Hi Ed,
If Arsenal do move for a CF. Will Martinez be considered? He's the best option available for me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - if we were going to get someone of that calibre it would be done by now. We've been forced back in, so expect someone on a similar level to Giroud

I've read that Milan are in for him currently. Surely, if we made a move, we could still sign him if we wanted ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal has made no efforts to sign him.}

That would be an issue in signing him! Thanks for the info Eds.

And Lord Wenger said, let there be striker, and there was Jackson Martinez, and he was good.

26 Aug 2014 21:53:25
I think we may have found the solution to our striker situation. Benik Afobe.

2 goals against utd tonight.

i jest of course, but I really hope he can do well for mk dons this year and we'll at least be mentioning his name alongside sanogo and campbell next year.

also. manu losing 4-0 to mk dons no matter how 'weak' a side they put out is just hilarious.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hah and we thought we are rubbish

Let the MK Dons v Manchester United game be a lesson for every team.
Never under estimate the opposition.
Always! Play your strongest team.
End of lecture.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Unless you want out of the competition Golds, I think van Gough only has eyes for the CL places.
He strikes me as a man who wants what he wants and ain't fussed about anyone else who gets in his way or see's things differently

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 22:35:39
Couldn't agree more, tomorrow night being a prime example of when we should. We cannot afford to mess that up.

Agree0 Disagree0

G62

I have just posted something similar on another forum, Man U didn't give a monkeys toss about tonight. LVG has one focus. top four, forget the F A Cup, the Mancs are a tad embarrassed about being out of the CL, they want back and quick.

Also shows just how good SAF was and also that D Moyes wasn't really that bad

Agree0 Disagree0

D Moyes wasn't really that bad, Ba!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 07:55:43
Don't buy into that at all, total bow locks, United need games to get a poor squad to gel and start playing football, Van Gaal likes to bring through youth and what better way to see it.

They have no European football, to win the Capitol One Cup gets you into Europe. The league is no guarantee for them, everyone is stronger.

Failure to make Europe in any form will be a massive head ache for them and if you got the impression from his body language and expression that he didn't care, not really sure what you were looking at.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Banbury mate, utd getting beat is never a bad thing but to pretend that their anything but happy about being out the league cup is deceiving yourself.
Lvg is aiming to get them back to top 4 ASAP and anything that makes that even slightly more difficult will be ditched.
I was pleased Sunderland got a point from them on Saturday but 3 would have been better.
Utd out of the top four come May is well worth getting excited about but last night isn't

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 16:24:55
Gunner62. Absolutely right. And if anyone thinks that LVG didn't care whether they won last night is seriously deluded. Of course he wants to win. He has gone there to do a job. I'm sure in his interview he never sat there and said "Oh by the way don't expect us to win a match for the next month or so it's part of my plan".
He has not turned up just to take notes that's for sure.
But anyhow I'm quite happy for them to trip over at every opportunity.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - "and so say all of us"..

26 Aug 2014 21:51:27
Well done Benik Afobe tonight. 2 goals for MK dons against Man Utd

I'm getting anxious. Di Maria to United, Eto'o to Everton. Ed, is Arsenal interested in Remy?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - not yet

26 Aug 2014 21:50:49
Dear Arsene some people are being very unreasonable and expecting far too much from you, some want a LB CB DM CF and another winger, I feel for you my friend I really do.
Where as all I want it a jolly decent Danger Mouse and that's it, I will ask no more of you Mr Wenger I promise.
Remember you can't please all the people all the time, so just please me this once

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2014 20:28:24
Think it says a lot about our squad depth that we are having to consider between 2 untried and untested youngsters.

Look at Man City: Aguero, Dźeko, Negredo, Jovetic
Chelsea: Costa, Drogba, Torres
Man Utd; Van Persie, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck
Liverpool: Balotelli, Sturridge, Lambert

We are weak compared to all our rivals even with Giroud. Now that he's out, it really signifies why you need at least 3 out and out strikers in your squad.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Podolski, sanchez, giroud

Agree0 Disagree0

Podolski and Sanchez aren't out and out strikers.

