Limping our way to the end of the year. When the window opens we clearly need to buy at least 2 players, replacements for Holding and Welbeck. In addition it is becoming obvious that we need to move on and replace Ozil and Iwobi. Players such as Maitland-Niles needs to improve, he was poor when he came on.
I am certain Emery knows what he needs, the problem is that he still needs to clear out some players and January is a difficult window in which to sign players. I'm dreading the Liverpool match. I thought Guendouzi and Sokratis were our best two players today,

Spot on RG
Maitland Niles, was poor lost the ball and just shrugged his shoulders, Iwobi looks clueless sometimes
He may know what he needs but whether the funds we be available.
Can you see us paying 60 million for a defender.
Liverpool shopping at asda we are in lidl.

I think the 22 game run made us all lose track of what a huge job and underwhelming squad I Dick inherited.
Dick has played his limited hand brilliantly so far but ultimately I think it's inevitable that city Liverpool Spurs and Chelsea are going to have too many picture cards and aces for Dick to keep us in it with so many 5s 6s 7s in his hand.
January needs to deal us some extremely lucky cards to give us any real chance of sticking with other teams who had such ahead start on us this season.
This seasons top 4 was always a huge ask but I'm sure next season we will have a much stronger hand to play with.

Comparing ourselves to Liverpool is only useful when comparing Jurgen first season to Dicks job now Welsh mate.
Jurgen inherited a very similar Liverpool squad to what we currently have in terms of quality and I'm sure it will take Dick at least as long to get things right for us.

so you think we will spend 60/ 70 million on a defender then.

I must have watched a different game as i thought Guendouzi was one of our worst players (along with Lichtensteiner. please come back soon Bellerin! ) , and has been very poor the last few games. Sadly he should be nowhere near the first team currently, he looks like what he is, a player from the 2nd tier french league who is trying to step up, and should be given smaller roles or loaned out, but to be starting regular games shows how light we are in midfield. We were poor yesterday, and so lightweight in midfield. Time and time again any loose balls in the middle of the pitch are lost to to the opposition, putting the defense under extreme pressure. Its not any one players fault, its just the way we seem to set up. Cracks starting to show, but not hopeful we will address them properly in January, and when we do it, i fear that it will be done all on the cheap. Also, don't know what's going on with Laccazettes mind, but to be substituted again, and for Iwobi of all people, he might as well make it easy for the club and hand in a transfer request. The manager clearly doesn't really think he can play 2 strikers for any long period, and Lacca is far too good to be sitting on our bench, and so sadly, he might as well try elsewhere.

Welsh how long had Klopp been at Liverpool before he spent huge on a CB and Gk mate?
The high priced CB last January and Gk last summer were the finishing touches added once the foundations fixtures and fittings had already been achieved mate. It's not as if Klopp arrived simply added Van Dijk and everything just fell into place by magic, there was an awful lot of ground work done with the players he inherited plus some very smart bargain buys done long before Van Dijk got there.
This time last year people were still saying how Liverpools defence were there weakness but now it's there greatest asset, of course adding an outstandingly brilliant CB has gone a long way to helping that happen but it was no 70 millions magic bullet.
We are still in process of dismantling the final peices of hhe cosy club who have been used to running down their contacts and holding the club to ransom for wages way beyond their ability or what they have ever Delivered in an Arsenal shirt consistently.
When Aaron and Mesut leave they will be the last of that generation with the me me me mentality rather than a Arsenal and me one and that will take us another step forward and who knows maybe next January we might be in a position where we can 70 million on just one player who can make a huge difference to us but right now we are a long way away from needing Just one player.

Work in progress unquestionably with a lot of work to be done.
There is definitely improvement in attitude and effort because I think in recent years we'd have lost that game simply through being out fought.
Only beating Liverpool (I know) will keep us in touch with the top 4 pack this season.

Getting hooked at half time so close to January looked pretty ominous for ozil, be tough and expensive to replace both him and Ramsey!

Don’t understand the Lacazette substitution. He is getting no supply so bring either Ramsay on for a midfielder or even for Ozil instead of Iwobi.

