To the guy who posted today at 20:14:32 stating that:-

"a team will always sign before selling so its a big indication in my eyes"

Do you think you can give Wenger a call and tell HIM that? If we'd've bought some quality players before selling Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Ljunberg, Reyes, Gilberto, Cole, Vieira, Fabregas, Nasri, Toure, Adebayor & Van-Purse-strings we might've actually won some silverwear!!!

Slightly disappointing news about a small minority of gunner fans causing hassle at the brighton game, with their silly banners with Arsene out on them. This sort of thing will not help the team at all, in fact it will have an adverse effect, keep your demos outside of the stadium, and make them peaceful. We all understand the situation is not perfect, but support our club and the manager, and remember what the guy has done for this club.DEVON GUNNER

Ok santos is crap but mertesacker is a joke for me he's clumsy slow and gets outjumped by smaller players I hope he gets sold in the summer I'd prefer shawcross or Chico guys please let me kno wat you think.
Imranredman

Believable10 Unbelievable19

Yeah, proven german international is cr*p. Yeah, some unknown spanish guy with 5 good games in PL(2 of them against us) is better than him. You know what I think... I think you are wrong. This season Merte is claas. Today against brighton is his only below par game... Sadly I can not say that about tommy v. This season he is not the same, but in the recent matches he regain his form. Merte is exposed, because of Vermaelen's weak form and the lack of one true DM. This season Merte is one of the best defenders in the league. Maybe only Kompany is better than him..

Agree11 Disagree4

Your wrong, that's what I think

1404

Agree6 Disagree2

Another blinkered gooner, 2nd best in the league?oh come on. And we get annoyed at wenger for exactly the Same thing. Of course football is about opinions but no doubting yesterday santos was awful but pers for the goals was at fault as well

Shaneyd

Agree0 Disagree0

You reckon mertesacker is better than shawcross or even Chico is a joke it's because of mertesacker we concede all those goals he's a liability would mertesacker play for united, city, Chelsea or even liverpool I don't think so edd can I have your take on clumsy mertesacker please {Ed001's Note - I am not a fan of his, he is tall but his jump is non-existent, leading him to be beaten in the air far too often. His lack of pace forces the defence to play too deep, stretching the midfield out or isolating the forwards, which interferes badly with a passing style.}

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with the comment above Mertasaker is decent defender when you play a deeper defensive line. To me I think he would make a good sweeper in back 3 mopping up behind 2 more aggressive CB's.

He does read the game well but lacks the physical attributes of pace and acceleration to play in higher line that we do. His touch and passing although safe is not sharp enough and too slow for our game.He is the type of player that you need just to intercept the ball and play it simple to a team-mate straight away. No offence to him but the least time he has on the ball the better really.

Wenger more or less dismissed chances of a striker coming in and it's a bit disappointing, i'll admit.

on the flipside, even with RVP's chocolate leg working overtime, we scored 94 goals in all competitions. this season- we're already at number 76 after today, and that's after missing so many chances and not showing up for a lot of games.

this Arsenal side's like a soap opera!

psychocyst.

Believable12 Unbelievable1

We don't have a problem with scoring goals, it's the other end that needs fixing, our front 6 must always be conscious of defending and they really shouldn't be, if the defence does its job the rest of the team can play more freely

1404

Agree11 Disagree1

I know. the defense gets almost no solid cover in the middle and our players out wide focus more on attack than defense.

the back four do themselves so favours either. any long diagonal ball is sure to get through to its man and if God forbid a ball is player straight over the top, we left with hopes that the opposition messes up.
were it not for Mert's positional sense, we'd be goners!

and amidst all of these issues, what players are we linked with? a striker and attacking midfielders. *facedesk*

Cheers stoner,

feel let down yet again, 5 days till the window shut ans still no sniff of a signing.

had a dream we get man utd some where down the line in the cl or fa cup.
24 years sine we beat them in 79 and rvp went for £24 mill, maybe an omen?

he has to be going for a huge signing as dm, can't see the logic in not buying 1 at the start of january unless he's going for some 1 of the calibre of de-rossi..this is the problem with the back 4 their always out of position because there always on the attack.

good win today I hope we get utd in the final.

Charlie,

I would love us to spend the wedge on Wanyama and Hummels, not interested in midfielders or attackers, we have plenty of attacking options right now, we just need to sort the f***ing defence out and we'll be fine.

Add more in the summer but shore us up properly and let the boys at the front play. Don't give a rats about cup tied either, slim to no chance of champs league, we need fourth and a proper shot at the FA Cup to get the ball rolling this season then carry on building.

Stoner

Agree4 Disagree0

Yes charlie a welcome return! you're going to have a load more likeminded-wenger-bashers on here if there isn't at least one significant addition to the team. I see a loan for a second rate player at most and a struggle like we have never seen before.

