26 May 2014 23:31:00
Quite a few people on here have said recently that they would be disappointed if Remy was the only striker we brought in during the summer. Not in any way saying that it is likely to happen but just wondered what your opinions would be if we were to bring in both Remy and Eto'o?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd be disappointed with just Remy - but I'd be absolutely devastated if we signed Eto'o; we're bigger than Chelski, we don't need their rejects.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2014 11:39:25
Eto'o hardly a reject? He had a falling out with Jose. He'd be a decent free transfer. Pace, sublime finishing and experienced at highest level. Obviously much rather Benzema or Cavani ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is out of contract. It would cost at least £10M for a one year deal and he is already well in to his 40s. It makes zero sense.}

27 May 2014 16:17:00
Ed, you keap referring to eto'o as being in his 40's to my best knowledge he is 33. What makes you think he is in his 40s?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is a simple calculation based on when he was bold.}

Born? When he was born based on a legal document? or what a newspaper said his ex wife said eto'o's old mystery friend said (the date of birth touted would make him 39 by the way) . It defies belief. We've all heard of age cheating but the source on this one is so flimsy, unless you have some countrary source that has some level of credibly that would prove he is in his 40s like you've claimed. Seams like the conclusion you came to was through a simple yet somewhat imaginative calculation

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He was born in 1974.}

26 May 2014 22:43:38
When my wife said she was leaving me because of my obsession with the Monkees, I thought she was joking.

And than I saw her face.

I tried to commit suicide last night. I won't be trying that again.

I nearly blooming died.

The Greek economy is in such trouble, their Government have stopped production of Hummus and Taramasalata.

Yes, It's a double-dip recession.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I woke up this morning singing the green green grass of home, turns out I've got Tom Jones syndrome.
I asked the doctor if it was common he said ' its not unusual'

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2014 11:36:02
You two are the best :-) and it was your photo Dags re your occupation. You look the part. Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was in a pub the other night and went to get some Ciggies from the machine. I jumped as a voice boomed out and told me to bugger off. So I went back to the bar and reached for some peanuts only to jump again as they told me I was fantastic. I told the barman what had happened and he apologized. evidently the Ciggy machine was out of order and the peanuts were complimentary.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice on Epping mate,
I asked my doctor about having a vasectomy and he said ' do you want to go private' I was shocked he even asked that question and said ' yes of course, I don't want people watching'

I'm beginning to warm to this Griezman chap.

Sounds like a damn nice fellow and a fine patron in the art of football.

dare we begin to dream?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know what you mean dags. The comments the chairman recently made about not wanting to finish second, third and "certainly not 4th". Wanting to win the league and champions league, is the statement that all fans have been wanting to hear.
There's a lot more top names than usual being banded about this summer. Griezmann would be a top top addition. Hopefully strengh in depth is the transfer tactic.

I said a few weeks back that the Ozil deal would be meaningless if we don't back it up this window. Let's hope the club see that too

Agree0 Disagree0

He is quality Dags. I really hope we sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's get him on the bus Dags!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well to be fair dags, everyone is saying the same thing for a change. That we are definately speaking, and that Vela's clause is somehow involved in the negotiations.

Griezmann, Fabregas, and a HM and RB and I will start the party. I see Sagna hasn't gone yet though?

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely Gent's.

Griezman, get on board the Remy bus, son.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd say dags just give him a new bus
and if he is still sad don't forget the big cake on his birthday

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely Reet, we don't want him doing a 'Yaya'.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can someone pop over and help get Lord Wengers hand out that f***king coat pocket. And give him a pen
Come on Arsene, play the french man, No wonder it takes so long at arsenal to sign anybody.
Jesus, Paper, Pen, thank you very much.
Its doing in my head