Lukas Podolski for Arsenal.

69 apps, 28 goals.

Not bad for a player who is either played wide on left or sits on bench.

Still a damn fine player. Bear in mind we will probably lose Giroud for 3 months, why not give him a long run in the team, as an out and out striker, our number 9?

No player, even Messi, can perform to a high level, if they are in and out of the team.

Playing consistently is the key.

He's a top top player, his stats prove that, all he needs is a good run.

Is now the time?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree Dags, I would love to see him given an unbroken run of 10 matches and then judge him from there

Agree0 Disagree0

He's fit and in the squad for tomorrow. A no brainer if you ask me. Has the experience we need for a game like tomorrow night.
Rosicky should play too in place of Ramsey aswell.

Agree0 Disagree0

Very wise Mr. Gunner! Makes a lot of sense. I like that idea for striker, Toby A for defender and Carvahlo for DM - that's manageable.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not convinced he can play as the lone central striker in a 4-3-3, whenever he has played there he as been ineffective in that role. Yes he not had many playing chances to prove otherwise But I still feel he is better as wide attacker on the left side. He is better with space to run into rather that with his back to goal expecting to hold up the ball.

Even without Giroud's Injury I still feel we need another proper Physical central striker to compete with Giroud. So in a way Giroud's injury might be a blessing in disguise forcing Wenger to get in another striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 22:46:15
I've been banging the drum for another CF, long before Girouds unfortunate injury. As much as we need cover in that area, I would love to see Poldi start up front and dominate. I remember last season, he got a start and patrolled the pitch like a man possessed. Tracking back to help defend, always moving to provide an option and constantly threatening when in sight of goal. More of the same please Lukas!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 20:20:15
I'm still scratching my head and wondering how we missed out on Manolas, AW needs to have something lined up .

Does anyone else think the reason why we seem to have this last minute dash because we leave CL qualification until the last minute.

It seems every Summer we leave it late to get replacements

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2014 20:35:57
Apparently, even Manola's agent said he couldn't understand why Arsenal didn't make an offer.

He was our's for the asking.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure cl qualification is the reason.
Even after the spending accounts show we still have a healthy £80m + in reserve. That's a conservative estimate. It's still likely to be £100m +.

The new sponsership and tv deals we are subject to for the first time this year cone to more than what we earned from cl last year.

If we don't qualify for cl it strenghens our charge for the league / automatic cl qualification next year.

I think the reason is wenger was counting on selling one or two more than he has by now - coq, Santi, Japanese Ronaldo, poldi (prior to girouds injury).

Count the number of players we have. It's a huge squad, regardless of our short numbers in specific areas of the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are waiting to assure Champions league Qualification fro sure as that will make up any remaining significant transfer budget that we can use. Qualification is a Min 50Million in revenue. Manolas we only bid 8 Million and he went for only 2 Million more to Roma so that shows Arsenal unwilling to spend a lot before qualification is assured.

We must get through as we now need another Physical central striker that is capable of dealing with the physical demands of playing up front on his own and is able to hold the ball up. Sanchez is not up to that role, and Podolski and Walcott have both proved ineffective there aswell. Campbell I also doubt for that role.

Young Sonago is just not good enough to rely on for any consistent run of games, he should be loaned out.

Maybe we could buy Remy and loan QPR Sonago back to sweeten the deal. Bony would not be bad option aswell might be hard to get from Swansea but with them having Gomis now maybe a chance.

Yes I would Love Falcao as that is the sort of Top star striker that we need to really compete but let's be honest that is just not going to happen.

