Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

26 Jan 2015 22:40:35
There has been a lot of talk over the years that the FA Cup has lost it's magic.

In fairness, over the year's, the bigger boys, Arsenal included, have fielded 'weaker' teams, although not so much lately, but would you say this weekend, with all the cup upset's, has brought some magic back to the FA Cup?

What say you?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not many doves but a few disappearing acts.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think with the BBC giving it top coverage again and the likes of Cambridge Bradford and Middlesbrough getting results non one thought possible the fa cup is in its best shape for years.
BBC are also doing an all day coverage of the final itself stating early morning and going right through the day which will be brilliant to see again

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 20:54:49
Mert and Arteta out of the lineup. who's then the captain?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - sanchez?

26 Jan 2015 21:11:42
Not too sure if you are talking immediately or in the distant future, but I don't think BFG will give up without a fight.

Runner up to player of the season (last season), so I don't think he will give up without a fight.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kos the boss surely :)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - decent shout that je..

Kos the obvious choice, but bit worrying I can't think of anyone else to make a case for

Agree0 Disagree0

You sure about that Dags? I mean an actual fight where people might get hurt? You sure he's up for that mate?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 21:58:37
you not a fan G62?

I think he still has a lot to offer, but I can definitely see Paulista taking his place alongside Kos.

Agree0 Disagree0

What about Santi? Him or Kos would fit the bill!

Agree0 Disagree0

I was before the Stoke and Liverpool incidents Dags quite a big fan, but in the absence of any explanation of his behaviour in those two games I can only assume he didn't think iour club worthy of his standing his ground

Agree0 Disagree0

He's upped his game recently and has been great, but its only been recently and is he really a leader and likely to shout at people?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 22:33:44
G62,

We all make mistakes mate.
Yes, the Liverpool one was ridiculous but maybe he thought another Arsenal player was behind him, and better positioned to clear the ball.

I remember years ago, Lee Dixon scoring 2 own goals in first 10 mins of a home game.
Players make mistakes mate, but I do understand why the Liverpool one has irked you so much.

I think now Paulista has signed, Mert will up his game.
Remember, he has partnered Kos, Debuchy, Chambers and Monreal at CH this season, that can't be easy not having a 'regular' partner.

I think he will come out fighting.

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't have a roll ya sleeves up shouter so we have to choose someone who regularly leads by example with a give their all performances. Has to be Sanchez who has already upped the teams work rate by leading the way.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you G62...a leader by example..

Ramsey is the future captain of Arsenal, no doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rosicky is the No.3, wears the armband when both are out and on the pitch

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jan 2015 00:45:52
Im not saying make him captain obviously that'll be silly. But we need someone to be captain who is like coq. Just shouting and yelling at people who aren't doing their job properly. Sadly IMO no one fits that description in our team. So it's say kos.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jan 2015 03:32:16
I think our pecking order for captains is / should be.

Arteta
Mertesacker
Flamini (Poor player, but good leader and is vocal)
Koscielny
Rosicky
Ramsey
Wilshere

I think a 'lead by example' captain doesn't really work. You need someone who is vocal and commands respect. Eg Terry, Gerrard or Kompany.

For me Wilshere is like Rooney. Future captain in the making.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe if he stays - coquelin could get onto that list

Agree0 Disagree0

Has to be Kos, if he's fit he starts simple.

Agree0 Disagree0

Detroit I agree it has to be someone who is vocal but I also feel it has to be someone whos an automatic starter which makes me aprehensive about your first 3 and only really leaves kos out of the 7

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 20:34:48
Recorded motd just to listen to comments I have to say one Neville brother goes to sky and is a half decent pundit the other one plucking flanker nuff said

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jan 2015 20:55:32
G62 look at what you've started about laurel and hardy.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 21:12:42
Gary is decent, Phil is a dufus.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think gary is better than decent dags...and we need a DNA test on phil..

26 Jan 2015 21:35:17
True Ed,

He calls it as it is.
Carra is decent too.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate carra, I like Gary and Jamie and Henry of course, I just really don't like carra

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 22:35:12
Essex,

I'm a bit confused with your post.

