We have just re signed a player who can't get a starting place, can't even get in front of xhaka and is a bench warmer. Says it all really.

26 Mar 2018 22:29:47
But he's cheap Steve.

Probably only get's a measly £40,000 per week.

Now I agree with you post apart from the very last bit. He’s a very happy benchwarmer who puts in a shift and is disaplined. You need the odd player like that. A utility player with a good attitude is what he is. Once we improve the team the bench will improve.

Seriously - we extend contracts and people moan, we don’t and they moan then we offer a tougher deal to an I jury prone player with a great talent but a poor attitude and we moan. - do we just moan!
Can we get a moaners page like the team page and a rise tinted glasses page so you can pick your poison?

Elney cost us 5 million and is now worth?
Xhaka and Mustafi cost us 34 million and are now worth?
It's far from the worse contact we've given out and although the lad will never win a premier league title he's full of effort.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Mar 2018 00:22:04
Sy, you moan, i'm stating a fact, the guy is not good enough for a new contract. he's bang average at best and that's not often. We should be outing players who aren't good enough, not rewarding them.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Mar 2018 01:13:59
Steve your comment a bit harsh mate, El neny is a very good squad player and he plays his heart off whenever he is on. He is far from the best and what we need but still a good squad player to have. I can’t recall he’s been at fault much whenever he played. And you can’t have the starting 11 and the sub all messi and ronaldo.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Mar 2018 07:17:47
Xhaka And mustafi cost us nearly £70 million g62 😂. Steve who would you like to be on the bench?

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Mar 2018 07:34:52
I could play my heart out every game but it doesn't make me good enough! I like the kid personally. His eagerness to make forward runs and his work rate is brilliant. However, his quality is poor and is far from the sort of player a club like Arsenal needs in their midfield!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Mar 2018 08:10:13
Elneney like Perez should never have been signed by a top premier league club neither were of that quality to begin with.
Xhaka and Mustafi were both quite highly rated before they arrived but like all our signings of the last 5 years baring Sanchez have become much worse players at Arsenal than when they arrived.
Given the state of our squad what else could we do but give Elneney a new contract? On what we've seen in an Arsenal shirt he's far better than Xhaka at Arsenal and Iwobi too.
If we let every player go who wasn't good enough for a premier league challenge we wouldn't be able to put together a 5 aside team and that really isn't an exaggeration of how poor we are.
I challenge anyone to name 5 players who would get in the Spurs or Liverpool starting 11? Ok 4 then? What about 3? Anyone?

{Ed001's Note - what do you mean should never? They weren't! ;-)

27 Mar 2018 09:01:21
Very good point Ed, it's me age mate :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - oh shoot sorry, I was being ageist not taking into account your many years on the planet. It must be all this time editing the Arsenal site, I am being corrupted by the rampant ageism you all display!}

27 Mar 2018 09:25:19
We are an old bunch there is no getting away from it Ed mate but only Saga can remember Spurs being champions, apparently it really did happen.
It's just a shame moving pictures weren't around at the time to capture it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Sanogo must be as old as Ed025 then! He remembers talkies.}

27 Mar 2018 09:44:38
That's nothing, Dags was the resident piano player at the Romford Odeon during the Charlie Chaplin films.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that I do believe. Maybe he could join Ed025's band. They could call it the Flintstones as they were all born in the stone age.}

27 Mar 2018 10:15:59
A rock band then? :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - oh god even I never sank so low as to use that 'gag'.}

The reason Al Ninny shouldn't get a new contract is, he shouldn't have been signed in the first place. Like many others, who are holding this club back.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Mar 2018 17:01:21
Thoroughly disagree with that Steve. We will never have 22 worldies in the squad. Every bride needs bridesmaids, and that is exactly what Elneny is for us. He is not a name that should be regularly in the starting XI i agree, but as a squad/ sub he is perfect. He is an international, cost only 5mil, and i would say he is worth considerably more now, unlike Xhaka. He seems happy to be in the squad, works his socks off when he plays, and covers a few different positions. Again, given a different manager, who knows what more he could offer? Personally, i would prefer to keep him in the squad and let wilshire go. For me its not Elneny holding the club back, its quite simply our first XI. let's be honest, if our central midfield pairing was Kongogbia and Jorginho, i am sure you would be more than happy for Elneny to be in the squad as cover!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Mar 2018 18:59:37
EG, we aren't going very far signing players for the bench, with sitting on the bench quality. For me his ambition must be questioned, if nothing else and arsenals. He has been at the club 2 years and has never looked like becoming a starter. He obviously is a good quiet professional, who gives us no problems. Is he going to help us of the bench, i doubt it. Our ambitions are being brought into question again. Wenger says he only buys players who can improve us. Perez, Gabriel, Cambell and Al ninny, don't fit that bill.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Mar 2018 13:56:39
That's my point Steve, its not these type of players we need to worry about, its the quality of our starting XI that needs improving. For me, the only question over Elnenys role in the squad is; Is he holding back the promotion/ develoment of our own youngsters? If by giving Elneny a new contract means the likes of Mainland-Niles and Rene-Adelaide are held back playing in their preferred positions, then by all means let him go, but currently, as our 3/ 4th choice CM, for me, he contributes more positives than his cost. Who's sitting on the bench, and their reasons for doing so will never win us any competitions, but our starting XI will. For me, picking up players for a snip such as Elneny should just mean we have more in the budget to go out and get these "top top" players Arsene talks about so much for our starting XI. Sadly it is here where we are being badly let down. As for being happy being on the bench, who knows if Elneny is or not, but surely that's still better than having a player on the bench who is ultimately not good enough for the starting XI, except in his own mind, where he believes he is the star of the team and so becomes massively disruptive when he doesn't get picked?