Whatever we do we must NOT buy Wellbeck he is useless as goalscorer, and pretty useless all round asa forward anyway if you ask me, apart from the odd skillfull move 1 out of 10 games. Infact I rather bring Bendtner back than Wellbeck as a forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

The way I see the situation with Manolas that he wants guaranteed first team football.
Is he a player we could say that to? I don't think so as he's no better than Mertesacker or Koscielny. He's now got an opportunity at Roma who are losing their top defender Benatia to B Munich. That's pretty much guaranteed football for him.
Vermaelen left for the same reason he didn't want to sit on the bench at Arsenal.
So where does that leave us? I'd say 2 options. 1. Buy another "Sylvestra" type of player. Someone available for next to nothing who's happy to play bench warmer behind koscielny mertesacker and chambers.
2 try and buy a top class CB who will walk straight into the team and make the other 3 fight it out and cover.
I'd prefer option 2

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 20:19:49
We have needed a CDM, CB and striker since last season. How nice it would have been to have them in pre-season to have gelled with the team and found their feet. We play Besiktas tomorrow. If we win that, then we can expect some signings to come in (according to the rumours that is).

So here is the potential chain of events:

*Arsenal play Besiktas tomorrow and win
*Arsenal announce first new signing on Thur/Fri this week
*Arsenal play Leicester on Saturday
*Arsenal announce new signings 2 and 3 the following week
*Transfer window closes
*Weekend after Leicester fixture free for internationals so limited training together for the team
*Team re-groups after international break for first real training period with new signings
*Arsenal play Man City on the 13th at the Emirates

Can I have predictions for the Man City game on the 13th? Lol

Don't think Wenger would ever buy a 31 year old striker. Agree with the Carvalho part

26 Aug 2014 19:36:46
Hello Ed, inspite of Remy being such a talented player and having good EPL experience, why top teams are avoid him? Is there any medical reason? and is there any chance we will go for him this season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - yes there is mate, he failed a medical at liverpool due to a heart problem apparently..

26 Aug 2014 19:08:30
Hi Ed's with Giroud out for a while is Cavani being considered? Or is welbeck or Remy a more likely signing? Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - Welbeck and Remy are more likely if any striker is signed

26 Aug 2014 19:16:15
Previous transfer windows have shown us that there can be one transfer which kicks off a chain reaction, which in recent windows has resulted in Wenger proving that patience pays off.

This is how I see this one going (I don't think Giroud's injury has affected this at all) and it will go right up to the end of the transfer window.

Madrid selling Di Maria to free up funds to buy Falcao, a no longer required Benzema moving to PSG who will sell Cavani to Arsenal.

That would mean -
Spurs sell Bale to help us buy Ozil
Liverpool sell Suarez to help us buy Sanchez
Man Utd buy Di Maria to help us buy Cavani

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - Benzema signed a new deal, he's definately still required. I'm sure he would of known about the possibility of Falcao arriving before he signed on

We will never cough up for Cavani, our big spending has been and gone

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 19:13:07
Ed
Lots of rumours of a 50million bid for Cavani.
Is there any chance whatsoever that this transfer, impossible as it may seem, will go through before deadline day?
Probably not a question you want to answer :) but thanks anyway.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - No

26 Aug 2014 19:04:49
I love the fact that so many of us agree Sanogo just is not good enough. You want to compete with big boys and you trot Sanogo out there I don't get it. Campbell has way more talent!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2014 18:34:18
Evening all :) been a reader for years but thought it time I posted something. .
Now with RM letting Maria go and Monaco saying 60m euros gets falcao would that fund a RM move for him allowing Mr Wenger to go after Benzzzzzema? Just a thought that like the Bale transfer last summer starting a domino effect could Maria start one this summer. .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2014 20:02:21
Would be nice mate, but can't see it.

I think Benzema has also signed new contract at RM.

Welcome to the site, btw.

Good shout Witty.

I never ever thought about Remy :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 17:34:06
On Ozil - he needs a proper preseason plus he needs a functioning side.
If no one is making runs - what's the point in him!
I am a huge Ozil fan and believe he does so much work for the team, gives it that cutting end and balance. Do I want him tracking back 50 yards to follow a fullback - NO. That's wasting his energy and puts him in the wrong area for our attack.
I am fine with him on the wing - just put a decent fullback and CDM in place so Ozil can use his energy creating chances.
Until then - let's get off his back as he ain't a defender and we didn't buy him or pay him to do that.

