Jenks on loan to Hull would be perfect. I think Bruce would get a good season out of the corporal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jul 2014 21:01:30
Living in hull I love them, but they're more wing backs then rb's.
So we would not benefit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats a lot of money in helicopter fee's, well you can't expect him to actually live there can you? :-).
Sorry anyone from Hull it was just a joke, its a very friendly place I've been there a few times, every garden has a three piece suit in it and you can't get a better welcome than that can you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Be good for european experience too. However, I feel Swansea wouldn't be a bad idea, they play great football like us so would benefit him more in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Partyrash, Hull would be good as they play decent football and have some Europa league fixtures for him to gain some much needed experience!

Swansea would also be a good fit due to their attacking flowing football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not Arsenal related but good banter.

Louis Van Gaal has named Tom Cleverley as CAPTAIN in their friendly tonight.

Wayne Rooney amongst others is also starting. How much of an ego smash is that to wazza?

Hilarious!

Expect Rooney out after captaincy snub headlines followed by him signing a new deal for £500k a week!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Surely this is a wind up? Oh god that's hilarious if true! Maybe someone has realised what a fat useless slob Rooney is now!? If he'd put Rooney in his place I'd be happy for them to finish 2nd to us. Saying that I don't care who's 2nd as long as Liverpool finish as far down the table as possible. Horrible club.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 21:41:09
Feel sorry for Rooney?

Hmm? Nope

Agree0 Disagree0

CS it is completely true! Nearly fell off my chair laughing when I heard!

Dags, I will never feel sorry for Rooney. No way, no how.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2014 11:32:40
Looks like that really upset the fag and useless Rooney. He only scored a Worldy and make a beautiful assist for a Mata goal. Oh and a pen too.

Have been thinking about the CDM situation and who I want and carvalho stands out for me. He's moblie, strong and just a beast and can play at CB. If we don't get him I think bender would be my second choice. Can't say I've seen a lot of him but he must be good considering wenger has been chasing him for years. I don't really want the spyder (sorry dags) I just don't think he is that much of an improvement on what we've got and despite his impressive stats I don't think he is or could be a top quality player just a good one. Bender and carvalho on the other hand can see them becoming stars.

So if we get one of them I'd be ecstatic plus I think we have very good cover there. Arteta just tends to stroll through the smaller games but gets outpaced and looks weak against the big teams. Still think he's a good player and good player to have around the dressing room and flamini is flamini. Lol.

.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree about Schneiderlin. He's a good player, but not a top player in his position. He's not even in the France squad unless there are injuries.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 21:49:16
Agree where you are coming from SM but not entirely.

Of course, Carvalho would be great but I think Spyder, potentially would be as good.

The good thing about Arsene (and Arsenal) is they can sign a player who has potential and turn them into a player who achieves their potential.

Only difference is, now we don't sell them to our nearest rivals, domestically or abroad.

Khedira, Pogba, Bender and Carvalho are all great and would strengthen us no end, but so would Spyder.

Spyder for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 19:41:20
I think I am right in saying we actually recommended Schneiderlin to Southampton a few years ago, be funny if we ended up having him back

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jul 2014 20:11:34
Correct Bambam,

Apparently, Wenger has been trying to sign Schneiderlin for quite a long time now mate.

Let's hope he succeeds.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 19:40:26
Ospina been confirmed by Nice. Great job by Wenger he's had a great transfer window so far, Goes to show how much of a great job he had done when we didn't have the cash to splash! I take back any criticism I have given him over the last few years haha!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jul 2014 19:29:36
I know this might sound crazy, but could we possibly see Chambers used as a CDM? He's still yound and can play a "more advanced role". I know this means RM but DMs and fullbacks do often share many of the same attributes. I just think it's odd to have three rightbacks, even if one is sent out on loan because Wenger can't keep loaning out Jenkinson until Debuchy leaves in what will most likely be a few years.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not big enough or intimidating enough IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Claude Makélélé, one of, if not, the best in that position was 5' 7". CDMs don't have to be tall, just tenancious and good at passing. Don't rule anything out with Wenger.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 18:47:38
Ospina to Arsenal now confirmed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Call me suspicious but I think Arsene's going to try and actually win the premier league this season, if he does really sign a top DMF then there can be little or no doubt about it OUR 4TH PLACE TROPHY IS IN SERIOUS DANGER OF FINDING A NEW HOME

Agree0 Disagree0

I know. It feels a little strange but hugely exciting to have signings done before the first league fixture!

