personally I think there is nothing wrong with the JM set his side up.Arsene TAKE NOTE matey. I certainly don't understand the fuss about resting players, at the start of the season you register 20+ players, they are your squad and eligible to play in any game, you should be able to rotate whenever you feel like it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree Banbury.

JM was without a few key players and also had one eye on the 2nd leg against Athletico.

You submit your squad to the FA at the start of the season, so you should be able to play them and rotate your squad, at any time.

They won at Anfield, so JM is justified.

after the chelsea vs liverpool game.

i read an article by sid lowe on tito.

and for me this sums up the man in a few words his words, but what football should be about besides what it is becoming, and then labelled tactical mastermind.

"We're different. Winning alone is not enough: we have an ideal of youth team players and attacking football, as Barcelona's culture demands. We have our faults but being cowards will never be one of them."

RIP brave one.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He also wrote (about Tito)

"Your courage is our strength".

Rip Tito.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think i'd rather win 2-0 parking the bus than lose 5-1 playing like barcalona or not playing like barcalona.

Agree0 Disagree0

Apologies all.

I shouldn't but.

Steve you can obviously see that both Laker and dags are talking about What made Vilanivo tick as a human being. They are merely paying their respect to a man that believed in doing things a certain way knowing that being brave and courageous was the only way to achieve it. Unfortunately for Tito, his bravery and courage was not enough to beat the horrible disease. God rest his soul.

furthermore Steve, using a thread of this type to ram home your opinion about Arsenal/wenger is down right disrespectful.

Steve, you need to get back to reality and stop fantasizing and brown nosing morinho and Chelsea and support your own club for what they are. none of us has any influence on what decisions are made within the club.

Grow up man.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nessi,

To be fair to Steve, I think he meant to post it in the thread above Lakervilles.

The one started by Banbury.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry,

That came out wrong, bloody stupid keyboard.

I meant, steve basically posted that comment in the wrong thread.

I'm pretty certain he meant to post that comment under Banbury's original post and not Lakerville's.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks dags no I didn't mean to post it in anothet thread, it was a generalisaion of what's been said in other threads and poor old nessi, well a bit ott. It wasnt and isn't meant to disrespect any one including those mentioned in this thread. Its a fact of how I feel.

If we finish 4th and win FA Cup, do you think Wengerism will put in an appearance?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Course he will. He's probably practising his cheer routines for Wenger

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol Rocky,

Straight swap,

Jack Wilshere for Yaya Toure.

yes or no?.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - absolutely yes dags..

I would swap but I don't think they would. No brainer really. Messi or giroud!

Agree0 Disagree0

No brainer Ed

Agree0 Disagree0

Wilshire, Arteta and Flamini for Toure

Agree0 Disagree0

I would do that deal all day long mate.
Injuries or not.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 22:30:44
Steve.r: with regards to still being 4th;
1. The league is much stronger now then any of the previous seasons. With the new tv deals meant all the clubs were able to spend much more then usual e.g: Southampton, west ham, hull, palace, west brom etc all spent around 20mil plus.
2. It's not just being closer in points, but also having more points than previously.
3. We are within 1 game of ending our trophy drought: which has been mainy fans target and plea for years, and now we are close it doesn't mean anything!?
4. No other team has suffered injuries to key players like we have, yes every team gets injuries and so did we during the first half of the season, but we were able to get through because most of our key players were there. You can buy to strengthen the squad to cover certain players, even 1 or 2 key players but you cannot buy enough players to cover 4 key players injured at the same time!
5. Nuff said!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The only valid point you make is no 3. The others are poor excuses for me. The league is no stronger or weaker and is the same for every one. We are fourth where we always are. We always use the injuries excuse and we always fail when the heat is on. Nuff said.

Agree0 Disagree0

How is the league not stronger from before?
before this season any team who lost 5 games or more would not win the league. this season who hasn't?
last season where were Liverpool and everton and Southampton? look where they are now.
yes we've always used the injuries excuse, but it doesn't take away the fact that it has a big effect.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 22:08:40
Arsenal have joined the race to sign £20m rated Danny Welbeck.

Please God, no. He's poor.

Would rather have Danny La Rue.

Hey Ho.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Apr 2014 20:58:42
When you watch the way maureen hiho goes about doing a job, even with a weaker side, don't it make you open your eyes to where we faill big game after big game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

See my post below Steve.

Totally agree with what you say though mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Like I said before. We are unbeaten in all the home games at home

Agree0 Disagree0

His supposed weaker side had willian, matic, schurlle, demba ba, torres, do you really want to know how much they cost chelsea?

it was not really a second string team, or perhaps it was, those poor chelsea owners indeed, and poor jose too.

besides oscar and hazard and terry and luiz everyone else played, but he has an easy picking 15-16 first team players.