Build the team around Rambo, Ozil and Alexis. Trophies will come.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He also needs to pass the ball harder so it gets to the man

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree SY4. Its funny, but you (rightly) never see anyone state that Dennis Berkamp was not a great player because he did not work hard enough tot rack back and defend! The same goes for Ozil, let him do the business at the right end of the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 18:49:36
i think that's just lack of match sharpness Witty,
once he finds his comfort zone he'll flourish with those perfectly weighted passes

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 19:02:38
He also needs to man up to the EPL and grow some balls, bit light weight imo

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 20:09:43
Good points.

Agree with Witty, but as PdotY said, it will come.

Harsh 1404, harsh but funny :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

He was doing it allast year don't think it's match fittness

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 20:49:22
Witty,

I think Ozil suffered more than most last season with the injuries to Rambo and Theo.

Rambo is back, Theo soon and having Alexis in the team should bring out the best in Ozil.

If not, he could prove to be a waste of money.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 17:17:01
I know we all want a Striker. but if we are only able to get 1 more player, a defender is priority!

Podolski / Theo may not be Cavani, but they will have support and can get goals.

Our concern should be tyo avoid the huge thrashing we recieved last year when we were naive at the back.

A versitile DC/DM would be ideal!

26 Aug 2014 18:49:16

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 16:14:12
My little daily rant as i'd like to see if others agree or not.
We have not realy strengthened exept from the Sanchez deal other than that all players that has come in is only like for like replacements. Yes chambers in my opinion will be world class but that's will be so he is a bit of a risk at the moment to throw him in at the deepens ie away to madrid in champions league.
We have gained about £35m from t vermaelen, fabregas, vela, and other players that we have released and brought players in for around 60m so we may have spent about 25m
Everyone in the pl has spent more than us I mean everton has paid 28m for lukaku.
When you look at it like that we are not spending. All out for carvallo please mr wenger you missed out in yaya toure years ago so now get the new yaya

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2014 17:27:25
MG,
Interesting thought because that was my thought at halftime after the changes. This is the same side as last year!
However, we have added quality and still 6 days to go. A bit too early to panic and if Alexis had banged in 3 goals by halftime, I would have had a completely different opinion of the team. How fickle am I!!
I think there's a lot to be pleased about, I think we still need to add as well as find our mojo plus hopefully 2 more signings.
The main thing is to find our mojo!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 14:18:14
I am wondering what team would be best for tomorrow night. I think Arsene might play Sonogo but I hope not, perhaps he should give Campbell a try with Ozil in behind.
Anyone else with ideas for tomorrow, I must admit this game is worrying me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2014 14:44:31
So long as he dosen't play Ozil on the wing again. I hate seeing him being wasted there.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to see someone play attacking left midfield who is actually a winger type player. Not Cazorla and not Ozil. Poldi or Campbell are probably our best options currently. Maybe even put the Ox on the left?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone but Sanogo. The fact he's even being considered is just ludicrous.

I'd have to say Campbell flanked by Alexis and Ox, Ozil in the middle behind them, where he belongs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Every other top team in the league has options in every position, and they are quality options.
We lose a striker and have no proven second choice? Absolutely shocking position for a club to be in.
Everybody said we needed to buy in many positions last year but especially a striker.
Wenger does not listen or want to take us to that next level. Having Giroud as a number 1 choice is IMO not enough to challenge for top honours, having no backup is simply mis-management.
We have sold a few people and bought in a few. Slightly improved, but not enough in quality or squad depth.
Same old season ahead?

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope Campbell get a chance

Agree0 Disagree0

Midfield for me has got to be flamini Wilshere ox ozil sanchez with podolski up front.

With Rosicki, cazorla, Campbell still a reasonable bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think we will squeeze through but it not going to be straightforward.

Arsenal will not make any more buys until qualification is assured because it means a extra 50Million min in the coffers.

So it is vital we get through because we need a few players still. We need a CB and proper DM min and if Giroud is going to be out we defo need another like for like striker aswell.