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Welsh, he gave his word mate, that's good enough for me, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's probably already been done. I would expect it to be announced at the same time as a first signing of the summer. more than likely before the World Cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 18:28:51
I not sure about Balotelli
I he not a bigger sulk then Galles
He is on his day world class, but is he what we want.i think wenger will put his arm around him, every player say he is like a dad, so maybe that is what is needed, But if we get him we need another,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree Welsh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mourinho done his best with him at inter and it didn't work, and let's not forget all maureens players think the sun shines out of his backside, balotelli is a waster who can forget his allergy to grass episode he's another bendtner in the making, it would be dodging a bullet staying well clear of mario balotelli

Agree0 Disagree0

The word, Real Madrid players all hate mourinho, fact

G62,

you didn't answer question.
What do you do for a living mate? How do you keep the wolves from your castle door?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry DG your right mate in all the excitement of guessing others jobs I forgot to dish the dirt on me, I'm a fundraiser for a Medical charity.
I basically beg steal and borrow for a living.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope he isn't a tax inspector.

Agree0 Disagree0

G62,
in the earlier posts I said that I thought Goldboy was involved in medicine, but it turns out its you, ha ha, I was close.

very noble profession mate, I tip my hat to you in admiration.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I don't get any where close to the heroic or the real noble end of stuff Dags, I'm just a very small cog that helps the big wheel turn.

Agree0 Disagree0

Big wheels can't turn without small cogs mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

G62
Good i'm glad you said that, because up till now I thought you were important, lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I was worried about that too Welsh, but thankfully just turns out I was trying to hard but normal service rusummed now and the wife's happy again.
Oh sorry I thought you said

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 17:53:26
just a thought on a few issues gang.
1st thought, right back, if Sagna goes which is likely, how about Flamini playing there, he played virtually a season for AC Milan there, he's experienced, and is a fighter, Jenko could rotate?
2nd: Fabregas coming back, imo it would be great, but tactictally we would have to change, Fab is at his best playing deep spraying balls though to a pacy striker who is always on the turn facing the opposition goal, which Giroud is not! so I don't think Giroud and Fab could play together.
thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bang on with Flamini - he is so important as a competent RB, LB and DM - just not a starter at any. Worth his weight in gold.

Jenks will get a chance to come good as well!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 17:40:27
Not sure if it is real stuff, but Zubizareta (Barselona sport director ) have named 3 players who is out this summer. Alves, Sanches and Fabregas. I hope and want just last one.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 May 2014 17:37:41
I hope and pray we don't sign mario he is utter garbage if rather rent than him he's a lazy barsteward amd every game is all about him please don't sign him mr wenger sing the missing link benzema

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What are you trying to say Jelfy?

Stop sitting on the fence, you either like Balotelli or you don't, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Either or for me. Both quality strikers IMO.

Just think that ballo has an edge to him that we need.

Just think how psyched up he will be to beat Man City? Man Utd? Jose at Chelsea?

He has the ability to smash one in from 35yds or back heel it in from the same distance!

Benzema is a cool finisher and with the right service (Imagine Greizmann, Walcott and Ozil. not to mention Ramsey in support!)

Agree0 Disagree0

Bloody spell check lol what I was meant to say was jdkfuh jdjebekdi Klaipeda tdcebebhd there lol only joking I don't like mario if rather remy

Agree0 Disagree0

Jelfy mate take a deep breathe and throw off those shackles that keep your party bones hidden deep within you that cry out for a walk on the MAD side

Metro saying £18m Griezmann bid has been made, eds can you confirm?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

Apparently true

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 16:40:19
Also, which centre backs are we linked with or looking at, Vermaelen sounds like he might leave and we were lucky to last a season with 3 centre backs, let alone trying a season with just 2.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 May 2014 16:31:50
Griezmann looks a very exciting player and is very direct, something I think we miss at times. How possible that he could join in the summer? Also think Aurier is a must, regardless to Sagna's situation. Cheers eds, always appreciated

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 May 2014 15:25:49
Not sure if the first one work so what is the hype with mad mario. I think he is overrated what other peoples opinion cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's Madly Fantastic, he's Stupidly Brilliant and the sooner he's our problem the better.
Fasten your seat belts for the maddest baddest ride in football, he's just what the Emirates needs to bring out its best atmosphere

Agree0 Disagree0

Are we looking at the same player mario is utter garbage if rather bendtner

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner62 is spot on, the guy has talent to be the best in the world, have you seen what he can do from nothing, that's what we don't have, he is probably the best striker that we could afford, AW SIGN HIM UP ASAP, there is no better striker than balotelli, that is of his age or younger, :)

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 15:13:22
Why has arsene not signed a new contract yet? Or am I wrong sir?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wenger is a man of his word.

