Celebrating with a pint of cider and black in a leafy Peckham pub watching the spurs game, I'm now lighting a huge Jamaican reefer as I fire up the Subaru heading home to downtown Tottenham and I have the black cab booked for Stringfellows on Saturday night. R. G. me and you live In a different world.

Sport on raver61, we live in two totally different worlds, thankfully!
Porsche 911 Turbo - Mum's rusty Subaru
Belgravia mews house - Mum's Edmonton council flat
Jimmy's nightclub in Monte Carlo - Stringfellows, is that dump even still open?
Arsenal - the toot
Trophies - no trophies

Thankfully I chose to be born a gooner. The pain at the lane and Wembley just goes on. 1961, yes 1961 and waiting. Go on raver61, list the trophies won by the toot i your short lifetime.

The toot:
Last League title - 1961 (56 years ago)
Last FA Cup - 1991 (26 years ago)
Last League Cup - 2008 (9 years ago)

The pain at the lane, R. G. we don't even worry about you anymore. A much better squad topping the champions league group to a average team playing bate on Thursday says it all. You won't be beating us or finishing above us again this season either as you are bang average bar Sanchez.

Good win last night, some may say slightly fortuitous, but nevertheless, 2 goals scored and a clean sheet.

Yes Dags a good 3 points. I'm not sure how we have kept 3 clean sheets because we look very dodgy at the back to say the least. I think we are going to let a goal in every time we are attacked. Scary defending!

Interestingly West Brom are whinging about the Mustafi penalty incident, I suggest they watch Sanchez's shirt being pulled in the box by Krychowiak and a further foul by Nyom when he held Monreal in the box. Both were clear fouls and hence penalties.
As for the cheating jibe aimed at Sanchez for an alleged dive, I suggest they realise that deliberating fouling players is also a form of cheating, they were fortunate to get away with only 4 bookings and Dawson should have had a second yellow in the match, Krychowiak was also fortunate only to recieve one booking for persistent fouling. Refereeing is extremely difficult ar this level with the pace of the game and some very crafty players. Indeed, Manley is one of the better ones. Mike Dean, Andre Marriner and Jonathan Moss are truly shocking!

If the boot was on the other foot would we moan about it?
It's what we football fans do isn't it?
Over a season they even themselves up so it's just important to remember when a decision doest go your way all the ones that have.
No one wins titles or gets relegated because of refs mistakes it's usually pretty much down to the management and players over 38 games.

We were very lucky, whatever went on to not be a goal down to a blatant stupid penalty, that luckily wasn't given. But that's football and we should remember things will go against us and that's football.

Good win last night, lucky in first half but much better and controlled second half and was exciting to see how well alexis and laca linke up can't wait for more of it to come!

One thing irritated me though, Wenger, why take of lacazette with 10 mins to go when he could get a hat-trick? Surely keep him on and let him try get a 3rd and go for golden boot?

I thought he should’ve kept him on. But then games are coming quick maybe it’s best to rest him when possible.

The game was won and with 10 mins or so to go, Wenger made the sensible decision to withdraw Lacazette and Sanchez, opposed to running the risk of injury to these two players that had been subject to some heavy tackling from Pullis's usual physical team. With a heavy schedule ahead both this week and during the International break, when Lacazette may play for France. A hat-trick and the golden boot are of little consequence.

All players won't play well in every game, Mustafi was excellent v Chelsea but poor again last night but when the side is balanced and players suited to their positions and the job your asking then to do you can quite often carry 1 possibly 2 players not at their best on the day.
Last night's starting 11 and formation is in my opinion the best Arsene has picked in a very very long time.
No square pegs in round holes no obvious weaknesses that could have been avoided.
Ozil isn't suited to this Arsenals most effective team despite being a wonderful player and Iwobi really does need to go out on loan somewhere as he always looks out of his depth at the moment.
Tougher games ahead so injuries allowing give this side it's best chance of bedding in together and getting a good solid understanding.
The most successful premier league teams in recent years chose stability over rotation and keeping players happy.

Most Overrated Managers?

26 Sep 2017 07:12:46
{Ed's Note - we have posted a new article entitled, Most Overrated Managers?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Sep 2017 08:04:24
Good read that Ed, football management has to be the only job where you can do well for 1 year and live off it for the next 20 years.
Some pretty poor managers seem to continuely get new jobs over and over again.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate. I think you are right there, people seem to forget that things change and that what was right in one place and time is not right in every place and time.}

26 Sep 2017 08:25:38
Many clubs seem to just go for a name rather than interview potential new managers to make the most informed chioce they can on a attributes and weaknesses and how they would match with the clubs own vision, financial situation and ethos.
Looking back is easy but why did Liverpool think Sourness was the right man to continue their proven formula when he was so obviously a man used to doing things his way 100% and unafraid to back himself 200%.
Just my view but I think he is a prime example of someone getting a job because of who he was rather than his suitability for that particular position.