Sonogo just not good enough need to go out on loan. Sanchez and Podolski are both ineffective as lone central strikers as would Walcott when he is back.

Maybe Remy may be a good option for the Forward, please not Welbeck. Carvalho is strong rumour for DM although Manolas looks to be dead now with Roma Outbidding stingy Arsenal.

Infact Giroud getting injured might be a blessing in disguise really that if we do get through the tie as we needed another central striker anyway for me to give Giroud real Competition.

Agree0 Disagree0

Akpom maybe, I'm going to the match (first of the season for me) & I'm pooing myself

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 17:18:33
I'd like to see Sanchez up front, ozil behind him

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 14:03:32
Carvalho is the man we need big strong technical cdm or cb only 22 will just get better. The belgian from a madrid can cover cb and rb and is only 6 to 8 million.rabiot from psg 8 million only young but tall.what about bony from swansea proven prem 20 goals plus job done any thoughts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm a big fan of Alderwiereld or however you spell it. Watched him a bit at Ajax. He would be a great defensive signing. Carvalho would be a beast, if the price is right.

So listening to some people on here is laughable but I've decided to sum things up:

Szczesny looks a bit sketchy and our sub keeper is inexperienced and about 12yrs old. Ospina was injured before we signed him and hasn't kicked (or saved ball) since his arrival!

Mertesacker has gone from being a leader and a potential captain to Igor Stepanovs after 90mins.

Koscielny is nursing an Achilles issue and hopping around on one leg. Kieran Gibbs has pulled his hamstring for the 9th time.

Mikel Arteta is injured and Flamini is a liability and we still don't have a "danger mouse" in midfield.

One of our most lethal finishers in Podolski has got his "howa to speaka Italiano" Del Boy knock off language CDs ahead of a move to Italy.

Sanogo scores more against Benfica that EVERY other game combined for Arsenal before or since. Giroud has broken his ankle (allegedly) and our inspirational midfielder with a knack of scoring winning and or important goals, is banned for one match following his red card in the first leg. So we now go into our second leg against Besiktas praying we get through in the hope that Wenger splashes the cash and sorts it out!

Oh and there's no sign of Walcott and don't get me started on Abou Diaby!

I think that about covers it! Reasons to be cheerful guys and girls!

Going to be very interesting to see how we perform without my mate Giroud, he will be missed for sure, probably more so due to the fact that we rely on the guy more than anyone else.meaning if it was Ramsey etc we have lots of midfielders to cover.

Wondering if he would play Podolski on Wednesday??

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wenger has said, "Podolski is in the squad for tomorrow and will stay with us."

I think, give him a go upfront! He can't be that bad surely!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 14:18:20
Podolski is definitely going nowhere now. Although rarely used as a striker - he can and will let off screamers with his left peg. Campbell will probably play the left wing position giving Cazorla more room to roam.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Giroud is injuried for that length of time we are screwed basically without buying a urgent replacement because nobody else can play with any decent impact in his CF role.

Sanchez is not physically able to play the CF role neither is Podolski neither would Walcott be as a lone central striker. Sonago just not good enough.

Without Champions league Qualification though (that means a min 50 Million in the bank) we will not Buy anymore significant signings. This is why we only offered 8 Mill for Manolas and he now looks like going to Roma fro just 2 Mill more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Greeny, that is great news, I like Podolski, he definitely needs a run

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 12:23:03
It is clear that Wenger is waiting for CL qualification before making any further signings. We need at least one central defender, a defensive midfield player and a striker, assuming Giroud is out for 3 months.
The injury situation is as bad as ever: Ospina, Gibbs, Koscielny, Arteta, Gnabry, Walcott, Giroud, Sanogo & Abu Diaby to date.
The squad is hugely imbalanced with too many attacking/midfield options & too few defenders & defensive midfield options.

