Pretty happy with our new keeper. Hope he can give Szczesny a good fight for the No.1 jersey which he hasn't really had since he got it.
My only worry is that he is a touch on the small side for a GK.

Did you know he is the same height at 1.83cm as Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence and a cm shorter than Gordon Banks who was 1.84cm tall.
Don't worry to much G95 :-)

Pat Jennings and Bob Wilson were only 6ft also - pretty good company I would say
Agree0

I find shorter keepers are decent whilst young as their flexibility and athleticism compensates for their lack of height. Once in their 30's they tend to go downhill fast. The top keepers in the PL, tend to be very tall. All the shorter keepers mentioned were from days gone by, the game is different now.

Claims that liverpool have put an offer forward for reus and dortmund are tempted by the high offer, and have asked reus to sign a new contract without a buyout clause or higher buyout or they may take the deal, if it fails they may look to shaqiri. I know its all over the dreaded twitter, but I read it on a couple of forums too, just wondering if he was to be made available would arsenal consider trying to capture the player, he would pair well with sanchez and walcott.

Completely unrelated to rumours etc, Eds and all
With rodriguez signing for madrid 80 odd mil, recieving back 35.7 mil or however much in shirt sales already!? So ~2 seasons he's paid for his transfer already. ( not wages etc)
Is this purely because its madrid, or do you think that premier league clubs could do similar, sign one of these outrageous players and if they are big enough name pay back their transfers.
Extreme example but Messi to arsenal,
Would he pay back his transfer fee by the time say a 5 year deal would be up?
Believable0
Unbelievable0
28 Jul 2014 00:13:26
you raise a good point batch,
definitely think it's possible, to a similar extent it's like a big name going to a smaller club = henry to new york red bulls,
seems like all the countries with teams backed by a lot of sporting money can buy former big names to promote the league and that player,
maybe not as high of a percent of his transfer fee but a sizable amount,
i think because the spanish, english, german, french leagues are already paying silly money, it's effect is multiplied. but maybe it's the equivalent but for different reasons to go to that league/club/country? something like that
Agree0
Disagree0
28 Jul 2014 00:17:09
Did they really sell that many extra shirts or they bought a shirt anyway and put his name on it
Makes them feel better I think.
Agree0

28 Jul 2014 00:42:30
Honestly think Messi would. Not only in shirt sales, but imagine the amount of 'fans' Arsenal would gain worldwide?
Agree0
Disagree0
Surely RM doesn't receive every penny of the 35mil. the club probably get 10% (for example) of all t-shirt sales
it would help recuperate some of the transfer fee but I don't see it covering 80 mil in 2 years
having said that. if RM estimate 4 mil every year for 5 years. that 20 mil and they would see that Rodriguez only cost them 60.
Agree0
Disagree0
I don't like middle age older people In football shirts especially with names in the back but if was to sign not only would my three lil boys be wearing an arsenal shirt but my self and wife would also is probably buy all three kits lol each
Agree0
Disagree0
Agreed madstone, on all parts
Agree0
Disagree0
It's well documented that, obviously they don't get the whole figure but they will get a large chunk of it.
MrD. - 4 million is a very low estimate of a players shirt at RM, they will undoubtedly get their money back in shirt sales alone for rodriguez.
I think ronaldo was paid for very quickly as well

{Ed001's Note - none of the above really. I just seem to have a happy knack for being able to talk to anyone when out. Sometimes they turn out to have connections or be involved in the game. With Wenger, partially it was down to him having the same tailor as Gerrard Houllier when he was Liverpool manager, a guy called Kiki in Windsor. Not being able to wear off the peg suits, as they never fit me at all, I started buying all my shirts, ties and suits from him for work. I just got lucky that I am friendly and Kiki did me a favour by making sure I got to meet him.}

Hi eds just wondering if there has been renewed interest in Khedira.
Just read reports that he is now looking for €9m/y which is ~£136k a week.
Could there still be a chance of a deal?
I searched and there hasn't been a mention of him in some time on the rumours page

Hi Sheeny,
I posted earlier to that effect.
Apparently he is keen, hence the drop in wage demand.
I think he is in final year of contract so Real Madrid will hopefully cash in on him.
Here's hoping.

Sadly I read this in the metro so its more likely he's increased his demands to 200,000 aw

Apparently, knickerless Bendtners move to Frankfurt is off.
He wanted £40,000 per week ( fair enough) but he also wanted £30,000 for every point they won.
Really mate?
You heard it here first.

Jack Wilshere has apologised for the “unacceptable” images of him smoking in a Las Vegas swimming pool this month and has said it will never happen again. The 22-year-old Arsenal and England midfielder, who was pictured outside a nightclub with a cigarette in his mouth last season, is well aware of his responsibilities as a role model and a parent and knows such incidents cannot keep occurring.

Dr Greeny,
What is your professional assessment of the season ahead?
Are we (Arsenal) looking fit and healthy or will you be holding our testicles and telling us to cough?

Dags, in my professional opinion, we are lacking competitive fitness and sharpness (obviously!)
We were beaten by a decent NYRB team tonight who are midway through their season.
Arsenal are missing a host of World Cup players including new signings Sanchez, Debuchy and Ospina.
All three will join the squad next week before we jet off for our customary Austrian training camp. (Put another shrimp on the Barbie and all that!)
We have the Emirates cup and the community shield to build sharpness and cohesion ahead of the opening fixture.
I will restrain from cupping anyone else's balls and asking you to cough. Makes first dates really awkward.
On a serious note, I am still very positive about the upcoming season and feel Sanchez will be AMAZING!