A top dm and Chambers and I will lump on Arsenal winning another trophy again this season!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 21:54:43
But I like our 4th place trophy.

Sulking now.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still feel we need another quality signing

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 18:10:33
Smart piece of business by Arsene Wenger but I think he has bought Chambers in to convert to a central defender I think he has seen something in the kid that is really special just a thought

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jul 2014 17:44:23
Wenger a few weeks ago said 'I will probably buy players from the French national team'
Debuchy is done. Remy has gone to Liverpool. Griezmann has gone to Athletico Madrid. I doubt Benzema will leave Real. Paul Pogba is currently in NYC, where Mr Wenger just so happens to be as well. Are the stars aligning?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't put them thoughts in our heads Mick! Surely too good to be true?

But then again, so was Sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 18:31:15
Slick,

If not Pogba, than Schneiderlin will do very nicely.

Bag it and tag it.

26 Jul 2014 16:44:44
Hi eds,
Was wondering about vidal, I know its unrealistic for arsenal to get him but curious when he said something along the lines of if I leave it won't be to manchester.

Are madrid/barca looking at him or what other options does he have?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Try the MU page.}

Everytime you spooners put on you ARSE shirts we are on the sleeves to remind you lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Listen pal, God loves a trier and seeing as I taught him everything he knows I'm willing to give you a chance. The patter you're coming out with is rank rotten, I know you're doing your best but the idea of banter is going right over your head, I don't want to block you but if you don't up your game and stop just trolling with childish nonsense, I will.}

26 Jul 2014 16:14:10
arsenal signing chambers will terrify the prem lge with sonogo and giroud upfront the likes of spurs and chelsea are very worried lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

At least you can laugh. Hold onto that ability for the coming season, it might stop you throwing the rope up.

one welsh left back is a terrific transfer window. It should stand you in good stead for the January window, when Levy will appoint someone else to lead you to failure

Agree0 Disagree0

With Soldado up front Spurs should be considered the real threat especially with Lamela on the wings. I mean Ozil, Sanchez and Ramsey are no worry

Agree0 Disagree0

Good luck with your back 4 this season mate. not sure who you will have there? maybe I could give you a nudge in the right direction. your best player will be off to barca. without vertonghen. . happy mid table mate

Agree0 Disagree0

They're a hell of a lot scarier than Soldado, Chadli and your new terrifying signing Ben Davies.

We don't have to worry Spurs. They should be more worried about Southampton and Palace. They're more in your league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you like your exciting signing their a credit to Mr levy and the spurs board, this new relationship you have with real madrid is working wonders

Ahhh, good old Arsene completely blindsides everyone with a left hook in the transfer window

That's a lot of cheddar to be spending on a player who will most likely be back up for a variety of positions this season & next but overall I for one am happy.

The years of austerity were tough to take and its amazing to think that only a few seasons ago, this transfer would have blown our club record fee out of the water. The fact that Wenger and the board are willing to part with this sum on 'potential' should be a clear indication to fans and opponents alike that Arsenal Football club are a force to be reckoned with.

I have a high opinion of Wenger. Like everybody he has his good points and bad points. One thing I have never doubted is his ability to spot a youngster that will be a star. Another is his fanatical approach to not blowing club money. Top that off with the level of quality players that come out of the Southampton Academy and all I see is a 16 million pound endorsement of how much Arsene rates this kid.

Hopefully he pushes on now and grabs us the no nonsense cdm we've been needing and Roberts your fathers brother :)

I love being a gunner!

I think that people need to remember that Debuchy is 29 years old, so it makes sense bringing in Chambers now rather than waiting for him to go for £30m next year. Yes it's a risk to pay £16m, but in a few years time, it will be him and Jenko fighting for the first team spot, with Bellerin breaking through not long after.

Away from the right-back position for a second. I think that, if we don't sign a striker, we should defintitely keep Campbell on this season, to provide cover for LW and ST, with Sanchez playing in one of those two positions. I think it would also be a mistake to get rid of Podolski. I can see Gnabry going out on loan, probably to the Saints.

CDM is a must. I don't think Khedira would have been ideal for that role, but he would've been nice. Carvalho would be my choice, but Spyder is looking to be the most likely. Bender would do a great job for us too.

I would be saddened to see Vermaelen go. He has been one of my favourite Arsenal players of recent years. I would rather see him go to Barca for about £8m, than United for around £10m.