Some Banter please, were Liverpool that bad or were city that good? From what I saw, Liverpool enjoyed the first 20 or so minutes and city gradually got back into the game, and must say finished quite clinically. I think Arsenal can take a leaf out of this, previous season, we started always slowly against the big teams and never started playing till we went a goal down or after HT, here city had a possession of 5-7 minutes (when pool were on top), doing nothing just passing it around and getting used to the game. Everytime we went a goal down, we tried to do too much to get a goal back, which ended up in us conceding many more. The best part is city dint even have their strongest 11.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2014 11:37:38
With Giroud's injury we need to sign someone. I was in the camp that wanted another striker regardless, but now even more so. My ideal signing would be Cavani, but if we can't get him, then who?

Read about circi, remy, Wellbeck. All not good enough. One man who might be available, and could be a bargain would be Torres.

Yep you heard me right! I think he's been very poor at chavski, but his form at Liverpool was outstanding, which at that time justified his 50m fee.

In retrospect that was a lot of pressure for a young player to perform. I don't believe that he was given a fair crack at the first team in chavski, his confidence took a knock and he suffered. But you don't go from being one of the best strikers in Europe to a laughing stock.

What Torres needs is a manager who will believe in him. Someone who will stand by him if things don't go right. If that were to happen, I believe that he would recover his Liverpool form. And wenger has been known for those traits.

I for one would take a gamble on him. He'd have a fresh start with new fans. The mistakes he has made will be lessons learned.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - just to point out, Torres lost the blistering acceleration he once had, which enabled him to get space. That is why he looks poor, that is why he was poor in his last few months at Liverpool. He will never be the same player he was, you don't get back acceleration once you lose it.}

Are you genuinely suggesting that we should get Torres over Remy or Cerci, or anyone for that matter?

Are you feeling alright?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 13:12:27
Completely agree about his acceleration, but he also lost his finishing. He could be the poacher we've missed since wrighty

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - because he needed time to get to the ball and take the shot. Without acceleration to give him space, he finds a defender on him when he has the ball. He is not a poacher, it is not his game.}

Torres is absolutely hopeless. Pace gone, poor finishing, and no sense of space. Always looks completely surprised by where the ball is. I don't think Welbeck would be a bad option, less keen on Remy and think Cavani is overpriced for what he offers. Notwithstanding his volatility, I'm surprised we let Balotelli go to the dippers, especially for the bugger all price of £16m.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 17:02:09
He's playing 40 games a season since he was 17. that's 4-6 years before most strikers are first team players. His legs are gone. I still have a real fondness for Torres and would take him for 5m and 70k a week. His exp is tremendous.

I'm hoping the same will ring true for Cesc(finished by 30) so he doesn't prove to be Wengers greatest failing. fingers crossed.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 02:49:37
Put it this way, I wouldn't pay £20m for him, but as sheeny said, at a cut price deal he would be a bargain. Proven at all levels. Would just need to park himself in the box and let our midfielders supply to him.

In terms of pace, yes he has lost a lot, but I'd assume he would be quicker than what we have.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 11:24:02
i reckon we will go for remy.
isn't his release clause 8.5 million?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The scouse didn't sign him because he failed a medical! Something not right there.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 16:57:20
We just need him to last until Giroud is back :P

Personally I'd go for Welbeck. He plays his best stuff through the centre. Has the versatility of being able to play on the wing. Is only 23. Has Prem exp. Would feel he has something to prove. There aren't any WC strikers on the market. And Falcoa/Cavnai if they are have wage demands double of our ceiling.

I think he's the best option. After that it's Remy. I don't I'd take the chance on Bony

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 11:20:19
With all this talk of a new striker signing I'm surprised there has been no mention of Italian striker mattia destro been linked with Chelsea and with 13 goals from 20 games last year he looks a decent striker

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2014 10:29:22
What does everyone on here make of today's rumours regarding Cerci of Torino?

He looks decent (albeit from the few youtube videos I've seen of him) and he's certainly got the hair to be an Arsenal player!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is he going to be another back up player.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's a good player, 13 goals and 13 assists last season. Wouldn't mind him at Arsenal but I can see it just being another player linked one day and not the next.

