Anyone ever noticed how much Martin keown and Lee Dixon look like a young Righteous brothers? Uncanny.
Steve I think I mean Righteous brothers or it could be the Everly brothges or bros :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's the Righteous brothers. As I said to Giroud when we were going through our rocky patch, "You don't close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips."

I see that this morning we're being linked with a £44 million bid for Arturo Vidal, I think the money is a bit high but I do hope this is true, Vidal would be one of the missing pieces to the Arsenal puzzle. World Class holding midfielder.

Also still being linked with Morata and Balotelli.

Eds, can you verify these Vidal links? and What's the latest on the others?

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Juve want to hold on to Vidal.}

28 Jun 2014 19:12:17
Would like to say for all of those who state we cannot attract players of the ilk of Pogba, Sanchez et al let me state.

- We signed Ozil and Suarez wanted to join us.

- Our manager would be signed by Real Madrid or Barcelona in a heartbeat and is a huge draw to players.

- We have world class stadia, facilities and are loaded.

Believe we will buy BIG this season despite some of the early work done by the likes of Chelsea, Man City and Manchester United that is because of the targets we hold are genuinely World Class.

I am putting £20 on us winning the league as 10/1 will not be the odds after the summer we will have.

;)

28 Jun 2014 19:38:26
Its one thing having it.

Its another thing spending it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brilliant post Hackney I hope all your predictions come true and you collect £2000 in fact I might just copy you and risk £20 myself on the strength of your post mate, very motivating

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 20:22:08
I'm with you 100% Hackney,

We also made a big bid for Draxler but he decided to stay put, his loss me thinks.

People struggle to let go of what was a period of austerity to get us to this position.

I say smile ffs we are the Arsenal and fourth and no trophies is history!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 20:36:21
Suarez probably only wanted to sign for us because he knew if there was the hint of a profit to be had we wouldn't think twice about selling him to Barca or Madrid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner maths obviously not your thing. Or betting isnt.

28 Jun 2014 22:42:52
Lol Steve,

I wish G62 was my bookie.

Oooops good spot steve ;-) actually the maths is usually ok its the rest of me that's usually a bit off the mark.
Luckily I'm not a regular at the bookies but guess they wish I was :-)

GUNNER62. Had to laugh at that mate sorry. It could have been a typing error but anyway.
You couldn't lend me £100 and I will give you the £10 back when I see you? Ok :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Golds I'd love to hide behind the typing thing mate but sadly at the time of going to press it made sense to me :-( on the £1000 you want to borrow yeah that's fine mate just pay me back at £1 a week for a month if your ok with those terms! I wouldn't want to you to think I was trying to take advantage or anything :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jun 2014 12:09:22
GUNNER62. To save time and energy. Bring the £1000 with you when I see you and instead if messing about paying you £1 a week for a month I will just give you the £4 and that's us settled. Or you can just give me £996 if that's easier mate. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not fooling for that one gold's, you must think I was born tomorrow!
I tell you what I'll give you £1000 week for 12 weeks making a total of 22000 and that's my final offer

Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal are absolutely quality and are running the show!

Sign em up Arsene!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would rather james (Rodriguez) and cuadrado to be honest

28 Jun 2014 17:36:42
Would I be asking too much for Sanchez and Vidal?

Then Remy, centre half, Aurier and a goalie?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jun 2014 19:05:41
Totally agree but if you swap Vidal for Schneiderlin I would be just as happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sanchez for me is, dare I say it, world class!

He's amazingly quick, powerful, scores goals, presses and tackles back. All round team player with an eye for goal.

He would be brilliant for us.

Vidal is an enforcer that we need to replace Arteta. Him alongside Rambo would be amazing IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 16:56:33
Hi guys, I thought this would be an interesting topic with lots of varying opinions. Do you consider Sagna an Arsenal legend? He played seven years for us, the best years of his career. He was brilliant during most of these years. he played 284 games for us.

With these facts in mind for me he's without a doubt a legend who deserves a place in our history as one of the greatest Arsenal defenders. In my opinion the move to City doesn't matter either. I wish him well even though he plays now for one of our rivals. After all he gave us seven years winning only one trophy, many players of his quality would have left a lot earlier.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jun 2014 21:54:27
I would call him a semi-legend.