Not a great time to be an Arsenal and England fan right now is it :-) .
Haven't watched an England game since the Iceland game.
Euro 96 was brilliant but as the home nation we had to be up and at it really didn't we, but for me my best memories of England are still Italia 90 and since then ever tournament on foreign soil has been a let down.
I hope I might get into this world cup as it gets closer but as we speak I won't be missing goggle box to watch any England games that's for sure :-) Giles Mary and the Siddiqi family are just to strong for Gareth and co to contend with.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i love goggle box G62..

26 Mar 2018 20:53:21
Watching England is a bore and i can't see it getting much better playing the world cup in Russia. It hasn't got that appeal like say Brazil, Italy or Mexico. i'm probably getting old but football is losing its appeal to me, no real characters and money ruining the game, making everyone greedy and selfish.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Well Steve, I think there is a lot of sympathy unless you are a real international team supporter - as most international sides are method type sides (Germany as a good example), just on the edge sides (like England, France and Italy), successful but not entirely sure why (Spain), or flair (Brazil, Argentina on occasion ...) but with mixed results but often better to watch. So frustrating I can understand.

I also fear the backlash here on the website on July 7 after England get beaten on penalties by Germany and Wilshere's "I wish I had been born Scotch" statement that follows.}

26 Mar 2018 21:28:55
Ha ha Ed, the rest i think is right but that last bit, nah never. Lol.

Hi Ed025 mate, google box is my favourite programme on the telly.
Me and the missus wouldn't watch it for years as we couldn't see how watching other people watching telly was going to be fun at all, how wrong were we :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i love it mate, jenny and lee are my favourites..

26 Mar 2018 22:04:40
I think we can safely look forward to another rendition from Jack of " its happen again " as England arrive home well before the latter stages :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Mar 2018 22:42:42
Lee's expressions everytime Jenny opens her mouth are priceless mate :-)
I never would have thought such a concept could make unmissable tv but it's absolutely brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i thought the same at first mate but i have to admit...its great telly..

27 Mar 2018 07:39:31
England have so much talent but they need to play the right formation with the right players! Kane, Sterling, Rashford and Vardy are more than enough to cause a problem up top but when you're playing Hendo and Dier together in the middle it will never amount to anything! All they do is slow the game down with constant sidewards passing of the ball!

Stones has to stick it out at City if he is ever going to be all he can be.
The 50 million price tag isn't his fault and under Pep he stands his best chance of reaching the highest level he is possibly capable of achieving in football.
If he runs away from the challenge he will simply become just another premier league player else where but if he gives it 2 more seasons after this one he could still become one the world's elite defenders.
The lad has real potential to be a class act and working with the best is his best and only hope of ever being all he might be in the game.
Have any of city's promising young English buys ever done any good elsewhere after leaving city?
Stick it Stones lad it's your only option.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but he can't defend and is vastly overrated. Stones simply is not good enough for a top club.}

26 Mar 2018 09:29:22
But where does he go from City Ed mate?
James Milner is off the top of my head the only English former city player who simply hasn't just disappeared after leaving City.
You could write a book about all the young English buys that go city and just completely vanish from the football radar afterwards.
Pep must have seen something in him to buy him and that's what Stones has to hang onto and keep going the alternative is to become yet another WHERE ARE THEY NOW former man city english player.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Pep doesn't buy players. He tells them what type of player and position he wants and has input in the narrowing down the list, but that is all.

As for rest, there is a reason they vanish, it is because they bought badly. Dross like Sinclair etc were just not good enough, Stones is the same. He needs to work with a manager who will teach him to defend, such as Pulis or Dyche. Players should have coaches who teach them the basics before they move to work with the likes of Pep. Same as the Arsenal back four that learnt their jobs under George Graham and were then given freedom to play under Wenger. That worked because they had the basics drummed into them and could go and play. If they had worked with Wenger first, then Graham, it would not have worked for them. That is what Stones has done. He has gone to Wenger, when he needed Graham.}

26 Mar 2018 09:43:03
Fair point on the Graham/ Wenger analogy Ed mate.
Personally I had high hopes for Stones when at Everton and it would be such a waste to see yet another English player simply vanish after going to city without making it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it just amazes me that City did not see how bad he is at basic defending and look elsewhere. Their scouting set up has not been well run at all. With the amount of money the club has had thrown at it, they should have had a team that dominated the league from almost day one, no matter who was in charge.}

26 Mar 2018 10:29:48
And there in a nutshell has to be the reason Mustafi, Kolasinac, Holding, Chambers and Bellerin have gone backwards.

And what exactly does Steve Bould do, apart from say “Yes boss”.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Mar 2018 12:41:08
Hi Stonrr if you look at all our signings since summer 2013 Cech Ospina Debuchy Chambers Holding Mustafi Kol Xhaka Elneney Welbeck Ozil Perez Sanchez Lacasette
Which players standing in the game is as high or higher now as when they arrived?
Sanchez obviously because he arrived a Barcelona sub and left a premier league super star
Plus Elney and Holding because no one had heard of them before joining us.
All the rest are much less highly rated players than when they arrived at Arsenal.
This on its own is reason not to waste anymore money under the Wenger/ Bould management.
That's a pretty awful return on investment in anyone's books.

26 Mar 2018 17:14:41
Like the rest of them stoner. Bould and a lot more like him pick up a nice pay cheque for saying yes boss.