It came of for them, well done, but parking the bus for 90 mins and hitting them on the break is now considered tactical mastermind.

no doubt they deserved to win, but to me it was just typical jose mourinho, win at any cost, but the game as a spectator, was probably only as interesting and pricking a boil on your back.

the only interesting bit is that the title race is wide open.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe lakerville we could have parked the bus a few times ourselves as you call it.

Agree0 Disagree0

By the way you forgot chech, ramirez and cahill.

Agree0 Disagree0

Waq yes we are unbeaten at home as you stated before, excellent, what about the other side of the coin, our away form, man city lost, chelsea lost, liverpool lost, everton lost, man u lost. A bit of a theme going there.

Agree0 Disagree0

By the way waq drew at home to chelski, 1 point, drew at home to sheik city, 1 point, drew at home to man u, 1 point. 3 points from 9 there against direct rivals, not too much to brag about. You also forgot defeat at home to villa, but that was a long while ago. i'm sorry you won't convince me.

Agree0 Disagree0

If your going to include Manu, then y not Liverpool n spurs, oh wait because we won it don't count as it doesn't support your argument

Agree0 Disagree0

Waq what about our
away form. You keep missing it out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes steve I agree our away form against the big clubs hasn't been good. but what i'm trying to get at is when people including yourself keep posting about being outpowered/outplayed etc by other big clubs, and if that was the case then the home/away games wouldn't make much of a difference.
yes we've been poor away from home, but that don't mean we are miles behind mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steve, I've seen the park the bus at Arsenal, and while we did win trophies, I still prefer the way we play now.

i don't see the point of football, if it is not going to evolve, these tactical geniuses around, forget that the 70's and 80's had quite a few managers who were of that mould.

the ideal way to play is how dortmund play, not counter attack but a variety depending on the opposition, but never sitting back and defending for 90 mins.

I admired them for how they played at madrid, they missed chances and got hurt, but they got back home and they put on a display which has me just in awe of that team.

while winning is always seen as the positive side, how you win is just as important as winning.

you would not see a Manchester United side sitting behind and defending for 90 mins like moyes did, and I do not want an arsenal who will do this either.

jose mourinho has his titles, and yes he does get results, but if the objective is only results then he is a genius, but if it is having a identity then he is lost.

when he loses he says the other teams park the bus, but when he does it, its genius.

im not against his style of football, i'm against his hypocrisy. if he wants to claim it as his style I will admire him, but double standards can take a hike.

you don't seem to realise how difficult it is for any team to break down a team just sitting outside their own penalty box hoofing the ball away. as a spectator sport it is a shame.

i actually enjoyed watching villareal against barca, where both teams played, where villareal scored, where barca got lucky and the game as a whole was entertaining. including dani alves eating the banana, shame he did not throw the peel back as a thank you gesture.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 20:39:04
Well we did not have enough to beat Chelski today. Their valet service in parking the bus was too professional for us to handle.

I would always rather play to win than play not to lose but you still have to give respect to a well drilled defensive performance.

Bad day at the office for us but at least we don’t have to watch a boring side every week. Sometimes I think that even Jose is bored with his lot.

Still it has been a great season for us with plenty of happy memories.

You should have a straightforward time against the Geordies and soon you can think about the Cup final. If you win the Cup finish top 4 and Wenger signs on again then that is not too bad a season in my book.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Besides the fact that chelsea winning has made the title race and open race,

I sometimes wonder if jose mourinho always goes into games thinking he is the underdog.

why does he have matic, schurlle, salah, azpulietta, cole, lampard, willain, so on and on, if he is just going to sit back and defend and counter attack.

surely he can avoid spending millions, just buy some defenders, some wingers and do his underdog game plan every game, make it the chelsea way, like barca have tiki taka, they can call it header and footer.

what pisses me off, is that sitting behind for most of the game and having a counter here and there work in your favour is considered tactical genius, I wonder how big sam feels, that the west ham fans are asking for his head for similar tactics, yet at chelsea they are worshipping a GOD.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tommy,

Mourinho was always going to park the bus mate, boring boring but job done for him.

4th and FA Cup? i'm happy with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

You can't win em all. You have had a great season what ever, o just think maureen hiho just gave you a glimpse of next season, like us you will need a plan b.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would you feel the need to come onto the Arsenal page to post about a Liverpool game? We're Arsenal, we don't care about Liverpool.

Yes we all hate Chelsea but seriously what's the need. oh we lost but good luck Arsenal blah blah.

