I think a hour workout is just what the team needed, aside from Per of course. The back four looked solid once again - and our full backs the stand-out players. Nacho was solid all game and Jenks very effective going forward. Pleased to see his willingness to take players on. Jenks looks to be physically the fittest player we have.

It was great to win the game and you can see that Arsene has not changed his philosophy much that the League Cup by giving the young players the added responsibility. We had 3 young players taking the penalties at the end which was especially pleasing to see.

I see the Chavs await us next. Bring it on!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Defense looked good. its like I do not fear the other teams attempts. feels strange. 11 months ago it was all over the shop defending and now, with the same personnel its different?

whoever is doing the job. kudos.

i though ryo was poor, gnabry tried a bit too much, and I was surprised bendtner lasted. he looks in bad shape.

no injuries so that's good new, and we have not used 8 players who will play sat.

Swansea lost today and that's because they didn't field a team that could destroy birmingham. they were thinking about sat and about us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey lakerville

ST nick just needs some games under his belt, he has acted the **** in the past but did he ever really get a chance at the club.

were going to need nb23 over the season, its all about confidence with a forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

True malaga. Saint Bendtner of the near post, needs to be on the bench to support giroud as a sub if ever needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

How could you say he didn't get any chance by the club?
Since 2007/2008 he has made 150 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, half of them were coming on as a substitute. He scored 43 goals and assisted 20.
He is a lazy ass person and I don't want to see him near the first team. Watching him play makes me sick. He is NOT Arsenal quality and will never be. IMO Akpom should have played a full game last night instead of the TGSTEL.

And congrats to the youngsters they deserved the win.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dnt worry mate Malaga says a lot of things that dnt make sense unless ure on some sort of psychedelic

So is that 11 straight away wins or not?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As we're down to play the Chavs at the Emirates in the next round all the evidence points to an 11th straight win.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think it counts as a draw on those stats. Not sure if pens victory means 11 straight away wins

well done the boys tonight, a good mix of experience and youth and some good performances out there.
won on pens but a win is a win the only drawback is we have chelsea in next round. oh well lol

So proud of the lads tonight, great to see he young lads standing up to the pressure of first team football and putting in a real performance! Only concern is that Per looks absolutely shattered after the 120 mins.

hi:)
watching the match, and as I am writing:) hells teeth, lil eisfeld has scored:) nice one!:)

got to say, our youngsters look like kids. ryo, eisfeld, the other lad was damn lucky not to get a red card, even serg gnabry doesn't look too strong at the mo. but, they are youngsters and need to start somewhere. getting knocked off the ball kind of easy, and looking at the ground too much:) watch each other and talk!:) stop passing back all the time! need to take lessons from our Rambo and Jackie:)

I think jenko has looked good, good positive running forward with the ball, trying to make stuff happen.

ewwww, jeez, now they have the equaliser:( damn.

and NB (52?), or what ever looks so slow!:( chewing his gum and jogging around.

anyway:) COYG! put some effort in:)

Not really Arsenal related but Freiburg (with Coquelin playing) just took the lead (1:0) against Stuttgart in the DFB Pokal (German League Cup).

Reference the talks of the thinness of our squad, numbers wise we're up there; I simply think it's a case of this:

If we had a Suarez or Similar and not Bendtner, Lars Bender and not Flamini and Hummels or similar instead of Sagna being our back up CB I don't think anyone would say we are thin.

I'm not having a downer on Flamini as he is doing himself and us proud it's just I think that this is what gives the appearance we're thin. Not numbers just that quality in those positions. Those are positions we also don't have, in enough quality, imminently coming through our youth ranks.

We really are not far off being proper title contenders and a match for City and Chelsea's squads.

A Kompany, Toure and Aguero are what we are missing for now.

Just my opinion and January and next summer we could have them.

Hope I am proved wrong but Ryo Miyaichi looks just as light-weight and ineffectual as when he arrived here 3 years ago. Walcott is pretty timid when forced to check back and help in defence, but looks like Mike Tyson in comparison with Ryo.
May be used at the Emirates as a sub when we are 3 goals up with 10 minutes left, but an away cup-tie against EPL opposition will find him a complete passenger.

With todays squad I hope we go like this: suspect we won't go as far as I have with youngsters to start but I'd like to see:

GK: Viviano
LB: Monreal
CB: TV5
CB: Jenkinson
RB: Bellerin
DM: Flamini (Captain)
DM: Arteta
RM: Gnabry
CM: Eisfeld
LW: Miyiachi
S: TGSTEL

Leaves us with Fab as back up - I really feel for him, he was ace at the back end of last season - with PM4 on the bench (never thought I'd see him "saved" ahead of TV5!) Issac Hayden, Akprom, Olsson, Iwobi and Park (who he? - surely not!) on the bench.

Suspect we might find it's a pretty good team defensively for the back seven, the forward four may be light on experience but I'm delighted to see (hopefully) Gnabry, Eisfeld and Miyiachi get a change.

And what with TGSTEL up front, I imagine Olson and McAuley are terrified.

1 - 2 tonight. Come on you Gooners!

