Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

25 May 2017 21:50:06
So Wenger has come out and said something happened at the beginning of the year that affected our form, and that one day he will say what it was.

Any ideas what it was?

I'm sure ed002 said arsene nearly walked at the start. Intriguing to know why. Perhaps we'll find out one day.

Well whatever it was seems to happen every year aboit the same time " ground hog day"

Maybe he's referring to the Sanchez training ground bust up a few months ago?

My gut feeling is that at the beginning of the year pressure was put on Wenger by Gazidis and the board. I believe that there are two scenarios depending on tomorrows result. If we win the cup, Wenger will dictate his terms to the board from a strongish position. He will want to retain full control, with no director of football. He will also feel that the fans will have been placated by winning a trophy, which happened to a certain extent after our previous two FA cup wins. If we lose, I believe he will depart for PSG, who failed to win the French league with Monaco finishing 8 points above them and were knocked out of the CL despite taking a 4-0 lead into the second leg against Barca.

Arsene says and blames many things.
So far we've had the fans, the board, other teams being on holiday against our opponents, obviously the refs, injuries, fixtures.
Infact the only two things he hasn't pointed the finger at are himself and his team, which I think says everything.
After the Everton game he did come out and say that the whole drawn out saga over his future had affected the players which at the time I thought was Arsene taking some responsibility, but no it later transpired he was talking about the board making negotiations difficult by wanting to bring about change at the club which involved bringing in help.
Arsene certainly has his own unique little bubble where he is still invincible in his own opinion.

62 I stopped listening years ago to him. But I do feel on tv independently he would be good to listen too. Imo take the french job after a season at psg and semi retire.

{Ed002's Note - I think the issue at the start of the season certainly hit AW - and perhaps the uncertainty at the time when many at the club thought he would walk away somehow impacted the team. However, we are are where we are now and and the critical thing is to get back in to contention for next season.}

26 May 2017 11:55:27
Well said Ed002.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - And it was nothing to do with the board.}

We all definatly need to be pulling in the same direction, that's for sure.

Excellently put Ed, we are where we are. I'd be very surprised if arsene isn't going to be our manager next year. We just got to get behind him and the team. Everyone keeps saying how he mentioned the fans and the atmosphere didn't help the team but I've not seen many people mention that's probably right. He can be difficult at times and frustrate people but we must stand united and back the team and show support. The fans being a 12th man can really help. Not going to start turning into delia smith here lol.

Now I've been thinking that not been in the CL will shorten the list of potential players that will come, but in all fairness we never went for those players when we were in the CL.

{Ed002's Note - It may make some think again but most no.}

That's what I was thinking ed! Thanks for quick reply mate.

I agree Sanogo. How many times in recent years were we sweating to get into the top 4 so we could sign those big players, only to sign just Peter Cech etc. It might have made it easier to persuade Sanchez to stay if we had got back in the CL, but as we would have only just scraped in on the last day perhaps not. Players will still come if they believe this year is just a minor blip, and we still have ambition (its a big if at the moment though! ) .

Phil Neville: “They call him The Special One. I think he is now The Manchester United One”.

Really Phil? Is that what he is now?

Whose idea was it to give this potato a microphone?

Ah man that's part of his charm - you laugh at him. At least he doesn't take himself too seriously like Jamie Redknapp or the consistently dull Thierry Henry. Come to think of it there's a real lack of decent pundits out there.

"Potato a microphone".

Lol, made me chuckle.

I hope you been Henry dull as a pundit. He was far from dull as a player as Fabian bartez.

Magical as a player - as a pundit not so much.

Who are your (realistic) dream signings for the summer? Here are mine (I'm assuming Ozil and Sanchez will leave).

Lorenzo Insigne - direct replacement for Sanchez on the left wing.

Marcelo Brozovic - an all-round midfielder who I hope could fill in a multiple positions, primarily central midfielder.

Riyad Mahrez - a gamble considering the season he has had but I think we need to take some if we want to fight for the title. Right wing.

Sead Kolasinac - has he signed already? I want to stress out that Monreal for me has been an excellent servant for the club but if he or Gibbs do go which I think will be the case then we need a left back.

And then a striker but it's very hard for me to pick a favourite. I don't know who will be a realistic choice since their price is very high and the best want champions league. Perhaps a young striker with potential? I'd rather take that than just a decent striker on his peak (like Perez) . We may have to take another risk here.

Sanchez has another year on his contract, even if there is a huge bid, Arsenal would want to wait and convince him to sign another contract. The chances of him leaving is remote. He'll stay for another year, whether he signs an extension is doubtful. Same with ozil.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2017 10:39:00
Insigne recently signed a contract extension and i considering his personal ties to the club i don't think hell ever leave. Mahrez for me isn't good enough after one good season and one horrific one he hasn't proved himself enough i don't think.

Id say the main area we need to strengthen is upfront with a real top quality out and out number 9, whether that be someone like belotti, icardi, morata, aubameyang, mbappe or lukaku etc.

Cant see us running contracts down at all. They sign this summer or they go wesley.

Even if Arsene stays and Usmanov doesn't take control of the club we need to find a way of sending out a signal to the fans and potential signings Arsenal football club are back in the business of football ambition beyond the 4th place trophy.
To any good player looking to come to the premier league
Chelsea Spurs Liverpool City and Utd are all much more attractive options than joining a club who have a reputation of going through the motions year in year out.
No matter what happens this summer we have to set about changing our image and people's perceptions of Arsenal football club and what it's about.
Yes a new manager and owner would make that much easier but neither look likely so we have to work with what we have and start rebuilding the reputation of the club regards competitiveness and footballing ambition.

25 May 2017 22:11:49
yet wenger came out and said we only need one or two signings. If he thinks we can win anything with this bunch of players he is deluded. We need a minimum of a left back, a box to box midfielder, a winger and a striker. I am talking of minimum and that is assuming ozil and sanchez stay.

25 May 2017 06:21:24
It will be interesting to see whether Wenger continues to play Ospina in goal for the Cup Final, or picks on form Cech.

Defensively, I hope Mustafi and Gibbs recover in time to play, as I would like to see us continue with the 3 man defence, which may not be possible if we are short of defenders.

Finally, Wenger's recent comments lead me to believe that he will depart. Quite frankly his reluctance to state his intentions has been problematic to say the least. All is quite at PSG who failed to win their league and this is very telling in my opinion.

Hello Eds. don't know how true this is but evidently when Chile announced its team yesterday next to each players name they had their club badge. Next to Sanchez name was the Bayern badge. This was supposedly swiftly removed around an hour later. Is there anything you or anybody can add to this? .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is true that the initial squad listing had him down as a Bayern player, official word being it was just a mistake.}
