General Question

Looking for sensible answer to a sensible question, with everything and anything being insured including J'Los legs and bum.

SURELY, footballers are insured against injurys etc and therefore does it really effect a clubs financies? If the insurance company is paying the bills.

If I were a footballer I would be taking out the very best insurance on myself just like the celebs do.

Gooner4life

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Insurance ain't free. The more injury prone the player the more the insurance costs, so regardless of what deaks in pkace the club is haemorrhaging money keeping Diaby
AG

Agree2 Disagree0

If one pays enough premium you are right most things one can get an insurance policy for. I know that clubs have insurance for if a player gets injured on international duty. I don't think that they have policies for injuries whilst at the club. (educated guess) the main thing this are the premiums worth It. Diaby could well have premiums of about half his wage he is so injury prone so it may not be worth it.

Hello everyone. It's been a while since my last post. I needed a break from my negative posts that were starting to creep in, plus I was away where wifi was non excistent due to the air being contaminated from the collective nervous energy from spud fans. Lasagne anyone?
First up, which has been mentioned in previous posts, gutted for diaby. A fully fit Diaby week in week out could have dominated the Arsenal and French midfield, but alas another heart breaking injury for the lad. I worry not just for his physical health, but his mental health also. Wish him all the best whether we see him in a Arsenal shirt again or not.
Received one of those annoying bloody phone calls today asking me if I was interested in Diaby glazing. Sorry that was too soon, and c##p come to that.

Games after an international break is always tricky. Especially when your opponents don't have many if any players who have been away. Add to that new manager syndrome, but we're at home and would rather our fixture then the spuds. The fight for top 4 looks far more positive then it looked a month ago. The spurs run is far harder then ours, plus that Thursday night thing that tries to be like the Champions league, but isn't. Any mental hang ups over former years of bottling it will hopefully continue their annual pin in a bouncy castle period. If we don't get fourth then we don't deserve it. ( you get what I mean)
All the best everyone, if you read it all you will be rewarded in the afterlife.
AS EVER, COME ON YOU GOONERS!

You say that Reading had barely any players away on international duty. This is wrong as they had at least 6 players away and there best 3 players had at least 11 hour flights on wednesday plus there outward journey and played 2 games in South america.

Hey Malaga, cheers for the post. Despite the abuse aimed at HB I think our teams share a common respect - I know I have posted on here in a positive way but the RVP transfer probably didn't help matters. I particularly enjoyed teasing Stoner abut how highly I rate Wilshere. I'm interested in whether the majority of fans still have faith in AW or whether you think it's time for him to go.

HB,

When you come over to the Arsenal page and try and be smart you always fail big time. Everyone knows Evra is a total w anchor and US Gooner was simply saying how well some of our players had played.

Evra has played like a muppet all season no matter where you great team are.

Finally next time also grow a set and use your proper name, I know it's embarrassing Honeybadger. Actually amazed you've had time to pop over you're so far up Kloots ar5e.

Gav the plank

Believable10 Unbelievable0

Evra has been very good going forward but his defending hasn't been great.

he's had a better season than your defense though.

JK92

Agree1 Disagree1

That's right, your players have played so well you are challenging for trophies aren't they? I'm not saying Evra isn't past his best but he has more trophies than the whole of your squad and will be picking up at least 1 more this year. HB makes reasonable points and gives credit where it is due, he's a level above your infantile mind my friend. I like a banter with other fans as well but when it sinks to insults sometimes it's necessary to point out a few home truths. You are indeed a plank.

AJH

Agree5 Disagree8

To be honest AJH, if it bothers you so much; just stay off our page?
what brings you to come here and scroll down to find something to be offended at?
petty upon petty, some fans can't take 'banter' deal with it

OK OK lads didn't mean to offend, thought this was a banter site! Perhaps I've touched a few nerves so will refrain from posting from now on. I was only replying honestly to a post though.

To the OP - "Evra has played like a muppet all season". All I can say is you're wrong. Evra is certainly past his best but this has been his best season for ages and he's made more positive impacts than bad. He does still tend to cost us goals though so in no way do I think he is great. I can only assume you haven't seen much of him this year and are jumping on some kind of bandwagon.

AJH, thanks for your support :)

MalagaGooner, thanks for adding to the banter on our page, appreciated.

Anyways, I always want Arsenal to finish above Liverpool and I'd prefer to be battling with you guys at the top than City or Chlesea TBH. So good luck for the run-in and goodbye!

I enjoy banter and visit this page and the Liverpool page - I liketo see how other fans are feeling. I can take it with the best but The OP wasn't banter, it was just rude. There are some great posters on here and I enjoy reading their views - just wanted to defend me mate! At the risk of upsetting you further, I actually really like Arsenal. I can't stand Liverpool, City, or Chelsea for a variety of reasons but even at the height or rivalry, I found it hard to dislike Arsenal. The odd player maybe but never the club.

