Never get excited about friendlies and results, results 99% of the time meaningless. You obviously don't want to get hammered in any game but wins draws and defeats should be pretty irrelevant, as with performances but. This kid Guendouzi though, looks like a real find, a very good player sticks out, and he sticks out. Maybe save us a few bob on nzonzi. Its very early days but i think Dick is grooming him to start the season, he's getting a lot of playing time and he is the stand out player of all the youngsters.

We beat City in friendlies in the two previous pre seasons and look what happend once the serious stuff started.
I'm sure psg won't be panicking over this result and neither would I if we'd lost 5 1 it's a warm up dress rehearsal nothing more or less than that.
Community shield wins tell us nothing about the season ahead and that's about the nearest you can get to a proper game during the friendly season.
Lots of players get a run out but some of them won't ever see the bench once the premier league starts.

Agree gunner, its just fitness but that boy looks good, very good. I know he has only been playing in the french second devision but he has been playing grown ups football and it shows.

Kante was playing in the same league 2 seasons before joining Leicester and Mahrez 1 season before his move there.
I'm not dissing anyone but it's the premier league we are asking them to play for us in and that's where they need to prove themselves.
If preseason friendlies were the name of the game then happy days but we all know they are a world away from the real deal.
We need some of these young players to do a Rashford or Ali and do the business rather than just suggest they might one day be able to.

Too right gunner, they have to be good enough to want to be the man. This kid wants it, he's got but can he prove it?

Hes got it, can he prove it.

Remember Reece Oxford winning mom against us 4 seasons ago on opening day mate? Now if he'd been one of players we'd have been giving him a 15 year contract on 100k a week:-)
The thing is we really need to see some of our boys make the grade in a big way because their predecessors have all failed to live up to their billing and I'm sure things will improve under Dick regarding youngsters but it will take time for the old ways to be forgotten and new ones to become the norm.

Really impressed by him, very composed, always looking for the ball, I don't think he wasted a pass.

28 Jul 2018 19:53:15
That’s the thing with youngsters you will have to show them big dick so they know they have to pump it up harder. 😂.

Should Eddie Nketiah be promoted to 1st team squad and Wellbeck sold. I know we only tend see him in cup games or friendlies but he impresses me everytime. Much more dangerous than Wellbeck.

On the Nketiah front I definitely think so. When was the last time Arsenal had so many promising and exciting youngsters in the system? Nelson especially looks every bit the part. Hope he sees his fair share of first team action this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 15:48:08
Yeah some promising young players like Simth-Rowe and Nelson question is can Emery turn that potential into reality long term because it seemed that Wenger lost that ability late in his reign.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 16:34:39
Wenger has left a nice legacy for Emery to build on.

We need some youth players to actually become premier league regulars who other too clubs wish they had again. Fab was the last youth product that had others drooling over him while in an Arsenal shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 17:31:14
Eddie might get some league cup games, along with a few others that need big boy games to see if they are big boys or not.

Maitland-Niles deserves a shout at left back. Performed more than admirably there while filling in last season and it looks like there will be more opportunity for game time in that position than central midfield for the lad. Add a little more defensive discipline to his game along with his pace, willingness to go forward and his crossing ability and Arsenal could have a very effective player in that role!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

