Suarez, player of the year.

Agree or disagree with the decision?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its either him or sanogo.

Agree0 Disagree0

No, all the theatrics drive me mental. his honest ref I'm really hurt face is never going to win a Oscar is it.

I think I'd go Gerrard.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - until he was moved to in front of the back 4, he was awful 1404, even liverpool supporters were calling for him to be dropped!, for me yaya toure would have been a better shout mate..

Toure was always my shout. No theatrics or dirty tactics from him, and every aspect of his game is spot on.

We need a player of his caliber at Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we all do ted..

I just can't have suarez all this world class talk I think peeps need a reality check on world class

definition of world class is you are the best in your position for a world 11, and if i'm honest I think there are few in the premier league if any that meet that criteria

sorry but world class is too much of an easy phrase to band around

Agree0 Disagree0

Ouch 74,

Love him or hate him, warts and all, the guy is world class.

30 goals in 31 games in arguably the hardest league in the world.

People always rave about world class players abroad, Ronaldo, Messi, Lewandoski and Ibrahimovic, but let's start looking a little closer to home and give credit to some of the boys who play in the Prem League.

Agree0 Disagree0

I went with Gerrard simply for his move tbh, but your right on Toure if I could buy one player to put in the Arsenal team from EPL he'd be it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - like viera with a goal threat..

Toure for me too

Agree0 Disagree0

Yaya for me. Although Suarez is an excellent player, I cannot stand his diving and general cheating.

Agree0 Disagree0

Toure, Stevie G etc have been good. But credit where it's due, Suarez has been absolutely phenomenal this season. He is 1st, there is no 2nd and third. Toure would be a distant 4th in my opinion :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez the man not my favorite by a long long way, but the player? I can't remember anyone earning or deserving the award more.
Sometimes you have to put aside your personal feelings and give credit where its due

Agree0 Disagree0

I do love Suarez a little bit, he is the embodiment of everything wenger did to the premier league. He brought class, talent, excitement & maybe some cheating ducks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont know about the class bit saint, i think hes a scum bag mate...but boy can he plat footy!..

Clearly you amateurs forgot bendtner. he should have scooped all the awards, but because of his seasonal injury, he was unable to play to prove the doubters wrong yet again.

'flips table and walks away'

Agree0 Disagree0

The one that got away:

In 2003, he had a trial with Arsenal. He started in a match against Barnet, playing as a second striker. Manager Arsène Wenger recognised his talent but could not decide on his best position and described his performance against Barnet as "completely average." Wenger was still keen to sign the then-20-year old but Touré had difficulties in getting a work permit. Ultimately, Touré grew impatient and opted to sign for Ukrainian side Metalurh Donetsk instead, where he spent one-and-a-half years.

We had earlier signed signed Kolo who many of us appreciate at the time but given that choice again.

Sorry got my Maths wrong it is 11 conceded t home and 5 of those were in 2 matches .

Just need to sort out how we travel away from home

{Ed025's Note - by bus..

Just in time I was nearly going to pull you up.

Im one that thinks injurys have played apart again this season.
Look at Rambo, we missed the little welshman.
And being a true welshman, it means that while wales boycot the world cup he won't have to travel.
See you at barry island Rambo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Apr 2014 22:21:06
21 this season for Giroud, incredible to think we have only conceded 7 goals at home in the league. That is a superb record

Believable0 Unbelievable0

BANBARY
yep spot on
now inprove our away form and I think its a top 3 for us

Agree0 Disagree0

Three against Villa. Two against Swansea. Points dropped that could have kept us in the title race just a bit longer.

We can win one of the last 2

At this point I want Everton to knock City off so we can push them for 3rd and automatic qualification into the group stages

Believable0 Unbelievable0

i don't think we will have to mate
Hopefully we can rest a few now for the cup,

Forever in our shadow.

can you tell me the last time spurs finished above us, save me looking it up,
cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - dont be lazy!..