Personally I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Liverpool get beat, the look on Gerrard's face after Ba's goal will be a highlight of the season for me.

Now, back to all things ARSENAL related.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you sad face..

27 Apr 2014 20:35:52
PFA Team of the Year,

Not an Arsenal player in sight.

Ouch

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think that speaks volumes for us to chew over. Rose spectacles etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cahill above Kos? Give me a break mate and tbf I honestly think Rambo would beat Gerrard on stats even though he only played 2/3 of the season!

Agree0 Disagree0

Baz,

Fair comment about Kos/Cahill.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was shocked when I saw his name on there he hasn't been a stand out performer. Kos has been vital to our challenge this season I think our collapse sealed our fate with regards to PFA awards but still Cahill never deserved that ahead of Kos!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - you might think im biased..but i thought distin was better than the 2 of them..

27 Apr 2014 20:05:42
A question I heard on the radio: if managers are to blame for poor performances, then why are players paid so much money?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The answer is in your question Waq.

The managers are to blame for poor performances.

Don't agree with it but its a sad fact of football mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

The manager usually signs the playerin the first place. Buck stops there.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 19:59:20
As much as I dislike Mourinho, I got to say he knows how to plan games, organise/select teams, apply the right tactics for the right games. His interviews pre/post match continue to irritate me though however. Still got to give to him.

For me, Man City to win the league now, as much I have admired Liverpool's play this season, I can't be watching/hearing their fans goading about their success (finally), plus the image of seeing Suarez lifting the Prem Trophy & Brendan proclaiming keeping Suarez justified doesn't fill me with joy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Apr 2014 19:55:18
Question for you all,

Jose Mourinho, love him or hate him, the man knows how to get a result.

Is there a better tactician in the game?
They went to Anfield with an under-strength team (but still a strong one) and got a great result.

can this man change formations/set-up's better than any other manager.

So, the question is,

Can Wenger learn from him and should we adopt similar tac-tic's in the future, bearing in mind the hammerings we have had this season against our main rivals?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think he does learn Dags. To stubborn to our detriment. Also we haven't got the quality or quantity if players that is needed to do what Chelsea did today.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 18:13:08
If we win the rest of our games then that means at most we will only finish 7 points behind the top. Is that really bad?
Regardless of how the first half of the season went, if before the season started you were told we will finish 7points behind 1st and be top 4 and be in the fa cup final, would you reply by saying "wow that would be brilliant, with the money spent by all the other clubs especially city n Chelsea and we are only 7points behind would be brilliant."
Or would you reply, "what! That's bs, wenger is crap, hasn't got a clue and must go now"

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very good point Waq we'd have taken that big style after Villa at home :-)
I for one got very over excited by our pre Christmas form so the season has had a very anti climax feeling for me and to take nothing away from Liverpool I'm gutted we have been leap frogged by them.
But as you say it could have been so much worse than 4th place favorites and FA cup finalists

Agree0 Disagree0

Good question Waq,

I would be happy with 4th and FAC.

That is, after all, an improvement on the past 9 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Waq
7points behind leaders, 4th, (hopefully!) and FAC final. yes. I'd have been saying Brilliant!
nice one:)
COYG andi:)

Agree0 Disagree0

We are still fourth, still not any better, same old problems, same excuses, yes we do seem to be closer in points but still fourth. Another collapse when we were ready to win the league. Now for the lottery of qualifying again. Are we upto the standard of liverpool, chelsea and man city are we really only seven points away or are we in reality a mile away.

Agree0 Disagree0

@steve.r I couldn't agree more.

It's bad enough the board being happy with fourth but when the fans are happy with fourth you know there's something really, really messed up happening!

We spent longer in top spot than any other team, we spent £42.5M on one player, we had more money to spend but decided against it. For me this is another season of what could have been. Quite irritating to know that if things don't change this is a close as we'll get to a title for a long time.and we still got pumped by all the teams above us!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 16:47:10
What a player Matic is! Amazed we didn't look to him at all, exactly what we need.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Apr 2014 16:15:21
Excellent result for Chelsea, hopefully will keep the title away from Liverpool

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'll raise a glass to that banbury, funny how all the ones I work with are very very quiet now

might have to have a mcdonalds and i'm loving it so much

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 16:13:28
Looks like 4th again everybody. Could be another problem looming though as we still need to qualify for the CL. It may well hold us up in signing the players we need. All we buy in 4th spot is the chance to play in the CL proper. So frustrating again as far as transfers are concerned. We needed to stamp our mark on it this season where we could say we are in the CL come and play for us we have qualified. Needed that 3rd place today badly. Who would have thought Chelsea were going to roll Liverpool today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I always feel sorry for lottery winners who only scoop 3 million when last week was a 10 million roll over, I mean that's only natural to look at what you lost as a posed to what you've gained.
Every silver lining has a cloud hey GOLDBOY

Agree0 Disagree0

Goldie, don't be such a neg-head.

