Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

26 May 2015 23:45:37
Trying to keep on topic.

So, a question.

Giroud is our main striker but hasn't scored in 8/9 games.

Walcott had his 1st start in 2 months on Sunday, played as a striker and scored 3.

So, who do we start upfront against Villa.

Olly or Theo?

27 May 2015 03:30:43
Wallcot has scored in a game which had no importance, Yes Giroud hasn't scored in a while but somehow he is the focal point of our attack, the whole team seems to be play differently when he is up top.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2015 04:44:46
Theo, would always prefer a man in form.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2015 07:43:59
Theo as I believe Giroud is pants and is one of the weakest links in the team

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2015 08:03:41
In the game against West Brom Theo managed to show us what we've all wanted to see from Giroud, being in the right place at the right time, constantly moving into space and making a goal from nothing, the first, that and having that priceless attribute of pace.

For me it's Theo with this time the option of Giroud from the bench.

I have lost count of the times throughout the season when either Cazorla or Ozil, with Giroud on the shoulder of the last man, have instead of playing the killer ball, turned back inside.

Playing with our more defensive mindset speed on the break is paramount.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2015 08:16:38
Playing down the middle, Giroud because even if he doesn't score he contributes so much to the team where if Theo doesn't score he's a passager

Agree1 Disagree0

27 May 2015 09:44:02
I think that the thing villas defence can't cope with us pace, based on that alone I would ,maybe, favour walcott

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2015 11:58:36
Giroud off the bench, If we are losing or drawing we need a plan B.

I think the majority of the game, or the first 60 mins anyway will be quite open as Villa are quite a ballsy and attacking team. It worried very well against Liverpool in the semi.

Walcott is a player that should start. His pace scares teams. It will pin back Villa's defence and create space in the middle for Cazorla, Alexis, Ozil and Ramsey/Wilshere. And if they don't sit that 10/15 yards deeper, then Walcott will get in behind and destroy them.

Giroud off the bench as a plan B for aerial threat, long balls and better hold up play. Can bring him on for Walcott or to play alongside him if its going badly for us.

Agree1 Disagree1

27 May 2015 14:21:49
Walcott. I reckon Villa's preparation for the game will be based on us playing Giroud, and if they have any sense they will set up just like Sunderland did, defend deep and try to hit us on the break when we over commit. Therefore even if its just to throw a spanner in their plans, i would start Theo.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2015 19:53:34
Depending n who's fit I'd rather have Sanchez up front or Theo

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2015 22:29:35
I can't see us signing a very top striker and keeping both Giroud and Walcott, it would be impossible to keep all happy because if you play two up top it would impact on an already very competitive MF that is likely to be strengthen further.
Walcott out wide? that's not where he wants to play and Olly is the wrong age to become anyone's understudy.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - if its true that theo will not be happy wide, and that giroud would not want a fight on his hands for a starting place..then my advice would be to get rid of both G62, i hate it when players dictate to the boss mate..

26 May 2015 22:43:30
I heard Perry Groves talking today Ed and he said he thought Theo would go because he wants to be both first chioce and play down the middle, to be fair to him he has stated that lots of times in the past and during his last contract saga reassurances on that were a big factor for him in signing.
As for Giroud its just a personal view playing second fiddle won't be enough for him at this stage of his career, but as we all know only too well I could be wrong, again Ed :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i like theo but i think he has got a cheek mate..

26 May 2015 22:52:41
Charlie Austin.

There, I said it again :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not good enough...there i told you again dags.. :)

26 May 2015 22:55:42
Funny enough as much as I dislike his financial demands I've always thought if he's,ever going to be a very top player it is down the middle and not out wide where he's very hit and miss for me and will only ever be OK rather than exceptional.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - hes hardly henry though G62, his finising is very poor imo mate which is not the greatest trait for a central striker..

26 May 2015 23:00:25
Chas would be a half way measure to keep others happy Dags and a recipe for recapturing the 4th place trophy.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2015 23:09:00
True Ed but neither is he or ever will he be a Bale Roben or Ranaldo, how's his goalkeeping? :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the same as ospina,s...mediocre.. :)

26 May 2015 23:15:18
Walcots finishing is far bettervthan people think, check his stats and they are exceptional, his goals to shot ratio is is one of the highest in the prem and far better than giroud. He is a very capable goal scorer, but his goals to pound notes is poor.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 May 2015 23:19:00
Got to agree mate, he looks suspiciously un premier league winning material to me mate, decent bit not a top keeper for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2015 23:25:20
I hear you Ed.