Marks for game today

Sczensy 5:- Although made a good save earlier was at fault for 1st goal. Needed to be stronger and attack the cross as it was right inside his area. Our Zonal system meant it was his ball.

Jenkinson 7:- Decent defending wise and supported attacks when he could.

Kosceilny 6:- O.K individually but as with rest of defence needs better oraganisation and communication.

Mertasaker 5:- Got caught wrong side for 2nd goal although it was a good dangerous cross. Need to to lead the back line better. often playing offside too much rather than getting goalside. Lack of pace is concern.

Santos 3:- Diaster really, never a LB. Does not look fit enough to cover the ground and positional all over the place, slow closing down for 2nd goal we conceeded. Brighton really exploited his weakness. Not good enough simply put.

Ramsey 6:- Usual O.k but not great. Not much to say works hard but not really incisive further forward.

Diaby 6:- O.k aswell some good runs here and there but needs game time to build up his stamina.

Rosicky 8:- Good found space and time, provided our main incisive threat early on before tiring to be replaced.

Ox 6:- Some good runs but sometimes tries to do too much.

Podolski 7:- Dangerous of left hand side and as always worked well with Gibbs once he came on.

Giroud 9:- Our star player without doubt today. Lead the line well excellent movement off the defenders and provides our only true threat inside the box. 2 well taken goals and could of had couple more.

Subs

Wilshire 7:- replaced Rosicky and continued were Rosicky finished driving forward.

Walcott 7:- Good threat later in game against tired legs. Pace scares defenders. Although should have provided Giroud with a simply hatrick late on.

Gibbs 7:- Miles better than Santos although that is not hard. He seems to link really well with Podolski down left. Some dangerous forward runs late in game.

Wenger 6:- Actually made a positive influence with bringing on Whilshire and Walcott late in game to continue forward drive. Should not have started Santos though.

Ryan

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Both Podolski and Ramsey deserve better marks than that, Wenger has too see the Pod is probably our most dangerous player in the in front of goal, works hard, great passer, great vision, deadly finisher, looks half the player out wide.
Hope fully Jenko did enough today to be considered, his crossing is superb and I think a more alert defender than Sagna.
Not even going to get on the Santos subject, woeful.

Both man utd targets. Will cost under 20mil.

And if arsene feels needs must then jovetic as a cheeky bonus ;)

Sell santos, rediculous wages for his ability. Promote Meade.

Loan jenkinson to stoke, good experience, sign a right back to challenge Sagna. Poor attitude (maybe leaving) my preference would be caceres or piszczek.

Sign a centre back, at all costs! Hummels? Subotic I'd take either!

As for attacking go for mandzukic In the summer, guardiola apparently wants falcao and Suarez, Gomez won't leave but mandzukic probs will. Go for him and watch the goals roll in!

3-2 win in the end, again making it harder for ourselves with some sloppy defending on both conceeded gaols.

Brighton played well look a decent passing side but both goals were more than avoidable. Sczensy should have claimed the first easily it was in his area he has to be stronger and attack to clear the ball. 2nd Santos slow to close down and Mertasaker getting wrong side although was a good cross.

Bad points:-

Defending from wide crosses and set pieces needs a lot of work. Steve Bould needs to get working in training. Defenders need to start taking responsibility and clear their lines. And start getting goal side rather than overplaying the offside trap all the time.

Santos is just a liability at LB, Brighton really exploited his weakness. He does not look fit or quick enough for a start and positionally all over the place.

Good Points:-

Giroud was excellent or best player today lead the line well good movement and two well taken goals. For his first season he is doing well.

Rosicky -- Although Tired due to lack of games near end always managed to find some time and space and a danger on the counter. Good to have him as a option.

Also Wenger actually made subs that actually had a positive effect on the game, although he should have never played Santos in first place.

Santos hasn't just become a bad left back. He's always been a bad left back. Which leaves us asking the question why did Wenger pay 6.2 million for him.
Don't blame the player. Blame the man that bought him, and hasn't been able to improve him.
Well play Giroud :-)

Believable9 Unbelievable0

I can understand Santos getting his share of negativity, but didn't anyone notice how awful Per Mertesacker was (which is not unusual). Why is he in the team? Too slow, rarely moves or challenges for the ball when defending corners or free-kicks. I'm not religious, but every time he gets the ball I find myself praying that he passes it either to the keeper or the defender next to him.

Agree5 Disagree11

Per was very bad, we excuse him for his lack of pace and the fact for such a tall guy he is not good in the air, but his qualities are positional skills and reading the game, today you can argue for both goals he was poor in both.

Totally agree with the Santos comments. His first half performance was truly shocking.

Hes less fit than I am, and that's saying something.