A diet coke legend.

A fat free legend.

A no added sugar legend.

You get the point.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags when is the bronze being commissioned? Sagna waving goodby as he signs a 150'000 a week contract at city he can go in the car park with Van Pussy, Cashley and Na$ri :)

{Ed025's Note - its not all about money baz!...oh yes it is..

28 Jun 2014 15:13:57
Have we shown any interest in Emmanuel Emenike or Musa?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - MOTD fever as ED002 would say

Topjoey, did you even know who Musa was before the World Cup? because I honestly didn't! Scored two great goals against Argentina but MOTD fever indeed me thinks.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 21:29:40
Know Musa in Football Manager (13 I think). Got him for free but a year later Liverpool want to buy him for 20m.

Hollo gooners. a lot ofyour guys posed on our site (liverpool) during the season so thought I would have a go over here. a lot of use really want vidal this is just for fun and to see how highly you rate the kid

Would you still want vidal to happen if it meant getting rid of ramsey?

Not saying the two players are related in any way just curious how high you rate your little welshman.

P.S no hard feelings about the hammering use got at anfield ;-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Arturo Vidal would be a wrong buy! We have Aaron, Jack and Alex who can play that role!

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not swap Ramsey for Suarez let alone Vidal. No worries mate we will return the favour this season.
By the way great assist by gerrard when Suarez scored v England

Agree0 Disagree0

In my opinion Vidal would be bought to replace Arteta or Flamini. Answer to your question a big NO.

Agree0 Disagree0

If any one thinks Vidal would be a bad buy they clearly have never seen him play, he is the best box to box midfielder on the world and would easily fit into our team imagine him and Ramsey with ozil infront of them

Agree0 Disagree0

Glad to see you guys stick by your man fantastic player would pick him over any other in your team. And maidstone gooner, gerrard might have made the mistake but what about our little raheem?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 17:43:47
Can't believe you don't want Vidal!

All day long and would replace plus upgrade Arteta and Flamini

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 18:24:48
Wow none of u would swap any of your midfielders for Vidal? Imo he is the most complete midfielder in the world! that's no slight on Ramsey Wilshire etc but this guy would improve ANY team he joined!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 21:57:00
Lfcste,

I wouldn't swap Rambo for anybody mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 12:45:54
Hi eds, in the past 3 days I've seen 3 defensive midfielders be linked with us again, which are we most interested?

Apparent 21 million bid for Leverkusen bender

44 million bid to be made for Vidal

Schneiderlin

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - Schniderlin from those 3, I know nothing about this apparent interest in Vidal

28 Jun 2014 07:58:58
Any interest in any of the boateng brothers ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - not from us mate, no

28 Jun 2014 22:55:22
Alright mate, fellow stones fan here!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 10:55:21
Is the interest in Vidal just paper talk

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Apparently Arsene has said he is interested which is good, some action would be ideal but in its absence a bit of communication and reassurance from the club wouldn't go a miss!
I know we can't say who we're chasing as others will be alerted and all that rubbish but it would be nice if someone came out and said we will fill these or those positions this summer guaranteed

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 09:50:14
Ed's, do you get to choose what number ed you are? If so, why on earth has no one chosen ed-209 so far!

You have twenty seconds to comply.

You have 15 seconds to comply.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - we dont pick..but if we did mate that would be a good one.. for a science fiction nerd.. :)

28 Jun 2014 09:12:54
I seriously do not know whom to pick between Bender, Gustavo and Vidal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - thats what they pay arsene for joey..

Vidal, bender, Gustavo in that order

Vidal, Vidal, Vidal. In that order.

That is what arsene is probably thinking.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 08:10:39
Pretty confident that that it was not van gaals idea to bid for Herrera back in January and I'm pretty sure that shaw was not his personal choice of how to spend 30m so what I am saying is deals are in place just need the players back from international dutys to sign, let mr arsene play beach volley ball and have a lil perv of the Brazilian beuties for a moment as I know that he will deliver. Coyg

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If, we can land reus, that's hoping suarez goes to barca so they can't afford reus now or in the near future, then perhaps we stand a chance.