Can't say I disagree too much and for me the jury is still out on Howe . But I did notice that you mentioned his recruitment since coming to the prem as poor but in the report you did on clubs in the transfer window you gave them a -A which was one of your highest grades in that piece?

{Ed001's Note - I would agree completely, he got the job because he was a former great player, not because he was a great manager.}

Jurgen appears to be feeling the pressure a bit this season Ed, he seems less humorous, relaxed and happy than he has in the past and much more angry and even slightly strange in his interviews this season.
I like the bloke a lot and think he will get Liverpool back as real and regular contenders given time, if he sticks around that is as he doesn't seem a happy bunny at the moment.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - just a quick answer to Sano first, as it wasn't me who picked up his reply, I was talking about previous season's recruitment in this piece mate, as it is too soon to truly judge this season's. However, on paper he had recruited well last season too, but none of them worked out for him, so that is the difference between hindsight and judging on paper ahead of an event. His recruitment always looks good on paper, but they just never seem to work out, as is happening again this season, which is why I do not rate him at all.

As for Klopp, I agree the pressure from the media has cranked up a lot this season and he also knows that he messed up the transfer window with the tapping up. I think a lot is annoyance at himself as he could have had a centre back otherwise.}

26 Sep 2017 10:12:59
Fair Play Ed001 mate and thanks for the reply, I like Jurgen and I think he is good for both Liverpool and English football.
Obviously I've never met him but he comes across as a very decent man and very good manager who expects everyone to pull their full weight from fans to players to board, to me he sees the bigger picture of what it takes to make Liverpool great again and has high expectations of all himself included.
With someone like that behind the steering wheel you've always got a chance of getting where you want to go.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - unfortunately I am not convinced the fans are willing to accept a long term view like his. They want instant success. Everything is about instant gratification these days, no one understands the value of working for something.}

26 Sep 2017 10:28:42
Haha . Just to make you aware that I always throughly read your work and I enjoy it lol. I do agree with your assement.

{Ed001's Note - you did make a very good point though, it does show just how poorly he is managing the resources at his command. And thank you, I only do all the articles because people want to read them, so I am glad you do. Though I will probably be cursing the fact you enjoy them the next time my mind goes blank as I am trying to write an article!}

26 Sep 2017 10:40:09
If not Klopp who?
Even with unlimited funds there is absolutely no guarantee of success and without them you have to give someone an absolute minimum 5 years to take over a club who have become 5th to 7th place regulars with only the occasional top 4 fling in recent years to their name to become anything like capable of being the best of the best in English football again.
Top 4 last season and if he does that again I'd say he was 100% on course and doing an absolutely great job in his 2nd full season.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would stick with Klopp, I see no better options out there. I like Nagelsmann but his team was taken to the cleaners by Klopp earlier in the season and he looked to have no answer to Klopp's tactics. There just aren't any managers around that are willing to build success rather than buy it, though Jardim and Sarri, plus maybe Jorge Jesus would be the 3 I would consider were Klopp to depart for whatever reason.}

26 Sep 2017 11:02:14
I think people have to be realistic when you make an appointment, is a fair to ask Chris Houghton to finish top 4? Of course not, but top 17 is responsible ask to keep his job in my opinion but in 3 years time the target should be mid table minimum because everyone wants to progress and be all they can be.
Mourinho went to utd knowing he had 3 years absolute maximum to win a title and needs to get very close this season too which in my opinion is fair given the resources he's been given.
I think clubs and fans have to be realisticly ambitious and set fair achievable progress targets each season for their manager.
Peps would be win the world cup at least with city this season :-)

I've always maintained that Howe was not a manager I would like to see at Arsenal. Interestingly enough, before Klopp took the Liverpool job, he was my hope for taking over from Wenger.

I read any article recently that listed the top 50 managers in world football. The top 5, in order, were:
1. Conte
2. Zidane
3. Allegri
4. Simeone
5. Mourinho

6 to 10, we listed as Jardim, Ancelotti, Guardiola (8th? Really? ) , Klopp and Bosz.

Simeone and Jardim stand out for me in that list as managers I'd love to see at Arsenal.

Incidentally, Wenger was ranked 31st in this list of 50 managers, with Howe ranking in at 38th.

Because of what he's won with 5 different clubs I'd put Mourinho top.
I know he spends a lot and is a pain but he also delivers everywhere he goes.