I think it was when George Graham got sacked, so 1995 or 1996 if memory serves me right.

Actually, i'm certain it was 1995 because it was just before Wenger took charge.

Gents and lady,

It has happened.

For the 2nd time this season, yes I will say it again, for the 2nd time this season, Gunner62 has got a score prediction correct.

G62, you beauty. Take a son, take a bow.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

but he dropped a bol88k with the goal scores

28 Apr 2014 21:14:27
Newcastle are so poor that its hard up believe we are playing a premiership team. Diabolical.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i agree goldie, pathetic..

But its 3 points

Agree0 Disagree0

Slightly biased opinion Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no mate..they are a very poor side, they did not even try dags, i really feel for their supporters, they are great and follow the team all over the gaff in droves...pity the team are absolute excrement..

Totally agree Ed.

The thing is, Mike Ashley is one of the richest men in England, but he just sits back, relaxes and does nothing about it.

Totally agree with your comments, their fans are an amazing bunch and any decent football supporter would feel very sorry for them.

Not often I agree with fans showing 'Sack the manager' banners, but on this occasion I do (although I have sympathy for Pardew)

Agree0 Disagree0

For me i'd be gutted being a toon fan almost as hard to take as our away form against the big boys

sick as a parrott

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - they deserve better G74 mate..

I take my hat off to the toon army they come regardless and moan a lot less than us but get done as bad if not equal away from home yet home form ain't brilliant either

i'd happily take some results above today as I love the geordies they bring it to life in london

wish we could act with their class at home but I saw the posters re pardew but they got batted down

Another strong first half. Ozil playing well. Giroud. Santi's looking good and Kos is solid.

Roll on the second half!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Im watching arsenal playing in first gear and newcastle trying to find if there is anything else beyond the reverse gear.

this team is no barometer of how we are playing right now. norwich would have made them suffer.

anyway 3 points and one game away from champions league

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2014 20:50:01
Get the third and end it

Class first half, played nice and patient

How does Giroud shoot right at Krul there? Literally right at him twice in a row

Amazing

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Apr 2014 19:50:36
Would love Loic Remy at Arsenal.

Trust me people, he would be world class.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He'd be a class second choice. If we had him, Giroud and a world class striker we would really challenge.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry mate disagree he ain't much better the giroud, we need world class not average

its the one position we truly are missing and have been spoilt by our history of recent strikers

Agree0 Disagree0

Was just thinking the same tbh

Agree0 Disagree0

His record at QPR suggests he is not average.

His record at Newcastle suggests he is not average.

Im not suggesting he would be my first choice, there are others who are better than him, but we would have more chance getting him than Costa, Martinez, Benzema etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Remy is a far better striker than Giroud

Not to hate on Giroud

Remy would be an upgrade

Agree0 Disagree0

DAGS
not seen a lot of him tonight, pace to burn, but is he a 20/25 goal machine

Agree0 Disagree0

Welsh, in an Arsenal shirt?

Yes definitely mate.

Have said it before, we could turn this guy into another Henry.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see it at all sorry but neither are good enough for arsenal we need better strikers ie the 1 chance 1 goal sort not 10 chances 1 goal

i swear it drives me nuts with the ^^^^ giroud puts in he ain't arsenal class and never will be till he gets rocket boots

STEVE
Iv heard spurs say nicer things about us, Then you

Mate, is their anything posative to come out of this year.
Let me point out a few for you to knock over
1 F a cup to look foraward to.
2 hopefully in the champions league
3 some amazing players in our team
4 great foundations that are club are built on.
5 having a manager that does not want to be the focus of it all, and slagged our manager off
Steve I agree everybody should have their say and I read most of it, but man do you worship (the portugues idiot, mate it is laffable)
im worrying that your turning into the grumpy old man that's sits in the corner and moans about everything
Good do I feel better now