He clearly has ZERO interest and is more suited for a beach footy league in Brazil.

What was that ridiculous shot from 35yards before half? Are you joking me? How about trying something remotely intelligent Santos.

1-1 sloppy from Sczesny it was in his zone and did not attack the ball to catch it or punch clear. Again its down to organisation and communication.

Santos is never a LB and worries everytime. You can see Brighton are trying to focus their attacks down that side because they know of his weakness. They look dangerous from that wide right position.

Who thinks next season will be Arsene Wengers last at the club? The club needs strengthening but no one at the club seems to want to take ownership and actually do something about it. The average transfer fee has gone up over the years and a lot of other clubs have adapted to that, but sadly Arsenal haven't.

How many transfer targets have fans see join other clubs because the valuation was met? The club has a 50m transfer budget, but doesn't seem to show enough energy in wanting to bring in fresh talent to the club. Waiting for the finacial fair play rules to kick in is all well and good, but if there isn't any success being achieved, then how can the club expect to compete with teams on the pitch?

Come on Arsene... why the hell are you so interested in what Pardew or Newcastle are doing? If they want to sign 100 players, it's their prerogative and their funds. It's simple, any agent or selling club will endeavour to spread rumours that every man and his dog wants to buy a player, the press love it, the player may get offered better wages and the selling club more money for the player.

Spreading rumours that a rival club wants them just adds to the possibilities.

Wenger at his best....

----------------------------------------
I will be active, yes. We are looking everywhere. We are open-minded. We want to strengthen the squad everywhere. “ 1st January

It's very difficult because the level of expectation is very high. People want to see Lionel Messi. They don't want to see a promising guy. “ 4th January

We now have Rosicky and Diaby available again. If you look at our squad, it's quite complete but we still work in the transfer market as well. We do not want to bring in average players. We only want to bring in an exceptional player. At the moment we have not found him. You are always under pressure to buy in England and every problem has to be sorted out by buying people. “ 11 January

We are in the market. To find players of a calibre of Arteta, available in January, I wish you good luck. “ 13th January

First of all we want to sort out the injuries we have, and we are trying very hard to close the deal with Walcott. Once we have done that, we will certainly do something else. At the moment I cannot tell you more. We have some improvements to make and we know exactly where. In January it is difficult to find the players that are really better and can give something special to the squad. “ 15th January

wenger the biggest wind up going, arsenal fans have been biten there nails since jan 1st......man you 1 min like zaha next min they get him that's how a club should be run ..wenger we have got diaby and rosicky back ...wow! you never no they might play 5 games each until next season, massive signings that will do wonders for the club

Proves

1) Wenger talks out of his arse
2) he has no respect for the fans
3) He either doesn't understand the market or plays dumb, or both
4) He will not compete to sign any player ever unless they are under £3m - the only player we have signed in the last 2 years who we had competition for was Park! No joke.
5) He has no clue about talent.

Agree9 Disagree4

They all seem like pretty rational statements. What's your point?

Agree3 Disagree7

Sadly this is classic Arsene and year in year out these kind of remarks are becoming all too familiar. We are a long, long way behind the City, UTD and Chelsea's of the world and light years behind side's like Barca and Madrid. Recent results against our rivals magnified this tenfold. Thrashing the Hammers on Wednesday was the worst thing that could have happened. They played a much weakened side due to injuries and Big Sam not wanting to risk some of his key players like Jarvis, Cole and Diame.
I keep hearing that this summer will be a summer of great change at Arsenal. Summer may prove to be too late when we miss out on the Champion's League.
Does anybody really expect change in the Summer I for one do not. Arsene doesn't do change.
And what of now. We can only hope that in the final days of the transfer window we manage to sign these 2 players to strengthen the team. But don't hold your breath. Hope I'm proved wrong.

I think what this tells us reading between the lines is that yes we were in for some players but they chose different clubs as we are no longer as an attractive club option for players!

Personally I feel a move for a midfielder most likely gustavo and a move for striker (maybe jovetic) will be made. Wenger may surprise us!

Ridiculous, pathetic attempts to confuse everybody all the time. It is the managers responsibility to get the best players the club can afford and try to win things.
Does this manager do that, no he doesn't so he and this impotent board must go !
We want winners not also ranks ! Wenger must go for the sake of our sanity !

Still in for Jovetic. No agreement on fee or personal terms, but parties moving closer.

Gooners unite ! Get behind your club and keep the faith!
The time for recriminations is when the race is over and not during it.
Personally I believe Arsenal is a greater team now that it is no longer a 'one man band'.
The game against West Ham proved that.

Chris, sadly the game against West Ham proved nothing!