Khedira or Bender over Schenidelin or Gustavo.

and ginter at CB.

what I think I am saying is just sign the damn germans.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 06:59:47
Eds could you post this on the Banter page please.
Thoughts on Luke Shaw transfer to United.
What do I know? but to me if you put a £30 million price tag and a reported wage of more than £100,000 a week in wages on a guy that isn't quite 19 yet and a left back too boot, you are putting a massive psychological pressure on a young man to perform.
With that sort of figure riding on him at such a young age it is ridiculous. The expectations are going to be immense.
Isn't it at this point that someone eventually has to step in one day and say " Hold on a minute these tranfer prices are now getting out of hand ".
We read all the time about developing young players well I think at his age he is still doing that. The powers that be have got to begin to realise that in reality Luke Shaw is just on 3 years from officially leaving school for crying out loud!.
What happens if he doesn't perform to his price tag? Can a person of his age mentally handle the backlash that is sure to follow?.
let's face it £30 million is above decent money to pay for a player in any position but a left back that's not quite 19 yet tells me that these transfer fees are now getting way out of hand to the point of becoming controlling of another human being.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im with you all the way golds, for me there should be a cap on wages for players under 21, these are just kids after all...if someone gave me a tenner when i was a kid, you can be sure that i would squander it on things that were either bad for me or a total waste of money...like an everton season ticket.. :)

28 Jun 2014 08:42:26
Hello mate. It's ridiculous Ed 025.
How much would United be paying if he was 23 and a proven player then?.
You couldn't guess at it really could you.
You know as well as I do that the pressure at such a young age can burn him out mentally. i'm not saying it will but let him enjoy his football without having to worry about his worth in pound notes.
I think I can comment on how a normal young guys mind works as I have 4 of them from 19 to 16. Three of them were at professional academy's and by choice two decided to pursue other avenues. So I know what it's been like for Luke Shaw on his journey. These academy's are pressure pressure pressure for the young players then all of a sudden you make it and then bang! another load of pressure to cope with.
One thing they always say at academy's which makes me laugh is " it's important for them to enjoy their football "
Really!? What when they start giving a 9 year old a diet sheet! Then a little while later on scanning them to determine how tall they will be?
Funnily enough I know somebody who's son was one of the best footballers I had ever seen he played with my eldest son in a team in Middlesex up to he was 9.Matter of fact they wrote a book about this kids uncle 'The Greatest Player You Never Saw'. When this boy was just 9, he is now 19, he played like a 14 year old. The ball would be kicked out by the goalkeeper he would control it like a man go round the other kids like they were stuck in cement and smash it in the top corner of the net and I mean smash it.
They moved to Southampton he joined a local Sunday team and by coincidence the Southampton scouts were there. This boy was so good that Southampton didn't even bother giving him the normal six week trial they signed him on immediately. A few months later I bumped into his step dad and asked him how Robin was getting on and he said that he had to pull him out. I was surprised but then he explained to me how it went and why. " They have got him training 3 times a week he is getting home at 9.30 at night then has to get ready for bed and school the next day. He has to travel all over the show for matches at the weekend and to top it all now they have given him a diet sheet he is only 9 years old. If they still want him at 14 they can let me know but for now I'm going to let him enjoy growing up."
All of a sudden the game a kid likes playing has become like a job at 9 years old. It's out of hand.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - cracking story that golds, i used to referee U12,s games in liverpool, and you could see the pressure on the kids then, even from their parents! so i know what you mean mate..

28 Jun 2014 09:38:53
And god forbid they get an injury after showing such promise including caps for England then with all the pressure they've been through to prove themselves, they work hard to get back from that, probably even thinking it could be a career threatening injury, you then get some mug of a fan slating them, saying the club should cash in on them.

Slate them for using Social Media, I mean no young kids are using that as part of growing up, it's not a natural thing for young people to use. I mean what young kid doesn't try alcohol or maybe cigarettes or have an xbox, is any of that part of growing up, well depends how selective you want to be I guess.

Hell they might want to have kids themselves and the pressure that goes with it, but hey they're superhuman, nothing effects them, they just need to play football, but they've been put up there on a pedestal by club and fans so let's knock them off it.