ED what are the chances of seeing a holding midfield player, a striker and a center back before the transfer window closes?
Cheers for this amazing site :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I still think there is a good chance of all three happening.}

Ed002 I could kiss you for that comment, I won't because if you punch as hard with your fist as you do with some of your replys I might be unconscious for the rest of the season :-)

That does fill me with hope! Out of interest I don't know if you would know this but are they looking for first team players? Like obviously the cb will be back up maybe a youngster. Hope that makes sense lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You need to think "squad" not "team". Arsenal had a deal all but done for Manolas and then backed out - Alderweireld is available and talks have already taken place with Monaco. Arsenal are interested but need to act fast as Southampton and possibly West Ham are looking to him as well. Carvalho is a player the club want. Podolski was to leave with a centre forward coming in. He will likely stay but Arsenal are still considering their options. Perhaps a move for Loic Remy? Maybe Bony? Right now getting through tomorrow will be the main focus.}

26 Aug 2014 18:11:01
Thank you very much for that reply ed. in depth and helpful appreciate it. That's a interesting way to look at it. Squad rather than team. Never looked at it that way. I personally think things may pick up transfer wise after tomorrow. Thanks again ed

If Giroud is out for 3 months I cannot see us winning ANY games without a few signings, he is our best striker and he gives 100% every game.

Last season we tried Podolski striker and like Sanchez is didn't work out.

Either sign somebody very similar to Giroud or sign a good back up for him.

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - See numerous previous answers.}

26 Aug 2014 09:51:49
There are still some welbeck rumours knocking about. Given girouds injury I don't think he'd be a bad signing. He can play wide as well as a lone striker. Something wenger seems to like as it gives us flexibility up top.
I'm not sure where he fits in at utd any more given the signing of di Maria and the other players they have so I wouldn't be surprised if they were looking to cash in. Would they sell to us though?

In some ways giroud injury doesn't change a lot. We still need 3 new signings. Cb DM and St.

Make it happen arsene.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bacon your right. It doesn't change a thing. With that in mind if I'd still be wanting a much better striker than welbeck. I'd rather have Remy than Wellbeck and iv found that hard to type.

"Per Mertesacker is not at the standard a big club needs
If he was English he'd have been hammered for his display against Everton
Germany won the World Cup once Mertesacker was dropped
He's making Igor Stepanovs look like Tony Adams "

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't have the name Stepanovs in any comparison but I do feel and iv said it before he is a weak link. We could and should have a Hummels level centre half. Koscielny would then become even better himself.

Agree0 Disagree0

Honestly. First game back and has to play along side calum chambers and he's copping it already. Wtf is wrong with people.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 09:58:49
I don't see after last season how you can say he is a weak link. He reads the game so well and is such a leader for us. Forget how he played against Everton. I think he is important for us

Agree0 Disagree0

These people slagging him off are probably the same people who were saying he was such a leader and positionally excellent etc and also the same people who were slagging him off at the beginning of his Arsenal career with comments that he's too slow and has the turning circle of an Artic fishing boat.

I would love people to come and criticise you at work. Tell you what a bad job you were doing and knocking the mop out of your hand or telling you they want fries with their burger.

Is the giroud injury confirmed? Its not on the official Arsenal injury news page. What if its just a tactic to catch besiktas by surprise? I mean our formations and style of play are different with and without og12. And yes i'm a huge fan of giroud!😃

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ohh we would come to know in todays press conference.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2014 07:34:39
Well with Giroud out Wednesdays selection is going to be interesting to say the least and the road ahead too. Sanchez as the main man up front? Probably that's what he was supposedly bought for.
The other alternative is too worrying to think about.
How much money did we have in the kitty this season to buy players . Remind me wasn't it £100 plus million.?
Sanchez £35 mill, Chambers £12 mill, Debuchy £12 mill, Ospina £3 mill, Bill Murray undisclosed fee. Looks like there is still a heap of change left.
Yes we have all been here before, too many times I'm afraid.
I would have thought we would have learnt something by now but obviously not.
Oh yes sorry I do apologise the window closes in 6 days there
is still plenty of time to look around for bargains!
Or we can just hang on until the January window opens and earn a bit of interest on what we may have saved. There you go. Have you ever heard of the saying "The richest man in the graveyard "?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - theres nothing like a bit of optimism golds.. :)