We played a West Ham reserve team. Big Sam even said it. Listen to his interview on the day after the game. He was forced to over concerns about the likes of cole and Jarvis, plus his lengthy injury list.
Whilst it was great to see the lads turn it on the way they did in that 12 minute spell, it still doesn't hide the fact that this team is woefully short of strength in depth (players who can step in and do as good if not a better job than the player he is in for).
I like many Gooners a right behind this team (that's why I pay crazy ticket prices to watch them so often - £62 for Liverpool, £83 Bayern, £123 City (plus train fare). All I ask is that whilst there is still time to improve the team, Arsene and the board do so, because come mid Feb when Diaby and Rosicky (who I really like) are injured again and Giroud and co are suffering from a lack of confidence again we will be back to square one with no able reinforcements to call on.

So Wenger announces that Wilshere is captain and then puts him on the bench, i'm started to suspect he couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it

Didn't wenger say no one is going out before anyone is coming in, so why has frimpong gone on Loan and we've made no signings?!

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Er...no my friend, he said nobody is coming IN until we shift some players.

So far we've loaned Djourou who never wants to come back, Chamakh, and now Frimpong.

So you would think 'yes time for signings!' - but Arsene has said that he thinks Ramsey is purpose built for DM role.

I actually agree with him...but still, now we have to take a punt on that working out.

I will be shocked if we sign a DM when we have Diaby Arteta Coquelin and now Ramsey for that position. Even if Wenger is missing the whole concept that Diaby is injury-plagued / unfit, Arteta needs rotating and isn't really a DM, Coquelin needs game time and doesn't get it....

Agree1 Disagree0

I think he meant first team players - sadly frimpong's leaving does not mean a signing. It means that Wenger's wants him to get games and fitness.

In the cm area we have:
Arteta
Wilshere
Ramsey
Diaby
Coquelin

Sadly Wenger's view is that we are 'full here' and don't need more players.

I think we may get a defender at best but even then it looks unlikely.

So Frimpong has gone to Fulham till the end of the season, i'm sure his contract runs out at the end of this season.

Is he renewing his contract or could this be bye bye

Believable4 Unbelievable1

I think sadly its bye bye baring a miracle. Shame as I would have liked to have seen him play alongside his buddy Jack.

well you have to look at jack and then look at frimpong to get a pretty good idea why. jack got his head down, got on with his life, worked hard off the pitch, behaved exceptionally well, raised his son some more...ramsey was the same after his injury.

frimpong has the mental output of a 15 year old, his focus seems to be on football last even when he's fit, he's too busy selling t shirts, bigging up grime rappers, dating girls with swag and chatting breeze on twitter. it's all very well saying 'i am focused' but if you don't act it then nobody will believe you. he doesn't seem to be all that focused at all. he might get a contract for another year, but for me that would surely only be if he absolutely nails it for fulham - and he won't if he doesn't play.

i really really want to see him in action and turn his fortunes around, I really do, we could have an exceptional midfielder on our hands but the club will give up on him if he doesn't show the right attitude. end of the day he has jack, gibbs, ramsey and theo who have suffered big or regular injuries, they want him to stay, so if he hasn't got the gist of what it takes at the top level then so be it. guy needs to grow up a bit.

In in interview given by Arsene Wenger today he has ruled out the 3 players rumoured to be joining Arsenal this January, those being Hummels, Villa and Belhanda if that is the case Ed will arsenal step up their interest in Jovetic and Diame?

Ads 995 {Ed027's Note - No for Jovetic, and Diame is there for the taking, if we don't sign him we dont want him

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Diame would be a starter for us without a doubt. For me diaby needs to have a clause on his nxt contract where he gets half his wage anyway.the rest is appearance based. If he doesn't like it he can go

frimpong has joined fulham on loan untill the end of the season. good move if he comes back as I think he's a top prospect but a lot of reports claiming he's out of contract in the summer and will be allowed to leave which I think would be a real shame. ed do have any knowledge as to whether wenger has lost patience with him or if you think he'll return to stay will arsenal for the long term? {Ed027's Note - i heard he was out of contract too, not reliable thouh, i hope he stays, if anything he has improved his behaviour, though now he's on loan to a established Prem club rather than a bottom half championship side

Hi Ed027, I noticed that on a recent post you stated that Adrian Lopez and Mohamodou Diame were no longer first choices, so I was just wondering who you now believe are Arsenal's first choices now?

Thanks :) {Ed027's Note - I don't know who our first choice is for midfield, but i understand it's a "better" player, one that can pass the ball. In terms of strikers we have a dilema, if we buy one Theo's chances are limited, if we don't we'd need a winger to replace Theo, Adrian was being looked at as a replacement for Theo, David Villa is seen as the perfect buy,by most, we can get goals from him, theo can learn from him, and theres Giroud who can offer something else