He has said he is staying.

That's good enough for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 14:56:36
I think jack rodwell could do a job in midfield for us may get slaughtered for saying but just my thoughts

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he's a bargain waiting to be snapped up, but when Cesc gets home from his holiday we just don't have room for him. Good player though and I think going back to Everton would Be a good move for both player and club right now

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 14:43:57
Apparently a lot of fans don't want benzema at arsenal, off sites like facebook, Twitter etc. I must say at £ 40m, I can think of 10 strikers i'd rather have, I think he's not worth more than 25 for me. I hope we get someone more dynamic than him, especially for that money.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree, at 40million, the likes of cavani is a possibility,

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Steve

Agree0 Disagree0

Give us the 10 names then Steve!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank yo for reading my mind Steve! Surely, a guy with only 1 year left on his contract, even 25m is too much. Although he'll likely prove me wrong, I think Benzema is overrated. I don't think I can name 10 I want before him, but I can sure name a few, based on who may be available.
Falcao
Cavani
Costa
El Shawaary
Martinez
Hulk
Balotelli
Lukaku
Lacazette

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanx outback, add to that dzeko, draxler and ivanisavic.

What members of the current England sqaud would you most like to see Arsenal sign? Maximum of 5 if any!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 May 2014 14:56:34
Hart
Shaw
Cahill
Barkley
Sterling

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana, Gahill, Barkly, Hart. To make it 5 thn Rooney.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cahill, Shaw, Barkley, Sterling, Sturridge.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me its got to be

Baines
Barkley
Cahill
Sturridge
Sterling

Agree0 Disagree0

From a liverpool fans perspective
Glen Johnson
Phil Jagielka
Frank Lampard
Danny Welback
Phil Jones

Agree0 Disagree0

Reet I would seriously cry if we got Welbeck and not a manly cry either, a proper terrible two years old tantram heartbreak bottom lip tremble cry.
Would it be to late to keep Betner if things got that bad, I mean Danny Welbeck, never ever ever on a Christmas tree

Agree0 Disagree0

TBH, Kyle walker is good, Barkley, Cahill, Sturridge, and another OX, ah

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson
cahill
llalana
barkely
sturrindge

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 17:47:46
I think it's very kind of you to take that lot Reet, they'll improve you no end. ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

G62 it looks from your in depth description that you have had those more than once

Agree0 Disagree0

Not proper Welbeck ones but close reet, when the misuss refuses to ditch the bread and milk to make extra beer room when its on a good offer in the supermarket I have been known to throw myself on the floor and refuse to get up until she gives in

Agree0 Disagree0

Forster (back up/challenge shezz)
Llalana (one of our best underrated mids)
Barkley (to play holding)
Sterling (on the left)
Sturridge (through the middle challenging giroud)

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 14:33:47
martinez will do as second choice keaper, could do with a right back, midfeilder, winger, striker. my prefrence would be aurier, fabregas, draxler and balotelli. as if we'll sign those 4 ;). think we'd win the league if we did get them though, thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Martinez will be let go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Balotelli is a must, already played here and is pure talent

Agree0 Disagree0

Saint I really hope not mate he is not good enough from what I have seen! The English lad who has been in goal for the u-21 this season could do as good of a job as him we need an experienced hand to push Schez not let him be comfortable knowing he is no.1 with no competition?!