28 Jul 2018 14:44:10
Not left back think central midfield is his position. certainly a worthy member of the 1st team squad though and battling now with Guendouzi for that position long term into the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 17:23:33
He looked lost there last season at premier league level.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 17:32:27
He isn't a left back and shouldn't be messed around.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 18:22:43
The premier league is tough enough in your natural position to make the grade and almost impossible for a young player to make it in a weaker position.
I'm my opinion he's not yet upto it in midfield so why make it even more difficult for him playing at left back.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 19:34:48
The two of you are terribly short-sighted. The lad has all the attriubutes to succeed in that role and he’s already performed admirably in emergency duty there. Think he’d be excellent if left back become his sole focus and it also happens to be arguably the squads weakest position currently. Keep in Mind some of the best full backs have been transitioned from other positions like Phillip Lahm, Dani Alves and Layvin Kurzawa.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 19:40:39
Not really, he is young a midfielder and he is predominantly right footed. Wether it is a weak position for us or not, we should be playing a left back at left back. Wenger messed many a player up playing them out of position and exposing them. I doubt Dick will do that.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 19:49:58
It's a big ask of a lad who hasn't looked like a world beater at premier league level in his natural position Q, shortsighted or realistic to what is likely rather than a nice idea that at present looks extremely ambitious.
He got the run around big time in his last premier league game at left back which is why it was his last game there mate.
Maybe it will happen one day but I think his best chance of making it is in central midfield and even that is going to be tough for him.

Lucas Torreira was a striker up until he was 17 or 18 now he’s considered one of the brightest defensive midfielders in Europe. It’s a good thing his managers didn’t say “he’s a striker so by god that’s where we’ll keep him! ” All I’m saying is the lad possesses all the attributes to thrive in that position and it would be foolish not to give him a try considering what we have at the position currently is dodgy at best! Like i was saying, you’re short-sighted on this one.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 20:08:34
I’m sure the transition is going to have some hiccups along the way but in all likelihood they’re not playing for a title this season anyway so groom the kid for that role then in the future when, hopefully, they're ready to challenge for the title you got the next David Alaba!

Jose is running scared already suggesting Klopp and Liverpool have to win the title after spending so much money in the last 12 months :-)
Talk about trying to deflect pressure away from himself.

Jose is going into his 3rd season with United and after spending? But his team is still viewed as the most boring in the country and is a very very a long way from toppling city.

I can see why Jose might want to heap pressure on others because to me he looks the least likely manager in the premier league to still have his job this time next year.

To be fair - Klopp has spent a fortune and pressure should be on the messiah. Pile the pressure on them. Liverpool expect and so they should with the level of expenditure.

Jose - 🚌🚌🚌🚌🚌🚌🚌🚌🚌🚌. Plus one up front. 🦕 in the making. Can’t he remember how lucky he was at Chelsea with all that money when he mocked Wenger!

Looking forward to overtaking Utd and Chelsea this season and seeing how we compete against Liverpool and Spurs. Both of whom now must have questions asked about trophies and actually winning something.

Mourinho’s time is quickly coming to a close at United. Players don’t seem to like him, neither do the supporters. Be surprised if he makes it to the new year.

To be fair to Liverpool with the Continho and other sales how much is there net spend? 150 millions?
Wow Klopp has wheeled and dealed well to turn a Europa league Liverpool who were now where near to a serious challenge into most people's 2nd favorites for the title in what 2 and half seasons?
I'd say Jurgen is safe beyond question even if they don't challenge City.

Believe Wenger turned an ordinary side into double winners in 1 season 😂😂😂.

mourinho seems immune to irony! he got the jibe in early before he had spent much this window, but if he ends up spending £65 mil on maguire or another CB and £75 mil on willian he's going to of out spent klopp in this window. far out spent him in the time they've both been here and probably out spent pep over all! he won't have a leg to stand on!

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Jul 2018 14:50:23
Just mind games when you consider Moureen is looking at paying 65Million+ for a defender from Leicester and already spend over 50million on a Brazillian reserve midfielder. Sure Liverpool have spent a lot but they will be much stronger for it. You need a top class keeper to win the league and they have that now.

Silly mind games though Ryan because he's the favorite to underachieve on every level again this season so could do with keeping his head down.

It's all eyes on Jose more than ever now Steve, he's the one who simply has to deliver next season and do it with a lot lot more style too.
Pep Jurgen and Poch are safe no matter even if they finish 5th but even another second place wouldn't save Jose if he plays the bus next season, 1st with the bus is the only way for him and that looks very very unlikely to happen.