Do you like Carra? Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

BFG Won't give up his place easly, This new guy at least needs a season to enter the first team IF he is good enough.

And who knows, by next season we have an obvious choice for captain, maybe a consistent, injury free, hard working Rambo.

Although In my wild fantasies Wilshere is always the future Arsenal and England captain. lel.

Agree0 Disagree0

Woops, wrong post

Agree0 Disagree0

Just re read my reply there dags, don't know why I had to say twice that I don't like him :S

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jan 2015 14:35:22
Lol Essex

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 20:03:59
Take a look at the picture of Paulista on ssn he is definitely the love child of Silvinho and Martin Keown or is it just me?
SG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

SG
He will scare more strikers than the great Margret Thatcher.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - great??...take that back..scum of the earth you mean!!!!!

26 Jan 2015 20:31:13
I think you have it spot on SG :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 21:08:23
Blimey Welsh,
Ed025 will never be a Thatcher-ite.

Coal miners, Dock workers, Steel workers, petrochemical workers, Shipbuilders, Toxteth and Hillsborough cover-up springs to mind.

Sorry to get political Ed, but I know you boys don't like her, for good reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its pure hate dags i can assure you mate..

26 Jan 2015 21:14:49
I know Ed, one of my mates is a Scouser, he spoke very highly of her (NOT).

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i wont get political on here dags, lets pick on spurs.. :)

26 Jan 2015 21:36:42
Lol, the only thing worse than Thatcher 😆

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not having that! Spurs, RVP then thatcher

Agree0 Disagree0

I have fond memory's of thatcher! We named our dog after ( and yes she was a bitch )

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 19:52:54
So, now we have Paulista, is this the end of Merts (next season).

We know Wenger likes to play a high line and push the back 4 closer to the midfielder, but it sometimes backfires because Merts is not the fastest (I'm certainly not blaming him for everything, I'm a fan), but is Paulista and Kos his favoured pairing for next season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jan 2015 19:06:47
BANTER EDS PLEASE
Does everybody now think that we are a feared team in the FA CUP Draw.?
Also I see the Manchester United are favourite's, does that mean the bookies think Van Wally is desperate to win something.
Hope the don't jump around for joy if the beat Cambridge.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jan 2015 20:15:56
I think we should be favs, purely because Moan Utd still have to overcome a replay.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - dont rule out liverpool..

26 Jan 2015 20:32:13
And don't forget Liverpool :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 19:30:01
I've had a bit of a crush on the One show's Alex Jones for the past few year's, tonight I fancy her just a little more, home draw will do the opposition I wasn't that fussed about

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jan 2015 19:27:53
We've got Middlesbrough in the cup, should be okay as long as we play our strongest 11.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 19:07:40
uh oh . just seen that Anthony Taylor is the ref for the game versus Villa at the weekend. Let's have a guess on what diabolical decision will take place. I am going for Koscielny to be sent off for having a bad hair day.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jan 2015 20:21:12
I think he was the ref who sent off Callum Chambers at Stoke.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's right Dags . and the one previous to that was the home game (Villa again) at the start of last season (1-3) when he gave 2 dodgy pens. Not a good omen.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 19:39:46
So we got boro at home in the cup, let's hope there's no cupset there! Pretty happy with that draw though

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yep happy with that, we coulda got worse and were at home, onwards n upwards. Wembley Wembley :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Man mark bamford and we will be ok

Yummy yummy yummy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you there dags..

Is it the tan dags? It's got to be the tan :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags
Don't you think Lineker is turning into Jimmy hill with that chin tuft of hair

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 20:24:01
Ed,
Thought you was more of a Bella Emberg fan? :-)

You could be right Jegooner :-)

Welsh, how dare you Sir.
Lineker is a national treasure, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kirsty Gallagher for me, gorgeous and knows her football

Agree0 Disagree0

Wendy Hurrell the bbc weather reporter. search if you aren't sure who I mean

Agree0 Disagree0

Alex jones is epic. lovely bottom. great face and nice curves.