We regularly finish 4th and always get through the qualifying stage and i'm sure we will still attract the big signings, as long as we go for them.

Still love ya though Goldie, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope you are right mate. But then again you are getting on a bit. LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol Goldboy,

or is that golden-oldieboy?

ouch, lol

Why is there only 2 camps, the Wenger Out! Camp or the Keep things as they are! Camp? I'm in the Wenger stays, but realises that Football Economics has changed and player prices are inflated, and that's just how it us now and he also realises he needs to be less rigid in his tactics Camp.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

All hail our Lord Wenger:) hahah:P:P, I must admit I'm pleased he's staying.

on another note, that Jose M, he's the man. great tactics. poor result for the reds.

COYG andi:)

Agree0 Disagree0

I for one am pleased that Wenger has one more transfer window, just to give him the benefit .

I still am frustrated with the number of injuries we have had, even fans from other clubs acknowledge how bad our injury list was, you can't help thinking things could have been better if the list had been shorter .

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with Banbury, I think the signs were there last summer with regards to spending, we didn't sell any key players and we did try to sign players we needed: why we didn't get them is a different question.
In a recent interview in which wenger said he's going to stay he was also asked about signings and he replied we need some tenacity in the squad, because that is what we lacked in the 3 away games.
So it sounds wenger already has plans with regards to transfer activity, and plenty of rumours pointing towards signings being made before the World Cup I.e. Bender.
Hope so because next season is going to be a major battle for the top.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't get me wrong, Wengers stubbornness frustrates the crap outta me, but, I remember the bloke that came into the league and brought so much innovation. It's almost as if the financial handcuffs from the Emirates has turned him into a grumpy old man, yelling at kids to keep off his lawn. But I have this hope in the back of my mind that, with the ability to buy big names like Ozil now, that maybe, just maybe, it may light a fire in him and we see him being the proactive innovator we saw in the late 90s.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 10:26:07
Shelvey and Huddlestone have shown this season that English players are too easily discarded to make way for bigger named players from abroud.

I hope Hodgson is brave this summer and takes the younger players to Brazil because all of a sudden there seems to be a lot of very good young English players around.

Jenks Gibbs Ox Jack Theo along with Barkley Henderson Sterling Sturridge Flanagan Shaw Lalana Huddlestone (27not ancient ) Shelvey, Maybe England might just have a golden age that doesn't turn out to be fools gold this time if given a chance and handled properly.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There all good players, but there's simply no comparison to the other top teams in the world. Spain, Germany, Argentina, Italy, France, Brazil even, they all have players at a totally different level

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree Saint but France 2016? Russia 2018? Get them some experience in Brazil like Germany did in South Africa 4 years ago.
What have we got to lose? We will most likely struggle who ever we send, last 16 with lampard etc would just be another failure but last 16/8 with a team with a future might have us full of hope and pride again.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 13:19:49
Your 100% right Saint. Especially in Midfield/Attack our youth are miles behind the likes of Spain and Germany.

I personally belive Englands future attack/midfield is:

Sturridge
Sterling - Ox - Walcott
Wilshere - Henderson

With Barkley, Lallana, Jay Rodriguez, Welbeck and maybe Townsend on the fringes.

But you compare this to Germany - Rues, Bender, Gundogan, Draxler, Goetze, Schrulle, Ozil, Muller, Kherdira and Kroos.

Then there's Spain - Thiago Alcantra, Isco, Illermardi, Fabregas, Mata, Pedro, Busquets, Delofeu, Morata, Jesse Rodriguez and Munian.

Unless Ox, Sterling and Wilshere reach their full potential, we have not got a chance in the 2018 world cup or 2020 Euros.

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with you, get the oldies out! If for no other reason then to see a different style of football

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2014 09:56:28
I can't believe some people think we should let Ozil go this summer, what would that say about us if he was deemed not good enough after less than a season.
What player would fancy coming to us knowing Ozil wasn't up to our high standards.
I know its not going to happen but it does make you wonder if Arsene did splash the cash this summer how long the likes of Bender, Draxler and Benzema would get before they were also consider not good enough by some.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would anyone liked to have seen Krohn-Delhi at Arsenal. I know he is around 30 years old but every time I've seen him play he looked the business.

Didn't he die in series 2 of game of thrones?