Long term reader rare poster . Following Chelsea`s parking the bus on Sunday got me thinking yes that`s what we should do away from home. But we can`t do that and is why we don`t have a plan B because we have small skilful players Santi, Jack, Ozil even Theo Ox and Arteta - all completely geared to attack minded football. Compare them to Ivanovic, Mikel Lampard and Matic etc who are geared to play the type of game needed to beat the top teams away. We have tried to go toe to toe as we have not got the players to park the bus. We have said for ages BUY A QUALITY STRONG CDM - or 2 - and a QUALITY CF - or 2 - and we will challenge and have a plan B for the away games against the top teams. Just my view

Just read an interesting Stat Arsenal will finish the league with the longest time in top spot at 128 days. I think that's a major sign of progress, I still think Wenger is the man for the job though his latest interview for Arsenal TV suggests he is far too stuck in his ways refusing to acknowledge that Ramseys return has been a major catalyst for our results. FA Cup is a must now, I really think with a decent striker and a decent holding midfielder who can push forward too and we'll be laughing next season. oh and a new medical staff they seem awful

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But the one who finishes top in may will be top a lot longer that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Valley but good counter post Steve, your move Valley

Agree0 Disagree0

Valley, that stat does naff all for me and wins us nothing.

Just a pointless bit of information IMO

Sorry mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit harsh that Banbury, I thought it was a decent post

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner have you ever thought about working for the united nations.

Agree0 Disagree0

When was the last time we led the league for more than a week or two? To be fair our stint at the top was with a full squad, barring a few injuries. In fact scrap that barring our injuries taking so long we would be there or there about. My point was to show squad progress with our young players maturing, not to be cynical that we only have champs league football again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry guys but that is a poor mans shout

yippeeeee we were top of the league the longest, so what?

Dear o dear :)

Serious question for you lot with the summer window looming again. I see that speculation about us making a £40m move for Benzema has sparked up again, that means we're linked with six strikers going into the transfer window. I was just wondering, of the 6 I'm about to list, which one would you like to see at the club most and which on the least? For me it has to be this:

1) Benzema - Has proven time and again that he can turn up to the biggest of games and is a proven goal poacher. That plus his link up with Ozil will really strike fear into opposing defenders.

2) Balotelli - Workrate leaves a bit to be desired but I still think that under the right manager he'll become an absolute worldy. He's only what 23? And he's one of the most composed strikers on the ball that I've seen when he's on his game.

3) Cavani - Proven world class talent, is banging them in left right and centre even though he's mostly been played out of position. Fantastic workrate and physical presence. I only wonder after his performances against Chavski whether he's got the nerve to step up for the bigger games.

4) Diego Costa - I still think he'll end up at Chavski but he's bascially what Giroud should be. He's got pace, he's lethal in the air, composed finisher and great on the ball.

5) Jackson Martinez - Given the price, possibly the most likely signing unless Madrid break another record to sign Suarez. Basically he's the Colombian equivalent of Costa. My only concern is that he's been playing in the portuguese league. I wonder if he'll be able to step up in the Prem.

6) Mandzukic - Personally I don't want him. Too much of a Giroud type player in my view, big strong target man, bit slow, could potentially be another flop. The only reason he's got such a good record is because of the team behind him in my opinion. That and I don't really see why we'd need two of the same type of player with one being a little bit better.

What you reckon?

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree.

Agree0 Disagree0

Benzema - Most or possibly Balotelli (but only if he can sort his head out)

Mandzukic - Least, Good player but is slow and has seen better days

Agree0 Disagree0

Sadly players we are unlikely to get and unlikely to come to us I'm afraid

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2014 14:59:01
I know this isn't exactly news to us, but just looking at the points gained between all those in the top 5 of the league on "paper" doesn't make good reading.

arsenal 6 points
Chelsea 19 points
Everton 8 points
Liverpool 10 points
man city 10 points

Everton and man city have to play each other so depending on that result, lose, draw or win, they could potentially end up on : Everton 8, 9 or 11 and city 10, 11 or 13.