Looking forward to the new season, provided a couple more join along with Chambers and Ospina.

That'll be all, me thinks.

I read an interview with Jenks early in the summer where he said even if he was 8th choice they'd have to drag him out of the Emirates screaming and shouting to get him away from Arsenal.
I don't want to lose a player who feels exactly the same as each and everyone of us do about our club.
KEEP JENKS A GOONER

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Completely agree g62! Everything I've ever seen or read about Jenks, shows me he's a top man. I hope he goes out on loan and then comes back ready to rumble next season.

Let's not forget that Wenger may just see Chambers as a future centre back.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 17:13:51
Agree G62,

If you ask him to play in goal he will.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope your right Dr Green mate I really do, give me a very good 100% committed player over a 50% committed supposed superstar any day of the week.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 17:23:57
Exactly what I was thinking Greeny, we must be telepathetic. Lol. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah dags I watch the spurs games on bt sport lol

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 22:04:41
Hoddle, funny enough your boys are on tele tonight, serious.

Agree0 Disagree0

He will go out on loan for a year or two to play regular football. Debuchy will be 31 by then. He will come back and fight with Chambers for his place. The person who could kill his arsenal career is Bellerin. If he keeps progressing like he is, he will be fighting with Chambers. We then may see Jenkinson move to CB. He has all the attributes to play there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chambers is 6ft and Jenks is 6ft 1 so although not the tallest, they could both end up playing in the middle. Koscielny is 6ft 1, so is Keown, so it's not inconceivable. That said, Adams and Bould are 6ft 4. Do Southampton have any tall centre-backs coming through?!

Loaning some of our players to them is the least we could do. It's a great club for any young player.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 15:05:16
Hello my little red comrades, do you know if the NYRB v Arsenal game will be streamed live on arsenal player? And if so what time is kick-off?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The arsenal game is not on tv there is no demand for it they only show big clubs pre season matches ah that's why all spurs games are live LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

There will be no shortage of streaming sites showing the game so no need for panic.

I hear you Banbury, but is he being moved on or is it his last chance to convince Arsene that he too can do like Chaimbers/Shaw/Davies and get 25+ premiere league games at a mid table club.

I hope the kid can get game time at Upton Park or whever he is off to (on loan I hope) while we have 2 premiere leaugue RB's, one in his late 20's and the other in his late teens.

Dags, I've been away from the site for a while, having two babies in two and a half years keeps me busy, but I've seen people joke about you being Malaga, have I missed something? Are you? I was one of the few that genuinely liked him/you back then lol.

I feel for Southampton. Really. can't we loan them Joel, Zelalam, Sanogo. It'll give thm BPL experience plus help thm out. That brings me to a.

Question for eds
Is it possible a team in th premier league would make them(Soton as they lost so many quality players at ones) a feeder club?
Secondly, which teams have thought bout doing it with a fellow premier league team recently?
Thanxxxx

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jul 2014 16:50:49
I believe you can't have a feeder club in the same league as yourself

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There are many restrictions on loans.}

You cannot loan two players from the same club in the premier league.

Agree0 Disagree0

You can't have one in the same league and there is no need to feel sorry for Southampton

Making multimillion pound profit margins on players they either developed or bought for very little is exactly where they want to be.

Rebuilds are risky but they've brought in an experienced manager and have the dough to maintain premier league status.

Its poor Portsmouth fans I feel for. That must be hard to watch lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is nearly 50 years old and won't be joining Arsenal.}

Never expected the Callum Chambers swoop.

If it happens, I'm excited. (Not now Mrs Dags, I'm not that excited).

Look's like a good little player, can play RB and Centre half.

Great signing Arsene, now snap up his mate Monsieur Schneiderlin and I will be very excited. (OK Mrs Dags, I'm very excited now).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do you reckon the SK deal is dead?, odd chat about him lowering his wage demands.

I'm not too sure about chambers 16mil he's not even first choice right back at Southampton not seen me much of him.is he simmilar to Shaw? I don't think We will get 16mil for vermaelen so the price is too high we could of got more experienced player for the price also hope we don't get shneiderlin the 25mil asking price is way ttoo much for him prefer bender or even wanyama thought he had a decent start to the season he's the kinda player I think we need strong solid midfielder.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he displaced Clyne towards the end of last season. He's a solid young player, and as much as it pains me to say it, he is an upgrade on Jenkinson.