Let's heap the pressure levels up, don't give them time, just cash in, move them on!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 10:20:43
I'm not saying this for affect as I am far from this sort of person. My eldest son was asked by the manager directly, which is a rarety, of a pro team when he was 16 he is now 19, to come and join his club.
I know he would have probably been ok but it was not my call.
I asked to my son what he wanted to do .
He replied " Dad I've got my GCSEs coming up and how am I going to be able to travel 40 miles each way three times a week and matches of a weekend. I know what happens, I can get to 19 and I get released and I end up with no qualifications. So he turned it down . I kind off understand him. Unless you have been there and seen it its really hard to judge. All that glitters is not always gold!.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he seems like a very savvy kid golds..

My niece's son has been with a premier league club since the age of 6 and is now 14 and although things still look good for him he and the family have missed out on so much of a normal life over the last 8 years its ridiculous.
From the age of 8 or 9 he was expected to travel abroad without his parents for tournaments and cried with fear doing so that's no way to treat a kid.
Yes if he makes the big time hell be loaded but at what price a childhood and what if he's released at 16 or17?
I wouldn't let my kid go through that at 14 is plenty soon enough to get serious about commitment not 6

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 13:25:01
My whole point being that Jack Wilshere has been through all of that with the addition of an injury which he still finds himself trying to get back from yet still people are climbing all over him. Unphuckingbelievable!

Agree0 Disagree0

30 mill for a Left back is madness, wouldn't be too happy if Wenger was to do that

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 15:56:41
Stoner. We understand what you are saying mate. But there has to be a point at which a club has to look at the situation and make a descision. On what they are going to do with a player. When you go to a pro club you are on trial and the reality is that you are always! on trial. Difference is with football, especially in the premiership, if you are released you probably have earned enough money to live the rest of your life in a way that most people would could only dream
of.
From an early age academy's make no bones about it if your form drops or you are constantly injured your place is not ever guaranteed.
Of course it's tough starting off as a kid and working your way up the ranks and all the trials and tribulations that go with it. But isn't life like that?. Difference is footballers have chosen a career where people are going to point the finger at them. Unfortunate but it's a fact of life.
If you are I could earn 50-80 grand a week minimum for 10 years and have to turn it in I don't think we would be complaining too much would we mate.
To be honest I don't know why I'm explaining this I know you are not stupid but can you see what I'm saying?.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 20:15:34
Yes GOLDBOY I can but sometimes circumstances dictate that we allow some a little more slack than they sometimes get mate.

I know it's often quoted but Ramsey was castigated by many when it was only time he needed.

Jack may fail but what they go through and work for individually for the Arsenal, as your posts indicate, for me starting from the youth system says we should give them that slack.

Players like Santos and Bendtner who clearly can't be arsed get pretty much everything they deserve.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 20:49:36
I'm with you Stoner, critism of of Jack is ridiculous, Ramsey was in the exactly same boat and look at him now, if anything Jacks had more to deal with.

30 mill is ridiculous and not because he is a teenager more so I don't actually believe he's that outstanding a player, yet!
But I guess that's it though, rather than let him develop and go to city or Chelsea tie him down now and pay pay a premium so you don't lose him to a rival.

As for the young player argument, I have a customer who is around 21-22 has been at a premier league side since he was 14, has 300k house, 4 very nice cars and a good wage. and appears to have no ambition to get in the first team or play, actually said once that he hates going to the games as a sub as it ruins his weekends with his mates, it's a job and nothing else to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 21:41:25
1404. I will tell you why they say its a job to a lot of them. That's because the fun has been played out of the game for them from when they were kids
3 times a week training away games at the age of 7 upwards.
It's really hard to get a kid motivated after 4 or 5 years of that.
You try getting a 12 year old excited after 5 years constant pressure from parents and club about playing football. I know I've been there and seen many kids that have been bored to death of it in the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - fair point golds..

29 Jun 2014 01:51:08
Yep, all very valid points and sadly very true.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have tried to pursued him golds.

only because you can gain qualifications at any age. definitely easier at his age. but being a professional footballer is still a career, and one not everyone can take up!

but it all depends on how good he was and is? is he still any good? never too late to get noticed!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2014 06:22:32
I understand that Manchester United could look a bit more familiar to last season with these players.