But let me throw this at you, purely as banter.

Lukaku £28m 10 prem goals.

Austin £12m 18 prem goals.

I rate Lukaku very highly but Charlie has performed miracles this season at a club who got relegated.

In fact, I honestly think a Lukaku/Austin strikeforce at Everton would be immense.

G62,
I honestly think Austin would be great at Emirates.
18 prem goals, he would be a perfect partner/understudy to Giroud.

Look at Remy this season.
OK, he didn't set prem on fire, but he scored some valuable goals in the absence of Costa and Drogba.

We need a back up who is possibly happy to step up but still be happy to be a squad player.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - austin did very well dags theres no denying that but imo he is very raw, giroud should be your back up striker mate if your serious about winning the league..

26 May 2015 23:27:16
PS, and he only scored 2 less than Diego Costa.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - so...theres not a great deal of difference between austin and costa then?...speaking of costa..wake up and smell the coffee mate.. :)

27 May 2015 07:07:08
Lol, I like that Ed :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2015 07:52:42
Lol, I find it funny how people want an understudy to Giroud. Giroud will never be part of a title winning starting 11 in England. If Chelsea sell Costa and replace him with Giroud, they will not win the league, if Barca sell Suarez and replace him with Giroud, they will not win their league. Giroud is an average striker at best. Yes he works hard, but then again, sometimes we want a magician of a striker. I think he should be in the top 5 strikers for missed chances in the EPL this season. He is bench material for me. This so called "Arsenal way" of him holding the ball up has won us zilch EPL and UCL trophies.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 May 2015 19:54:49
Austin is good enough to be worth a shot, he's as good at every club he's been at as Giroud was when we bought him

Agree1 Disagree0

26 May 2015 19:24:22
Hi ends now that dybala looks like he won't be an Arsenal player next season, are you of the understanding that Jackson Martinez is our number 1 target now.?

26 May 2015 20:25:20
I have but I'm hearing all rumours benzema, martinez, Higuain, we must have a number 1 target, just wanted clarification in your opinion,

Liverpool can go from 61 points to 84 in a season but people are daft enough to believe we can't close a gap of 12 points.

Chelsea lost 3 games, how few do they have to lose next season to retain their title. At the top the margins for improvement will be small. The margins for improvement from below will be bigger.

United will believe they can close a gap of 17 points, they won't with that dog awful squad but they'll believe they can, mind you, saying that, they make 4 quality signings and they'll have the best starting 9 in the league. ;-)

It's easy for a guy with a gun to win a knife fight. Next season Arsene will in terms of our team have a gun. Then we'll see if Mourinho pulls Wengers pants down or will he as usual just park the bus.

When has Wenger played a Mourinho team on a level playing field to be honest and I'm talking in terms of the quality at his disposal. It's easier to build up a run of wins.

I have, genuinely, zero doubt that Wenger will win the EPL in the remaining two years of his contract. The points difference is easily surmountable because our squad is better, our style of play is better, our defensive cohesion is markedly better with no reason whatsoever to believe that will change because all the players and Wenger constantly talk about it.

As for selling Walcott, Wilshere or Ozil, seriously do me a favour. Priority for players out of the door start at Diaby, Flamini, Podolski, Sanogo, Arteta, Campbell, Myiachi and Rosicky (if he wants to go for game time).

Likewise if Walcott wants to leave then cheers mate and thanks, but we now have quality all over the park so let's move on the players I suggest and add the extra quality that may mean the likes of Cazorla, Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere, Welbeck, Giroud and Walcott have to work even harder to stay or get in the team.

Now let's go win the FA Cup and at least give Steve a little respite from his misery. ;-)

A bit of a stab in the dark ed, but have you heard any whispers regarding Remy? I can't imagine he will take Diego Costa's place in the starting 11 any time soon, yet I think he's too good to be on the bench so often and when he does get on the pitch he tends to score a goal. Maybe he is content with his role.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You want the Chelsea page for this.}

26 May 2015 14:52:47
Well I meant have you heard any transfer whispers since we (Arsenal) may be on the lookout for a striker and we were linked with him last summer. I'm not too concerned with the Chelsea team selection side of my post.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is stuff going on with him - but it is nothing to do with Arsenal.}

26 May 2015 15:22:38

Let's not rush to praise not diminish walcott of of one game... Come on I dare you to be sensible :D

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 May 2015 12:34:58
it depends on what ed002 has stated about our transfer targets and who we actually acquire.

signing fekir would possibly mean either we are replacing cazorla or we are replacing walcott.

i know caz plays with coq in the mid, but we are looking to buy a schneiderlin to complement ramsey and have depth of coq and wilshere in that position, so i can think of fekir being the option to push one of the two mentioned on sale.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2015 09:47:00
Fekir and Lacazette would be the best move in my opinion. Although Lacazette move doesn't seem likely, according to Ed, i would push for them BOTH, as they have a sick synergy. I definetly see Fekir as Cazorla's heir, he's 21 perfect age to learn from Caz for a season or two.