£16m is too much, granted, but he will be a star. England's future RB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed

Agree0 Disagree0

He is English which means the price is always going to be higher than normal. But for 16 million he could turn into our next centre back for 10 years or more. he can play RB and CB. so number wise that helps us massively. a very shrewd piece of business. and captain of England under 21s I believe. That could be a legend in the making. Have to feel sorry for the Saints though. Produce all that talent and then lose it, hope they do well.

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt we will even get 12mil for tv5 mate. clubs would prefer to wait a year and gamble on getting him on a free.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 12:51:40
Feeling bad for Southampton Fans. Looks like we are getting chambers n possibly schneiderlin. Reminds me of our 2008 window when flamini, hlebs n co left when we wre trying to rebuild after v sold henry in 07. Maybe they should bring a new rule that u can't buy more than 3 players frm a club in a single window! that being said ill be overjoyed if we get chambers n schneiderlin! Lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jul 2014 12:00:34
Jack Wilshere,

As if this hasn't been done to death but it's so easy to get a perception of a person and stick them in a category and then believe every piece of drivel written by the gutter press.

Banbury you held up Gerrard and Lampard as examples, neither are saints and have featured in the press for various things, Lampard has just apologised to his new fan base for an incident that occurred some years ago.

Not even Beckham has managed a career in football unscathed.

A prime example of how the press work is Tulisa, not by any stretch has she shown herself in a great light but has just proved the press stitched her up, so what do they do, publish an article with the most hideous picture of her they can find. Quality.

So Jack is out in a club and a girl gets a broken elbow, we have no idea what comments led Jack to become involved or do or say what he did, but let's believe anyone but him.

He says he is in rehab for his injury, personter goes viral that it's rehab from drugs, let's believe that shizzle too.

He is young, he is undoubtedly rich, he has talent, he gets caught enjoying himself in a pool party, stupidly either simply drags on a fag or actually smokes, people smoke in every walk of life, does anyone recall Didi Hamann saying how he asked Rafa for a cigarette in the changing rooms after their Champions league win.

Did the press or Liverpool supporters get their arses in their hands over that.

Jack has undoubted talent in my honest opinion, that's why fans of other teams have wanted him in their side.

He warrants to chance to get well and truly the other side of his injuries and become an Arsenal great. Arsene is the person to guide him and ensure this happens.

This season in my opinion will see Jack in and out of the team whilst he rebuilds confidence and form and I really think that if that happens he will be back big time next season. :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good Post Jen

My point is and I will add Becks to that is their careers were long and very successful ones with many high performances even from an early age, Becks even more so, the spotlight he has been under for 20 odd years is like no other . At this present moment in time I cannot see Jack getting anywhere near them. The social side of his life was just a small % of his problem the other is as I have mentioned is the fact that he has glass ankles, his game doesn't suit his body ( if you no what I mean ) he will always be injured .

Maybe a move to a slower tempo type of football will suit? But as we are here and now, he has a million miles to go.

In my opinion

Of course :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Jen Jen he will be amazing I just cannot see how anyone can see it

Agree0 Disagree0

Why will he suddenly stop being injured Maidstone, have you had a look at his stats of games played/ goals scored . He doesn't play that many games and the fact that fans keep talking about a goal against that footballing powerhouse of Norwich says it all really.

He is more likely to be another Diaby than anyone else.

Time will tell of course but history tells me I am more likely to be right than you. He might have a decent season and he might score 5 goals ( yippeeee ) but he needs to do it the following season and the season after

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 13:36:22
Great post Jenjen,

But I'm going to ride side-saddle with Banbury on this one (sorry Ed025).
Because Jack hasn't exactly set the Prem alight with his football, people look at his off-field activities for the reason why.

Prime example, George Best.
The man was an absolute hell raiser, spent more evenings in nightclubs than Peter String-vest, smoked more fags than a bunch of naughty school kids behind a bike shed and just lived each day as it came.

Now, he was a little bit before my time, but from what I have seen/read/heard, was an absolute star on the pitch.

If Jack up's his game, and despite what is written on here, we all hope he will, all his off-field shananagins will be forgotten about.

C'mon Jack, be the player we want you to be.

Excuse me Maids,

I'm the only person who call's Jen 'jenjen'.