Has your "let's be positive" medication not kicked in yet this morning golds?
We shouldn't look at it as all doom and gloom.
Ok so adding Giroud to the list of injured, according to the Arsenal website, Arteta, Gibbs, Gnabry, Sanogo, Ospina and Walcott are the current casualties.
In terms of Midfield options we still have plenty even without Ramsey being available. Rosicky could easily step in to that role and he rarely let's us down. We may even see an appearance from the legend that is Abou Diaby.
And as for striking options. He's still an Arsenal player so there shouldn't be a reason that Podolski doesn't get considered for tomorrow.
It could be worse golds. We could be Manchester United fans watching a slow demise and seeing our club pay 20 million over the top for Di Maria who quite frankly isn't going to be much help when they ask him to play centre back!

Agree0 Disagree0

ROCKY. I took the medication 9 seasons ago I thought it had kicked in when we won the FA Cup. But it was obviously a vey weak dose or a bad batch mate. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

We've only spent with sales as well 25 to 30 mil. We have supposedly money spare and coming in, we don't need to puusyfoot around if we are after challenging for titles let's get what is required. If we don't i'm afraid we have been smoke screened again.

No Aaron Wednesday that's a BIG worry, we struggled from Christmas to April without him and how many winning goals has he scored since he got back from injury?
With no Olly either it could be a very long night Wednesday, I'm not saying we won't make it but goals scorers are looking few and far between on present form.
On the bright side what's fantastic opportunity for Jack to remind us and everyone watching just how good he can be, I'm not putting all the responsibility on him as I realise he's a very long shot to be our hero but none the less its a great opportunity for him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we might see the ox, Rosicki and maybe even Campbell bought in.
It's only a matter of time before sanchez and ozil hit some forms.

Grioud broken foot, Arteta ankle, Podolski off, the Germans not match fit Alexis ( please call me by my first name, ) clearly needs a little more time. sounds pretty much like a normal season in Arsenals calendar, I'd like to think it will be ok and we will make a signing or two.somehow. I doubt it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2014 02:40:04
In light of reports Olly is out 3 months, I wanted to re-post a response I made earlier, to Girouds scoring record. I may seem to be hating on him, but far from it.

I'll say it again, happy with Giroud, but we need more. Banbury, I piped up after Girouds 90th minute heroics, as it confirms how excellent he could be coming off the bench against tiring CBs. Olly with another quality striker like Bony or Martinez to interchange and relieve each other, coming on fresh against tiring CBs, we're a genuine title threat. Olly coming on late relieving Cavani or Falcao, we're title favorites. I've never and will never be anti-Olly but I will continue to shout loudly for a CF, be it a challenger or a replacement to Ollys starting spot.

If Pod goes - we need a replacement

We also need to play Ozil in the middle and tell him not to defend.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2014 23:44:37
i have read a couple of stories tonight that giroud could possibly be out for 3 months depending on the outcome of his second scan.
if he is out for that long surely wenger will have no choice but to buy a striker?
surely he can't think sanogo is good enough.
and no offence to sanchez but I think he's better out wide.

what's your thoughts guys?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If giroud is or isn't out for three months looking at sheikh city tonight we need a striker, to even think about competing. Get a striker in and theo hopefully back in a month to help. I'm not confident wenger will do it though.

As you know I'm not Giroud biggest fan, but understand how vitally important for us he is at the moment.

If we wasn't in the market before, and we should have been, we need to get something done and quickly.

Everyone seems to getting worked up about the lack of transfers. Obviously we have a transfer budget, one with champions leauge football and one without. We are clearly waiting to see if we qualify first. We will see the transfers after Wednesday night.

Remember last year when Wenger sneaked in the transfer of ozil without anyone knowing. I have faith in Wenger to strengthen us.

We have had a decent start of the season without any of our players firing. There a lot more to come from this arsenal side, keep the faith guys.