You have to hand to JM who knows how to get results against his rivals.

But we are poorest against our rivals, simple as that.

I know we have had some bad injuries, but even at full strength I am not convinced it would make that much difference?

We simply need a plan B or a better plan B. These teams are simply too strong where we can expect to dominate and play "our way" against them. We cannot get with that anymore like 10 years ago, too many teams have improved and/or are "subsidised" now.

Just imagine another win and couple of draws?(taking points off our rivals of course, as well as adding to ours) We would be right up there in the mix.

So Wenger- either you have to change and add more robust/thoughtful tactics against our rivals or put together a fantastic team- which will cost money.

Either way Wenger has to change *something* for us to win the PL title again imho.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Depth has been an issue, but at the same time timing of injuries has been our downfall.

Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere our main players have barely played this season, neither have they played long enough to build team chemistry.

while I do agree that some of it has been our own doing in how we setup for games, we have not added the necessary players to challenge the big teams.

Giroud being our only striker, while Eto, torres, ba are chelsea's who are second in the league.

we are two wins worse at the moment, so its not like its such a disaster of a season, its just winning the games that we should have won that has cost us.

Stoke and Villa at home come to mind.

Plan B is having a striker come off the bench to make an impact, not having a midfielder coming off the bench when the midfield is not the cause of the problem.

chelsea needed a goal against athletico who did they bring on?

Man city need a goal what do they do?

even liverpool this weekend they needed a goal, brought on sturridge and aspas.

Giroud as our only option has been the handicap, if we had even a josip drmic or a morata off the bench it would make a tremendous change.

think back when we had henry and rvp and bergkamp and how we had options in attack.

while poldi has shown recently, he is just not pacey enough to add to the frontline, neither is he a winger to supply a forward.

so once we effectively lost theo who created space by spreading the pitch effectively giving out creative players space to move, we lost the only plan B we had at the time.

i guess the summer will judge if we fix our issues or we sit back and add more midfielders not recognizing our own weakness.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been trying to point this out to people for weeks, pleased youve backed it up. Eurika!

Agree0 Disagree0

People are blaming our injuries, our bad luck, our tea lady etc but if my memory serves me right we didn't beat any top four team at all last season. I think we only got 2 points from all the games. I wait to be shot down, I've got my helmet on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steve r

What has last season got to do with it, we might as well through in a stat from Don Howe's time lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Banbury not a lot really just it seems to be a theme.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steve this year we beat liverpool
we drew with man city
we drew with chelsea
we beat everton
so that must be progress
on last year

Agree0 Disagree0

But we also got humiliated by Liverpool, smashed by City and Everton, and stuttered against Jose gang again

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to agree with Welsh, . Blimey that is rare lol :)

Anyone else think that after gerrard's clanger v Chelsea, if it was the BFG who made that mistake and slip in an Arsenal game, the tv pundits and media would have crucified him, saying he's too slow and not good enough for the PL etc etc. but because it was the media darling 'Stevie G' hardly anything gets said about a shocking lack of first touch, just sympathy.
2 faced media!

lets put on a show tonight and next week and tie up 4th before the final!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It can't be Gerrard's fault, he's English.

Obviously open to all but DG said he was bored so adressed it to him, but how many and how goood a ones can we come up with between us? Oh Ed025 if you can put your pie and pint down for 30 seconds I've a feeling you might have some good ideas on this

For me do you park the bus, do you play total football, do you play long ball, do you play possession football.
if you don't have the mixture you don't have variety and you want to watch basketball. Win the football match and you will get more people who agree your style wins and lose and you get more people who dont. This is the premier league and it is popular around the world because of its variety, not because its the best.

In the championship they get presented with a trophy and medals for APT, automatic promotion trophy.
Not for winning but for promotion. I think they should give you a trophy for fourth and getting into pre qualifiying for the champs league, then we could have put lots of dates up on our nice stadium for FFP. Not financial fair play but finish fourth place trophy.