Agree0 Disagree0

He's rotated within a top championship side for the last 5 months, he has some quality. Because of shezza's age, in terms of someone with experience out only hope is somebody like Sorensen. More of a coach than a player within a squad. We don't somebody of a prime age who is of similar quality to shezza if we do we should've kept fabianski, but in my opinion that's not fair on the player. Butland? He's no better than Martinez in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 13:25:22
I'm aware there's a lot of speculation ahoy and nothing done yet. But if as expected we do strengthen the Rb, Cdm, cf and left wing positions this year as expected with the names mentioned, arsenal should be an exciting place to be in the coming years! I think like everyone, a top quality striker to make the best of ozil, would give e us a setup comparable to the invincible era. Add greizman and a good quality Cdm and we should be a force to be rekon with. Good times :)

If we sign a 12 year old french kid and nobody else now, I'll be in the pub drowning my sorrows.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we sign only a 12 year old French kid the Emirates will be full of atmosphere on the opening day Gav, but not a good one,

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 13:02:02
whats all this BS about having to let go of cazorla to make room of fabregas, getting rid of flamini and arteta to make way for a world class holding mid and deciding whether to sign balotelli or remy. we pay the highest prices in the league for tickets we should expect to buy players in the quantity and quality that our rivals do, do you see man city pondering over false dichotomy? no of course not, if you want to compete with the best you have to think like the best. essential to that is adding to the existing squad, not replacing players. our problem this year was not quality it was a lack of depth.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we add Fab and Mad Mario plus a quality DMF we'll be more than fine Saint
Szczesney
Jenks Mert Kos Gibbs
DMF
Theo/Ox Ramsey Cesc Ozil
Mighty Mad Mario
Subs
No2 keeper
Back up RB
Back up Cb
Flamini
Ox/Theo
Carzola
Giroud
All for under 100 million and Bobs ya dad uncle and brother all rolled into one

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 13:53:19
Have to say I totally agree, Cazorla is a Spanish international and quality player. It is the likes of Arteta, Flamini and Kallstrom that need to be exchanged for the likes of Cesc, Carvalho, Rues or whoever of that level of ability.

Cazorla cannot be classed in amongst what was the deadwood we have spent to many seasons moving on.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 12:45:03
Szczesney will quite rightly start next season as our No1 GK who will realistically come to us and be ok being our number 2 keeper given Szczesney's age its likely to be a long term second fiddle job but who do you think would be both up to it and for it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ruddy. Been saying it for weeks steady hand and a good head on his shoulders doesn't flap and will be giving good competition on a far superior wage than he was on at Norwich! Happy campers

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2014 11:16:57

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This is more football related and partly Arsenal related I suppose . Maybe a bit controversial too sorry if I offend anyone. But even though I love Arsenal I am not looking forward to the World Cup games I couldn't really care less about them. Firstly do I think we have a chance? No! I will be surprised if we qualify in our group and are not back on the plane double quick after finishing in the bottom 2. I think Our Arsenal team would beat England simple as that. Secondly the risk of our players getting injured playing in a competition that is so charged up and come the new season we end up with a weakened squad again! instead of hitting the ground running. Thirdly the times that the matches will be broadcast. I can't see myself being bothered staying up till 2 in the morning to watch what? at the end of the day.
Im interested to know if anyone else feels the same about it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Golds,

Gonna keep it short because off to work.

Totally agree, good post.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed mate, I've got very little interest, I'll be watching highlights of any Arsenal players but apart from that I'm not bothered.

Roll on premier league 2014/15

I read an interesting article on Rooney and that his inclusion in the United side, with Moyes pandering to his every whim, went a long way to them being so poor.

He concluded it by saying this:

Roy Hodgson will too indulge Rooney in Brazil at the World Cup. He will play him at every opportunity despite the evidence borne out at every international tournament since 2006. Rooney has not got the class or the ability to lead England through a tournament summer just like he can't lead United when it matters. He will go to Brazil on the back of an injury, on the back of a 50-plus-game season and into the sultry heat and humidity. He will surely fail.