Really pleased the boy from Brazil has landed, now we can get on with placing the add in the unwanted items column.
FREE TO ANY KIND OF HOME GOOD OR BAD
ONE SELF FOLDING GIANT GERMAN.
Not good with heights and very timid in crowds

We can deliver today distance not a problem but very near neighbors would be very very welcome.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - love that G62..

Well I have to say I have liked him in more games, then disliked him
so I think he is a good player
Can any one get 100 caps and be a poor player in the German side.
62 we disagree again my old mate.i feel like were married

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny you should mention us being married mate, my missus is half Welsh.
But even she agrees on Count Duckula, he should get a job working for Becks Beer but not in the barrel or canning departments as he's most definitely a bottler

FC Twente Dortmund and Feyenoord have all made pre contract offers towards our young striker chub a akpom and despite Arsenal offering a new contract nothing has been agreed. Slightly disappointing considering his height and pace could lead to him being a powerful player and if he found his shooting boots the kid looks bright. does anyone now what the situation with him is regarding where his heart lies?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Presumably Chuba being offered a combination of large wedge and first team football. A real shame if we lose him but wtf he's got to get his nose in front of Danny W yet so no immdediate loss. Still think we should've extended his contract much sooner at least we could price him out of a move.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes been here since he was six, I suppose, its all down to what he thinks is best for him going forward, but the same goes for coq. I would hope we keep both and keep them happy.

Out of curiosity. how come the transfer window is open till the 2nd of feb?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jan 2015 18:24:44
Think it's because the 1st is a Sunday

Agree0 Disagree0

Fo real?

Thanks for clearing that up mgm

Agree0 Disagree0

Because the window runs from jan 1st to feb 2nd. so the shut date is monday the 2nd.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 16:44:58
Good win yesterday.
The transfer dealings look solid.
Assuming the Gabriel deal goes through, as looks likely, with Campbell going the other way and young Bielik brought in.
I feel much happier with Ospina in goal.
Thoughts on starting eleven if all players fit & available?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ospina, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Ramsey, Cazorla, Chamberlain, Sanchez, Giroud

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 18:01:08
From what I've been reading, it should be announced tonight or tomorrow.

I'd use the same player's that started against man City.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 20:28:08
As R89 but Gibbo for Monreal and I so want to put Theo in there somewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

Love giroud's hold up play but for me the speed of welbz makes us far more dangerous.

Welbz for giroud, Gibbs for monreal

Crazy we've dropped one of the best number 10's to the bench here but daaaam santi's earned it :)

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 16:05:46
Nice one gunner 62 - comments about the Phil was somewhere between pleasant irony and outright Sark!!
well posted

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Left to him Excilled mate the words skill talent brilliance genius and hansom wouldn't exist.
For me he is the unacceptable face of modern late night tv

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree G62 - strange how his brother who I detested every bit as much as a player is one of the few pundits who doesn't just paraphrase what other people say - has a real view, states it and is pretty spot on.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 16:00:52
337-just been out in the car - news on talk crap is that he already has the work permit.

If so is that a cracker or what?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - no..a cracker is a wafer like biscuit usually accompanied by cheese..

26 Jan 2015 17:05:56
My neighbour doesn't look like a wafer, but she's certainly a cracker.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - any photo,s of her naked on a harley?.. :)

Yeah it was good news but I'm guessing they knew they'd get it.

Ed a cracker is a tubular cardboard object with silly paper hat, a crap toy and one of dags jokes inside

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good stuff 337..

26 Jan 2015 17:56:25
I don't think the wife would be happy if I had some, but I know I would be:)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - damn!..

Predating all these dumb uses of the word Cracker. a very nice gentleman who was also a right goner used it as his signature.

Frank Carson- a real cracker

Agree0 Disagree0

If anyones got any photos of my misuss naked I'd love a look at them please, my short term memory is fine its anything over 6 months I have trouble remembering

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - join the club mate..

I've even told her I don't mind she's got fat and let herself go a bit the last few years to reassure her Ed even that hasn't worked.
What more can a bloke do I ask, I feel I've gone more than half way

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note -if compliments dont do the trick im stumped mate..

I am in the same club as ed G62, as it's also been over 6 months since I saw naked pictures of your missus as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

No pics g62 sorry, got some videos though!