Behave Custard Boy, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi jenny as younsay Gerrard lampard and Beckham all got in the headlines for the wrong reasons but there are two major differences imo, those three shone so brightly on the pitch that it was soon there problems off it were soon forgotten and they kept their heads down and away from controversy to help take the pressure off themselves.
My problem with Jack is not lack of performance so much as constant tweets and photos of him doing stuff the club would rather he didn't do or say in public.
Add to that every time he's tackled he looks at the ref for a free kick for 30 seconds where as when the Ox loses the ball he's chasing back winning it immediately.
I hope he shoves my words back at me 2014/15 season I really do

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate Jack is at the beginning of his career but the injuries are his biggest hurdle and I read recently that his body shape suited his style of play and compared his body shape to that of Cruyff, all be it that Jack is shorter.

So I don't really know if he will be injury plagued but only time will tell us that. I also get frustrated with the falling over moaning stuff but that I think is more down to frustration as he is yet to feel 100% fit and confident in himself again and to produce your best you have to be.

I just want him given the time, not to feel like it's obvious how Ramsey felt prior to last season and as fans that were behind him.

Maybe I'm too soft :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

That is exactly my point G62, those 3 are poles apart from Jack in all aspects of the game.

Someone posted on here earlier that we are hoping Jack fails . . nonsense, he is a talented boy, but mentally on and off the field he needs to wise up

I know everybody on here wants Wenger to sign a CDM, but for me the key question is, does he see it as a key position. I am not so sure. In the past we have had only Gilberto and Song in a CDM type role, and both we're let go. When Arsene looks back at his best ever midfield, Viera and Petit, neither were CDMs. Instead both shared defensive and forward responsibilities, which seems much more a style that Wenger likes, I.e. Intelligent skillfull footballers who communicate. So I guess we will find out shortly, but whoever we sign I doubt (and hope) it won't be a player based purely on his tackling stats, but instead an intelligent footballer who will compliment what he already has, ie someone who will fit alongside Ramsey. For me we were linked with one player who IMO fits that role perfectly, Khedira. When we were linked with him I was as excited as for the Sanchez signing. Sadly it doesn't look like it's going to happen, but I thought he would compliment Ramsey perfectly, just like how he partnered with Kroos for Germany (he sits in the right hand CM spot which I think compliments Ramsey, who like Kroos for Germany, tends to sit in the left hand slot). Also Kedira has been there seen it done it in the Spanish league at a massive club, and as a result would have been a signing that, following on from Sanchez, would really make the footballing world sit up and fear what we are building. No offence to Schenderling but will the good peoples of Milan or Barca really take much notice if we signed ultimately just a good premiership player? Anyway as I said it's just a pipe dream now anyway, and hopefully whoever does come as long as they wear the red and white shirt with pride I guess that's the key.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Petit was a defensive midfielder mate, he has said so himself. He was a central defender that Wenger played in front of the defence as extra insurance to allow the wide players and full backs more freedom. I had a long chat with Wenger once about footie, obviously, and he told me how it was one of the most crucial positions in the game. This was a long time ago now though, so his thinking might have changed.}

26 Jul 2014 12:15:47
Good post and I do agree the role you're saying khedira would've been a perfect fit. However I do think we need a tough tackling dm

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that makes a lot of sense Ed001 and it must be said also that a certain Mister Vieira playing with him helped the team offensively an defensively regardless of exact positions.

The DM role is still vital for sure but like football, it has changed. Similar to CB these days they need to be very comfortable on the ball, passing, etc. So I can see Wenger getting a DM but not a bruiser. He loves Arteta and his game (I don't think he has it anymore ) but i'm sure Wenger is looking at Schneiderlin and thinking he could have a ready made replacement

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think we dare go to Anfield, the etihad or boot sale stadium again without one D

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair using the Germany example, Kroos and Khederia did have the magnificent Schweinsteiger behind them. I suppose it's asking too much for us to sign both Schenderling and Khederia!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 11:20:17
AW please sign a CDM

Happy for Diaby and Jack to have their chances in the team as we are all Gooners plus I really like Jack. He just needs to stop believing all the hype, stay on his feet and let his football skills not his mouth or actions do the talking

For years AW has been criticised for not adding players because it stops others progressing. I back the manager to do the right thing for the CLUB in the short and longterm as he has done that so far despite all the crap he took while balancing the books during the tight years following the move

We are lucky he put up with it and did the right thing fir OUR CLUB rather than HIS EGO.

Now we have a trophy and cash and a great manager at our GREAT CLUB.

I for one felt honoured to watch some of his great teams over his tenure and excited about the one he is piecing together now. He has my complete backing and faith - I believe he wants a CDM and that makes the team / squad complete.