Welbeck
Anderson
Nani
Kagawa
Evra
Rooney
Shaw

Not in any particular formation but they do make up a big part of the club.

Alright you ugly lot! Been a while since I posted.

Just a few thoughts on the recent signings made by other clubs.

I'm not getting too disheartened by the fact we have signed anyone yet. I'm confident that we'll sign some quality players but you know what Wenger is like when it comes to keeping his cards close to his chest.

But look at the signings the others have made.

United - Shaw, payed well over the odds for a 19 year old who is still well in the development stages of his career. And Herrera, a good signing but I wouldn't call him a world class player by any means. His stats on paper look far from impressive.

Liverpool - Lambert, great addition but again not world class by any stretch of the term. Lallana (not a done deal but it's just a foregone conclusion), a very good young player, but I think it will take time for him to make a real impact in the Liverpool squad. If they get Shaquiri though, that is a cracking signing.

City - Fernando, a squad player when you consider the talent they already have in that position. Sagna, in it for the money, will play second fiddle to Zabaleta, mostly cup games I reckon.

Chelsea are the only side that's made signings that really worry me. Costa, Fabregas and Felipe Luis, arguably in the top 10 in the world at there respective roles. They've really gone for it this summer. And they're still looking for a centre back and strike partner for Costa.

Other than that, the rest of our main rivals have made signings that seem a bit half arsed to me. van Gaal is buying players on the premise of their hype or the fact that United failed to sign them last season by the looks of things. Rodgers has a fetish for Southampton players who would be squad players at Arsenal, City or Chelsea and City are just reinforcing their squad, they've done good business but I don't see it making an immediate of distinctive impact on them.

I still have hope and faith lads! And Wenger is in Brazil, granted he's been snapped gawping at birds and playing volleyball but I have a feeling he's there for more than just a holiday.

Meanwhile I'm just going to enjoy the football on display at the World Cup.

Peace

{Ed025's Note - good post that CIG, ...but less of the ugly lot, myself and flybo are babe magnets, but if you are referring to dags...its ok..

28 Jun 2014 10:01:12
Great post fella,

Way to much flapping going on, I'm not sure of Costa, scored 27 in La Liga for the Champions in what is a way easier league. Not been overly impressed with him to be honest.

Cesc will no doubt be a good addition but loved ed001's right up on him, that added to what Jens said, Arsene is not stupid.

City are the team to beat but have a really good feeling that our new guys will be spot on.

Not sure why people wanted Balotelli though, he was one the the main reasons City handed the title back to United and at a best 14 goals in a season he ain't exactly the 30 goal a season striker were looking for. City did not have a shabby midfield supplying him.

As for United, Shaw a great buy for anyone and he and Herrera will be World Class in a week, well probably are already according to some of them. Lol.

That is the 24yr old Herrera whose yet to get a cap for Spain isn't it?

Great to get the trophy last season and onward and upward this season.

Wow golds! Spooked much lol

Dnt worry i'm sure there are some 2nd division French players still knocking around mate.

28 Jun 2014 12:26:35
Hey CTR,

it's not who is world class it's who we make out is world class, completely different thing mate and you know you boys are the best at making your boys World Class :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

United will do well this year because they are playing half the games everyone else is and now they have a world class international coach who has a special relationship with their striker, if he doesn't get banjaxed again. But even Van Gaal has a rep of wearing out his welcome after a year or two.

I remember everyone* here having the vapours last year when them down the road bought 7 players and Soldado and Lamela were suddenly just the kind of players we needed. The way this club does business drives us Gooners mad but it's all part of being a Gooner, something you seem to have missed. Don't let a few Arsene out! posters fool you, but thanks for dropping by.

*not really everyone

Dnt u worry guys if dags has his way ure team will be filled with top players in the mould of Remy ;-)

I think its just a suprise to every1 on our page that we are strengthening area's that have needed it for years! Once the shock of that calms down every1 will go back to salivating over the next unknown ligue 2 player arsene signsw ;-)