26 Dec 2018 19:34:27
Not sure what to make of that today. Worst of the season, worse than Southampton and worryingly very similar to a last season type performance. Without Ozil or Ramsay we lack creativity in a big way. A midfield 3 of Torreira, Guendouzi and Xhaka is not what we need against teams that sit deep and pack the midfield. Ozil can be blamed for not tracking back maybe but Guendouzi should have bust a nut to get into a better defensive position for the goal. Ozil is our best chance of unlocking these defensive type opposition. If taking him off is making a point or if it is a sign he is on his way out I sincerely hope we have some creative players on the radar.
Defense. deary me. Worse stats than last season. If we are not keeping clean sheets we are not winning scrappy games like this 1-0. Lichtsteiner isn’t good enough and Kos I hope still has a higher level to get back to.

Honeymoon period is coming to an end. Time to see what Unai is really all about.

{Ed0333's Note - Trust in Emery mate he’s the real deal. Transition doesn’t happen overnight. There is very exciting times for you guys ahead, this time next year you’ll remember this conversation.

Thanks Ed. I appreciate patience is key and I am very confident in Emery. Work in progress and I agree good times ahead. Tell him to crack on if you can 😀.

{Ed0333's Note - never met him mate would be an honor if I do ever get the opportunity. A real gentleman that oozes class by all accounts.

{Ed0333's Note - you have a magnificent infrastructure mate. You have the allure of London and bundles of cash to spend n layers. Success is a given.

Looks it Ed. How he dealt with the water bottle incident at the end, and how it was received by the Brighton fan, showed class and maturity on both sides. Like the guy a lot.

And united close in on the 5th place trophy, today and the Liverpool game will decide which group we belong in, top 4 top champions league chasers or europa league 2019/ 20 almost certainties.
3 points absolute minimum but probably not enough while 4 points would keep us well in the thick of it and obviously two wins would send us into 2019 buzzing like a bubble bees in a honey factory.

45,000 fans at the Sunderland game against Bradford in league one. Wow
The past is history but what a foundation to build a better future from that is, how many premier league clubs would love to have 45,000 fans willing to pay to watch them let alone championship and other league one sides.
Jobs outside the premier league surely don't come much better than the Sunderland managers job.

Emery seems in general to prefer a 4-2-3-1 formation, but due a lack of players that can defend in the 3 of the formation, he appears to play 3-4-3, with the full backs adding defensive stability. Hence, why I expect he will buy a couple of players over the next two windows who can perform both offensively and defensively, whilst Ramsey for sure, and possibly Ozil will be moved on.
Today I expect a back 3 of Sokratis, Koscielny and Xhaka, unless Emery keeps Koscielny for the Liverpool match and plays Lichsteiner in the three and Maitland-Niles on the right of a midfield 4. Looking forward to today's match. A win is crucial with Liverpool away at the weekend.

Xhaka the CB makes Xhaka the Midfielder look world class :-)
It's not his fault he's filling in and doing his best job he can there for the team but boy is he bad at being CB.
Personally I'd give Elneny a try there before resorting back to Xhaka.

I would like us to sell ozil in the summer keep Rambo and invest ozil money on a creative, grafter.
Who I don't know.
love your thoughts as I'm stumped.

Various reasons have been suggested:
1) His wage demands were simply too high
2) He is excellent offensively, but lacks defensively
3) Attitude problem

For whatever reason, clearly Emery feels he can be replaced.

Aaron's valuation of himself is far higher than Arsenal's valuation of Aaron so we will no longer be working together.
It's now up to Aaron to find a club who thinks he's as good as he thinks he is And is willing to pay what thinks he's worth (no easy task that)
And it's up to Arsenal to find a replacement who is happy to play for us on the wages we offer.
Aaron is on a free might still struggle to find a club anywhere on earth to actually see him like he sees himself
While there are literally hundreds of footballers from which Arsenal can find a replacement, I've a feeling we will be more than ok without Aaron :-)

From what i'm reading ramsey isn't a fans fav
For me he is better than Ozil/ iwobi,

And as for attitude RG i think since being told he has given everything.

G62, i don't think he will struggle to find a top club,
I hope we find as good as player as we let go
But I would love to be wrong, and see us going to challenge the top 4.