Come on you Gunners - a huge season ahead. Let's stay united in victory and support every member of the squad and back room. Let's be the 12th man at every game and cheer them on in good / bad times.

Here's to another trophy :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I totally agree SY4 we should give every player who goes onto the pitch for us 100% support regardless of our own personal feelings towards some players.
I want Jackie boy to make me eat every word of criticism I have ever written about him, I will be very happy in my obesity.
But should he continue to under perform on the pitch and over indulge off it be it stupid twitter talk, fags or whatever I will continue to dislike him for being a terrible waste of talent

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 10:51:36
Should also add 16,000,000 is an awful lot of money for someone with just 25 PL appearances

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jul 2014 11:28:20
Everyone is entitled to their own views but mate why are you so negative. Arsene thinks he is good and worth 16m why question it. Not like arsene hasn't shown he knows what he is on about. And to be honest 16m is what it COULD reach. And for a young impressive English player it's about normal

Agree0 Disagree0

We paid a lot for oxlaid chamberlain. He hasn't done too bad.
Luke Shaw has hardly played above premier league level. A few england caps (meaningless games) and he's being sold for 30m+
Makes chambers look a bargain.

Agree0 Disagree0

My point is we can splash that sort of money out for a lad who has only played 25 PL games, no CL experience, a player in a position that very rarely influences a game, but yes needs to be solid. Yet we won't go the extra few million when it comes to getting a seasoned player with CL matched behind him and WC experience.

Why question it?

ERmmmmmmm I am a fan who has put money into the club even before anyone had heard of AW, I am entitled to question it.

As are you and everyman and his dog who support Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with D. 12-16mill seems to be the norm for the "average" english teen.
I like the kid, especially if he or Jenko should convert into mobile 6ft plus centre halves.
Its imperative that we have solid home grown defenders. I don't know what ed25 thinks but I bet whoever pries Stones away from Goodison Park will fork out 20mill+

Agree0 Disagree0

How much did we pay for oxlade chamberlain, the league one player?

Agree0 Disagree0

Trouble is WR, Jenks is likely to be moved on .

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 13:25:05
You're well within you're right to question things yea I'm not saying you shouldn't. But I don't understand why people like yourself are so negative. And I don't mean that horribly. We're close to signing a highly rated English youngster for 16m. Would you rather wait a year until he plays a few games and that figure doubles like shaw.

Agree0 Disagree0

Akie

We paid 12,000,000 quid, but please understand what I am saying, Chambers is a Right Back who will not influence a game like an attacking Chamberlain

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 14:41:40
He won't move jenks on perminantly. Just loan. I reckon jenks chambers someone else and Gibbs will be our future back 4. i'd like stones also

Agree0 Disagree0

A solid defence is just as important as exiting attack. You'll get nowhere with neither and everywhere with both.

Agree0 Disagree0

D16

Take you point but I feel the money can be best spent elsewhere we have 2 x RB's .

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunatley banbury. welcome to todays market. I have to say though that there is a lot more attention and big money spending on "potentially good players" these days. not the same as it was.

football = money

think were going to have to get use to the above equation.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 16:57:15
I do see your point it does seem a lot but this is a prime example of why clubs go abroad. English players cost far too much. And look at the unproven English players arsene has spent big on theo ox chambers. I would say he only does it when he sees something special. So we shouldn't get all funny about the fee and be excited! As I said understand where people are Coming from.

If Chambers arrives where does that leave Jenks?
I'll be absolutely gutted for him if he's forced out, I know its called progress but he's never had a chance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree G62, I quite like Jenks, English for starters plus I think he could convert to CB if needed, is Chambers really that much better for that sort of money?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think jenks is good enough, he's had a fair amount of chances but to me he looks out of his depth against the better teams , looks like he try's to hard to me as well , great engine on him but for me he doesn't quite cut it, bellerin looks better prospect for me so with chambers and bellerin the future looks good down the right when Debouchy goes

Agree0 Disagree0

He might not be to start but 16,000,000 is an awful lot of money for a RB who hasn't played at the highest level

Agree0 Disagree0

He's no trouble off the pitch and always gives 100% on it, is a gooner through and through and a top top bloke.
So yeah I'm a bit biased towards him and I know loyalty and sentimentality doesn't win Premier league titles so its a good job I'm not our manager I guess

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with you G62.Players develop differently, not all on the same track. We've seen 'late developers' in their mid and late 20s come good and become quality players. Especially defenders, who take time to understand the position at the top level and where mistakes are more visible. Kos took a couple of years to come top and we got him at 25(?). I think Jenks has it in him and I hope I'm right for all the reasons you said.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought so as well G62

He is a very good squad, I don't see Monreal being any better than Jenks . But I guess to progress he will want regular first XI football

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 07:56:58
I'm an outsider, but have 'followed' you guys for years.