Anyone remember the two cup finals against Sheffield Wednesday that year, I know the rest of the country has been trying to forget them ever since :-). In the FA cup George was forced to play Paul Davis even though he'd said he'd never play him again, why? to try and create a chance for Ian wright as the rest of our MF were unable to manage that between them, for me the George Graham era lasted far too long and even above the stadium and the invincibles Arsene's greatest achievement has been our reputation and the way the world of football perceive Arsenal Football club.
Its upto others how they do things but for me I never want a return to those days under Georgie boy.

Hi there gooners, I think th eds must note down everyone sayin Wilshere out. So if next season comes & he steps up. We know who those people were. Last year, it was just "Ramsey out, he's th worsed player, not good enough for th team, I dnt understand why Wenger plays him, etc". Came this season & everyone is like Rambo is my favourite player. Thots?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wilshere out is a total over reaction to me, Wilshere grow up is what I want.
Aaron got his head down and battled his way to the top, no putting his fingers up to opposition fans, no photos of him smoking and no giving his views on who should or shouldn't be able to play for England.
When Jack actually becomes a top player none of that stuff will matter but until then he needs to read the Aaron Ramsey guide on how to become a top player and stick to it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nam,

If your team plays well, its a topic of discussion.

If you team plays pants, its a topic of discussion.

If a player is Man of the match, it's a topic of discussion.

If a player plays bad, it's a topic of discussion.

If Wenger's tac-tics are good, and we win, it's a topic of discussion.

If Wenger's tac-tics are poor, and we lose, it's a topic of discussion.

Can you see the common thread here?

Agree0 Disagree0

Being Welsh, Ramsay is not going to be in the media spotlight as much as 'Jack the saviour of English football Wilshere'. This for me is the biggest problem, I think JW reads the press, buys into his own hype and thinks he's bigger/better than he really is.

I've made several posts about him recently and I'm confident (sadly) that I won't be looking at him in a years time and thinking I was wrong. He doesn't do enough on the pitch to make my starting 11, off the pitch he's a brat and he's injured far to often so I wouldn't be sad to see him depart the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Sad_Face, Young English players with Jack's potential r few. Its only wise to keep hold of him plus he loves th club. Wit better leadership from other teammates he'll come good. Seeing Ramsey step up. He'll only have to follow. Injuries on th other hand is a problem. Only way to solve tht is buyin someone (wit a bit of experience preferably) he can compete wit. One can't have too much of quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nam I'm all for keeping Jack and your right you can't have too much quality, but you can have too much praise.
Until this season no one was allowed to question Jack in any way or they got slaughtered, now he's treated the same as all the others its got to be good for him and us hopefully.
Jacks fell down and broke his crown its up to him what comes tumbling after

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - love that last phrase G62, you may make an editor in the future with that sort of penmanship mate.. :)

Thanks Ed it gave me the idea for the post I just sent, thought we could have some fun with a few of them between us all

JW made his debut almost 6 years ago. In those 6 years he has not progressed at all. Held back by injuries and a bad attitude.

Compare his first 6 years to those of Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard or even Rooney and you'll see that JW cannot be considered world class.

Sorry Gunners but JW is a waster and I'd confidently bet that he does not fulfil his potential.

Also love th last phrase. Funny but true

@gunner62, he really needs tht book. Wil do him good. Ramsey really improved, had support from th manager & few fans. Rest critize him. Totally not th way to go about.

@dagenham gunner, yeah I see th thread, whn we lose we need to blame someone. No more backin th team & supportin th players when we lose. Its football, never too easy

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but frank lampards first 6 years were poor, at west ham, with a belly as big a fat sams. he survived off his dads reputation and got his arse in gear and made himself better.

jack is similar except the praise he earned has been entirely his own

{Ed025's Note - thats a bit harsh on frank GI. he has been a top player for many a year mate, and deserves credit..