I feel sorry for Diaby, if he did not have so many injuries he could have become a world class player. However he has earned more money at the age of 26 than most people in the world will earn in their lifetime and he has played for Arsenal and his country in some amazing games - something that millions dream of. So we have to keep it in perspective. I think Arsenal should buy out his contract and get a great DM in his place and push on.

Hopefully Diaby can get back playing again but I think the reported 9 months is too long for Arsenal to wait for him and his injury history is just too bad for Arsenal to keep faith in him.

It might be that Denilson, Frimpong and Diaby will all leave? let's hope for a world class DM to come in.

Khal Drogo

Believable14 Unbelievable3

Sadly this must mean he is not strong enough for the EPL. An avg 12-13 games per season for the amount we pay him doesn't add up. In any other industry he would be out by now.
It is really sad as he could have been a really great player.
Sagalout

Agree9 Disagree1

Just passing on my condolences to Diaby, it's really unfortunate he just can't put a string of games together. He's looked excellent at times when fully fit.

This is an area Arsenal really have to address in the transfer window now, Wanyama is a must for you guys IMO. Wanyama, Wilshere & Cazorla could be a lethal midfield trio with a mix of all attributes.

HB

Agree10 Disagree0

It is a shame but this latest setback is surely the last straw. We all know how much AW rates Diaby but now is the time to be ruthless. Sack him off Wenger.

Agree4 Disagree0

I would love to keep him on a pay as you play basis

Agree2 Disagree4

I agree, Wanyama, Wilshere and Cazorla would be amazing.

Khal Drogo

Agree2 Disagree0

Part of being an effective DM is to be able to cope with the rough and tumble of games. Diaby has shown glimpses of class but his body can't match the demands of the EPL. Time to move on.

Agree1 Disagree0

9 months now would bring us in the January transfer window. i'm guessing the press conference will go something like this

i believe in this squad
if the quality is out there then we will strengthen
its not easy to buy in January
we have Diaby coming back from injury which is like a new signing

poor old Diaby, I think your time is up my friend. sad though he has the talent

1404

Agree7 Disagree0

It's a shame. but sadly not unexpected. That was a risk that has bitten AW where it hurts. Now he's forced to go after a holding MF in the transfer market. Hopefully it'll be Wanyama.

Am hearing diaby out for 9mths! Surely this is the end of his arsenal career? How much longer can wenger stand by him when he never plays more than 5 games a season? He should of gone last summer and been replaced by a more reliable cdm like capoue. Anyways 3pts tomorrow please and a spurs defeat. Up the Arse!

Believable9 Unbelievable2

I just read this same story and have to agree. When he's fit he's a very decent player but he's not reliable. In the summer we need to move for Capoue or Wanyama, just anyone who can play more than 3 games without needing a trip to the physio after!

I know that we are aiming for, and will hopefully achieve Champions League football for next season, but I have to ask:

If we are in the Europa League next year, do you think we could win it?

Think about it, we already have a team that could compete at that standard, and the lack of Champions League football could shock Wenger into action in the transfer market.

Alternatively, we could qualify for the CL next year, attract some key players and get knocked out at the group stages.

Just a thought. If we had to play in Europa next year I would prefer the second option. Although I would prefer not playing in it altogether.

So what do you guys think? Would being in the Europa league be the worst case scenario? Or could it end our pursuit for a trophy?

Believable3 Unbelievable2

I have wondered the same thing. Most people say we could not get the quality signings we need if we don't get CL. But if we said we are going to fight for the Europa League maybe players would be happy at the chance to win that?

Khal Drogo

Agree1 Disagree1

That's like saying - if we got relegated we could win the Championship - £elk that logic.

Abou Diaby is out for at least 8 months after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament.

Apparently this has been the last straw for Wenger and the club are exploring possible avenues for contract termination with a fair pay off.

Feel sorry for the lad. Very talented but he is made of glass.

Believable13 Unbelievable1

Gutted for Diaby.

No one deserves this type of injury run. The kid is a fighter and never gives up, and this is how he is rewarded.

Poor guy, I hope he makes it back from this one because at some point everyone breaks.

Here's to you Abou

Believable14 Unbelievable4

He's had so many chances how long do you stand by a player who's plays less than 5 games a year? Would be interested to see how much in wages he has cost over the years?

Agree5 Disagree6

What do you mean 'he's had so many chances?' It's not like it's his choice to get injured, he didn't deliberately tear his cruciate ligament.

He may be made of glass, but he can't help it. At least maybe we'll sign a proper CDM because of this.

hi ed27 you said a few days back that you thought Arsenal would sign 5/6 players one marquee. Who is it? {Ed027's Note - i don't know, apparently we've contacted fiorentina for Jovetic, but we contacted Lille for Hazard, and ended up with Gervinho. i just know that the board and wenger know we need a big signing, it will help all corners of the club

Diaby out for 9 months? its time to get rid of him. if he's nto meant to be playing football he should be playing softball.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Just because he is always injured, that does NOT mean he has to be discarded, or, in some quotes, slagged off. He is loyal and a damn good player when fit, however that is not very often. To reach the top you need skill, determination and GOOD LUCK with injuries, unfortunately he hasn't been lucky, just like Michael Owen. I hope he is on the mend quickly, and if he leaves, I hope he gets better luck with another club, gook to him. d luc

Agree8 Disagree5

How can you say he is loyal, if he is playing 5 games per season no other team will want him. So his loyalty has never been tested.