Perfect window would be Cech and Schneiderlin in addition to Fekir and Lacazette but i believe that would be pretty expensive as these players would not come cheap

Cech - 10 mil
Schneiderlin - around 30 mil
Fekir - 20-30 mil
Lacazette - probably 35-40

So unless we sold someone for big cash i don't think this could happen. But I really beleive that these players would make us serious title contenders.

And the reason i didn't mention any defensive signings is because i believe we got that covered. We signed Gabriel in January, we have him and Chambers as covers for Merts and Kos and if injuries get really serious Debuchy and Monreal can cover. Maybe a bargain left back although i wouldn't make that a priority.

For now let's just focus on that FA cup final, bring that trophy home boys! :)

Believable2 Unbelievable0

26 May 2015 12:35:53
i don't think we can get both, fekir would be the more likely of the two lyon players, and i think higuain or martinez would be one of the options upfront.

I know Isco has been looked at, and fingers crossed wouldn't mind taking Bale off their hands

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not one iota.}

26 May 2015 00:12:29
Completely hypothetical question

If Theo was at another club and was available at 30 million like some people quite he's worth, given his injury record would you be happy if Wenger signed him?

At this point I'd rather sell Ozil and Theo and go after Bale......there I said it

Believable0 Unbelievable3

26 May 2015 07:29:21
Ozil every day over Bale given the choice, but they do different jobs but Ozil is absolute class

Agree2 Disagree0

26 May 2015 08:30:06
I wouldn't buy Theo if he played for another club, certainly not for £30m, but I would certainly keep him now he's back from that long injury.

I think its the same with Jack.
Would another club pay £30m for him?
Doubt it.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2015 20:19:12
Personally I think Jack and Theo would be high on anyones shopping list if they were on the market- I sincerely hope they are NOT!
I don't think Mourinho wouldn't sell any player to Arsenal who was worth a sh!te . Like Man city he is interested in the idea of weakening your main opposition with transfers as well as strengthening your own.
The thought of us selling MO and TW to help buy Bale is daft.... Why not have all three in your team/squad?
Selling/Loaning other players out would enable another couple of big players in without taking a hit on quality players.

26 May 2015 21:49:53

My thoughts on this season. Pluses we finished 3rd, we scored more goals, and let in less, sancez, coq, bellarin and shezny (think about it). Negatives, we got less points, we were further behind the leaders and we had second in the bag and blew it. Champions league failure agin under similar circumstances. opinion is we need a goalie, a left back, a centre back, a strong tall ball winning midfielder and a striker of some repute, to even think of closing the gap and attaining the 85 points usually needed to win the league. Wenger showed again his falability to young managers, who set their teams up to stiffle our brand of football. He again showed his own lack of tactical ability and trying to shoehorn his best players into a team, ignoring balance or opposition strengths. His idea of tactics are bringing a midfielder or striker on with 20 minutes to depending on how he feels the game is going. My opinion is we will never win a league whichever players he signs while maureen is in town because he will never get the better of someone who knows he is better than him. He just has him in his pocket tactically. The fa cup is a plus if we win, but like i said last year, its great to win it but it doesn't mean you are a great team or manager. I would have liked him to have bowed out a hero last year and i would this. Only two more years to wait to challenge again, i hope.

My take is this 2014 Arsene had to go because he refused to do the obvious, 2015 he finally brought in a DM and we had a magnificent run which only really hit the skids after we failed to beat chelsea.
Winning the premier league next season will be difficult for us chelsea city and utd but one of us will and the other 3 will this time next year be still be trying to find solutions.
Arsene finally allowed himself to change in January and our teams work rate improved 100% plus he became much more expectant of everyone hence the more reliable defensively Monreal finally displaced Gibbs long term.
A lot more positives than negatives in 2015 which is handy because 2014 was pathetic.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2015 14:05:26
People dismiss Arsene, but if we got rid of him every team in the world would be interested. Even Abramovich gets sick of watching Mourinhos teams. Who would you have as Wenger's replacement exactly?
