The top 4 this season will be a real tug of war. Everton, Westbrom, Spurs...

I think the problem with some people on this page is they treat it too much like 'football manager'. They're too quick complain when we lose (i know you'd usually just turn off your laptops before it has time to register/save). Yes some big changes in players or management might shake things up but is that a risk we really think will pay off? We are better set up for the future than a lot of people on this page make out. We have had a couple of bright prospects recently signing big contact extensions and have sustained high table finishes throughout our ground move. I think in a few years when the FFP rules come into effect we will find our club is already in a good position to accomodate them, and will be competitive in all competitions once more.

On Wenger, I think a lot of the criticism he receives is unjustified. He has been asked to perform much the same role as David Moyes at Everton. I think sometimes we, including myself, forget he has probably been asked to run the club with extreme financial caution for a few years until we are in the clear after our move to the Emirates. Obviously this is frustrating as fans but the long term stability of the club looks to benefit from this which is obviously more important to us. Wilshere's recent interview alluded to how much support Wenger still carries within the camp, stating that Arsene was the main reason for him wanting to commit his future to the club because of his managerial support and vision.

The buisness id like to see done in January is more to fill the holes in our squad that still seem apparent -

Etienne Capoue - An enforcing CDM to fill the gap left by Song. We seem to be lacking a good/natural link between defence and counter attack this year in Song's absence.

Jetro Willems - A bright prospect at LB, one for the future and already breaking into the dutch side.

Im on the fence over whether i think a striker should be brought in. Personally i think the money could be used towards Theo's contract dispute. However i also do not think a player of Walcott's inconsistency should be able to hold our club to ransom over an estimated 100k pw, if thats not what we can afford to offer. If Theo does leave id like us to take try and lure a player such as Isco over. The lad seems to have bags of pace, good control and a trick or two in him.

Hope everyones had a good Christmas, and has an even better new year!

Bear Gunner.

New striker > greedy Theo.

-Capoue just renewed his contract.

what annoys me is that, them red people were calling us last year saying we're a one man team, only van persie doing anything for you, now look at them without him theyd be mid table, they're a one man team that is why i despise them

So tell me how you work that out then. RVP has scored 13 goals out of 48, a great return but less than a quarter of the total. A left back has scored 4, a centre half has scored 4, the goals have been spread around. He's done brilliantly with 13 goals already...but the rest of the team have scored 35. Just saying...

AJH

Agree3 Disagree3

Yes but the amount of times he's dug them out the s*** is more so than what he did at us he has saved them on numerous occasions and saving points like yesterday he scored and got them back on track

Manchester gooner

Agree2 Disagree0

No doubt that RVP is the reason UTD are gaining so many points....but it was inevitable wasnt it? He was the best player in the premier league last year, and he's on track to do it again.
Atleast he has hernandez and rooney and wellbeck to take the pressure off him...at Arsenal he had chamack!

Unions ( what has ruined our beautiful country)

Because Arsenal has an agreement with the Council that at least 60% of supporters must travel by public transport, it was stipulated as an agreement/condition when we moved

Especially to man united, hate that club

There is a slim chance that he'll carry that sorry ass squad of there's to the title, except of course if one of his glass ankles or balsa wood knees don't go in the mean time. Hey Sydney!

Stoner

Agree9 Disagree0

I doubt he would have been sold if he hadn't forced the boards hand with his personic public letter. RVP is the one that stabbed the club in the back. He wanted gone.

Agree6 Disagree1

Then why not Juventus? Bacon face Ferguson is gonna laugh at us again

Agree1 Disagree0

Hey Stoner, how have you been? You lot need to support your own team and stop worrying about us.

I think we accidentally funded Southamptons return to the pl and their academy. {Ed002's Note - Southampton are a very wealthy club.}

Raid on Porto: James Rodriguez - 21 years old, class winger. 12 goals in 17 so far this season

Jackson Martinez, 26 years old, amazing eye for goal. If this guy stays in Porto he'll surpass Falcaos goal record, sign him before the price blows up!

Extra: Eric Lamela - 20 years old from AS Roma, 10 goals this season in 14 games in such a young age, not too bad for a midfielder huh?

I'd take Martinez as striker and Rodriguez/Lamela as creative player/winger. Way better players than this Adrian Lopez guy with only 3 goals we're linked to in the press. These players and a beast DM, and we're ready!

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Don't disagree with you that these are top players and I would love them at the club, but how much would either Rodriguez and Lamela cost ? I think that could be this issue Rodriguez had a release clause of 30million would we pay that much ? {Ed002's Note - Three clubs spoke to Porto about James Rodrigues over the summer and two bids were rejected. Neither matched Porto's then valuation of the player (30M euro). The bidding clubs were Manchester United and Palermo whilst Bayern Munich looking looking carefully at Rodrigues as an alternative to Dries Mertens who they are keen to move for next summer. There may well have been enquiries from other clubs including Juventus and Napoli. It may be tough to find someone to pay the sort of fee Porto would now be looking for after negotiating a much higher release fee (45M euro) for the player.}

Just a topic i would like to discuss.

What do people think about playing Vermalaen as defensivie mid in some games. I would like to buy either Wanyama or Diame. But if not he could slip into our midfield he is good on the ball can make surging runs and score. If he makes a mistake there the defense will be behind him. This would also allow Koscielny to play some games which i would like to see because i thought he was quality last year and dont think he will want to sit on the bench forever.

