Ed is it true that wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the season if we lose to city on sunday? I read that in quite a number of newspapers today.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any such proposals - it remains - go, stay, a controlled go.}

Looking at the fixtures I don't see the season ending well. I think he thought top4 was nailed on abit ago. This is the year we miss out though.

I think Arsene has already accepted missing out on top 4 is highly likely and covered himself by saying his decision won't be swayed by if we make next season Champions league.
I think the city result might delay Arsene's announcement if we lose badly but i doubt it will influence his decision as he's already made up his mind so he says.

Do you really believe he has given up on the top 4? Come on G62 that's nonsense . He will still believe that we can make it and so should the fans.

{Ed033's Note - i don't think G62 said or meant "given up".

Sorry you're correct he never said that but accepting it is giving up in the context of the statement and he definitely said that. I don't believe that for one second Wenger accepts it.

Hi Sanogo i have never heard Arsene address the real possibility of missing out on top 4 as he has this season, in previous seasons he has stressed how important to finish top 4 is and why he regards it as being success but not now.

In his interviews and press conferences he uses phrases " like we will try to make top 4 and "it's still possible for us to make top 4", which is very different to dressing it up as a trophy as he has in years gone by, his words most definitely much more cautious than in the past.

Ed033 is right i never said he'd given up (thanks Ed), i said he'd accepted missing out as being highly likely, which of course it is considering we are in what looks to me to be a 3 way battle between us Utd and Liverpool and at this moment in time, i think most people would agree we look in the worst shape of the 3 contenders mentioned.

{Ed033's Note - It's highly likely that Sanogo was on some mind altering substance at the time of reading your post. 😉

If we don't make top 4 he won't be here i'm sure of it. He won't be able to use his record in press conferences after defeats and the heat on him would be too much.

I think if city beat us it could be the end, I really do. I don't see a good time to announce a deal and I don't think its signed. It's all media feeders. My gut feeling is he will go, but may be wrong.

Him staying will end the legacy once and for all, but I think he'd enjoy losing alexis, ozil, no top 4 and rebuild. that's his type of challenge. But he created the mess so I think he'll go.

His fate surely can't hinge on one more game. Even if we beat city and go on to make top 4, it doesn't necessarily mean Wenger is the right manager for this club next season. I would love to see him magically become less stubborn and hand over some responsibilities to someone else. If he really wants to future proof the club then he can't continue the same way for 2 more years.

Arsene used to often publiclily state " that finishing in the top 4 was a prerequisite and the absolute minimum requirement for Arsenal football club to achieve '
He is no longer using those sort of words and phrases during interviews and press conferences which to me suggests he is no longer quite so confident he and his team can meet those minimum requirements that he set for the club.
This is Arsene's team and if they have gone backwards forcing him to reavuluate thier capabilities and lower the minimum acceptable standard for the club i think that says it all.
Spurs in particular have kicked on and progressed
Liverpool are in the process of the doing the same.
Utd are most definitely on the way back to being the force they were a few seasons back
Chelsea and City are constantly reinventing themselves in order to be all they can be

If we accept a lowering of our own standards to keep Arsene in a job he undoubtedly loves while all our main competition are increasing their own standards where will that leave the club in one years time? Let alone another 2 years.

Not for a while actually ed. that's probably the problem.

Wenger has actually come out and said if we don't get top 4 it isn't a problem for arsenal financially any more like it used to be and we could still attract top players. So yes I do think gunner is right and wenger is setting up peoples mind set ready for the inevitable. He is setting the phycological bars for us again.

Hes backed into a corner steve and doesn't know where to go next. Sad to see I think, he doesn't need this but he seems to bring it on himself. I want him to go challenge himself no challenge here for him anymore.

Derby gooner he is really stubborn. doesn't change his tactics and doesn't want to leave. I am afraid he will get hounded out.

Derby, he can't win by staying at the club. If he truly believes he still has it, then it is in everyones interest that he doesn't take his easy option and he goes for a new challenge at somewhere he will be fresh at. If he stops he has taken the decision what is best for arsene wenger and not arsenal football club and its fans.