I think, the way things have changed in our favour so far this season, that we will win tonight and Bendtner will score.

'Training tonight, 7pm'

Guess I'll be missing the game, unbelievably gutted.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thats you and giroud lol wenger is probably saving you for the weekend against swansea, good luck in wales metal

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha cheers mate - I've been keeping it a secret for ages but I have a confession -

I am Tomas Rosicky 7

Metal Gooner :D

Agree0 Disagree0

I was going to ask which one you were well that's cleared up. do you discuss with your team mates and mr wenger what is talked about on here. is that why you bought a marquee signing because of all the negativity on here. did you say "oy, arsen these guys are not happy now go out and buy someone" and hey presto ozil arrives and upsets all us spurs fans as we thought you hadnt got anyone then you turn the tables and buy the most prolific assister in the world. damn you rosiky7

So the Arsenal squad for today has no Sczesny, koser, ramsey, sagna, ozil, wilshere, gibbs, giroud.

key players we need for saturday at what will be a difficult fixture away at swansea.

looks like per and verm will start at the back with Nacho and Jenks on the wing, flamini and Arteta to hold the fort to make the back solid.

while Eisfeld, Gnabry and Ryo take to the middle with

TGSTEL to lead the line.

im glad we have rested the key players. the amount of injuries we have is just unimaginable at this moment in time.

Theo, Poldi, Cazorla, Ox. we are not lacking at the back, merely lacking on the sides. let's hope we can survive at swansea.

today will be difficult. i'm hoping they see the squad we put out and match us with similar type of players and not first team.

They play Manchester United away on saturday so I hope they rest the big boys for that game and enable us to have an even field. otherwise they will be bullying the likes of Ryo and gnabry. even eisfeld

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have finished 4th for years with NO silverware, why do you think we will suddenly win both domestic cups, just look at the strength of M City and Chelsea ' reserve' sides

Agree0 Disagree0

Is there something wrong with me that I knew immediately who TGSTEL is?

I did not even know he was match fit after the 2 season holiday he has been on. let's hope he proves most of us wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

No one has a divine right to win. everyone competes.

we cannot field our best players every game, and we can only hope that our form enables us to go through the hard times with injuries and come out the other side looking better.

we have been reinvigorated by the arrival of ozil, and that should be used to our advantage.

Yes chelsea and City have better squads compared to us, and United and spurs have more depth too, but when you take to the pitch it is 11 v 11.

i agree with wenger's selections and if we are in contention for some silverware by December, I can assure you wenger will buy a key player to reinvigorate us for the last few months, and perhaps win us a trophy.

nothing is guaranteed. its just pure faith and belief. its what every fan of every club thinks. this is football.

Agree0 Disagree0

TGSTEL = the greatest striker that ever lived?

Well said Lakerville Well said!

25 Sep 2013 12:06:06
I hope we risk very little tonight and give players who are short of match fitness and youngsters a go only.

For me even if we win this trophy it would mean little.

I would rather finish top two with no silverware this season than 4th with both FA and capital cups.

Just my view but a big improvement in our league position would do us far more good long term than any good cup runs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hope your joking

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to say I agree with you 62, for this season alone, considering we only added one star player to the squad and we're teetering on risking losing out to top 4 but simultaneously believing a top 3 finish could be possible but ONLY if our best players last the season, for once I won't care if we're out of all comps but the league. The risk of losing top 4 is very real and with our injury habits we will be lucky to reach top 4 whilst trying to win a cup or do well in the CL. We just don't have the squad when so many players are always injured!

Agree0 Disagree0

No WG I mean every word, its just my view but I want to be in with a shout at the tittle come May far more than I want to settle for anything just to we didn't go 9 years without a trophy.

If we want to keep our best players and attract those who could improve us our league finish will say more than any domestic cup, just ask Kenny Dalglish

Agree0 Disagree0

I would disagree with that too man, silverware brings a winning mentality needed to win the prem, I would like both though.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Sep 2013 11:59:12
Oh my word!

I've just seen the squad for tonight. I'm now feeling mixed emotions. This is the first game since Villa I've been worried about. I feel mixed because I really don't want us to lose this or any game, and with West Brom having a tough start to their season, after their weekend win they're going to look to do everything they can to make it two wins on the bounce, and they'll throw everything at us.

The flip side to that is I really think our first team can achieve top 3 this season, having seen how everything is going so far. But I think in order for us to do that, we may have to take a hit on the cup runs. So this season, having seen us spend big and the confidence I have in future windows and therefore future seasons, I don't mind if all we do this season is focus on a top 3 finish. If that means we have to rely on the kids in the cups in order to preserve the first team, then for this season, I would accept that.

So on one hand I know anything is possible and will be hoping for a win (and I do think it's definitely possible!) I do have reservations based on tonight's squad and so am slightly worried. But then if we lose it's not the end of the world. This season there is one important competition and that is the league!

I'm really hoping for big games from Eisfeld, Gnabry and Ryo. Can't wait to see who starts. I'd say the team picks itself but I never get it right and we all know you can't really predict Wenger!