Bellerin Gabriel Kos Gibbs

That defensive line is rapid :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would prefer:

Brentford GK :-)

Debouchy Paulista Kos Gibbs
Coquelin

Agree0 Disagree0

I know we are jumping too earlier for BFG to be replaced by paulista, but give the guy a break, he has been having to play with a different back 4 all the time and GK. I wouldn't expect any changes for the villa game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its going to have to be as they have to catch up to Theo, Ox and Sanchez in front of them! ;-))

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol red

I'm not asking to replace the BFG rigjt this second, I've got nothing but love for the guy, his experience is priceless.

Just saying that back four will catch up with anyone if they slip past ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Im with C. Nick, paulista, unless we have injuries, he doesn't look ready for first team this season, he will be for next. I also think he could be played at left back quite a few games. We will see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aha perfect then sorry for misreading

Agree0 Disagree0

So Steve, if Koz needs a break for his aching achilles or gets hurt you would seen Monreal as the CB and Gabriel at left back. Interesting take.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger will put monreal at center back ahead of paulista for a while. Nothing to do with opinion, its to do with experience. Monreal has played there with mert paulista hasnt. But in time that will change.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red it will be interesting, because I think, there is a good chance gibbs and kos could well be out together, on gibbs injury record.

Agree0 Disagree0

Should be interesting, too bad Debuchy is hurt would have liked to have seen a back line with Paulista LB, Chambers RB, Monreal CB and Debuchy CB - that would be so Wenger!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 12:38:08
can we all praise wenger please?

He did EXACTLY what we asked of him.

No haggling
Paid full buy-out
No youth player with ZERO experience

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yep well done AW, oh wait he has no work permit and no caps for Brazil.

Only joking, I will eat my hat if he doesn't get the permit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pleasantly surprised :) now I can't wait to see this kid in action, a no nonsense defender is exactly what we need.

Kos and gab will be a scary partnership for any forward.

Well done arsene. Thumbs up

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think its too late for this season. we needed a defender this season to fully challange.

iv never seen him play so can not comment on the kid. just hope he's better than andre santos

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 14:34:36
According to reports he's been granted his visa, so glad it's not another deadline day scramble.

Agree0 Disagree0

Permit granted, I was hungry too!

Agree0 Disagree0

DG Give the guy a break, I feel positive on this signing, and he is defo no Santos. And don't go on abt Santos my friend he scored in the 5-3 win against chelsea

Agree0 Disagree0

We haven't paid paulista buyout BTW. Deal 15mill Euros I'm told

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 18:03:55
Fair play to Wenger for splashing the cash on a player who will be a first choice player for a while. We would have been satisfied with Reid or Perrin as a stop gap.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 10:49:51
Should Rosicky be reported to the F A for passing without due care and attention? he obviously wasn't looking where the ball was going and really upset Phil Neville who would like to dive in with a two feet off the ground tackle on Rosicky as a punishment plus Ross Barkley and Ranaldo should they ever be seen doing the same or similar.
Seems Phil's sense of entertainment has deserted him since his own dazzling career as one of the games all time greats ended

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jan 2015 14:42:39
Don't think he's ever had anything good to say about arsenal, and I hate it when he's commentating, his voice is just irritating.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - hes butt ugly as well MgM.. :)

Rosicky is good looking, little mozart!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - looks like a lego character to me with that square head 337..

"Face for the radio" as they say :)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - you said it mate..

When he talks I just blank out, its weird because I find gary interesting, but phil just seems to drivel

Agree0 Disagree0

Gary was always the talented one Eden;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i can vouch for that dave..

62
That made me laff

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 09:36:26
Rosicky and Carzola both have to start against Villa along with Le Coq surely.
OK yesterday was about giving some players a well earned break and others a much needed game but Sundays team should be picked totally on form, which must also mean Monreal at LB.
Retaining your place when you do well and having to wait and really fight for your chance once you've lost your place is key to success imo.
Rotate in the cup and even CL if felt necessary but the premier league should be reserved for the premier performers only and let's build up that desire and competition to be in that elite group of premier league starting 11

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cazorla.