But from the outside; really don't think you need another st at all, giroud and Sanchez will be first team: theo, pod's, Campbell could all fit in there (definitely not sanogo).

But, to the point. Isn't LB your weakest position. NM isn't good enough and KB (who I like) seems to struggle between being a lb and lm?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Monreal isn't good enough IMO but I think most of us are in agreement that Gibbs is, competition wouldn't go amiss for the LB spot though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Monreal is easily good enough as a back up imo. There aren't many players of his quality that would be willing to be a back up. Gibbs is great and will hopefully be our left back for many years.

Agree0 Disagree0

LBs seem to be ridiculously expensive this window, united paid 27 mil for an 18 yo who has great potential, but we all know it might not be fulfilled and Chelsea paid 20mil for a 29yo(when the season starts) who might take time to get up to speed in the premier league, and has no resale value, not sure who got the worse deal really

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 13:30:32
Yeah, but evra for 1.2 is great value, cole for free. Hate both as players but represent decent value. Wages might be shocking, but shaw is reportedly on a fortune.

As I said I like Gibbs, but just think if you want to be more than fourth, he should be the quality young back up to a world class player.

?

Agree0 Disagree0

We could've done a lot worse than taking Davies that Spurs just signed. 10 mill for a LB to compete with Gibbs would've been a bargain imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 07:49:56
A few points here.
If wenger quotes are to be believed and ospina Is definitely on his way, this a great signing.
I'm also pleased at the prospect of chambers, versatile with lots of potential, hopefully the fee is at the lower end of what's been suggested of anywhere between 7-16 million. He is only 19 and largely unproven at the very highest level.
New rumours of TV going to Barcelona. I would much prefer he stay and fight for his place but would rather he go to barca than utd if he does move.
Does anyone else else have a bit of sympathy for Southampton?
One great season and losing all their best pplayers I have a lot of respect for them and the way they bring players through so hopefully they won't struggle too much this season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Absolutely Bacon. I for one definitely feel sorry for the poor Southampton fans, especially seeing as little of their money has been used for purposeful signings. I'd like TV5 to stay with us to be honest. He didn't prove once last season that he deserved a starting 11 spot, and the fact that he's captain of the club says a lot. Also the fact that Barca and ManUtd are looking at him shows that he has far more to give then what has been the case over the last 2 seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

You'd have to be a Portsmouth fan or have a heart of stone not to feel sorry for them.
I think their DOOMED, Doomed I say even before a ball is kicked

Agree0 Disagree0

They ( So'ton ) are also collecting an awful lot of money and have done so in the past. Haven't they just sacked some of the scouting team also?

Agree0 Disagree0

They aren't doomed.

just will sink to the championship and get even more money.

remember they still have one of the best youth setups in the world

Agree0 Disagree0

They did have a fantastic youth set up but that has been changed. . I think

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Too overrated IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 08:51:59
Surely he would have two prices: Everton (or any other club £18m) arsenal: £25m.

Agree0 Disagree0

They wouldn't sell to us even if we did want him so its a non starter unfortunately.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not worth £18 IMO.

He scored the same amount as Giroud, would rather have Balotelli. And Arsene has said no more ST will come in.(if you can trust him)

Agree0 Disagree0

He scored the same amount as Giroud as is only 21, easily worth £18 million. Can't see him coming to us though.

He is a Beast!
He is good in the air!

So Chambers and Schneiderlin - very interesting. BBC as a source says it's all legit and in talks.

Regarding Jack Wilshere,

'a staple of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn't become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent. He's weak. he's unsure of himself. he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race'.

I remember watching the game vs Barcelona where he was the only Arsenal player on the pitch. Wilshere is Superman quit pro quo?

And no, I'm not high. L8trs

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - a very interesting read that OB..

Granted, every-so-often Jack comes out with a magic moment such as the goal against Norwich. But those moments are few and far between. He does bring something different however, and its quite an innovative technique. But as a cdm to be fouled more than he fouls is nothing short of a master stroke. The trouble with Jack is that he's a CM. Not a Dm and not really an AM. And I can't see how it fits to us in the long run.