With Liverpool playing as well as they are - boasting Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge - Hodgson must realise that even the occasional burst of bright, inventive football can't get him far at a World Cup. It is fitting that stodgy old England will go to the World Cup with the stodgiest "world class player" of them all as their leading man.

So I have no expectations for England and hope our boys come out of whatever game time unscathed.

Agree0 Disagree0

You will also get the same old excuse for some players after a few weeks of the pl season starting, "they're exhausted, because they didn't get a proper rest, due to world cup duty.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep pretty much feel the same and always have done.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank god for that boys I thought I was being a miserable sod. Funnily a lot of people I know who are football fans can't be bothered with the Workd Cup either. Just shows us how strong the Premier League is in holding our interest. Thanks all for agreeing and not slating my opinion I wasn't really expecting that.

Agree0 Disagree0

The closer it gets the more interest will grow and given the youth in the side it will explode if we beat Italy in the opener, obviously we won't win it but if we give a decent account with young players and some how reach the QF it will equal anything the fools gold generation ever produced.
Just a shame lampard has taken up a valuable space in a young squad

Agree0 Disagree0

Very true as a lot of the die England fans I know don't really support clubs but will go allover the world following England, I've been to 1 England match and that was only as it didn't cost me a penny.

Agree0 Disagree0

I couldn't give a . about england. but I LOVE the world cup. knowing its just round the corner sends shivers down my spine. in my opinion there is no better stage for seeing young, exotic foreign talent. it may not have the calibre of the premier league or the euros in terms of the number of quality teams, but from an enjoyment perspective there is no greater tournament in football. I hope germany do well personally, love seeing good players doing there stuff and I think the german team is more likely to do that than any other

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow, I'm actually really surprised at this, but I guess I can understand. Here in Australia, my Love for football sprung from the World Cup, as it was the only football competition, telecast in full, on Aussie TV. The 94 world cup absolutely captivated me, I can remember exactly where I was when Bergkamp scored a pearler against, I think, Argentina. That made him instantly my favorite player and me ultimately, a gooner. Anyway, when my beloved Socceroos managed to defeat Uruguay on penalties to qualify for the 06 world cup, the first time we'd qualified for 32 years, it was a special moment. We're drawn with Spain, The Netherlands and Chile this time, so not much chance but, I tell you, I'll be cheering my heart out anyway for the Socceroos @ 4:30 in the morning, just like I did for the Gunners in the FA cup. I hope you guys don't need to miss qualifying for the World Cup for 32 years to appreciate how special it can be and the magic it can create.

Agree0 Disagree0

Italia 90 was the one for me, so proud of the players and even more so of Sir Bobby.
Loved it, held in a real footballing country great stadiums great players great atmosphere great football and a very good England. That was our best ever performance away from home, so gutted but so very very proud.
If this England side could get to the QF playing decent football with young players the love affair between country and fans could be reignited, and the page finally turned on the over rated under achieving tin plated generation

Agree0 Disagree0

GOLDIE
Im the same no intrest in world cup
What it all about

Agree0 Disagree0

As an unbiased observer, I'm actually really looking forward to watching this England side play. I genuinely think your lot could run over the top of Italy and Uruguay. Wilshire, Ox, Barkley, Lallana, Sterling and Sturridge. A ton of pace there and fitness can be so important in this tournament, which those young blokes have.

Agree0 Disagree0

I read awhile back that the true england supporters are the ones who don't support the big teams, and the ones who get an opportunity to bask in glory. hence you don't see a lot of supporters from big clubs supporting england, also the clans from each club which is known to exist divide loyalty from the fans. For liverpool its sturridge and stevie G's side, for Arsenal fans its wilshere and ox, for Manchester United fans its welbeck and rooney

while I do love the world cup, I think the champions league is what does it for me.

Just want Arsenal to win the cup in the next 5 years. we have the squad albeit missing some key players in key positions, RB, CDM, CF, but if we manage to buy the right players and the element of luck sits well at the time, we can all sing to that tone.

Agree0 Disagree0