Do you pick Chuba up front, who has fitness on his side but not the experience? Or do you pick one of two forwards who've barely kicked a ball for us? And Bendtner has had an operation, will he be able to play more than say half an hour?! It's so hard to call.

Either way, I will be right behind everyone, cannot WAIT for this game, matchdays is what being a gooner is all about :)

Now to kill the time between then and now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Spurs fan, I think with the football you are playing at present. the only thng that may hurt you (IS SPURS) only joking I think it is too early for us but your squad isn't big enough and its a shame as I could have seen you doing a double. will you still go for champs league or will you concentrate on the league. the league is wide open especially as you have more continuation than anyone else from the previous big four we may get a cup but watch out for us next year as lamela is going to be quite good. good luck tonight as I have a bet on you and so I am doubley gutted for you playing (sensibily) a weakened side and I think swansea may be a tough one aswell as they are buzzing at present

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you Metal taking a hit in the cups is worth it to finish higher in the league, I think we can be top two this season.

If the youngsters can go all the way I will be as ecstatic as they come but would hate to get yet more injuries in this cup with FT player's.

I want to dethrone utd not Swansea or Wigan and have city chel envy us not Norwich or Southampton, no disrespect to either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Derbyshire Dave

Totally agree with you about such a small squad but come November Ox, Walcott, Santi and Rosicky will be back .Ox, Santi and Ros all like new signings. but I do take your point

Agree0 Disagree0

Very wengeristic that they will be like new signings ha ha but yes I also take your point. as I say with a fit squad this is the best opportunity you have had for years we may be rivals now but it could become even more intense as things go forward, north london will be the new football capital of england. I hope. I also hope that the rivalry doesn't get to out of hand and we can have some good banter

Agree0 Disagree0

Go along with the north London dominance and the good banter Dave I'm strongly in favour of both mate. Arsenal champions you second to us for the next 20 years.

All in their rightful place and all very happy to be there

Not posted since the summer transfer window. but I will say I was one of the fans that blasted Wenger at every oppurtunity for the inactivity of our transfer dealings. so far he has proved me wrong. long may it continue.
anyway tonight I think Bentner has a point to prove. and he may just come good ( I hope ) because we will have a team of youngsters tonight, hope they get through as winning this trophy could give us the platform we need to win other things this season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The good thing about him being in the squad is the youngsters can know not what to do at this young age and not follow the bad example he set.

If he scores, great, won't forgive him for being the fool he was and still is. But it will be the start of a long road to redemption.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not wanting a fight but I think wenger has sold you short to fight for the cups ozil brilliant signing and you already have a brilliant team but you definitely needed some depth and I think this may only may haunt you in november/december

Bendtner going to be playing tonight?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Starting mate. Giroud is rested

Agree0 Disagree0

OOh here's a poser.

Say Bendtner scores a hatrick, will he be welcomed back with open arms?

Agree0 Disagree0

At this moment in time with our thin squad. I would be relieve to see squillachi play center forward.

just can't risk the key players. in what will be a game full of kicks.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Betner scores a hat trick he will be demanding an apology from Real for buying Bale and not him :-)

If he scores a hatrick messi will call him to ask if he can have TGSTEL autograph

Pretty junior squad named for tonight, Ryo and of course Gnabry look certain to start, I reckon Eisfeld may join them. Depends whether Wenger plays Nacho at LB or LW. Actually looking forward to Bendtner's return - either he kicks himself into gear, or shows Wenger that we need another striker in Jan. Flamini and Arteta probably starting so can see us being quite solid, I'm going for 2-0 to us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm going for 4-0 Bendtner hatrick, having a pound on that!

Alot of people saying our squad is thin and needs more depth however I have to disagree. Besides the striking role which needs another face, I personally believe that we have a very good squad with decent cover in all positions. What we have got at this current time is a ridiculous injury record whcih leaves us threadbare.

To have Vermaelen, Arteta, Cazorla, Rosicky, Oxlade, Podolski, Diaby, Walcott, Zelalem, Sanogo all out simultaneously is crazy. that's pretty much another team out injured.

As much as I hate international breaks, i'm fairly glad that one is round the corner as (provided we don't lose others to injury during it) it will those out to rest up and return without missing too many league games.

I also would have no qualms if Wenger fielded a youth squad with the addition of Arteta and Vermaelen (for match fitness) against West Brom in the COC. I obviously want Arsenal to win every game and to get their hands on a trophy but this season I feel we can have a good go in the league. Should we field a strong squad and pick up a serious injury it could impact this.

We all want the best for the team and this, at the current scenario we are in seems to be for the best in our near future.

Really hope gnabry takes his chance now and forces Walcott to the bench.

He's got all the attributes to be a top winger, he's stocky, quick, powerful, a good dribbler and tough, it really showed against Stoke people climbing all over him and he kept the ball and stayed composed.

He's a top prospect and this could be his chance now, not to forget miyaichi, both now have a great opertunity, and wenger isn't one for dropping anyone when they're inform no matter what there name is or how old they are, gnabry didn't look out of place against Stoke and I really feel he will have a great game against west brom if he plays.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with this totally - he looks a real prospect looked big enough, strong enough, talented enough, tough enough and confident enough.