18th century football he called it when west ham put their double decker in neutral at the boot sale stadium, now he adopts the same tactics in big games and is a modern day genius.
The truth is every one is entitled to play how they see fit and its only down to their own fans/board to decide if its acceptable or not.
I dislike mourinho very much but he gets results a bit like big Sam Tony Pulis and George Graham its results at any cost, the only difference is mourinho spends millions when others spend peanuts

Question. How many top strikers in the £30 million plus bracket do you think we would be able to secure for next season. This is not a question on who you would like! But a question on whether we could genuinely attract them to play for us. Before we actually go into the qualifiers for the CL.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If they were really keen on coming an extra game wouldn't worry them, we have never failed before so only a real pessimist would be put off and who would want some one who thought like that. So its not a problem either way

Goldie,

I agree with G62 mate.

I think our record over the years has proved our ability to get past the qualifier without too much problem.

I hope you all don't mind,

I just want to use this page as a special dedication to one of my favourite comedians, who unfortunately, is no longer with us.

Every time I saw him on TV, he made me laugh.
Every word he uttered was so funny and comical and made me and my mates laugh and laugh and laugh.

Everything he did was just so comical and funny and had disastrous consequences, but it made you split your side laughing.

I will never forget the joy he brought, to millions of people around the country.

He has sadly moved on but I will never forget the good times.

Good luck in your new job, David Moyes.

He will be sadly missed.Ha Ha

Ok, the keyword at the moment is 'parking the bus'.

Do we or don't we?

Is Mourinho a tactical genius or a footballing Satan?

Is win at all cost the way forward?

I watched the Liverpool/Chelsea game, as a neutral of course, and was bored to tears.

But, from Mourinho's point of view, job done and the title race has been blown wide open.

Funny enough, he has probably done Man City more of a favour than Chelsea.

Do we adopt these tac-tics? If we did at The Etihad, Anfield, Goodison Park and Stamford Bridge, we would be playing Newcastle tomorrow night with one hand on the League title.

Mourinho, hate him or hate him, has beaten Liverpool and Man City home and away this season, that's 12 points taken from their main rivals, add to that the 4 points against Arsenal, and I'm surprised they are not champions.

Their downfall? not parking the bus against the smaller teams, like Stoke, Palace, Sunderland, etc.

Do you park the bus and get a free-ride to 3 points or go gung-ho and get stuffed?

Allardyce does it at West Ham and gets booed by his own supporters, even if they win (against Hull).
Tony Pullis did it at Stoke for years (with his long ball tactics thrown in) and gets the sack.

Mourinho does it at Chelsea (with a much more expensive squad) and is heralded a tactical genius (myself included).

So, where do we stand on this?
Are these tactics killing the game?
Will stadiums start to empty or are we a 'It doesn't matter just as long as we win culture'?

PS, before you answer, have a good think.
If you are old enough to remember the George '1 nil to the Arsenal' Graham era, than think carefully before you post.

Over to you boys and girl and would be interesting to see what the Eds think.

I think it's something that if used occasionally like Mourinho this season away in big games is fine.
But where pulis and allardyce got it wrong was using it all the time.
And if everyone did it then football will not be the biggest sport world wide. People pay lots of money to watch football, especially for entertainment and this is backed by the fact that the most followed clubs world wide I.e. Barca, Madrid, arsenal, Manu, Liverpool, Milan, bayern all play attractive football.
And if I'm not mistaken didn't Mourinho get sacked by Chelsea because of the football he got his team playing?
This season I think Chelsea have played some very good football, so for this season he is a tactical genius especially yesterday's result.
But to do that on a regular basis week in week out, seriously who would watch that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hayes Groves Alison and Jenson and champions v Ozil Ramsey Ox Wilshere and 4th.
Personally I'd take 4th Rather than return to the 1nil boring boring Arsenal days.

Its about 38 games over a season to sit through and at the end of it the players and club get a trophy and millions of pounds as for the the fans? Surely entertainment and pride is their reward
