoted to breaking up opposition play and a good tackler. I think it would be a waste of his talent if we got Gundogan to play in that position. Don't get me wrong, I personally would buy him to play CM but not CDM

It would only be a good deal if he could be bought for under 10mil and if he came in and was able to adapt straight away, injury problems aside, he would be great for right back and cb positions, I wouldn't like it if he was brought in and given the rb spot because jenks has made massive strides, he is not at the brilliant consistant level that sagna had at his pomp but can definitely get there. I think best for all if we can tie sagna down on another contract, financially and it would cause the least bother if i'm honest.

Marouane Fellaini is not worth 100k a week. Pass him over Arsene. I would rather pay that to Lars Bender who is way better than Fellaini
Agree0

The issue with the wages I think you will find is down to his agent rather than player. Although if a club is willing to meet the 23million buy out clause then that player will surely be after 100k a week wages. This is football now and when you look around at what some players are earning you can see why he/his agent wants a bumper contract. I think he is worth every penny in my opinion and him and Ramsey as 2 deep laying cm would protect our back line and make the opposition play higher up therefore really hitting them on the break

Paper talk mate. Depends on if he wants to come to us, or who else wants him. Another one who might like the Russian or Chinese money but look at Drogba, Anelka and Hulk. Money only goes so far. If Moyes hasn't moved yet he might not want him. I think utd need a more creative player to fill scholes boots. Arteta took a wage drop to sign for us but got 4 years not the 3 he was looking for. fellani must be looking at 85 k. km

If Theo is on 100k then I think Fellani is worth that amount too. he gets goals, will add steel and ALL of us have been complaining about a lack of a DM. He knows the prem and has proven his worth for the last few seasons.
Surely we can afford 100k p/w on 2 players now Arshavin, Denilson, Squillaci are all gone. ?
Agree0

I think it all depends where fellani will play. he has been used that offensively last season and he can score, but he switches off defensively, he might say dmf is his best position but I don't think he is the same as song. he will want to get up and score, leaving us vulnerable.
a great player, but he defeats the purpose, if he would be bought to do what he did at everton last season then yes. but not defensive enough. Bender instead please

Gervinho is getting interest from a lot of clubs. He is seen as a decent player who could do a really good job, but having flopped at AFC rather than 'being crap'. Galatasaray, Fernebahce, Lille and a bunch of other teams have shown interest and it's likely that he will leave.

If we sell Djourou, and assuming our defenders play to ability it's fair to say either per mer or tv5 will partner Kos, could I say rather than spend 10M on Williams we should take a look at Caulker or Mancienne. Caulker could do a Campbell and cross over. Mancienne was a highly regarded youngster and hasn't disgraced himself abroad. I know of no interest in either and very doubt spurs agreeing to the sale of Caulker, however both these players are English, have good PL experience, both captained the U21's. these are players we should be considering. Just my opinion.