Arsenal squad is really taking shape

GK - Woj / Ospina
RB - Debuchy / Chambers
CB - Per / Kos /? / Chambers
LB - Gibbs / Monreal
DCM -? / Arteta / Flamini
CM - Rambo / Wilshere / Zelalem
AM - Ozil / Cazorla / Rosicky
LW - Sanchez / Gnabry
RW - Theo / Ox
ST -? / Giroud / Sanogo

Rumoured budget of £100m,
Budget spent so far = -(12+3+35+15) = £35m
plus Vela/Fabregas +£15m = £50m
plus Poldi / Campbell / Jenko / Vermaelen +£40m leaves ~£90m remaining.

DCM - Carvalho (£35m)
CB - Hinteregger (£10m)
ST - Reus or Martinez (£30m)

Boom! Sign them up Wenger

{Ed025's Note - not a doctor of mathematics i see then rog.. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

The Doctor's maths look fine to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aman he is removing those numbers from 100.

100 - (12+3+35+15=65)

100 - 65 = 35.

Rog hasn't shown his working too well, but the eds note was more to do with not spending the entire amount i'm sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 04:07:04
First off hats off Amano you absolute ITK legend.

Calum Chambers is an awesome signing imho.

Was honestly a little underwhelmed by Debuchy signing but this makes up for it.

And I don't think the fee is too high. This is a player who at nineteen displaced another very good Rb at Southampton and had some excellent performances against the top sides on the league, including against us.

Just hope we sign a top Cb aswell AND a midfielder - Ginter and Carvalho would do very nicely indeed.

Man I don't think I could control myself if that happened.

(ps as a side note on the Jw thing - anyone who WANTS Jw to fail is not a gooner - as fans were entitled to critique and we are just saying what we see - it happened with Rambo last year and although I never had a bad word to say about him I'll happily eat humble pie if Jack does turn out to be good this year)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think anyone wants him to fail, people just don't see what others do, simple as that .

It is called opinions, we all have them, we have different ideas. which is why debates are so good

If by the end of the transfer window are signings are sanchez, debuchy, ospina, chambers, a decent cb to replace vermaelen (my preference is nastasic but unlikely)
and one of schneiderlin/bender/khedira/carvalho (preferably schneiderlin) then I say we would have had a really good window and a really strong squad heading into the new season.

judging by the current transfer rumours this also looks extremely likely to be the case, exciting times fellow Gunners

This topic has been discussed before, but, as he's again linked with us in the media, I wanted to again talk about Balotelli. If he's actually available at the prices quoted (€20m), I would snap Galinari's arm off to take him. Now, I know the argument against, potentially disruptive to team harmony etc. But, for me it can go the other way too, where our team harmony helps him to learn and grow. Remember, he is only 23. In our squad, I think he would develop and learn the right way to behave from guys like Per, Abou, Aaron etc and become the goalscoring gem every football expert knows he could be. Also, we need another CF, yes, not as much as a DM, but still a necessity. We only have Giroud and Sanogo up front, with wide men who can fill in there also.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would absolutely hate to see Balotelli come here. I'm a HUGE fan of Italian football (Juve are my second team and I love them alot) and other than his well known attitude problems, Balotelli is very over-rated. For startets he's a big game flop, he very rarely scored or played well against the top teams and usually sees his name on the booking list instead of the scoring sheet. His slightly above average goal scoring record is very mis-skewed due to a large portion coming from penalties and a few freekicks as well, and he has a very low chance conversion rate of 13%. His decision making is suspect, preferring to to try and take players on when a simple pass would be much better. He's also not as technically proficient as some would believe with few of his take ons coming off. RANT OVER :P

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 02:32:16
Hey Eds,
Firstly, a huge thanks for all the effort you lot put in. It is MUCH appreciated. With the Chambers deal set to go through, will we be in for a CB too, if/when TV goes? Also, given AW comments regarding not needing anyone else up front, is this a classic Wenger decoy? Do you see us moving for another CF or a wide player to free up Sanchez to play CF? Keep up the good work guys, cheers!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - if TV goes, a replacement will definitely be bought, Chambers is covering the 4th cb and back up rb roles. On the st I don't see it mate unless something good comes up, as Wenger keeps hinting at, Sanchez is the cf imo with Giroud and Campbell providing cover

Pogba is a great player, but I can never justify that price being quoted for him. William Carvalho is only a year or two older and would be just as beastly for us. We could buy Carvalho twice, with change, for the price of Pogba.