RVP was in the same boat loyal as long as he was Mr. Glass, as soon as he got one full season it was bye bye.

Just heard on tv Abou Diaby being ruled out for nine months with cruciate ligament damage, the man is made from glass. {Ed027's Note -i now he's out now, but it's really no loss, it's nothing new, if anything it comfirms we will finally sign a replacement for Viera

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Anyone know how long he has left on his contract? we are never going to be able to sell him and he's going to be seeing it out without playing on what, like 40K a week? draining our club.

Agree0 Disagree1

No offence Ed but I don't think you ever replaced Viera, because honestly, who could? I think the only player now who could potentially match him is Pogba. {Ed027's Note - we should of got Yaya Toure when we had the chance, there's Wanayama, Capoue, Witsel, Fellani, he are all capable, everyone is replaceable

Agree2 Disagree0

United fan here in peace

You don't need a player who can do everything that Viera did IMO because you've got the likes of Wilshere and Cazorla to do the creative stuff. What you need is a real good shield to the defence but someone who is still comfortable on the ball. I've said above I think Wanyama is your man - chuck him next to Wilshere and let Cazorla pull the strings going forward and you've got a really enviable midfield there IMO. Then you've still got Rambo, Arteta and your youngsters as backup. I think Rosicky may leave.

Hello Eds and fellow Gooners,

It appears as though we have three (3) players with expiring contracts at the end of this season:
- Andrey Arshavin (sad to see u go mate, one of my favourite players ever)
- Lukasz Fabianski (good keeper, probably looking to play first-team football elsewhere)
- Sebastien Squilacci (thank god lol)

I know that Ed27 has said that he expects a significant amount of players to leave I was wondering, who else do you think might leave?

Do you think Sao Paolo might offer to buy Denilson from us?

We have a fair amount of players out on loan. Do you think there is a good chance of any of Djourou, Chamakh, Bendtner, or Chu-Young Park getting either sold or released?

I personally hope we hold onto the likes of Frimpong and Miyaichi and give them a chance to come off the bench, maybe not next season if Wenger does not think they are ready.

Opinions welcomed,
yah man,

these are the players I hope arsenal bring in for the summer

gk) valdes or adler

cb) hummels or sakho -then sell vermalaen

dm)wanyama and mvila -sell diaby and frimpong

winger) sanchez

st) henry or villa. just a quality finisher to improve walcott and giroud and maybe notch in a few themselves :)

roughly with the tranfers out we should have this should only be about 50million
Any thoughts?

Believable2 Unbelievable5

I'd take Adler ahead of Valdes. Think we could do with that German organisation and presence hopefully similar to what Lehman gave us in his early seasons.
Hummels will be out of reach. He will go for around 25mill and I can't see us spending that on a defender. Sakho won't leave PSG. Alex is in his place because ancelotti favours him. He will prob go at the end of the season and the new manager will put Sakho back in. Sakho is like Adams was to us. Captain at 18. They won't let him go in my opinion.
Not convinced by wanyama and M'villa will be on mega money since going to Russia so won't take a pay cut to come to us.
Henry would be a desperate move as much as I love him and his history with us. And Villa, I would have taken him in January but in the summer we will have more time to source better ( hopefully )

I think the money we spend won't go on the top tier of player. I think if (when) QPR go down Samba could happen. Also this Nigerian lad Godfrey Oboabonna would be a possibility. One of vermaelen or mertesacker will go.
Midfield again will be slightly more unfamiliar names, like Geoffrey Kondogbia of Seville, (monster of a midfielder). I'd like Kevin Strootman but again would cost a lot.
Strikers. If its true and Loic Remy will be available for 4mill then that is a no brainer. Not to be a number 1 striker but to rotate him Giroud, Walcott and maybe 1 more new striker. I know Jovetic has been mentioned a lot but as soon as Man City become involved then it becomes a lot more difficult.
I think the biggest change to the squad will be the departures. Finally shifting the infamous "dead wood"

Just a thought. Does anyone know what happened to Marvin Martin? (MMM for any old posters still around)

I know he joined Lille, but is he still any good or did he fade over time?

And for that matter, what ever happened to the old Ed:022?

Believable5 Unbelievable0

He's played event but tends to play holding instead of his creative role.
I doubt Lille would sell after a year

Jack and Theo out of the Reading game officially confirmed on Arsenal site.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

We will be fine without them, Rosicky or Diaby in for Jack and either the Ox or Gervinho in for Theo.

Gerv & Ox have looked fresh in their last couple of games, so should step up to the plate and take their chances, Rosicky and Diaby are both very good players if they are not injured.

COYG

Nice comfortable 3-0 for me.