Agree0 Disagree0

No I think we have enough players Rob we don't need to buy any new ones until the summer if then mate

Agree0 Disagree0

The miss spelling of Cazorla was bugging me too but I like g62 so I left it

Agree0 Disagree0

Rosicky. such a talent. shame about his injurys and the amount of games he has missed.

top pro

Agree0 Disagree0

Who is this Cazorla fella? Spelling? What's wrong with my spelling?
I'll have you know I came 3rd in the school's under 7s spelling competition just last week, my wife and kids were so proud they wept openly as I collected my ribbon

Agree0 Disagree0

G62, you're forgiven don't worry but as for that stephen hughes on Arsenal TV, he gets paid and calls him Carzola repeatedly.

I also find it hard to believe that one of the questions in your under 7s test would have been "name a spanish footballer that looks like a hampster"

:-P

Agree0 Disagree0

Most of the dimwits - sorry pundits on the telly get Cazorla wrong and they get a shedload of cash for it.

Congrats on yor prise gunner62

steve r and G95,

Firstly a genuine apology if you felt I was either disrespectful or rude, I had no intention to offend either of you.

I truly wish we didn't have a Wenger in, Wenger out situation at the club but that is life and we all have opinions.

I appreciate you guys say what you see and I'm certain like me 99% of all those that want Wenger to stay see it too.

As an example, do I want to see Chambers played at right back again, ever, no I don't, would I like to see him remain on the bench for cover at CB, yes I would, did I like seeing Gibbs at one point playing as our CF, no not really, was I impressed with Giroud last night, was anyone impressed with Giroud last night, did we look like we went into practice match mode as Brighton were so poor at one point, yes we did, was I swearing at the TV, you bet I was.

So to me like Dags said, it's a Cup game, there are plenty now out of it who'd rather be in it.

There were plenty of positives, despite Ozil not looking like he's turned into a muscle bosun, he was still closing down players and looked to be buying into our latest style. Does he have a Cazorla performance in him, we wait and see. Walcott back scoring and Rosicky making us wish he was 10 years younger and maybe letting Podolski and Sanogo go was to move Akpom up the pecking order and of course we're still in the hat for Monday nights draw.

Finally I believe the next few weeks/months are going to be the most important ones of Wengers whole tenure at this club, he last week showed us what this team can do, what they are capable of and what we've all been waiting for.

If he doesn't build on that, if we go back to what we've seen for far to long then the chances are my breaking point and many others will have been reached.

As you said Steve, one swallow doesn't make a summer. Every one of us to a man I would suggest will now except nothing less than what we saw last week. THAT team can achieve things.

So please both of you, accept my apologies and see you on the bright side. :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Red dog apologies accepted. May the force be with you. Good post.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where's my apology?

I feel left out now

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry 337.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not from you steve, but thanks anyway i'll keep that in reserve

Thanks Steve, appreciated and can I also take this opportunity to apologise to you 337 for failing to apologise to you earlier. :-)

Apology accepted even though you've never needed to apologise to me for not apologising to me.

I had a tough childhood and just like to be included.

337 i'm sorry you had a tough childhood, but I don't mean sorry because it was my fault, just sorry and it wasnt my fault. I think, or don't think. Anyway sorry. I hope your adulthood makes up for it.

Hoping Ospina is back in go for our next match. he just doesn't inspire confidence. He looked uncertain when claiming the ball from set pieces in to the box. Last time he was dropped he came back fighting
Hope he does the same again.

Hi Eds,

Two questions.

First, with a few players having been in service of the club for close to a decade (was thinking of Tomas Rosicky in particular), how do testimonials work? Is it a lock for any player after ten years? Or do you have to be a "club legend"?

Secondly, with Campbell going on loan, and with Akpom still around, I was wondering if this bodes well for him. Can we expect him to become a regular in the years to come?

Thanks gents.

{Ed001's Note - the club has to choose to award one, which is pretty much automatic after ten years, though there is talk of scrapping them at Prem level due to the players being so well paid.

Akpom is highly rated but it depends on how he gets on. It might even hold him back not going on loan as he is unlikely to get as many chances to play.}

Akpom impressed me. the pace and power he has. atonbomb