I'd actually thought about Kos playing there earlier in the season and I guess your thoughts now relate to Luiz at Chelski. He looks great there but I think he's always had that ability but with Kos and Vermaelen it would be a make do i think. They're better CB's.

The other problem with us and a new CDM is the fact Arsene likes to show trust and faith in players, namely Arteta and Coquelin which for me unfortunately means he wont buy in that position. Hope I'm wrong.

Stoner

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldnt be opposed. Kos deserves more game time anyway.

Agree2 Disagree0

Well this has be mentioned before, i think Kos can be better there cause he reads the game excellent and is more of fighter than Vermaellen.

Armakedon

Agree2 Disagree0

For me Kos or Verm would be brilliant there but maybe Kos pips it for me, he loves bringing the ball forward more than Verm whereas Verm likes to be an extra body for a cross into the box. Kos will dribble from defence to attack sometimes, he's rapid....he'd be perfect in a 4132 or 4123 formation imo.

Wenger has you all at it. How about we play and buy players for the positions they were meant rather than having a while team out of position.
Has anyone thought of Chamakh in goal yet?

Agree4 Disagree1

TV should be given a go at DM, Kos is a better defender IMO!

TV is often first to step up from the back 4 leaving space for the opposition to exploit as we all know Per is a great defender but has the pace of a 80 year old!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd rather buy a cdm but i just want to see Koscielny play more one of my favourite players at the club.

Love how all the Christmas posts get disagrees in a similar quantity, 3-4 each usually.
Probably the same people over and over again.
Ah well, sometimes you have to ignore those people.
Even when it's an RIP post people hit disagree, it's sad really.

It's probably the Oracle from the spuds page, he strikes me as the kind if guy whose spending Xmas alone, probably looking through the dictionary for big words to use in ridiculing his fellow spuds on their page.

Re your Pato and M'vila, not sure about Pato in as much as haven't seen him play and if he wants to go home to Brazil, do we really need that?

I wanted M'vila at the start of the season but he seems to be going from bad to worse and much as we need a top CDM is it to much of a risk.

I'd really like us to get some seriously ready to go players, we've been linked to enough as usual but we all wait to see the clubs intentions. We need to strengthen that is a fact.

I know Pato wants a move to brazil, but if he is leaving Milan and Milan are willing to sell, then would it be too crazy to make a move for him then?

Having Pato in our team would be great wouldn't it?
Pato, Walcott, Podolski, Giroud.
that's the kind of strike force we need.

We should try to bring him in as it may be one of his interests to move to the Premier League, with CL football aswell.

Plus, I'm starting to understand and come around to the idea that we need a no nonsense yet technically gifted DM.

M'vila, despite his off field situations, would still be a welcomed addition as Wenger could make him a better player and would be good for our style of play.
He would also allow Arteta to play further up the pitch with Wilshere, so Cazorla could push out wide and the remaining two spots would be filled by Pato/Giroud/Podolski/Walcott.
He would also protect the back four and start counter attacks.

Thoughts?

Nick.

Can someone please explain why Wenger has given Ramsey another contract. The man is not a PL player and frankly should not even be in the Arsenal Team. He has no vision, cannot control a ball, cannot pass a ball and is generally a total waste of time.

Agree6 Disagree17

Because it will increase his value if his contract is longer and they decide to sell in the summer

Agree5 Disagree2

I meant thoughts on my post, but this is cool too.

Ramsey is a decent squad player, but definitely not a winger.
If we have injuries and he gets played at CM then I'm okay with that.

Nick.

Agree5 Disagree4

Why would we want another injury prone player? Sure if he got fit he would be quality but wayyyyyyyy to much of a risk.

And to the above stop slating ramsey, hes still young and has plenty to give. In a few years time he will show his full potential.

The problem with Walcott is he wants to play where he wants, not where the manager puts him. Whoever he plays with, he's gonna cause a selection dilemma. Not what any manager wants

I have nights every now and then when i think about Diaby. No not in the male love kind of way. More in a "i love some players because they are so extremely inspiring to watch on the pitch" kind of way. I honestly believe that he could be the one of, if not the best midfielder in the world. If only he would have stayed fit for more than 10 games a season...If only. I still have my hopes up that he will be great for us. it is just Such a shame. What if, what if. Have a good couple of days fellow gooners. Next year will be a cracker.

Pato anyone? He was regared as one of the best youngsters about but had a few injury setbacks plus he's not playing at his current club.I think Wenger would make him into a worldclass player within 1-2 years and if worst comes to worst we could sell him for a decent profit.

Heard we are in for downing. Hopefully this is rubbish cause he just never scores ( oh yes I forgot he did after a century!). Theo won't sign, hasn't shown wenger enough - lets be clear it's his best season so far but as always it's not enough typical Rvp situation although I agree Rvp is miles ahead of theo but theo is our top scorer for god's sake which means the rest of the " strike force" doesn't cut it. Wenger/ board as usual will cock it up.. I wouldn't mind demba, not star value or Spanish but definitely better than giroud who is a rich man's chamack... Sorry but not very upbeat with the way it's going...
